One of my favorite songs by Roger from 70-ies, and this is the last album where Roger writes only one song, starting with the next album there will be at least two songs from Roger!

I think that’s the genius of Queen-each member brought very distinct songs to the table. I find that refreshing. A whole album of Freddie’s dramatic “over the top” songs would be tiresome, as would an album full of guitar-based rockers by Brian. Drowse is one of my favorite Queen songs (I love the lyrics and it’s lilting slide guitar) yet if you played this to someone uninitiated they’d never guess it was Queen. That’s why I love them. They did everything.

I really love this song from Roger. He is starting to come into his own in writing. It is just a song about how life is easier when your a child and not realizing at the time, I believe. Thanks for all your reactions to Queen.

When you know Taylor`s solo work , like the album - Fun In Space - , this is very much recognizable as a Taylor song.

Brian May: Acoustic and electric guitars
    Freddie Mercury: 👀
Roger Taylor: Electric guitar, lead and backing vocals, drums, timbales, percussion

Love this song, so unique, it has a beautiful atmosphere, very nostalgic, and Roger's voice is so nice singing in octaves, the drums so soft but very present... Love it

John Deacon and Roger Taylor became very important later on. Especially when Mercurys drought started in the 80s. Taylor and Deacon wrote biiiig hits in the 80s. Just to illustrate:
Roger Taylor: A Kind of Magic, Radio GaGa, There Are the Days of our Lives, Breakthru, Innuendo(his idea, Freddie contributed), Heaven for Everyone
John Deacon: You're my best friend, Another One Bites the Dust, I want to Break Free, Friends Will be Friends(with Mercury)

Ooh... one of my favourite Queen songs of all time... top 5 for me. All because it doesn't sound like typical Queen and shows a totally different side of them in the same way as She Makes Me is totally different for Queen. Yes very much reminds me of being in my bedroom in 1977/78 and totally vibing on this...

Sound Garden: Black Hole Sun? Never thought of that before, but maybe? I always thought it's kinda Bowie meets Pink Floyd.

Justin, to answer your question. Roger is using a Timpani to augment the bass drum.

The slide guitar sound perfectly captures that daydreaming sunday afternoon boredom from back in the 70s when absolutely everything was closed and nothing to do on sundays

This is one of my favorite Roger songs. I like the way the slide guitar evokes the sleepy feeling that Roger is describing. Thinking back to my many boring Sunday aftenoons in a small town, it feels really true. I think this one would grow on you Justin if you played it a few more times. Still, I love your reactions to an Queen songs, and your comment videos too.

The title to this song fits it perfectly, as it encapsulates the feeling of being bored on a long, hot summer afternoon during a school holiday, with nothing much to do but hang around a limited number of different but often frequented haunts, no money to spend as such, kicking about the place or failing that, just lazing at home on your bed, half-asleep, with nothing else to do but listen to music, as the days pass by. Life is easy, with nothing much to concern you, but nothing much to do, either.

Yes Sunday in the 1970s... no video games, no mobile phones, no video recorder just records and the radio and whatever was on TV at that moment... the total opposite of today....

Drowse is sort of wistful feeling song … almost a feeling of Deja vu comes to mind and I like it. Crazy how music can evoke a mood … I actually feel drowsy when I hear this and I need a serious banger to move on after 😂✌🏼😂

    Sound reaction :)
Brings me back to my bedroom mid 70's. While I agree they were not near the standard of Mercury/May, Decon/Taylor did provide contrast, even if they were only album fillers. But also it ultimately keep members happy, and sewed the seeds of future hits with high writing standards the whole band would make money off.

Love This Song Too. It's the kind of trippy TAYLOR songs he brings to the table. Loved the previous TAYLOR song.

I value listening with the lyric video - especialy if the vocals seem to be the same level of the instruments. I get the feeling Roger seems to to reveal a big picture message in a small scale way with his song writing. Like this quite a bit...drouse is a very appropriate title of sorts.

It is a bit similar to Pretty noose, maybe. Anyways, one of the Roger's better earlier efforts, and I think it fits perfectly on the album.

I do like this one because it still sounds like Roger but not about a vehicle. Next up Teo Torriatte is just beautifully crafted and sung. It's how Freddie uses his voice.

I agree with you about Brian and Freddie. Drowse is not a banger but I like it. At this time, just like John, he is still learning.Roger was known in the band as the one who was curious about what was happening musically. Sound Garden appears almost ten years later, does that mean that Roger was ahead of his time ? lol

This song reminds me of David Bowie. This is somewhat of a problem with Roger Taylor. Whether it was with singing or song writing, it can sometimes across as ideas from other artists. I think it took some time to find his own space. Roger Taylor was a great singer for example, but he can often sound like other singers, such as Robert Plant, David Bowie or Rod Steward. Freddie had an immediately recognisable voice.

It's a Roger Taylor song, but it's not one to skip. It's actually pretty decent and not the worst track on the album, and there is a track on the album I detest.

I have always felt that the vocals are too tucked back behind the instruments for the majority of this song. I love Roger's voice and I just don't feel like it is loud enough over the rest of the mix. This song is a lot more like a Roger solo song than it is a Queen song in my opinion and it really does not gel well within the parameters of the band. I like the song but would like it more as a Roger solo venture than I do as Queen.

It's an ok song, Roger in the beginning, he admits it wasn't a great writer, but I think it was ok. John wrote some good ones.

This is their weakest album so far. Hard to follow up your most successful album. But there’s a number of duds on here. Other bands would kill for those songs, so everything in its perspective. Next album they crank it up. Then the cocaine starts to take over after that.
