I love when I come to UA-cam and I see a new video from you. Over the years of watching your videos, you have inspired me to tackle my own masonry projects around the house. I hope you are enjoying your retirement!
The Man, The Legend! I've watched Mike's videos for years, some over and over..I learned more from Mike than I have learned in real time from anyone else
"No big deal". LOL Mike, I repaired a crack in my foundation that went from the bottom of the foundation to the corner of the small cellar window on both sides. Roughly about 4 feet in length. It's been that way since I bought the house 38 years ago. Absolutely no shifting in all the time I've owned the house. After watching your videos about 20 times. Then watching Tom Silva several times from "This Old House"., and a few others. I did the repairs using a combination of two ideas. I bought a 5 gallon pail of Quikrete polymer modified structural concrete repair at HD. It was a hairline crack. I chiseled it out to a width of 3/8 ths of an inch. I gave both sides a good soaking with a spray bottle. I then went on to repair both sides, outside and in. Then after about 30 minutes I sponged it neatly. Before I did this, I placed some of those plugs similar to what Sika and other companies use to squirt in the epoxy. Each one a foot apart starting at the bottom. I waited a month for the concrete to cure. I drilled a small 1/4" hole in the bottom of the wooden window frame. I then bought 4 tubes of the Sika crack fix epoxy resin and proceeded to empty into the middle of the foundation. I only needed three bottles of Sika. Each time I saw the Sika starting to leak I would plug the hole working upwards. I let it cure for a couple of days then touched up the small holes. Looks great...you would of been proud. I even used a trick from either you or Tom Silva. After smoothing with a damp sponge I rubbed in sand. I went overboard. But I wanted too. ........NO BIG DEAL !
You are an absolute master of your craft. Excellent work. I continue to learn from you and I enjoy watching your videos. Thank you again Mr. Haduck! God bless you!
Mike, I just gotta tell you how valuable these videos are, and commend your generosity for sharing your time and skill with us. I’ve been a carpenter and GC for years, but never dabbled much with masonry until the last few years. Now I’m taking over our family farm and fixing up old buildings - some of which have crumbly foundations. Knowing how to do these repairs so those buildings will look good and continue to last (and do their job) for many more years is a HUGE help. Plus I’m having tons of fun with bits of field stones and old bricks! When the materials are free, you can be a little more brave with ‘em! I’m kind of a perfectionist, so when I find myself over-thinking a repair I just tell myself, “No big deal! Just patch it up,” and I get myself moving again. 😂 Thanks again! - Mike from MN
I was explaining the masonry techniques of this video to my girlfriend and she was really intrigued by the process of "making it wet, and shoving it in"!
Always a pleasure to view your videos, Mr. Haduck. Valuable lessons from a master craftsman. I agree with the other commentators . . . I find myself saying to myself one of your expressions, "No big deal," when I'm working on projects. It keeps me going to the finish. Thank you
It's always good to watch your videos. My husband and I have learned a tremendous amount from watching your videos. It looks great after you got rid of the ' Sins '. We have a relative in the Midwest that uses the phrase uglier than sin quite frequently. Sometimes he's talking about non stationary objects 🥺😳😁 God bless 🙏. Outstanding video of yours.

Old world craftsmanship at its best! Awesome job Mike! A Dusty dark basement with a rock wall, Florida's got nothing on Wilkes-Barre. They probably don't even have coal stoves in their basements.
Love your videos mike! As a homeowner and rental property owner, your videos and knowledge have given me the confidence to tackle any mason project..."no big deal" right?! Happy retirement, well deserved!
Hey Mike. I was the kid who lived across the street from you in the trailer. I just went on Google Earth and looked at the old neighborhood and don't blame you for going to Florida.
@kwaktak ok, that has to be 40 years ago, Avoca changed, I moved to Florida, I think your mother went to Maryland. I hope you are doing fine, small world

Hello! Just found your videos- love them! I just bought my first house- 120 years old with a stone and block and apparently “Michigan walls” foundation. There was an addition at one point. As a naive homebuyer, I didn’t pay attention to that there was a lot of water getting into basement. I fixed two sources by extending downspouts and I think the other source is probably the third downspout but it’s in a tricky area so I need to fix that. There’s lots of crumbling walls and cracks in the concrete blocks. I know the foundation has sunk in the back about 3 inches but no sagging floors, just a bit unlevel in some areas. No major cracks in upstairs walls. Question: should I try to fix the cracks per your methods or wait till I can get a professional to see if bigger foundation issues? Of course one company wanted to put in a large sump pump system and raise the foundation for $40k! Well that’s what drove me to fix the downspouts and that made a huge difference so I don’t trust some professionals. Would it hurt to just fix the masonry since I can’t afford foundation repair anyway? My dad thinks “it’s a 120 year old house, it’s been standing this long, don’t worry about the slight sinking that’s happened in one area.” Yikes, long winded comment- sorry!
Off topic - a video of how to repair a crumbling brick base chimney stack in a basement would be super helpful for solutions. Temporary fix to a best fix. Upstate New York area - I've fixed outside ground water seepage issue and water isn't coming from chimney top on the roof.
Hi innovation, I am not there to see it but usually I do one side at a time, or fast drying cement and plaster, I have a video I never finished on one, good reminder, but usually I clean it and repoint the joints and plaster it, thanks Mike
I wish a crack was not just a crack and I could repair the bad ones in my driveway in the Midwest. I thought you would have come up with some super duper way of doing that.
Thanks, Mike great videos. I'm re-cementing the basement walls (the house is 114 years old) using 3 bars of sand and type 2 cement. Could I use the screen because of the poor condition of the walls? I realize the screen rots, However, this work is inside of the house. also, I am going to finish the second coat as stucco,
Hi alwatts,,, I show what I use in each video on foundation repair inside and out, I rarely if ever use screen, watch from the beginning of the playlist and that should help answer some questions, thanks Mike
Hi GoGospel, either or, whatever fits best and then I do what I do on my driveway resurfacing video, but every situation is a bit different, thanks, Mike
Hey Mike, do you have video repairing step cracks in a cinder block wall? I couldn’t find one. I need to fill them before we repaint. Thanks for all the great info!
My son had a small foundation patch & I must say he did well for someone who had never seen it done. He came in & says ma I got one spot that keeps falling back out. Took a couple rocks stuck empty in there & then it held up. How'd u learn to do that he asked. I said Mike haddock. Ain't no big deal.
I have a neighbor who did something like this but outdoors. It been a few years but it's still kind of 'dusty' to the touch. Doesn't crumble when you wack it with your hand but a bit dusty like a layer is flaking off....
