Hi Allen, they say it's mortar mix but it's hard as concrete, the military uses it for repairing runways and the state roads, I never had a callback or failure, thanks Mike f
I am working on covering front precast steps (because they sank after dirt around house settled) with bluestone 2 foot by 3-foot squares. if i have to put in an inch to 2 inches of cement would regular gravel mix be better or you 3 parts sand 1-part Portland. would you fill the seams with Portland sand mix or some kind of grout. they are about 3/4 inch wide.

Hi Mike! My dad and I have been having fun learning from your videos. I have some roughly 2 x 2 and 1 x 1 foot areas I wanna patch on my foundation. I’m not dealing with any concrete, just the plaster over the top of it. Should I be using a rapid set mortar mix or your standard go to mixture? I’ve watched several of your videos and haven’t picked up on anything definitive. You have one video patching areas of a foundation on the INSIDE of a basement and you used rapid set mortar. The areas I’m working with are OUTSIDE and south facing (sun facing). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, love the videos.
Hi Kenner, I use the rapid set mostly for anything I want done fast, like filling in so I can go over it quick, but sometimes if not in a hurry I just do the regular mix, thanks Mike
Hi Mike, nice video. We have a lot of concrete getting to this state. Question for you: We have a limestone front door threshold (in MI) where the top surface has been worn down by water/ice/salt but the stone is 99% intact - just a very rough/irregular surface. Is there something you would recommend to use to float on the top to smooth it out? Sure, best would be to replace it but if I wanted to make it look and feel better for a couple more years, what would be the best idea? Thanks!
Hello Mike, I mixed my own concoction using straight Portland, Hydrated Lime, White Milk (bonding agent), water, ratio = 5/1/.25/.5, to squeegee over a 30 y/o driveway and I soft broomed it. It came out nice, I would like a whiter color finish because I have some lime streaks. I want a more uniform white look, to try a coat using Portland, Lime, White Playsand, White Milk, Water ratio 1/1/1/*/*, and broom this slurry over the concrete. What do you think about it?
Do you ever use concrete stain? Would you use stain to color the mortar between sandstone blocks? I don’t want to add color to the mortar first because I’m not sure how to mix up exactly the right color. So I’m thinking of painting the mortar with concrete stain after it dries. Have you ever done that? Will it work well?
Hi Mike, Enjoy your channel. Sometimes you mix portland and s mortar for painting and sometimes you you have bonding water and portland. Is there a reason for one ves the other. Horizontal vs Vertical? Also do you have ay tips on cleaning tools that have dried concrete on them. Thank you again No big deal!
Hi, K old timers used any thing they had, lime, mortar and Portland sometimes I mix to match, everything depends , sometimes I use a sander to clean my tools, thanks Mike
Hi, I think it was a bad part of the concrete that was not thoroughly mixed when if first came out of the truck, I see it now and then, the rest of the concrete was fine, thanks Mike
Mike did some 2'x2' slate and laid them down in a 3 to 1 portland bed. For joints I was told by a brick buddy to use 2 to 1 portland and no mortar for floor joints. Was told it's harder. 5 years later still good. Still not sure why the mortar was a no no on floor joints. Just curious. If it wasn't pointed out I would have used a mortar.
Mike, if you don’t mind me asking. If I have a repair on the driveway with part of it shallow and part of it deep (2 inches), what is best to use? Concrete or mortar mix? In Oklahoma with both hot and cold temps. Thanks.
Mike I have a section of my garage floor that crack and sunk about 2 inches can I level it with cement all? If so how do I get it to stick to the existing sunken floor?
Hi mike I have a 7” hole in my brick chimney from a old wood stove vent and I was told I should fill it with cement Do you agree with this and do you have any recommendations? I’m scared to do anything with it but I have access to the hole right now because I had my roof done a few years back and they didn’t do the flashing correctly on my chimney and water leaked down the chimney into my kitchen and I had to tear out my wall and now I’m about to drywall

@@MikeHaduck can i just use portland cement at a 3 to 1 ratio and a 1/3 lyme for plaster straight on block instead of masonry cement w/ a bit of portland?
Would I be correct in thinking that when you were younger you did patches like this without wearing gloves? If so, when did you start wearing them and was there a reason other than just the general knowledge that it’s not good to have cement on your bare skin? I'm always hesitant to use anything that’s fast setting, whether it’s mortar, taping compound or adhesive. I never moved all that fast, even when I was younger, and so I’m afraid I’ll have to throw half of each batch away.

Plus I have work on Patrick Air Force runways and I have had to fix cracks on the runways you do not use mortar mix or Portland cement mortar anyting that you use has to be approved by the office of the government
Hi Allen, rapid set was developed by the gov to repair runways for the military, and the state in pa uses it to patch bridges, the difference between the mortar mix and rapid set is sand is added, thanks Mike
Is there a good list of your videos? You have a set of retaining walls videos in a row with maybe 5 videos, then it changes o what concrete should I use. It says part 1, but no part 2, then skips to sidewalks 2 videos, then foundation walls #1 to #6, and so on. I feel like I'm skipping around and getting confused. Now I am working on a foundation repair. At some point I will need a sidewalk in the back, and then steps repair, etc. I know UA-cam is sorting them, but I fear I'm missing good information. It's easier if I stick to one thing at a time and view them in the chronological order you made them so they build on each other. I'm about 2 hours south of you. Should I stick to your formulas? I think we get less snow and is slightly warmer. If your formulas are good enough for here, I want to use them.
Hi, I have playlist on each subject, and as far as I know they are in order, I know youtube can mix them up, but everthing is in order on my side, I hope it helps, Mike

Thanks, Mike
Plus I have work on Patrick Air Force runways and I have had to fix cracks on the runways you do not use mortar mix or Portland cement mortar anyting that you use has to be approved by the office of the government
Hi Allen, rapid set was developed by the gov to repair runways for the military, and the state in pa uses it to patch bridges, the difference between the mortar mix and rapid set is sand is added, thanks Mike
Did you get out on the water much this summer Mike?
Hi Hopper, I moved to Florida, still showing videos from the past, thanks Mike
You don’t wanna open a can of worms!!!
Tanks zack, Mike
