Im 15 mins in and absolutely loving your review, I adored ACOTAR, it gave me the reading bug back which has helped my mental health, I love that you're critically reviewing this because it's making me see the book in a different sense I will always have a soft spot for this book but I also love your opinion and can see it from your point of view
I did enjoy the first book but that’s because it was the first fantasy I read as an adult; and I think that’s the case for a lot of people which is why issues get glossed over. For me, it’s easier to think of it as a prequel to the rest of Feyres story, it’s to get her to the place of being fae in my opinion. I’m interested to see what you make of the second as the world building and character development and plot really take hold. Enjoyed the video 😊
I love your honesty. I do agree with you on some parts but to be fair, I did read somewhere that Sarah J Maas was only 16 when she wrote the first book. I did find the first book quite slow and agree with you that it left with more questions with answers, however, I have started the second book which is much, much better! Xx
Love your honesty and i had acotar on my shelf for years and i only became interested in reading it because of the hype of tiktok and it took me a few trys to get into it. The other books are better but i agree the first book in a series should pull you in and make you want to continue with series i also had to look up fanart on pinterest of the characters and places i just couldnt picture them in my head i watch your tiktoks and love your content ❤ acotar is not for everyone and reading should be personally enjoyable and we are allowed to like and dislike what we read keep up the great work 😊
Loved this! I really like the series overall, but was disappointed with this book too, as others have said book 2 brings some world building, answers, and plot. Personally I think the series is hyped around its romance more than anything, which book 1 has none of 😂 I look forward to seeing more reviews on here from you & if you bother with book 2 I’d love to see that in the same format as this one, really enjoyed it!
I feel like when people hype ACOTAR, they are hyping the series as a whole rather than that specific book. I completely agree with you in that the first book ends up leaving you with more questions than answers alot of the time and if I'd also just bought the first book I might have left it there, but i did end up finishing the series and i ultimately did enjoy it. The writing and the world building does get better and alot of what youve said is missing does come later, so I'd definitely love to hear your thoughts if you do end up continuing with it! As a fan of the series i really did enjoy your review, its not often people go so in depth with a book review and i found it really refreshing!
I've only read book 1. And I didn't get it I just thought it was because it was a new genre for me but I thought everything u did I've got book 2 but don't know if I want to read it ❤
@erikadickens1847 I'd suggest giving book 2 a go. I went into it thinking if it didn't grab me during book 2 I would DNF the series but it pulled me in and I really enjoyed the series!😊
I really REALY wanted to love this series. I loved fourth wing, that was recommended on TikTok, so when this series was all over my fyp I was excited. I felt for so long that maybe, because I’m a new reader, I was just at a low level of reading, or that it was something that I didn’t understand. It’s great to hear someone else who felt this way about this book. Also you do get LGBT representation at a really terrible attempt at a token bisexual arch in a main character that didn’t show anything that would even hint at until until the ‘big reveal’ right at the end of the 3rd book.
Ahh the token gay rep because the author knows they have to step up! Unsure which grinds my gears more that or no rep! Also please don’t ever think of yourself as a low level reader 🤍
💯 agreed with everything you said, i struggled to get into this book but i persevered with the second and it was much better but have yet to pick up number 3. Love your reviews they are always so honest 😊
I loved the series, but i read it when it first came out, and I was about 17/18 so was reading mainly ya. It's interesting to listen to your reviews as it got me thinking about all the problems with plotholes/writing style and really appreciate you speaking the truth about what you felt.
I wonder if you would prefer throne of glass, ik its ya, but has got more world building, only problem is from book 3 you get multiple character povs which can be harder to read
Everything you mentioned is absolutely valid and I felt the same way when reading it! It was very meh 😒 I did enjoy books 2&3 the most! Also, I loved the way you reviewed this!
I am inclined to agree with you on the writing style in this book, the bowels constantly irks me 😂 however, I think the development of feyre is good, she's a survivor, very stubborn, and angry about growing up so fast, she hasn't been allowed to be a child, her older sisters are selfish and spoiled, then she ends up in spring court and to learn suddenly that she can relax and realise actually I am allowed to be 19 years old and do things I love and enjoy and I am entitled to a home comfort, to then be thrust into survival again against magics she doesn't fully understand. I loved that Rhysand is portrayed as one thing but he's very much acting to cover to protect his people and clearly is in love with feyre and protecting her by portraying outwardly that he's controlling her just to get at tamlin, we see this when they're caught by amarantha. I do agree that I'd like to know more about the magic etc however I've just started the second book and already discovering much more about it, and it is a lot more fast paced than the first! Love your critique though LOTS of valid points! Xx
I really struggled to get through the first two books & was confused about the hype. The third book is my favourite for sure but I still haven’t picked up the last two books as I really don’t have any motivation to haha. xx
Im only 20 minutes in so far and this review is so refreshing and kinda funny to me because when i read this i just accepted everything as it was but now im like oh yeah 😂 i know this video is gonna be an epic deep dive ill continue now 😂❤
This book was a slog for me too but I was told it is the "tax you pay to enjoy the rest of the series.". I liked the second book more but book 3 was where I couldn't put it down as there is non stop action.
Book 2 turns it all around, the first I found I just got through it cause of the hype but I was glad cause I loved the second and needed the info of the first🤣. I also think it should’ve been stopped at the third cause I’m not a big fan of the last two, it was a lot of pages for not much🤣
I read the first 3 fairly quickly. They didn't really live up to the hype for me, only a few chapters that were any good. It's put me in a book slump 😑🤦🏻♂️🤣
Very interesting view on the book loved hearing it not everyone will like the same ones personally I loved the series but totally understand where you are coming from . Unfortunately this is the weakest book of the series . The further you get into the books there is more of a setting and description of where they are. Really enjoyed listening to this though and can’t wait to hear what you think of the others if you carry on , plus the spice racks up a lot more in the next few 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ . You are one of my favourites on the other app to watch and loved this ❤️
I can't wait to see your response to the others. All your questions were valid, and unfortunately, they answered further in the series ( like you said you shouldn't have to wait for this info)
So agreed with you on all this I read these literally years ago after first seeing on bookstagram before they were massive and there just a bit.. meh 😂 xx
I love your honesty! I’ve tried the first book twice but have never managed the whole thing- good on you pushing through and giving a really deep and honest review! I know so many people love the series which is what makes me keep trying.
I agree book one wasnt amazing i enjoyed it but didnt love it under the mountain and the action tbh. It was funny when you were confused why they wanted to house her ect Because i felt the same haha untill i realised we wernt supposed to understand 😂 Book two was so much better i felt, however if you dont like this book at all by the end of it i don't think you will enjoy the rest. I do actually love these books personally, but i get why people dont 😂 they are my guilty pleasure haha. And ive read a LOT of fantasy.. so i probably shouldnt like them lol
I know you probably won't read book twowhich is completely fair, but I would love to see if your opinions change through the development of that book, and get the answers to your questions. And also to see if you think it's better than the first or if we are all deranged haha
I’m pleased it’s not just me. I just finished the book yesterday. I struggled through the first half, I felt when Rhysand turn up we were getting somewhere but the whole book felt flat. Around 3/4 of the book I was looking at her whole collection thinking did I need to read one or more of her other books/series to understand the world and what was going on as I had so many questions about them. Seems like you are having the same problem. I will try book 2 but if that’s the same struggle I will leave it.
Let me start by saying my pov will be odd... I haven't read it and I am someone who chooses fantasy 80-90% of the time. Fantasy isn't for everyone, but please don't throw out the genre for one book😊 I think you should go ahead and "secretly" try book 2 and if you still not into it... Just never mention the acronym again 😅 As you said, you have a beautiful book shelf, long Tbr, many book faries and things you want to read at the end of the day ❤ I'm here for your content, honesty, silliness, ups and downs. Just fan-girling🫶
My daughter brought me the set for my birthday. So I feel I have to read it. But i struggled with bk 1. I have started bk 2 and I normally read a bk in 3 to 4 days. It’s been 2 weeks n I’m only on chapter 18 n haven’t picked it up since yesterday morning. 🥹

Enjoyed the video 😊
@@abbieweston7604 thanks for such an ace comment!! It concerns me this is aimed at early 20’s! Let’s see what the rest is like!

Loved this deep dive ! I’m going to read it out of pure curiosity ….. well I’m in the queue for it in the libby app x
I'm on book 2 but I was also very hesitant to start reading acotar and now love it

Writing level on par with Colleen Hoover. And we have very similar thoughts on her 😅
Don’t even get me started on Hoover 😂
