First of all, love your channel and respectable content. Wonderful news that Sig is getting government contracts and going to start making their optics on the USA. My Romeo 1 Pro was assembled in the Philippines. I’m going to be a Sig Fan boy and plan to get the Romeo 2, as long as it survives your torture test.
My ass puckered on the drop test even though I have never liked or been impressed by SIG optics. This may well change my mind. Good job SIG. Finally something that deserves serious consideration. I would like to see 1-8 as an option.
I looked through one of the Tango 6 scopes a week or so ago. And damn it was crispy. The store had a Razor 1-6 as well so I was able to do a direct comparison. The clarity on the two was equal as far as I could tell. The only real difference is 1st focal plane vs 2nd and the Razor body just melts away. The sig wasn’t bad though.
I lucked out and bought the 2 Gen Tango 6T, German reticle and grayish/blue color, in May of 2019...around the same time the Army named the Tango 6T as their contract winner. Lucky because it was +/- $750.00 and at the time I felt (and still do) that it was comparable to the Vortex 1-6 Razor E. Build quality, glass, turrets, throw lever, same as Army version. Just different color and reticle. Glad you drop tested it so I don't have to.
Mil-spec is weird. You can sneeze in its general direction and it breaks, or you can yeet it off the side of a mountain and not even scratch the paint. Not a whole lot of in between.
The Mil-Std technical data and requirements are very misunderstood. The arctic conditions and sand/dust/humidity/heat tests are extremely difficult to meet. Most manufacturers are unaware of them and don’t care, as long as they continue to sell look-alike imitations to the public and LE with the best margins to be able to stay in business. All of it is easier said than done, including the low end business model.
I'm glad you said it because you always hear people throw out the term Mil-Spec or the phrase the military uses it like that's what makes a product the holy grail or best of the best. In my experience a lot of the time it just means you're about to spend a $h!t load of money for a specialized piece of gear that in the civilian market you can find better or more useful gear for a lot less money. That said I have one of the Tango6 3-18×44 (which I spent a $h!t load of money for) and a couple of the Tango4 4-16×44 optics that I use on my precision rifles and I also run the the Romeo 5 XBR dots on 5 different rifles so far I've had pretty good luck with Sig optics.
