I literally LOled at that one. And he right too.
It also the shit where I hear from "instructors" that "rds is slower at closer range than irons." and pretty much same shit covered here too.
I need to buy the man a drink, and take a class because I do want to get some carbine shit in soon.

Me: “I’m just so much slower with a LPVO at 1x at close distances, therefore I prefer the dot for up close.”
Also me: *has almost 10k rounds through one build with one red dot, has only tried the LPVO for 100-200 rounds max*

the stop mugging yourself off and use an LPVO with the same amount of rounds with the red dot then compare them! i find LPVO better then a red dot because i dont just do only CQB , but also medium and long range . the LPVO such as night force does is not slower then a red dot

Always appreciate your detail and perspective. For what it’s worth 😆(probably not much): When I put an AR together last year. My first since 1976; my end product, excluding brand name, was the exact same configuration. This was based on: Vietnam era Marine infantry experience and Hunting experience. But mostly “OG” physical issues. ie; bad eyes, bad joints, can’t move for shit anymore. So ultimately working with a home defense/coyote gun in a 1-10 ffp, LVPO and a 45 degree offset RDS gave me the same results. Even shooting off hand. For comparison btw I use a 36yd zero on the LVPO and a 25yd zero on RDS. That gives me a 4x6/2x4 hit using a 12 o’clock hold on anything indoors with either optic.
Used your videos switching from irons to a RDS pretty much exclusively. Thanks for the helping the “OG’s”!!!!

I've run both on my 11.5 and off a timer I'm almost identical. It helps that I've done a lot of dry fire with the lpvo but it feels better to use it under white light than red dot for me. Decision really came down to with where I live, which is very rural, so if something happened the gun will fill the jobs I need it to close or out to a little range. For reference I run the steiner P4Xi and the dot is perfect in the daylight

  • @texasranger24

I think it's fair to say that red dots/ holographics are faster and easier for beginners and people who don't do a lot of practice and dryfire. You should, and that will certainly help level the playing field with LPVOs, but especially from awkward positions you can get awkward aim with a scope. You should try both and know your intended use, but generally a red dot is superior if it's actually only for CQB. Also, reticle illumination / battery life is something to consider. I like Holosun and Olight (Chinesium, i know) because of the ease to keep them running.

Weight and reliability, scopes have had to get sent in for repair. T2 will just work until fixed irons co-witness are what’s left. Keep a Leica Monovid Monocular 8x 20mm in a pocket for id’ing. For engagement past 400meters the 6.5 gets broken out of the snipers pack with a 4-27x56.

Weight and reliability. The scopes have had to have been sent in for repair. The T2 will just work and if it doesn’t you have co-witness irons. I have been going back and forth on a Armageddon .556 setup. Red dot and fixed co witness irons win so far. Keep a Leica Monovid Monocular 8x 20mm in a pocket for id’ing targets. Not gonna engage target +3-400 meters. Need a sniper rig for that work anyway so that’s when you bust out the rig out of your snipers bag.

I just don't think I'm good enough to demonstrate the difference for myself, magnified feels a little more clumsy when going fast but it seems to work out pretty similarly for me.

I had the same question... so I shot a carbine match with my Razor 1-6 and had zero issue with eyebox (unless it was on 6X instead of 1X), even shooting opposite shoulder around a fault line.

Love this guy and all he does and puts out for the community! Me I prefer a re dot with a 3x on the ftc unity mounts. Hard to beat. Lpvo’s have their place for sure but for me 3x seems to be enough.

Great video! To be honest I'm more of a RDS guy personally. I don't much shooting out to long distance although I have in the past. I suppose one thing is that there are a lot more budget RDS that I'd trust on a fighting gun vs the cheap LPVOs that are suitable for defense. Although to be honest I could have bought a decent scope for the cost of my Comp M5...

Very thorough (as usual) as this subject needs to be openly discussed. It's amazing what you can do when put in the time before you throw it away....opinions only matter when you have made your own after you exhausted the effort. Ya I sound pretty deep..lol
