Where on earth have you been hiding this material Austin, absolutely magnificent, and with authentic sound...very posh....I hope there's a lot more of this to come....Bob
Thanks Noel, yes despite using the line out socket from the projector to the camera I've been unable to get rid of the projector sounds, maybe it adds to the nostalgia
We probably shared a window or two as my sole interest, when not stewarding, was sound recording. Coincidentally, the last few days I have been sorting through literally hundreds of C90's wondering what on earth to do with them. Thanks again for renewing the memories.
Many thanks Alan. I did sound recordings too and after a runpast would get back on quickly to grab a window. It's true that we make many friends when involved with railways and these films remind me of many wonderful days out
Excellent Austin - most enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the shot at 4:19 at Little Salkeld - very rare, and with some of the old signalling infrastructure and loading gauge still in place - brilliant.
Thanks David, I really wish I had used a tripod but that was reserved for the still camera at the time. Quite a few more instalments to come with a few more rarities
Fantastic! You do such a great service to people like me and especially so because I live in America. I miss the British steam scene a lot. The sound is excellent, I am an analogue fan (vinyl and stuff) because of the sound and because I live in the past...... I also think the cine conveys atmosphere better than digital vid. Sometimes the cine sprocket sounds get mixed in with the loco beats in the fast sections which is also rather engaging. Enough, I guess you get that I love this!
Thanks very much for your kind comments. I believe that performances from the locos and crews were a lot less, shall we say, conservative than they are now. I certainly feel that cine film gives a better image than early VHS and the camera I used was by no means an expensive model
Great fun watching these classic shots Austin. Playing spot the location and wondering whether we'll ever see some of the lovley old ladies out on the mainline ever again. Sheer magic. Chris
Thanks Chris, I should have included the location details on the first two films, I intend to add them soon. It would be wonderful to see some of these old friends again and to film them with better equipment
Hey, stop making me feel old! Seriously, it's one of the reasons why I'm uploading these old films as there must be a lot of younger enthusiasts who'll enjoy seeing some of these locos which are no longer on the mainline
Awesome footage of some great Locomotives Austin...Too many to mention....great to see films you have made, and the quality is excellent.....looking forward to part two....Steve.
Thanks Steve, the quality isn't too bad considering the films were only projected onto a white card. Film actually gives a better image than original VHS
Great vintage shots Austin! I really enjoyed watching them and the locos which are currently off line. The K1 is a tremendous battler and powerful for its size. My wife and I travelled behind it on the Jacobite last year and she really dug in on the stiff climbs of the West Highland line - very impressive. Nice also to see 4472 and 4767, and the shot of 850 was great. The unusual 8 beat exhaust was shown off better than any other I've seen. A fitting tribute to your work and great that they're saved for posterity. Best wishes! Ken
Many thanks Ken, like you I've always been an admirer of the K1 and as you say she puts in some wonderful performances on the West Highland line. I was never very keen on 850 as she was so quiet but of course I'm glad I captured her in action. The shot you mention was of her leaving Northwich on a Trans Pennine Pullman...happy days
Magic stuff Austin , a real blast from the past . Recognised Giggleswick bank a few times and Stockber . Good inch of snow up here so looks good for the 24th .
Thanks Steve, as you know Giggleswick bank was a real favourite of mine and I've been lucky to see some good runs up there. The snow sounds good, let's hope it lasts
Hi Steve, great stuff by Austin! We are heading down country for some countryside shots of the return Winter CME on Saturday, using a taxi! so hoping for reasonable weather and who knows, we might pass one another somewhere?! Best wishes for 2015. Ken
Let's face it many of the drivers back then ran steam in there heyday for decades of service. The drivers today only worked with steam in it's final hours and never clocked up the millions of hrs of service their predecessors did. The old timers ran them the same as they did back in service days. Many of today's drivers run as if they are scared to test or load the machine. Thankfully not all of them.
It certainly was Matt but we've got plenty to keep us occupied now and look at the powerful cameras we all own to capture images in such quality compared to these old films.

Ha ha, hidden away for many years Bob and yes, there's plenty to come to bore the viewers!
Ah, nostalgia - the sound of a film projector!
Thanks Austin

Superb!
Here is the beginning of a great series.
Austin thank you to share with us your treasures filmed there for over thirty years.

Many thanks for the memories of the days when you had to fight for a door window and of the many friends who sadly are no longer with us. Alan
Many thanks Alan. I did sound recordings too and after a runpast would get back on quickly to grab a window. It's true that we make many friends when involved with railways and these films remind me of many wonderful days out
Thanks for this nostalgie trip. It will be good to see KGV back in action sometime.
Wonderful shots. Thank you.
Cheers Graham, glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching
Nice one Austin. Great footage of vintage mainline steam. Cheers, Dave.

Great footage Austin, loved seeing old footage before I was born. Like the City of Wells shot. Regards JamesandPeter

very nice shots of Scotsman and 34092, good location that. Really catches the sound well.
Thank you, yes it was a favourite spot of mine, always got a decent performance there

Brilliant old footage Austin. Great seeing the some of the old engines in their hay days. Fascinating to watch. C&A
Thanks, it was an interesting time with such a lot of livery variations
EMuksteam this is 1980. None of these locomotives are in their heydays

That was great mate like the king looked superb and Clun Castle.
Kev
Thanks very much, looking forward to filming Clun in slightly better quality soon!
acw71000 Look forward to seeing it.
Kev
Most enjoyable. "The old ones are the best ones" - cine films as well :)
Ha ha, thanks Alan, certainly makes me feel old running through these films again
This film is awesome!
Thank you, I do tend to think we were spoiled back then with some wonderful loco performances which we don't seem to see these days

great captures...and where is everybody? hardly a spectator in sight! brilliant
Thanks very much, I did my best to keep the onlookers out of shot as much as I could. Believe me, there were quite a few about!
Depends how you wish to use it Andrew. If you'd like to send me a message outlining what you have in mind it would be helpful
