    I previewed the game and its quite impressive honestly. There's a lot of surprising moments in the prototype. I think the biggest warning is if you're looking for something minis heavy and heavy gameplay in general, this is not your game. If you're looking for a battle game, this is not your game. If you like building and survival this is your game. This is more about discovery more than anything. At least what the prototype leads you to believe.

    Thanks for your honesty! It's always refreshing to watch your videos because you are not afraid to point out concerns in games that are sent to you as prototypes. I never feel like your opinion is "bought" even when it's a Gamefound offering. I have Robinson Crusoe Collector's Edition already on the way with all the content so as cool as this looks I'll likely stick with that but Stonesaga is still on my radar. Would you draw any comparisons between this and Paleo? I like the difficulty and decision space of Paleo, especially the crafting options as you go along.

    Was very interested, until I saw the price tag. $132 + 30 for shipping Canadian for the Core box! $265 with the 2 expansions! That is massively over priced in my opinion.

    I really appreciate the honesty you exhibit in your reviews. This game is very appealing to me. In fact, during your explanation of the game play, it had a very "This War of Mine" feel to it, and I happen to like that game very much. I need to check out everything they show on the Kickstarter page and want to read the rule book to see how they use all the events and resting periods. I don't recall if you said anything specific about the fatigue factor or lack of enough food causing issues. It certainly does in This War of Mine. As you say, I'll have to keep my eye on this one. Thanks much.

      @KRate10 Рік тому +1

      I played the alpha and beta tests and there are indeed effects if you don’t have enough food/water/rest. During the night phase, it will be checked if you got food and water for your character. Then there will be a night card with an event where you can usual role for some skill test and see how your dealing with rain or animal noises during the night. If you haven’t prepared yourself during the day, the night will not be very restful and you won’t have a lot of energy for the next day. If you prepared well, all your energy (action points) will be refreshed again.

      @@jamessullivan5168 And another thing: shelter and/or fire is needed as well to fully recharge, so there are a lot of things to keep in mind to be able to still be fully functioning. If your character got all they needed during the night phase, you’ll even be able to boost an ability or heal an injury/illness

    I am currently a backer but still undecided if I’ll stick it out. Price was higher than I anticipated. It’s strange that I too found the writing down rules… strange… stickers would be amazing. “Find rule 76 and put in your journal” would be nice.

    One bright side they have said that you are never forced to write new rules down and they can be found on cards. They just encourage you to write the new rules down for an easier ability to get to them. I have no idea how writing the rules down and then searching through a journal would be easier than looking at a provided card, but its what they said. Still on the fence with this one. Need to watch some videos, but with TMB Skyrim coming, I may be forced to pass even if I like it.

    Who has the time to play all these campaign games.
    I think Jeremy Howard recently did a video about how there are just too many huge campaign games. Ain't nobody got that type of time, and it ends up picking and choosing which ones to devote your time to, and which ones end up not getting played.
    I think the campaign market is over-crowded. It's not only competing with other campaign games, but also role-playing games that fulfill a similar niche.

    Nice summary. I am on the fence with this game the sense of exploration / discovery and especially crafting is very appealing. I watched a full playthrough of scenario 1 so i realize my impressions are "instinctive" (like that concept..gonna borrow it), but i saw two things, 1 major and one minor that I didnt care for. The minor one was that illnesses and wounds didnt seem to affect the character in skill checks and if one has a couple minor illnesses surely they will be less capable at strength checks. the biggest one is the die roll. A single six sider with almost no mitigation, produces what amounts to a crap shoot on skill checks.. This was very evident in the One Stop Co-op Shop playthrough. I realize that survival is hard, but i also felt there was just too little impact i, as a player had, on whether or not i succeeded.
    Gonna watch chapter 2 and see if my opinion changes.
    OH, i and i fully agree the first chapter does an excellent job of presenting the rules and actions and teaching the game.

    I've been thinking about this and other adventure-type games and an essential issue they all have: A positive feedback cycle. If you succeed, they naturally give you positive rewards, which increase your chances of succeeding next time and making the game too easy. If you fail, you either get a negative consequence or, at the least, don't get the positive rewards, increasing your chances of failing in the future and potentially making the experience too hard. The obvious solution would be to have positive rewards in terms of equipment and ability to face challenges coupled with increased challenges going forward, and visa versa, but I've not seen any system that actually adopts that. Anyone know of something like that? And/or disagree with my premise?

    I think I’m skipping this one, though I was tempted. I really, really don’t like crowdfunding campaigns with early bird bonuses. That just seems like really taking too much advantage of FOMO, and it makes me disinclined to back. (As always, there are exceptions. I missed the early bird window for Tamashi and still ended up going all in and adding the early bird mini because I just absolutely loved the game.) But, 7th Continent can still scratch the exploration and survival itch for me. And, 7th Citadel will theoretically deliver one day.

    This probably isn’t a game for me, but it does have an interesting design. It reminds me of the pc/video game Don’t Starve. Personally, I’m not a fan of survival games, and I typically find crafting in games tedious. So I didn’t care for Don’t Starve. But a couple people in my game group really enjoyed it. So while this game is a pass for me, I’m sure it’ll be a great fit for others.

    Im really interested in this game, but i can only assume that it is a one-shot game with the way discovery works. I love the concept, but it really bothers me that you are left with something you wont want throw away in the end, but cant play again.

    • @KRate10
      @KRate10 Рік тому +1

      I played the first few challenges twice now and there are some elements you remember (like some of the crafting recipes) and some things you’ll do the same. But the valley is different, the behemoths are different and there are many cards and activities that are pretty randomised. So you might solve a challenge differently because of the things you found/crafted/etc which leads you to different new challenges and goals. It’s not a linear game and randomness and your choices in how to approach things will make for different games if you start new.

    I had a lot of the same negatives when looking at it. The character sheets seem very blah as far as graphic design and they seem to not have much variety across different characters. Having to write on the cards was the biggest nope for me. It just makes the final design of the game look like it's still a prototype instead of a well polished amazing looking game. And I can only assume that's not going to change considering they are selling packs of new cards in case you run out. I'm not willing to invest in a game where I may run out of components a year or 5 years down the road and the only way to get more was from their Kickstarter. In my opinion they should have been dials or just a pad of character sheets which are easier to photocopy later. While I love crafting/survival games, the $200 price point for all the game play content is just too high for what it is. I think it will get boring after a while repeating the same mechanics and with Tainted Grail's pledge manger opening soon and with me being on the fence with Kingdoms Forlorn and the new Set a Watch expansion there are just too many better games begging for my money to invest this much.

    • @roseability86
      @roseability86 Рік тому +1

      The whole point is that the card represents an individual in your tribe and the information needs to be available in future games. I guess you could record it in your journal or something but a dial wouldn't cut it because you wouldn't be able to refer back to the earlier generations in later games if you had no record of them.
