Def in my top 10 and possibly top 5 of all time. I beat it a few years ago and couldnt believe how long it was. The only criticism is not knowing where to go if you save on the world map and dont play for a while
I have a physical copy of the PS1 Wild ARMs and I've been a fan of it for years, and NEVER heard of this version before. Sadly, copies of Alter Code F are now in the 300-500$ range now. 😭
I'm trying to get into the wild arms series and I've heard from a person that loves the series that three is considered the best one among others but his favorite being four.
Man, Jirard flailing his arms wildly even off screen was huge plays. Reminds me of a game I have called Enchanted Arms. Haven't played it much, but it seemed pretty fun.
Holy shit I don't think ive ever seen someone openly mention Enchanted Arms. That game was a huge piece of my childhood and my god the combat was stellar. I loved the turn based/grid based combat
the Wild Arms director went on to be an anime director and the last show he directed, Symphogear, is one of my favorites, is increrdibly amazing. I reccomend everyone to watch it.
@@sharebear421 It is. And it's apparently super hype. I didn't think magical girl stuff could go beyond "oh Sailor Moon exists, okay Cardcaptors is more interesting" to Pretty Cure basically being Super Sentai style stories, let alone *Madoka.* Magical girl shows are legit.
On the topic of remakes Jirard has talked about how Metal Gear Solid is one of his least anticipated games for new game+. Don't forget that Twin Snakes exists! It's way easier than MGS1 and has no VR missions. So to make it easier on himself Jirard should complete Twin Snakes instead and just do a normal playthrough of the original as a primer. Hope that helps.
As someone who is getting his ass kicked by MGS TS but did okay with MGS 1, Twin Snakes is really only easier if you're already familiar with MGS2, which I am not either
Twin Snakes is hot fucking garbage. The MGS2 mechanics in the level design, enemy layouts, and boss designs of MGS1, none of which were designed with MGS2 mechanics in mind, makes the game pathetically, laughably easy. They also added in dog tag collecting from MGS2, but provided ABSOLUTELY NO REWARDS FOR DOING IT even though the entire point of collecting them in MGS2 was for the cool rewards you got for your trouble. The cutscenes completely change Snake's character for the worse, turning him from the cautious, hardened veteran of the original game to this cocky, showoffy rookie making utterly stupid, dangerous decisions for the sake of looking cool, and made him even meaner to Otacon than he was in the original, making their friendship at the end come out of nowhere and feel completely phony and undeserved while in the original Snake was always pretty easy on him except for a couple moments of understandable anger and frustration, all of which actually made their friendship developing feel genuine. The cutscenes also add a lot of really awful humor in horrifically out-of-place spots that completely ruins moments that were serious and weighty in the original. The voiceovers are all far, far below the quality of the original game. Jeremy Blaustein wrote the English dialogue and directed the voice actors in the original game, and he got amazing performances out of the cast because he knew exactly how each line should be read since he wrote them all himself. Some other jackhole did the voice direction on Twin Snakes and it results in the voices sounding completely phoned-in and soulless. The remixed music lacks the atmosphere and gravitas of the original's music, and the cleaner graphics take a lot away from the original's gritty, dirty look, all of which has a strongly negative effect on the game's mood and tone. Twin Snakes sucks week old gas station hot dogs. I hope Jirard stays far, far away from it. But he won't. I'm sure he'll be reviewing it for MGS NG+.
The first time Sony remade one of their games for a new generation. Would like a new Wild Arms especially now that a new Star Ocean was just announced. Got Fantasy and Space JRPGs covered now we need a Western.
@@thepuppetmaster9284 if by chance you mean you. hope then sure. wild arms is a largely forgotten and already niche RPG. chances are basically zero unfortunately.
Awesome video man, lately I've been obsessed with the wild arms 3 battle song, that was the one I got really into as a kid Would love to see more ports of these to play them on modern consoles
Love both versions of the game. The Hanging Gardens. I was stuck in that place for hours, the original, due to not noticing the wall was missing in the lit windows. I actually bought it from the video store I rented it from since I was the only one in town that rented it. I paid $40 for it I think? I do own all of the Wild Arms. Holy Crap Alter F is so expensive. I think I found it in a bargin bin for $5. It sold so poorly that the store didn't want to waste shelf space on it.
I'm not going to lie, the Wild Arms music in your old reviews is part of the reason I got hooked into your show. I KNEW that music, and went "yeah, this guy gets it."
Gotta say, Wild Arms is one of my favorite games. I listen to the music all the time still. Also I got stuck in the original for like 3 years in the disappearing castle in the desert because the path forward was a doorway that looked exactly like all the windows next to it. The internet was still young so I couldn't just look up a guide to solve it. Still love the game though.
A couple of problems already. 1: Alter Code F came out before Wild Arms 4, it was running the Wild Arms 3 engine. 2: You forgot about Wild Arms XF on the PSP. We almost didn't get that game because of Wild Arms 4. In fact, because 4 was so bad and there was no way of knowing if XF was coming stateside, they put the bonus bosses of Wild Arms 5 out on the open world for you to find and fight without needing XF. Because, in Japan, in order to fight the over-world bonus bosses, you needed a copy of Wild Arms XF, a PSP to PS2 connection cable and Wild Arms 5. So the localizers just made the bosses playable without any extra steps. And then we got XF anyway.
Seeing this video just makes me miss my PSX/PS2 JRPG collection that got swiped... Wild Arms 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and AF. Suikoden 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and Tactics. FF7, 8, 9, X, X-2, and FFT. Star Ocean 2 and 3. Vandal Hearts 1 and 2. Valkyrie Profile. I miss seeing my collection on my shelf.
Jokes on YOU Jirard, I am already a Wild Arms fan and knew where that you've been using the battle music for almost as long as the channel has existed ( Personally , favorite is Wild Arms 3)

HOORAY WILD ARMS!! I love this series, and it always makes me happy when you cover the games. Alter Code F is one of my most wanted PS2 games of all time. Considering that almost every PS2 entry in this series is ludicrously expensive, I always hold out hope that they'll get some kind of rerelease... Especially since seeing all the awesome content added makes me want to play it even more
Hearing the battle music as something so naturally ingrained yet it being from a series I've never touched was awesome! Love knowing where such an iconic part of this show originates from.
Great video, Jirard. Glad you still love Wild ARMS. It deserves so much love. 2 is amazing and I wish you'd do that one someday. ACF handles Rudy so well. He never speaks but still has so much personality in the remake. I miss the series so much.
The Wild Arms theme song is what got me into jRPG for the first time in my life. I didn't have the game. I heard it at a friend's house, and that got me hooked on jRPG for 20 years. Not too shabby.
This channel led me to pseudo completing games myself, and for as long as it's around, I'll always come back to this channel for the warm fuzziness that it provides
Didn't even know this existed. I was playing Wild Arms on a PS1 emulator on the phone 10 years ago during downtime in the army, and I have very fond memories of the music and this game. Seems like a great remake.
My memories of Wild Arms are that it and Suikoden were the games I played while waiting for FF7 to be released on the PSX! What an amazing time for video games.
Please do more JRPGs, this was such a treat. I grew up with Wild Arms and hate that we'll probably never get another. Anyway, there are so many amazing lesser-known JRPGs that would make for great episodes.
Might be time for a replay. I have 100%ed all the games (including the psp tactics game, Crossfire), and have had the title song as my phone alarm for over a decade now. God I love this series
With the original one being one of my all time favorite games (and the first game I've ever finished all by myself), I'm really bumped this one never got released in Europe...
Im still working on my first playthrough, but I can certainly credit Jirard and Alex for getting me to play the original. I've owned Wild Arms 2 for years and I had gotten it from a friend and I had NO idea about the series aside from that for YEARS. It still feels like WA has flown under the radar for years. WA 3 Is absolutely fantastic though, really blending the Wild West with the Sci-fi Fantasy.
I played the original right when it came out and all these tracks brought back sooo much great memories (even gave me the goosebumps). I loved the original PS version so much that I was scared of even touching this version thinking it would most likely ruin the whole thing. Im so glad I was wrong and now I actually feel like looking into getting me a copy and dusting off my old PS2.
I've never played any games from the series, but I've heard of Wild Arms through SupraDarky's best video game music list here on UA-cam. So the one thing I knew before watching this video was that the music of the series was very well made.
This is the first I've ever heard of this game, but it sounds like a really well designed game and the creators put a lot of thought and effort into the remake instead of a money grab. Respect that
I love that you tackled a series that I've loved so much. And I always loved hearing that battle theme in your videos. Hell, just look at the profile pic. Thanks for covering a game near and dear to my heart.
Been looking forward to this New Game + episode the most. The original Wild Arms episode was the first ever Completionist video I watched, because I love that game. I love this game too. Thank you Jirard for putting in the extra effort to complete Wild Arms: Alter Code f!
the teenage nostalgia is strong for wild arms! i have to say that i missed this one, as if i knew Calamity Jane was a playable character, I definitely would have picked this up on release
Wild Arms is my first RPG in PS one, and is how i met my girlfriend in real life, now wife. So that game means a lot to me. I been a fan of WA2 and WA3. But stopped playing and forget about that series. Now thanks to this video i realize there were other Wild Arms remastered, "WA alter Code F" and watching this video almost make me cry. Thank you Cmpletionist for this amazing video.
Thank you so much for reviewing this. I love this series so much. I really wish this series continued. Star Ocean still going, I guess we can still hope.....
Dope video dude. I love when you do a different version of a game on new game plus. Happy 10 year anniversary to TOVG/The Completionist! I wish that you have hoy doing this for as long as you can!
The physical copy of this game is already insane in price. Can't wait for the price to hike because of this video. Great vid though. Edit: missed some words
I remember seeing Alter Code F copies literally just sitting on shelves in a local Gamestop for ages since seemingly nobody wanted them. Going from seeing that to the prices copies are demanding now is wild lol
Oh man, talk about nostalgic. I remember playing the first Wild Arms on playstation as a kid. Each time I booted it up I never could bring myself to skipped the intro. Just as Jirard says, the whistling is godtier. There was also that damn rat, looking way too cute. Jack was my fav.
Love the Wild Arms series. There's something to be said about a JRPG that takes place in an American western setting. Wild Arms 3 is to this day one of my favorite RPGs, and it hold up with it's cell shaded graphics. Haven't played the first one, so you have go me excited to try it out. Great OST's throughout as well.
Wild Arms is one of my favorite game series and I still have my original copies of all the games. Maybe it is time to bring out the PS2 and play through them again.
5:00 I knew where that song was from the moment i heard it when i first started watching your videos. I had played some hours of the original as PS1 Classic digital download from the PlayStation network store, and I have played it both on my PSP as well as PS3. Although I was only ever able to get about 6 hours into the game before getting stuck those 6 hours I enjoyed over and over again.
I really enjoyed the first Wild Arms as did my brother. We both enjoyed growing up with RPGs. The first Legend of Legaia game is another favorite and one of only a handful I completed multiple times.
Oh my gosh, Girard! Wild arms is my second favorite RPG of all time! I had no clue, at all, that they made a remake for PS2!?! Well… I know what I’m doing when I get home from the road😄
It's nice to see Wild Arms getting some love. I miss the games and, though it may seem like wishful thinking, I would love for the series to get a reboot to see if modern western audiences would appreciate them the way I and probably many others do to. It's just that unique blend of JRPG with spaghetti western that somehow worked which makes the series so interesting.
I remember when I watched you play the original on Beard Bros. I was confused because I had only known about this remake. Glad you got the full experience on both!
Wild Arms: Alter Code F used to be my gold standard for game remakes, until Resident Evil 2 arrived. It's still high on the list, even with the amazing waves of remakes we got in the last two years. An absolute must play!
Huh, I must have had the luck of the gods all those years ago when I picked up copy of this game at a used game store. I picked it up mainly because I didn't have the original game, but loved the hell out of Wild Arms 2. Which I also picked up used, albeit without proper packaging. The mixture of a Western themed JRPG world with sci-fi and fantasy attracted me to it. And that's always been a good thing. Interestingly enough, I happened to also have picked up a strategy guide for it from a Barnes and Noble. Still have it, along with one for Chrono Cross.
Wild Arms was the first RPG that I played properly to completion. I had heard FF7 was amazing but wanted to learn how to play rpgs first, so I rented Wild Arms over a few months. It absolutely blew me away, I still love it and own a copy. I got stuck at that chest puzzle in De Le Metallica until a magazine I used to buy released a walkthrough. I knew nothing of Alter Code F, I'm usually against remakes. But after watching this, I can say the most positive thing about it is: they did my boy Zed honourably. Dude had such a hard time in the original, nice to see him become a playable character.
Wild Arms 1 is still in my top 10 games. The Wild Arms Anime is amazing, I recommend it constantly as a lesser know show along with Sand of Destruction. Some of the better video game to anime adaptations.
I remember I first discovered the wild arms series the same time that I got into the anime Trigun vis toonami. For me, those two are intertwined. Such a fever dream of a game. I think 3 and 4 were my favorite.
Please do a Completionist episode for the first Wild Arms! On top of covering an amazing game it would be an awesome throwback to your Super Beard Bros vids.
Not many games takes the wild west aspect into the rpg genre and does it right on top of it, Wild Arms alter Code F managed to suffice that need I had .
The encounter cancel mechanic reminds me of how things are in Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass. Basically, if an encounter is low-level enough, the red *!* that appears during a random encounter is instead green, and you can basically ignore the battle if you're not feeling "fresh". It's a cool feature, though I'm more into having enemies represented on the overworld and having to sneak by them, kinda like how Paper Mario and Bug Fables does it.

I love that you tackled a series that I've loved so much. And I always loved hearing that battle theme in your videos. Hell, just look at the profile pic. Thanks for covering a game near and dear to my heart.
Jirard: "I put in 110 hours. That is a ton for a PS2 JRPG."
Star Ocean Till the End of Time: "Hold my beer."
Star Ocean You'll Be Playing Till the End of Time
Been looking forward to this New Game + episode the most. The original Wild Arms episode was the first ever Completionist video I watched, because I love that game. I love this game too. Thank you Jirard for putting in the extra effort to complete Wild Arms: Alter Code f!
I don't believe I lived to the day the completionist covered this game
Awesome video as always
#STRONGFORWILDARMS6
So nice to see one of my favorite game series getting some attention. Thanks Jirard!
the teenage nostalgia is strong for wild arms! i have to say that i missed this one, as if i knew Calamity Jane was a playable character, I definitely would have picked this up on release
I love this series. It is nice to see it getting some love on The Completionist.
Thank you so much for reviewing this. I love this series so much. I really wish this series continued. Star Ocean still going, I guess we can still hope.....
I am so happy you did this. My Filgaian heart is uplifted!
I'm so happy more people get to know about this game. Thanks for reviewing this game!
this was a proper example of a remake, if only all remakes went to this degree.
Completely agree.
THAT'S WHERE THAT SONG IS FROM?! I have to play wild arms now, I'll forever associate that song with this channel.
It's way better with the sound ! Once again it's a really good video !
That is amazing! I knew your struggle music sounded familiar! I was OBSESSED with Wild ARMs 1 & 2.
I love that I've always known where this song came from
Wild Arms is one of my favorite game series and I still have my original copies of all the games. Maybe it is time to bring out the PS2 and play through them again.
I'm so happy to own a copy of this game. It's one of my greatest video game treasures. I love this series.
I was just thinking about Wild Arms and had no idea it had a remake. Now I’m hyped to play it.
I never thought I would see a video on this game come to light (again) and before watching it I am already excited
Wow I missed this, never expected you to play or make a video about one of my favorite games of all time.

Beedle Voice: OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH
Great review Jirard :) Glad ya love Wild Arms as much as I do.
I still love the new intro!
The fact we are two generations removed from getting a Wild Arms game 😑
Ah yes. I like. This right here is content. Thank you.
These arms out here be wildin
I really enjoyed the first Wild Arms as did my brother. We both enjoyed growing up with RPGs. The first Legend of Legaia game is another favorite and one of only a handful I completed multiple times.
Oh my gosh, Girard! Wild arms is my second favorite RPG of all time! I had no clue, at all, that they made a remake for PS2!?! Well… I know what I’m doing when I get home from the road😄
*Jirard
I loved Wild Arms and had no idea this remake existed, neat!
*Checks Amazon*
$200+ used. Welp.
If only SONY remembered they owned Wild Arms…. Man how great it would be
I remember when I watched you play the original on Beard Bros.
I really enjoyed the love you gave to Wild Arms.
My first livestream of yours was wildarms. Glad to see it’s video out
The encounter cancel mechanic reminds me of how things are in Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass.
