This Volvo 740 Turbo might have a good motor...

  • I don't like scrapping cars but in some cases they are good for a few parts to keep other cars on the road. Fortunately this one was cheap and doesn't run. While stripping the car I made the realization that the turbo motor might actually be good...
Lets see if we can get it out without injury!

For anyone interested Rockauto is having a clearance sale on Volvo 240 parts right now. I just bought a rebuilt starter, 4 NKG iridium plugs, 4 oil filters, trans service kit, brake hardware x 4 wheels, a thermostat and seal all for $97!

I just discovered your channel a few days ago and subbed immediately. I have a thing for Cadillacs and Volvos and this is the first channel I've seen that anyone has worked on a Volvo let alone specialize in Volvos. I'm learning a lot even though I will probably never own a Volvo. You have a great sense of humor and you and your wife make an awesome team. Congratulations on the new job too!

I just got my 2nd 240. Hasn't passed MOT in 10 years, many owners, mileage stuck. Rusty. But after fixing a coolant leak, adding some oil and coolant along with some petrol and she started right up. Drove it 150km home and will now replace the floor near the driver and passenger side, and rear right passenger floor. Frame was also bad around these areas so I'm rebuilding the frame. GOod to see other people doing what they can to save these cars.

Either way, you'll have a great car. I lucked out and had my 81 242 TIC repainted in 2000 by the old original Volvo dealer here on Houston, Niels Sefeldt. They were acquired by one of the mega dealers (AutoNation or Sonic, etc.) but were great while they were family run. BTW, black cars are awfully hot here during these southern summers. Even my silver 84 242 TIC with a black interior gets very hot when left in the sun. Always looking for shade or covered parking in the summer as the R134A AC just doesn't cool the car down very quickly.

Whats funny about your comment… on the way back from the scrap yard i went to HF and bought a truck bed crane for $120 and two vehicle dollies(they hold the weight better). I mounted the crane to the front corner of the trailer and its the perfect height to pick the motor/trans and swing it off the trailer and set it on the ground.
I also have dirty thoughts of a lift mounted on a trailer…
