Your paint repair videos are the best! Have to repair my bumper due to the car behind me rolling into me at an intersection. Bumper is damaged from the license plate screw head. Going to use your method(s).
Bought my first car a month ago and am getting a ton of chips (14 Camry) even though I stopped tailgating I’m still constantly getting them. Is this normal for highway driving?
My go to for chips is a prep pen/spot sanding pen. Highly recommend if you haven't tried it - it has a tip made of stiff fiberglass strands that allows you to sand all the rust and crap out of the chip very easily without marring the finish around the chip.
Can you show a video of doing the same to a silver metallic paint? I did it on mine but although it was paint matched the metallics turned out too dark/flipped to darker shade. Thanks!
What do you do if you applied too much paint to one spot and its dried and dripped? Do you wet sand it again to get rid of the drip mark? Lastly before i do damage...whats the grit of sandpaper what buffs out with polish? scared to go in with sand paper on my car haha!
It depends how bad the run/drip is. A big mistake people make is not using a low enough grit and end up rounding it off rather than flatting it. If its a very bad drip I've been known to use 600 grit, 1000/1200/1500/2000 then polish. Most runs if they are not too bad I can usually knock down and skip the 600 and 1000. If you burn through the lacquer then you will need to key up the area and apply more base and clear again. Ie repeat the repair process again. Make sure all paints are dried thoroughly before flatting and any re attempts at refinishing.
Hey, thanks for taking the time to share such a great vid. I was curious, after the paint pen is there a protective cote after? I didn't see it? an then if there is do you mop and polish after application? Cheers dude, Lee
In this particular method (there are many) i just used solvent basecoat in the chips. In this method the polishing was done before. The touched in chip is the final finish
VW's are the worst ! My twin brother and I both had Golf R's, new stone chips every day. 2014 onwards, VW really cutting corners with paint application. New subscriber😁
Great to see your back with the videos i was wanting to ask you what do you use on the compressor for stopping water going into your airline when spraying i would be grateful if you could could help me thanks
Hi Brian its always a must to invest in a half decent water trap for this exact reason. Pipe it up in between your compressor and end of airline and ur good
Yes. This finish is good enough. People seem to play about with it after touch up to make it right when I think preparation at the start is more important
He said it's an empty pen, that fine tip is the key. You don't need a pen, you can use a needle or even those fine dental picks. Just put a dab of paint on the tip and let it flow into the chip. I think even a toothpick would work but those wear out too quickly.
Great video mate, I heard a rumour that paint gear might be releasing a paint touch up kit, with single colours or multiple colours and everything else needed for a repair, is this true? and when can we expect it to be available? Keep up the great work and thanks for passing on your expertise.
The video makes it look like all the chips have disappeared. There is no way you would get satisfactory results with the steps shown. You notice he never showed a close up shot of the repair. Waste of time.
The only things I would say to that is for "steps shown" After the paint dried maybe he did a quick really fine wet sanding and feathered/blended in a couple clear coats(idk if that is the right term I'm thinking of) off camera. In which case IF he did something like that or at least similar then yeah he probably should of included it. As for the part about not showing a close up I'd definitely defend him on that one. Like yeah he doesn't get as close as before above the left(left side if standing in front of and facing the car) headlight but above the right headlight as he pans over he gets pretty damn close if not just as close as before to that area haha. I am only commenting about those two areas to keep this comment as short as possible so I'll just say I think I remember him getting pretty close to the rest to comfortably consider them "close ups" as well.
Great video mate. Something I’ll def watch twice

What about the finishing off of the paint touch-up? How did you get the level of the touch-up done, sander, etc?
You're changing the game with these videos 😎🤙🏽
Another nice job. 😉
Cheers

Come to my house and teach me how to fix my chips :D. Great video pal
Haha thanks pal

Thank you. When the paint is spread, how long to dry and is it necessary to sand or polish ?
Leave 12 hours ideally

Yes mate this works well also 👍
Did you use primer or clear coat on top of the colour coat? Sanding & polishing should be done as last steps also shouldn’t it?
Just colour coat mate. Adding primer etc is adding too may stages. Sometimes its good to add lacquer to the basecoat
Is that an anti rust paste you are applying. If so, what is the brand
Kurust
@@cvrpov Much appreciated
So do you not need to wet sand after the paint to ensure its fully blends?
Polish the blend area. Wet sanding is to remove imperfections
So polish will remove the touch-up if it has domed above the repaired chip?@cvrpov
Hi mate, could you show how is setup your van please?
Hi bud I've dont a part video on this but still adding bits to the van so there will be a vid down the line
Please delivery in Brazil. Thanks
we are working on it

Silver is a tricky colour I will be tackling in the future
@@cvrpov exactly and because UA-cam has one old video it'll be great if you're the only person showing it right 👍 😁 I can't wait
Great tips mate, did you wet and dry after filling with paint or just polished over the colour??
I didnt do anything after the touch in was done. This method is slightly different to others

So can you mix a bit of base and clear ( making a single stage) to fill in the craters then also polish after too?
Where have u been it's been weeks,I was nearly going to jump off the gap.👍
Haha sorry mate. I have content, its just editing etc ive been busy with the Paint Gear site
@@cvrpov cheers
Easier to hide chip marks on white then metallic silver indeed.
I need the songs name please, great vid as usual
Thanks. Im not sure of the song name though sorry

So after you used the touch up pen what did you do to finish just leave it 😉
Yes. This finish is good enough. People seem to play about with it after touch up to make it right when I think preparation at the start is more important
@@cvrpov great stuff did you use clearcoat too or just polished in 😉
Have you got a link for that paint pen?

Nice one mate, Did you mix the paint up or buy the paint pen ???
I just use my own paint mate and an empty pen. Any paint can go in
So you tell it’s so easy, no it cant be mate. #mindblowed
Ok sorry 😬
Do you add clear coat on the repaired chips?
This will add durability yes

Can you put me on the pre order list for the paint gear touch up kit in black please.
Hi Will. Thanks for watching. Touch up kits are in the pipeline and yes you will be the 1st to recieve one. Martin @ CVR POV
👍
don’t you overfill them blade them off then polish them
That's another method. There are many
