The 2023 set looks great in a lot of ways, but I'm still personally content with my 2018 model. King Cross Station is still my favorite side build, and I like several of the design choices of the 2018 model more. I am curious about getting the Conductor minifigure and the Hogsmeade station offhand, though.
@@Scottthebassplayer98 I believe both sets will be great complimenting each other as one is platform 9 3/4 and the other is Hogsmead. The choice of train would come down to preference.
Agree about the light grey roofs, the first thing I noticed in the leaks and was bummed.. would’ve been happy if they just made Hogsmeade Station on its own.. thanks again for the detailed review and editing efforts.. you’re 1 of the only 2 reviewers who’ve mentioned Ron’s ham sandwich and choc frog card so far.. appreciate that.. at $190, I’ll be skipping this set sadly, probably just get Harry and choc frog card from Bricklink..
I think this Hogwarts Express set truly something fresh which is the station and some the figures, especially Harry’s new face print with the tape on his glasses.
I’m really glad the tender and carriage wheels had the old-style metal axles, not the cheap plastic ones used on the tram in the Winter Holiday Main Street
3:48 WELL...Did anyone else get the flashback to Chamber of secrets, when Ron and Harry has to drive with the car, and when Harry hangs out of it, Ron says: "HANG ON!" +?😂😂😂😂
The only reason I'll be getting this set is for the hogsmeade station and maybe using some parts/stickers to add more details to my moc version of the 75955 set if I feel it adds to it. Otherwise, the train itself will most likely end up in my spare parts library. My 75955 moc is motorised, fitted with led lights at the front and has 3 passenger carriages in total... meaning it is already my ultimate set simultaneously for both display and playability purposes (which means there's no reason for me to have the big UCS version, or the hogsmeade station version)
Would have liked a side by side comparison to the 2018 set included in your review. In the pictures the 2023 train just has a cheap look and not as nice as the 2018 but hard to tell from pictures. It also looks smaller and while it has 2 cars they look smaller as well. Have the 2018 and trying to make up my mind if I want to purchase the 2023.
Hi there Holly, this is a nice set. I believe that it would be relatively easy and simple to motorise the locomotive - place a 9 volt motor in the tender of the steam locomotive.
The roof colour ruins the train for me. The designer excuse has one problem: the roof didn't get darker. The difference is that in the other films there's no sun in the sky when we see the train. And because the designer apparently doesn't understand how metal works, he assumed the roof was lighter when it's still dark but the sun is hitting it, making it look lighter. Fortunately the Hogsmead train station makes up for it. I indent to keep it but disassemble the ugly train and just use the pieces to add another carriage to the UCS one. The price is exaggerated. Fortunately I already got it on discount and I'd recommend everyone to do the same. Wait.
In my mind, both the train and station should have been winterfied. I don't want to hear lame excuses from LEGO's half-assed designers, all Hogsmeade sets should be winter wonderland!
I actually really like this set! I dont have a hogwarts express yet, so I'll have to look out for this. However, theres no way Im paying full price, maybe if its ever half off. Overall, it is a great set!
Since there are so many Hogwarts Express sets at this point, if you have them all could you please do a comparison video for the minifigure scale sets?
I’m missing the first 3 (2001, 2004 and 2004 motorised) but I was going to do one featuring the rest and I’ll try to find footage of the older ones so I can briefly compare them but sadly can’t have them side by side
The cool thing is I just found out in my state of Missouri I have a Bricks and Minifigs store so I can buy this set or other sets and sell the old sets to them as used. But would it be worth picking this one up and selling the last set or just keeping it and skipping this set?
I got the 2018 one for my birthday 2021, probably gonna get this or even the massive one for my 18th cause no one listens when I say something isn't worth the price to someone who knows Lego😂😂
Really looking forward to more information about the *Advent Calendar!* You got any more? I have seen the front of the box, knowing it's Hogsmeade themed! With Harry, Ron, Hermione and I guess Malfoy in the winter clothes, so you can recreate the snowball fight and Hermione and Ron looking at the Shrieking Shack! Really wanted that since that set came out. Really curious about the other minifigs.
@@emorycrittenden7040 aaah read something about it. Shame about madame Rosmertha... since she was already in the threebroomsticks set. Abeforth is great, hopefully we will get Hogshead someday too. Also heard something about a Zonkos minibuild hopefully that referes to a future set too haha
As a train fan i don't mind another one. The 2018 is my favorite set and this one is ok. Got the save up for the big one. My frist hp set could have been the 2010 from a yard sale. The train itself is to small. Would've wished it was big enough for a moterized tender and for yhe conductor to stand inside I also just hate how the 2018 train got the splashers right and this one didn't

I've seen the real life train that was used for the Hogwarts Express in the movies, up close and personal. Its roofs are BLACK! This is a huge miss, and the designer's explanation makes no sense in the face of reality. I challenge anyone to look up pictures of "the Jacobite" train and tell me the roofs are grey. The only possibility I can see is that in some images with direct sunlight reflecting off the roof, the black looks a little lighter in color. But without any glare the surface is indisputably black.
There are so many things that are better in this set compared to the 2018 version, but also a lot of things that are worse. I still didn't made my mind witch one I like more.
How fervent are lego hp fans lmao they keep milking these movies that ended over a decade ago. How many times can you remake the same sets? Many times, apparently

Not too fussed about the train but i really want the station part for my display
I really loved this set. And I put a motor in and will try to put some LEDs inside the train cars :) Great video!
*Hope they make the Hogsmeade station of the later movies* some day as a separate little set...
Love your Hoth poster!
Would've loved if this set waited maybe a year or two, then it could've had those wonderful piston rods that debuted in the Orient Express
You right about the need to use light-bluish grey bricks for the roof.
As a Lego collector I enjoyed it loved what you showed I do agree with you those on what you said
This set, with the Minifigures from the 2018 set

@@adrianprepelita8683 it's black metal. But due to the way the metal is treated, it looks dark grey when light hits it.

Yeah the two passenger carts make it feel so much more complete
The set looks fine, I think if anyone coming from Late 2022 into Summer 2023 will probably want this to scale with the modular castle, and Hogsmeade.
Holly! Have you seen images of the new Hogwarts Castle and Grounds set!?!?
Hello Holly, cool review. Nice set, but poor place for the loco driver (would prefer a smaller tender in fav for larger loco compartment).
