    This is SO true, and I feel the exact same way. On one hand Elden Ring was (and is) my favourite game of all time. On the other hand, I dont know if I will ever replay it ever again… which is a shame. But it says something about that first experience you had going into it.

    I got a pretty awesome 2nd playthrough out of elden ring by going full int-based (instead of str/dex the first time). Got me excited about another whole set of items I didn't care about the first time. And as spells don't need any upgrade, I could try every new spell I found.

    The sad part is that I want to replay it. I want to fight Godfry and Malenia again, I want to fight Rellana, Mesmer and Midra.
    But when I think that I will have to once again aimlessly ride on torrent, collecting tree fragments, defeating for a tree spirit/guardian for 100th time, it kill all the desire I had.

    Definitely a great game that has its flaws. The first playthrough was something special but the replayability just isnt the same as the other games. Bloodborne sits at the top of the list of soulsborne games

      Yeah i couldn’t finish the dlc. Two play-through of the base game is plenty for me. The open world is incredibly tedious after the first play-through.

    Replaying it Right now after beating it the first time a week ago with about 140 hours and playing a new class is dope on a new file that being said its tedious having to remember to go to certain areas for a talisman i never used on my old file as it was a different build , so while im having a fun ...doing the open world thing feels time wasting, compared to my like New game plus file on Bloodborne that i would run back to back for hours at a time when on my days off, just felt less annoying dealing with the open world aspect and some of the damn cheese level bosses that take 100 hits but deal out 2 hit kills even on my first time around with a high health and strength build so i totally feel you

    While I loved Elden Ring I never thought it was better than Dark Souls 3 which is my favorite Fromsoft game at this point. While I enjoy the build variety in Elden Ring more, the copy/paste nature of so many things in the game made it feel bloated compared to what it could've been. I feel like 20% could have been cut & you would've still had an amazing long game.
    The Ulserated Tree Spirit is what stand sout to me most, first time I fought it was amazing but by the 4th time I didn't want to engage with them anymore.

    But hey some people love a bag of chips, so do I; just not on a miyazaki game.
    Granted he wasn't really all that involved and I understand why the pivot to a bloated genre; I only hope this is a one time thing and not the standard they'll end up putting moving forward.

    Cant help but agree with all of this, I'd persaonally rank the games as:
    1. Bloodborne
    2. Dark Souls 3
    3. Dark Souls
    4. Elden Ring
    5. Sekiro
    6. Dark Souls 2

      Sheeesh even dark souls above elden ring huh 😉

  • @magnus4945
    @magnus4945 5 місяців тому +1

    Elden ring really does have the worst replay value of the souls series, it seems paradoxical but it makes sense when you break it down.
    and for the same reasons I think ds2 has the highest replay value.
    it's about when you replay a souls game, you have a build in mind, and you will map it out and go straight to the items you need for it. in both ds2 and elden ring you can basically go in any direction very quickly from the start, but in elden ring this just means riding past everything on torrent, whereas with ds2 you're still playing the game and engaging with the levels on your way there to get your build items.
    everytime I think about replaying elden ring, the empty open world is such a negative thing to consider about it

    • @TheeOddOrange
      @TheeOddOrange  5 місяців тому

      That's a good point about ds2, especially considering the negativity that game receives too

  • @georgemen
    @georgemen 9 місяців тому +1

    It's normal. Games don't have to be made to be forever replayed. Elden Ring to me is just like a book. I've read it one time and got through all that excitement so there's no reason for me to replay it. And that's just fine and I believe miazaky was well aware of it. It was and still is a 10/10 game and the fact that replaying it would be a chore does not take that away from it - for me, at least. I don't think comparing it to soulsborne games is necessary, as the it being an open world game completely changes the way the gameplay goes. I mean, if we're comparing, we could also say that Elden Ring has the best combat system out of all of them, as it took the best elements from them and polished it in to a complete one. Soulsborne games would not work in an open world setting, as would Elden Ring not work in a closed up world.

    Gotta keep in mind that Elden Ring is considered one of the easier souls games which can explain the amount of graces and torrent (possibly). The feeling of being over leveled goes away once you reach NG+ 8, everything hurts even when I was level 267 or so and had a lot of vigor. But it’s all subjective, I love this game so much

    • @TheeOddOrange
      @TheeOddOrange  9 місяців тому +1

      I like that point about the graces, I never thought of that 🤔

    This is why I don't like open world games. It is one-and-done experience and I know not a single replayable open world. I know some open-world games with replayable story that has several endings or paths (good/evil/neutral/etc.) but open world itself is a non-replayable concept because of how much damn time it requires.
    Especially true with Elden Ring considering how much ctrl-c ctrl-v this game has and how dead and MMORPG-like this open world actually is. Just a giant map with mobs.

  • @chaozgaming8565
    @chaozgaming8565 6 місяців тому +1

    Man I've been saying these things for months, and I got called a lunatic. Elden Ring is good, but as an open world game, it only does one thing right. If you want to pursue a specific build, you can explore a giant chunk of the map withought fighting a single boss to get your build put together, and its great. But the other aspects are so... I dont even know the term, "Anti-Open World Design"? Quest design is badly implemented for open world since its seriously missable because its finding a specific npc in specific locations and reloading the game instance is so bad. And honestly, I'd rather the ends of caves and catacombs to have no bosses and just a treasure chest. When they recycle bosses, it ruins the uniqueness. In Dark Souls 1, there was only one Artorias, and not a second variant of him walking around in a different boss arena. In Elden Ring, theres like 50 statue dogs in catacombs, and I'm sick of seeing them.
