    So I want to thank you for this video and how well it was put together ! I have been suffering from low left back and hip pain and an mri revealed I had trochanteric hip bursitis. After spending a small fortune on PT and a cortisone injection as well as trying numerous UA-cam videos, I had little to no relief. Your upload has really made a difference and I have following it twice a day for a week and finally have some relief. I can't thank you enough and I sincerely hope more folks find your channel and follow your stretches & exercises.

My acupuncturist, chiropractor, and podiatrist were great as well as PT but your video has made a huge difference. 60 and torn 2 ankle tendons because my mind still thinks I am 30. The area on hip can be painful and sensitive to touch also

    • @TheSeniorCenteredPT
      @TheSeniorCenteredPT  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much for your comment! I would recommend seeing your physical therapist if things don't seem to be healing. It may be that you have a true bursitis and really what you need is rest. Also, it could be that strengthening, rather than stretching is the key. Check with your PT and see what they say, thanks again!

    Thank you for your video. Some Dr say NO stretching especially no crossing legs. Why is there such a big difference of opinion? Also, is it bad to lift objects.

    • @TheSeniorCenteredPT
      @TheSeniorCenteredPT  Місяць тому +1

      Yeah so there’s different practitioners which have different expertise which can lead to different opinions. Also, crossing the legs to stretch or find space is different than crossing the legs while sitting which can lead to increased tightness/pain. Ultimately, if a movement is causing you pain (no matter who recommends it) you should ditch that exercise/movement. I would say it’s just important to lift with good form whether someone has bursitis or not- so making sure bending ones legs, not rounding in the back, and breathing while lifting- hope that helps! And as always, check in with your provider before doing any activity 😊

  • @bettyframe8044
    @bettyframe8044 Рік тому +1

    Doc recommended light stretching but we have decreased mobility, so most of these aren’t possible. Any recommendations for an elderly person who had decreased mobility before bursitis (now it’s 1000 times worse) she’s had PT and was DC’d. We’ve been continuing the work at home and a mini squat exercise caused her bursitis.

    • @TheSeniorCenteredPT
      @TheSeniorCenteredPT  Рік тому +1

      With true bursitis resting first is really important. So it may be that the rest period for the legs needs to be a little longer. Once the pain is calmed down exercises that focus on increasing strength in the hips will hopefully help. As always, make sure to check with your provider or seek out a new provider if you’re still experiencing no relief

    Do you recommend massage therapy for a sore inflamed bursa on the hip? How do you reduce the pain? I assume ice and ibuprofen. Does the muscle need to be rubbed to help pain go away? Thanks

    • @TheSeniorCenteredPT
      @TheSeniorCenteredPT  2 роки тому +2

      So each person is really different in terms of what helps with pain so I can’t make any specific recommendations in terms of medications. I prefer ice to heat to help with inflammation. For some people stretching and touch can help to reduce pain as does things like TENS units but this is more general to pain rather than bursitis. I would recommend talking with you PT and/or primary care for specific recommendations to address your pain

      Hi Mike! With hip labrum tear, you want to focus on hip strengthening so yes, some of these may help. In general, side lying work, side steps with or without resistance, and bridges are exercises generally recommended for hip labrum tears. Of course, I always advise anyone to speak directly with their own physical therapist before starting an exercise program.

      From what I understand the bursa is inflamed because the other muscles around it have decided to not work like they should. Therefore the tendon that floats over the bursa causes inflammation of the bursa. The exercises are to wake up the muscles that are not doing their job which will allow the bursa to heal. It took awhile to get here and it will take awhile to recover. If you completely stop then it will get worse. Good luck in your pursuit of health ♥️

    A sensitive point, but…..a DPT is not an MD. And while technically it is a “doctor” degree, it is not a PhD, or MD. In the health care context, patients who do not know this could be misinformed by referring to yourself as “dr.” It is a recent development in the history of higher ed. it is not even a research degree. As an epidemiologist and infectious disease doc, as well as a professor-and medical ethicist-I think that you ought to reconsider referring to yourself as “doctor.” Were it not for the issue of unintentionally misleading patients, I would say “sure. You wanna call yourself doctor, go ahead,” even though the degree is not a medical doctorate, nor is it a research doctorate (PhD). But it is wrong.

    • @TheSeniorCenteredPT
      @TheSeniorCenteredPT  2 роки тому +7

      Thank you for your comment and the opportunity to ensure my audience is informed. As a doctor of physical therapy, I am allowed to use the term doctor as I also indicate that I am physical therapist in my title/credentials. A DPT is a clinical doctorate and many people don’t know that earning it requires about 7 years of schooling from undergrad through graduate school. I’ve had numerous clients think it’s a 2 year degree like an associates and it’s more extensive than that. I appreciate the concern for maintaining the respect of the medical community and patient/client understanding. The Senior Centered PT team shares that aim. Thank you!
