Love to see the series coming back, cough traveler cough... The basic idea of carving out a domain is a bit too ordered for me though. I see this more as a few characters on the frontier skipping out from the control of a cruel feudal lord/army deserters/stragglers seeking refuge in the wilderness, building a cabin and a winter store by the cold lake shore, that kind of thing... Setting up a base camp, try to survive, slip back into populated ares for some raiding, find someone who wants to join. Growing more organically. And soon the others came following down the track... guitar solo
I am learning a lot watching you. My first lesson was that the game was always intended to be a wargame, starting at skirmish level and building with the characters. The second is low level characters (players) are meant to be in command of a skirmish unit whose members are made up of henchmen based on that overlooked Charisma score. I may use lighter RPG/ skirmish/ war rules but the DMG will be a main component because it is so complete.
The 200 yard hex is also near perfect for skirmishes of forces the size of those generated by Monster Manual Encounters. Longbow extreme range just outside the 200 yard limit.
very inspiring! i'm reading children of hurin right now. when turin occupies amon rudh with his band of outcasts... this would make a great scenario for what you describe! starting point: when beleg brings with him melian's angelic bread, turin actually gets it and visits thingol and they form an alliance...
WELLlllllllll... 2025 is getting off to an excellent start! You just knew something was brewing when Captain Von Trapp was overheard humming the tune, "The Hills Are Alive", to himself while consulting the available maps & scouting reports of the area! Assemble the Brute Squads! Sound the Trumpets! Beat the Drums! There's Adventure, Promotions, & Plunder by the buckets... for those brave enough to run the risks to establish Civilization in the Wilderness! Raise your glass for the Stone Garden Toast, "Here's to us and those like us! There are few of us left... and most of those are dead!" I am looking forward to the next installment!
Excellent video, looking forward to seeing what you do with this, I ma;y have to start trying this myself, would love to do it with my kid, if he would, but solo if needed. Then see if I can apply it to the my small group.
I am currently of the mindset that ad&d and even acks have an unnecessarily complex domain game that isn’t actually very suitable for the scale mixing they profess to solve for. I am very excited to see you play this out and see how you crack the code and show me what I am missing. Happy new year!
You know, the same people that say "Birthright doesn't have to do this", or "Don't include that in Birthright if you don't want to" are the same people that say the same things about AD&D. I say give it a fair shake for it's own merits and not hold the way others do against it any more than you would AD&D. I'd be really interrested to see you try it out. But I'd still like to see you do Swords & Spells ;)
I am so pleased you have gone back to the D&d solo games. I absolutely loved your previous episodes. The best!
The Wolflands will be civilized!
Battletech is a classic naval wargame wearing a gundam cosplay while adamantly explaining how that doesn't make it a weeb.
Also it's pretty fun.
Welcome back to AD&D! Game on!
I am so glad to start the year with a return to the wolflands.
I’m glad to see this series return. Always fascinating.
Excellent. Excited for this one.
Man... you just made my day. I just finished episode 50 (and listened to the song). The King is back, baby!

I agree. D&D just isn't my cup of tea. Burn that land, and boil the sea, you can't take the stars from me.
Am so glad AD&D is back on here! (maybe at some point Traveller, too!)

So much to catch up on!
Still scratchin my noggin over filing of serial numbers and now you are going full logistics! Keep it up dude.

DMG maximum encounter distance is 24" so outside the 200 yard hex possible but forces will meet in the hex.
Excellent video Jon.
I was having trouble visualising the 200 yard map. This really helps.👍

Brilliant!
0:32 “we aren’t really playing dungeons and dragons”
what are we playing 5e?
As I recall, there is a halfling (or was it gnomes?) village nearby the keep. Might be a limited secondary source for supplies and information.

Thank you for your inspiration. 👍🎲
