Boras declined, he said they want higher amount per year the most. Steve went to 600, The Yankees matched them. Steve went to 51 a year plus a 75 million check upfront. And his family get their own suite in Citifield. Boras gave Yankees a chance to match. And Steinbrenner said no, hes gone as high as hes willing. But came back the next day for 765 for 16 years. And Boras said you are down 51 million, and the Yankees declined to raise or lower the year.
Mets will only go as far as their starting pitching takes them !
Don't forget Donny, Mets tried to get that unicorn last year and were scorned. This year was just not gonna happen again
Ohtani was never signing with NY.
he’s a great player but is anyone worth that amount of loot,it makes you wonder how much these franchises are making 🤔
It’s about the age difference. If Ohtani was 26 when he hit free agency and had Scott Boras as his agent he would have gotten 1 billion dollars.
2:36 in the ALCS against cleveland
ohtani is japanese and the japanese people their character and integrity is second to none. Soto is dominican.....
Money ball in reverse.
I have not seen one person cry about the Mets “buy a ring”. Just goes to show how deep the Dodgers hate is lol
Cause they haven't won. But yeah all the Dodger haters are quiet now cause their #1 go to excuse is gone.
Mets are the Clippers. Sign who you want, still gonna suck
Just when the reserve clause was out of line now the pendulum has swung in the same extreme opposite direction. Same way the MLBPA and Marvin Miller fought their way out of it by striking will be tbe same way the majority of tbe owners will be locking out the players when the curreny CBA expires. Baseball needs a salary cap and a floor as well for it to economically survive in the long run. There needs to be a happy medium.
This contract is so bad lol. But who cares if the owner is willing to shell out the bucks?
Clueless!
Hearing Manny Machado listed with all those great players is hilarious. Why did the Padres give him 350 million? 😂😂. 10 years of Machado swinging at breaking balls in the dirt and hitting soft groundouts.
had the yanks signed his post would've been "What an amazing sign" lol !
I'm a fan. Happy Juan got his bag. Timing was perfect. What mets paid is their problem. When players get treated like commodities, they might as well be for the highest bidder.
The Mets owner wants championships. The money isn’t as important to him as winning.
This is just the beginning.
Lmao
Giving somebody closer to $1 billion to hit and catch a baseball is diabolical.
No it's not.
@@twomorningsbackfromyesterd1240 😭
Soto is OVERPAID , not worth it . Dont know how the METS front office thinks . Baseball is not a ONE Man Army
We wouldn’t have this conversation if he resigned with the Yankees or went to the Dodgers. It’s a question since he signed with the Mets
Nah, if he went to the Dodgers then dodger hate will grow even more but now they can't cause their #1 excuse is gone.
I love this comment page. If the Dodgets had somehow landed Soto,it wouldve been an amazing signing, this makes us a total superteam, yada yada. Same with the Yankees fans. They would be crowing all day long about getting Soto to come back, and screwing over the Mets, etc. But...the Mets did sign him,and automatically the 'is he worth it?' nonsense appears.
Dan you know ohtani is making like 70m a year right 😂 soto is younger so he got a longer contract
Guess Cohen did not hear or read the Mets history about a mlb amazing super uber probably a hall of fame (sarcasm included) guy called Bobby Bonilla 😂
If the Mets are paying the money is because they see something you don’t. Is not just numbers this guy makes everyone around him better
He didn't make Chisholm, Volpe, Grisham, Verdugo or Torres better.
I watched almost every Yankees game last year. He doesn’t make everybody around him better. He’s a great player but he’s not a leader.

His stats, as good as they are, do not compare in any way, shape or form to Judge and it should be noted that many
others have similar stats that the Yankees can go after as a replacement.
Fans will pay any price for a private team that they feel is theirs. Hilarious
Imagine pocket watching someone who makes 1000x more than you. Steve Cohen can lose 75% of his money and still be fine.
He should've signed with the Pirates
Soto has numbers at this age comparable to about 4 other players. All some of the greatest in the history of the game of baseball. Ohtani is better, but Soto ain't chopped liver either.
You’re worth what the free market determines you’re worth.
Ohtani may have the stolen bases but Soto gets the walks. He may be the all time walks leader by the time his contract is over.
What’s the point of walking when you can’t run 😂
Wonder all you want for 15 years. He's a 4 tool Player and any loose ends will be for him to improve defensively as the Mets coaching got his back. Hes a perfect fit clubhouse is mostly hispanic too. But Boris is bad for baseball.
I seriously doubt Ohtani has those numbers if he has to pitch or play right 150+ times in a season.
Even when he was pitching ohtani had better batting numbers than soto. Lol
Do soto has a high school diploma? And what does a Dominican Republican high school diploma really looks like.
