My girlfriend has this console and despite buying her a PS4, she still wants to play with this console because of certain "XBOX-exclusive" games and now I can do what you did for your son with her console.
Thanks man, my original 360 just went down and I bought a used 4gb slim figuring I would just use flash drives. But just like you said some games only let you install to a xbox hard drive. You literally saved me at least $80.00, you're awesome.
while watching your video for almost 17 mins I finally happen to see the little tab that lifts the grill to put my hard drive in my Xbox. then 3 mins later you finally do it. good God man. get to it. not helpful except gave me 20 minutes of looking at my Xbox so that I ended up finding it myself.

Once again thank you, Just bought the original xbox hard drive 60GB for £10.00 and took it apart like in you video, and it has worked like a charm, Installing Battlefield 4 right now, I see your point for getting the caddy for it also, so i am going get one of those in the near future Can`t go wrong for £1.50.
For anyone trying this in 2022 this works if you have a 360 e as well, just pluck the old hard drive from either the FAT model or the or arcade and your good to go!

You could buy the used 250gb hard drive. Or you can buy a new one with the enclosure on Amazon for around $40. They have come down in price since I made the video.

I purchased the official xbox 360 elite 120GB hard drive and the caddy on ebay at a cheap price. It worked!!! Also it can save original xbox games!!! Im able to play original xbox games as well!!! Thank you so much for making this video!!! 👍👍
I have a long and complex backstory in how I ended up here. Wanted to mention several years ago I bought a 2.5" hdd online (pretty sure WD) and found a utility to flash the drive and the 360 DID read it OK. Years later, , and here I am trying to get it going with my "new" 360 S. Thanks for the video - was helpful knowing I just need a drive caddy. Also, Go Blue! :)

I have never heard of a 4GB PS3, I have however heard of a 12GB Super Slim PS3. I would like to see the link where you found the 4GB PS3. 616 PC Repair that's because battlefield is an game made for next gen and really used almost all of the Xbox 360 capabilities and I think an hard drive is essential for makes this game work
I actually bought destiny and a 2TB external hard drive just so I could play it. when it turned on it said I needed a hard drive to play even though I had an external one. I ended up buying an internal hard drive to be able to play it. Thanks for the tutorial.

Wow, I didn't know the that's what it's inside the original Xbox 360 HDD. But I bought a third party 32O GB HDD for the Xbox 360 Slim on Amazon for $40. It's been two years and everything is going fine.

MrJuniorice I agree, using the caddy is the easiest. For those that don't want to spend the few dollars they can do it with out it. I prefer the correct way.

I would say with the amount of games you can buy with updates and expansion it is becoming the point of install 1-2 TB I just wished consoles had the capacity quad hard drives because atleast then you would have the space to store updates, mods and patches to the system...
Jason howe That would be nice, it sure would make it easier. My boy just turned 13 and he just put his first gaming rig together. I love my consoles but gaming on a PC makes it easier to upgrade.
616 PC Repair I suspect they would have make an expansion bay large enough where you had enough air flow to keep drives cool enough and have the capacity to mount 4-8 hard drives in a raid array and have the Xbox one/360/Xbox. Pity Microsoft doesn't do a option where you could mount the Xbox catalogue of games on to the pc and do a operating system shell where you could go from Xbox/360/one/one4k and pc games from the 90's through to today.... have a console option where you have a pc as a host and use the console as a client.. Though I'd love to see the original Xbox come out on a hdmi platform.. Though it still would be actually great to a rack mount option on original hardware specs on all systems. Looking at my console collection Nes>Snes>n64>wii>wiiu, detested the cube son not in my collection Ps1>ps2>ps3>PS4 1TB model, may get the pro 4K at 1 point Xbox>360>one halo, one pro 4K I might get Though until 4K TVs grace my home kinda pointless running 4K anything without the monitors to support it..

I actually own 2 360's now 1st is on rrod, got the slim today.. yup MS is after money and so forth.. though to really enjoy the games on each console platform, you really need a pc port of the console UI.. same with playstation because we always knew how crap the original hardware was lol... to be honest looking at the wii and the wiiu there is not really much difference between the hardware specs my opinion what killed both consoles was lack of games and when compared to xbox/360/ps2/ps3/ps4 it chokes as a console even the n64 was a better console outside of nintendo'd own IP's the consoles were a dead duck as i would expect the switch will be.. I thiink nintendo needs a swift kick up the arse and get somebody in there that can build a level matching system, though I suspect any console they produce will be a junk and throw away console because they havesn't released a console with the hardware to match sony and microsoft and haven't done since the the n64 and this will be the case within the next 5-10 years if they don't do something soon.. i think looking at the specs of the switch I believe it will be a dead duck at launch because it is a pain in the arse to develop for an under powered platform.. don't get me wrong i'm a nintendo fan I i'll still buy the system though my opinion all will be not worth the $65-140 asking price what ever the game will be released on the platform..
on the 4gb slim units you can solder a usb extension cable directly to the motherboard and connect a flash drive or portable usb harddrive for extra storage

You could also just buy a portable hard drive that connects through sub I found it to be a lot easier but then again your method does end up being more convenient
I forgot my account email and password and my Xbox broke long time ago but I kept the hard drive would I still be able to get my account back by putting my hard drive in a new xbox 360 slim ?
I'm not sure that putting your hard drive on a new Xbox 360 will recover your account. I would suggest recovering it, but it my be difficult without the email.
Just picked up a 360 e model real cheap. Thought I was scammed when I saw an empty hdd bay. Looked on eBay for a cartridge and drive, ended up finding an oem 500gb for $30. Thanks for the video, tho

That's The hard drive off an original XBOX 360. You should be able to find heard drives for the slim with the heard drive caddy for cheap now a days. Best of luck

The system files sure take up a lot of space. I only ended up getting like 13ish gigs of space after installing my HD. But only need it for some exclusive arcade titles and such.
because on my case, after the bf4 intro, it says u need to install a hard drive disk. and u ended the video before that, so i kinda got me nervous...lol. But great vid btw!

@@616pcrepair I know this sounds a little weird but... I grew up with insomnia and always had a hard time sleeping. But when I was around 11, (I'm 15 now) I had an Xbox 360 that I wanted to get a hard drive for but didn't know how to do it. I watched this video and it really helped and I was able to play the games I wanted to. But for some reason, this video made me feel really comfortable and tired almost like there was anesthetic in the sound. So when I was younger I actually used to just watch this video over and over to go to sleep, something about your voice and the sound of the hard drive clicking made me feel tired. Then about 2 years ago I found something called ASMR, and I realized I had been watching ASMR before it was really a thing. I know it's a bit weird but your video helped for a completely different purpose than intended so... thank you. :)
Glad that worked for you, are you able to install your game data from any of the games that are mentioned on the comments below? There's an option in your storage settings if you click the flash drive to set it as a internal drive. Would of saved ya alot of time lol

This is why I'd take Sony consoles over Microsoft consoles any day.
We have both and recently added an XBOX One, now for a PS4 to come. I prefer my PS3, for now.

my opinion what killed both consoles was lack of games and when compared to xbox/360/ps2/ps3/ps4 it chokes as a console even the n64 was a better console outside of nintendo'd own IP's the consoles were a dead duck as i would expect the switch will be..
I thiink nintendo needs a swift kick up the arse and get somebody in there that can build a level matching system, though I suspect any console they produce will be a junk and throw away console because they havesn't released a console with the hardware to match sony and microsoft and haven't done since the the n64 and this will be the case within the next 5-10 years if they don't do something soon..
i think looking at the specs of the switch I believe it will be a dead duck at launch because it is a pain in the arse to develop for an under powered platform..
don't get me wrong i'm a nintendo fan I i'll still buy the system though my opinion all will be not worth the $65-140 asking price what ever the game will be released on the platform..

on the 4gb slim units you can solder a usb extension cable directly to the motherboard and connect a flash drive or portable usb harddrive for extra storage

I found it to be a lot easier
but then again your method does end up being more convenient
You don't even need the caddy for the hardrive, I just took apart my fat hard drive and placed it in with a peice

I forgot my account email and password and my Xbox broke long time ago but I kept the hard drive would I still be able to get my account back by putting my hard drive in a new xbox 360 slim ?
I'm not sure that putting your hard drive on a new Xbox 360 will recover your account. I would suggest recovering it, but it my be difficult without the email.
Just picked up a 360 e model real cheap. Thought I was scammed when I saw an empty hdd bay. Looked on eBay for a cartridge and drive, ended up finding an oem 500gb for $30. Thanks for the video, tho

Floods if I remember correctly the new game's data was saved to the hard drive I installed. you can check in the storage settings.

That's The hard drive off an original XBOX 360. You should be able to find heard drives for the slim with the heard drive caddy for cheap now a days. Best of luck

I have a game that requires a hard drive , which I don't have , and it worked! All I did was use a 8 gb flash drive.
You should add to the video title "with one hand" so one handed people can find this video easily. You made me laugh how to get the harddrive out completely with one hand and where to put the middle finger to make it work like that. 😂😂 Btw i think dad likes to play on the xbox too. Enjoy :)

The system files sure take up a lot of space. I only ended up getting like 13ish gigs of space after installing my HD. But only need it for some exclusive arcade titles and such.

@@616pcrepair I know this sounds a little weird but... I grew up with insomnia and always had a hard time sleeping. But when I was around 11, (I'm 15 now) I had an Xbox 360 that I wanted to get a hard drive for but didn't know how to do it. I watched this video and it really helped and I was able to play the games I wanted to. But for some reason, this video made me feel really comfortable and tired almost like there was anesthetic in the sound. So when I was younger I actually used to just watch this video over and over to go to sleep, something about your voice and the sound of the hard drive clicking made me feel tired. Then about 2 years ago I found something called ASMR, and I realized I had been watching ASMR before it was really a thing. I know it's a bit weird but your video helped for a completely different purpose than intended so... thank you. :)

you can use any with the slim i just did it today and i used a 1TB portable HD that is set up just like the thumb drives
