So many great games can only be played on the PS3/Xbox 360, with one of my favorites being the Forza Motorsport franchise, being some of the few that never got backwards compatible support and have a huge following. The Xbox 360E make a lot of sense at the time. While the platform was fading in developed nation markets, there was plenty of business still to be done in more price sensitive regions. So long as die shrinks of the chip set were doable at reasonable cost that allowed for new package designs that in turn allowed for lower MSRP, it was the right thing to do. The history of models released late in a platform's life, most notably from Nintendo and Sony, frequently have major cosmetic differences from the original models, often only be required to conform around the software medium, be it the existing ROM cartridge form factor or optical discs. One notable aspect of the 360E in the US is every time I saw it at retail, it had a 500GB hard drive. This also lead to Microsoft offering the 500GB 360 hard drives as separate items for upgrades. I was hoping they'd get cheap enough to be worth doing to one or both of my 360s without resorting to hacks. We'll never see the equivalent of the 360E for the Xbox One or PS4, or their mid-gen upgrade models, and certainly not the PS5 and Series X/S. The economics of semiconductor have changed in recent years and die shrinks are no longer as accessible as they used to be. AMD has no interest in bring ZEN 2 and RDNA 2 to smaller nodes, making it a VERY expensive proposition for the console makers to pursue it by themselves. This is likely to make for shorter generations as newer architectures are necessary to get any major upgrade to happen. The naming becomes more of a matter of policy and marketing than a reflection of the innards.
I think we will probably see an equivalent of the 360e with the ps5. They've already released the slim, but I think they will release a super slim in like 2026.
There are avatars on Xbox's now, they look different and I like the old ones better, but if the account you have on the 360 and newer Xbox's are the same, you'll be able to use the old avatars.
Good points in general, *but* it is very wrong to say that the 360 has very little security and that it is "easy to hack". Sure, it's gotten easier to do now more than ever (You don't need a modchip anymore but you still need wires and resistors much like the JTAG hack), but it is one of the most complicated exploits of hardware in gaming (Reset Glitch Hack, Timing based attack on bootloader), and to this day Live itself is protected *against modified consoles going online*... Also, the E variant is mostly Winchester motherboard revisions that are *not hackable* because they removed the hardware traces on the CPU for the points used to attack the console during boot. I miss the golden days of the 360, I really do, however it is not just Microsoft's fault, it is that of the game developers/publishers and the paths taken to where we are today. There's a reason so many people are rebuilding the technology of this era and well beyond. Nostalgia will always have a place in everyone's hearts.
This was my second 360 I bought after I sold my original one years back. I still have it and it’s been a great system. Super quiet and it looks pretty slick on a entertainment center.
I picked up the blue 500gb special edition last year. It was the last revision of the 360. It's the only special edition for the 360E. I liked the color so I bought it. Having it come with a 500 gb is a plus. There are still games you can only play on the 360. A bunch of original xbox games that are backwards compatibility on the 360 are not on the Series X.
Agree with the avatar thing man. I still use mine as my Xbox profile now. Not sure why they got rid of them. The 360 platform is one of best of all time. In fact, I’d stay it’s still my favourite. Was such a leap forward from previous generation and the games line was was awesome (still is).
Avatars are still here they never got rid of them. I updated mine on my series x the other day and is visible on my profile. It’s just that for whatever reason they’re not as prominent anymore and Xbox don’t seem to use them as much as they did which is a shame. The 360 dashboard was so good and the layout of it allowed yours and your friends avatars to be displayed front and centre to you which was cool and Xbox even released games that used yours and your friends avatars too as the characters and it’s such a shame that they don’t do that anymore. I would love for the 360 dashboard to come back even, if it’s just as an option to be able to use that dashboard style over the current one in the customisation settings. And I would love to see games like Doritos Crash Course and 1vs100 to come back to help bring avatars back into the spotlight a bit more!
Just bought my Xbox 360 E about 2 months ago. Its just incredible how much more fun old racing games are like OG Burnout 1-3, PGR 1-4 and Forza Motorsport 1-4. Next step is getting the mClassic HDMI Cable for my 65“ 4K
I don’t see why this is so weird. Nintendo did the same thing with the Wii Mini, Game Boy Micro, and New 2DS XL all being cheaper versions coming out after their successors.
Because I got it as a kid in 2015, a year before getting the original Xbox One, I got the 360 E. It was amazing, and I found it to be better than the original 360. It looked great and was very light to hold. Particularly, it was quite nice for playing Forza games, Minecraft, and GTA IV.
I bought the Xbox 360 E Slim in 2014. It came with Halo 4. That game looked incredible, still one of the best looking games on the 360. I agree, the dashboard was so much better. Even on the current gen, in game menus are too cluttered as well. I was playing Black Ops 1 and the online menu/loadout option was so much cleaner than today's COD menus. These developers don't understand that minimalism and simplicity is a good thing. If you can find an Xbox 360 E Slim, pick one up. They are around $100 and are still fun today.
6:03 little correction: 360's are not as easy as it may sound to hack. you have to be goot at soldering + have programmers/flashers to modify the console, and not every 360 can be hacked (360 E with Winchester motherboard)
People didn't buy them mostly because of the Winchester CGPU. Until a video by Josh Davidson(Octal450) showing how to tell which CGPU you had between a Corona or a Winchester. Josh is also one of the main reasons why we have RGH3. From his findings and passing them onto 15432 who then came up with RGH3.
Me and my brother got a xbox 360e for christmas in 2014. That xbox was the thing that started my passion for gaming, me and my brother or me and my friends would play Minecraft on splitscreen, Skate 3 and GTA 4 and 5. 7 years later we still have the consol and the games but we don't use it as much.
I got one of these about a year ago and love it. Been playing games I always wanted to play but couldn’t as a kid because I didn’t have a 360. Games are cheap too, I haven’t payed over $15 for any game.
I bought it, recently as a replacement for my 2010 Xbox that finally gave up in 2023 with the red spot of death. I'm not quite ready to give up playing burnout 3 or the Simpsons hit and run yet.
I’ve been getting your polls recommended to me for months on UA-cam. But this is the first time UA-cam actually recommended a video from you for me lol. Good content. Subbed.
I bought this in 2014 as a bundle with a Kinect and a few games, I recently upgraded to a series x in 2022, but I never had an Xbox account for my 360, so I made one and had to start over with my gamerscore
Just for the record, even GTA 5 was originally released on Xbox 360 (and PS3) - back in September 2013, nine and a half years ago. The Xbox One/PS4 ports came much later.
Hey, are you aware that Xbox still has avatars to this day? Albeit they're definitely not as prevalent as they were back in the 360 days, and they are redesigned, but they still exist :) I wish they were utilised more though, I loved seeing my avatar everywhere back when I used my 360 - and even playing as them in games like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
I own both 360 S and E, from a yard sale for $40. Great consoles to play old games from my childhood. Main console is a series x and a ps5 slim but I don't use the series x so I'm probably gonna sell it for half price.
I own the original Xbox (green and black top)... still works, I went thru 4 of the xbox 360's (3x RRoD)... last 360 I still own and works but is in storage. Than I got this 360 E so I can play all my games and play online. Still works and sits 3 ft away from me. Amazing.
I own a xbox 360 E and i gotta say i had my best memories on that console bec you can basically crack games on it for free and it supported games up to 2018 crack titles and 2017 official titles
The best thing about the old console generation is the fact that you don't have to install every game and can just jump into the heat... miss those days.
I found my Xbox 360 E in a skip with 2 controllers , loads of games including Minecraft , Forza Horizon , Halo 3 and Halo 4. I just got Forza Horizon 2 and an original Xbox 360 steering wheel to go with it. It’s my first console I’ve ever owned and I love it.
1, Xbox 360 E can do 1080p, and has support for upscaling. 2, you need Xbox Live Gold if you want to play online, now it's called Xbox Game Pass Core. 3, no, it's not easy to hack, you must take it apart and solder some wires.
i have the x360E since 2017 and it was used before and it never had a red ring of death + the x360E dashboard was the cleanest and the coolest thing, it has game themed wallpapers
Growing up with the xbox original dashboard and even the 360 blade dashboard, the new dashboards from the one/series are absolute nightmares to me. That along with the newer games turning into content IOUs its pushed me to go back to the 360 and boy howdy theres a lot of games I missed. Xbox can only hobble on the crutch called gamepass for so long before people also get tired of it, I hope they start to innovate again eventually.
I found one in the dumpster without a power supply, so I made my own PSU controller board with a few voltage regulators and a relay, and modded an old PC power supply to make it work. Works great!
I remember getting this for Christmas back in 2014 man times flys well I’m getting another one for this Christmas man I miss those days when I would buy games for it god I’m I was 4 and now I’m 13 and all the games he mentioned I played all of them merry Christmas everyone and god bless you
I have a 360 E, the Slim does look better imo but the E model wasn't as bad as some made it out to be. Had one for about five years and I've been able to play some really great games on it.
This was my first xbox console, bought it when it came out. It was so good, best xbox360. I still have it with my Xbox One S and Series S I like all of them.
I bought the E model when it came out, after my old 360 melted when playing gta 5. I still use it almost daily. Definitely one of the best consoles of all time.
Pulled out my Xbox 360 E and honestly besides the 30fps the only complaint I have is the resolution output. On modern monitors and TV's that 720p upscaling is very noticeable, making games look worse. Still, it's a fun nostalgia trip.
When getting a 360 E and would like to mod it, better not get the ones with the Winchester revision boards (Any Xbox 360 E manufactured starting August 2014) as these have the fixes for the RGH implemented (and no, even to this day there's no way to softmod any Xbox 360. You still need a modchip for the RGH).
@@dnegel9546 modding-wise, 360E is fine as long as it's not a Winchester revision (August 2014 and newer). There's no softmod for the Xbox 360 just yet (Microsoft's implementation of the Hypervisor is a tough nut to crack). If you see any video that a Winchester hack exists, that's a big con! If you don't care about modding, then this is totally fine!
@@MrChezco1995 any upgrades i can do to a slim model? i honestly prefer the matte black slim i think its alot better looking. but any info on modding it? like fans for cooler temps and ssd + anything else?
I found mine with a 250gb hard drive in it for $15 at Goodwill over a year ago. It didn't have the power supply brick and plug in cords but $10 on eBay for one so got my Xbox 360 E for only $25 or around $30 after tax. Works perfectly fine but so far I only played GTA V all the way through the story on the 360 E. Scratches were able to be removed with some plastic scratch remover but not completely. Looks fine though but I just got it because of it's price and to add to collection. I already had the Xbox 360 S I bought back in 2018 and the fat Jasper chipset model I got in 2019. I use my Xbox One X and my Series S but not every 360 game is backwards compatible.
❗I'm sorry but your are totally wrong when you're saying that's it's easy to mod. Xbox 360 requires specific tools and programs + Soldering to hack. No soft mods exists.
People say lack of vision for Xbox one, however many of things they tried to implement has basically arrived, a digital library of games, voice assistants like Alexa and Google, face recognition cameras , the always online thing, which people are now just realising has almost come to pass, there Xbox one vision has basically happened, they are just not great at selling there stuff, such as the Kinect they didn’t know how to sell, even though the tech was very interesting, which you can now find in many different things.
I had a 360 E, it had worse anti-aliasing than the 360 S I had before it for some reason. I'm sure it was a hardware issue, but regardless I still prefer the S model.
Yes all 360 models/revisions are backwards compatible with over 300 original xbox titles You just have to make sure to have the BC update and an authentic Microsoft hard drive
Xbox ones tv mode is kinda cool tbh it gives you an hdmi passthrough so it technically doesn't take up an hdmi slot on the tv since you can actually plug another console into the xbox one Also fun fact I got a 360 after the one was out cause I still wanted the 360 and I got this E version
You know, they revamped the Avatars on the newer Xbox consoles also. I just wish you unlocked stuff for them like you did on the 360 Edit: RDR looks better on the 360 in my opinion, almost like there is a thin layer of dust constantly in the air like there tends to be in the desert
Plus there were no games for the Xbox one at launch for a few years so that 360 was honestly the way to go until a price drop or a slim version came out and honestly if you’re a retro gamer it’s still a good option if you want to play on a 360 instead of the emulator on the one or series consoles

The 360 is one of the best consoles ever
I have never owned a Xbox and never will I have a computer for that and as always a playstation but this system was a game changer for online and online marketplace because that was the first time Sony knew they fucked up with online for my boy Sony, for them it was a afterthought not built around the experience like the 360 I'm a Sony loyalist but weekends at my cousin's playing halo 1 2 3 odst and reach was my teen years, left for dead, gears my god good times, because the PS4 online chats and groups feel like 360 era, if the PS3s online was the same Sony would have won again but I'm glad because online gaming would be shitty as a whole if not for Xbox so thanks Microsoft....-a playstation loyalist who is still salty about the cods maps coming out way after the xbox's during this battle.......

There are avatars on Xbox's now, they look different and I like the old ones better, but if the account you have on the 360 and newer Xbox's are the same, you'll be able to use the old avatars.
the xbox one avatars have been out since like 2015, i don't know where people are getting this, oh now they have them, they have been out 7 years now.
How does this work?
This was my second 360 I bought after I sold my original one years back. I still have it and it’s been a great system. Super quiet and it looks pretty slick on a entertainment center.
I picked up the blue 500gb special edition last year. It was the last revision of the 360. It's the only special edition for the 360E. I liked the color so I bought it. Having it come with a 500 gb is a plus. There are still games you can only play on the 360. A bunch of original xbox games that are backwards compatibility on the 360 are not on the Series X.
3:00 duude what game is that? Looks awesome!
Nice video btw, Ben! Love your content!
gta 4? :0
@@littlegloom Never played it hahah, skipped from Vice City straight up to V. Thanks.
Still have two 360 E consoles, bought both on a Black Friday deal in 2014, both still go strong, I never upgraded to the One ...
Just bought an elite for 10 bucks!😂 Works fine!
@@GT-pl1wx Damn! Great deal! Have fun haha.

little correction:
360's are not as easy as it may sound to hack.
you have to be goot at soldering + have programmers/flashers to modify the console, and not every 360 can be hacked (360 E with Winchester motherboard)
other than that, great video!
Thus is the console I own to this day. I remember playing Spiderman WOS, TASM 1 and 2, Halo 3 and I still play them to this day.
People didn't buy them mostly because of the Winchester CGPU. Until a video by Josh Davidson(Octal450) showing how to tell which CGPU you had between a Corona or a Winchester. Josh is also one of the main reasons why we have RGH3. From his findings and passing them onto 15432 who then came up with RGH3.
what are you talking about ???

Me and my brother got a xbox 360e for christmas in 2014. That xbox was the thing that started my passion for gaming, me and my brother or me and my friends would play Minecraft on splitscreen, Skate 3 and GTA 4 and 5. 7 years later we still have the consol and the games but we don't use it as much.
I have this one and my Slim that my parents got me as a graduation present in eighth grade. Both are amazing.
Subbed.
The 360E was my first console and I loved it.
Awesome video! I totally agree with what you said about the new Star Wars game compared to the old one.
I bought this in 2014 as a bundle with a Kinect and a few games, I recently upgraded to a series x in 2022, but I never had an Xbox account for my 360, so I made one and had to start over with my gamerscore
I actually own one. After my original 360 died from its 2nd RROD, bought this model brand new in the store. Still works like a champ
You've nailed it again Ben! I really like your videos. 👏
Just for the record, even GTA 5 was originally released on Xbox 360 (and PS3) - back in September 2013, nine and a half years ago. The Xbox One/PS4 ports came much later.
They came out on XBone and PS4 only a year later in 2014
It however didn't hit S/X and PS5 till just last year
Hey, are you aware that Xbox still has avatars to this day? Albeit they're definitely not as prevalent as they were back in the 360 days, and they are redesigned, but they still exist :)
I wish they were utilised more though, I loved seeing my avatar everywhere back when I used my 360 - and even playing as them in games like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
They're super ugly too
Thank you I was thinking that too. My aviator is riding a unicorn. It’s also my gamer tag.
Amazing.
So this is the model that Don Mattrick referred to when he said that anyone who can't have his Xbox online 24/7 should just buy a 360...
2:46 yes it had HDMI but from my experience the HDMI only gave me sound not sound and picture unlike the back AV port
I got 1 of those. It's in a storage box..... somewhere. Need to throw that on ebay. Thanks for the reminder.
I own a xbox 360 E and i gotta say i had my best memories on that console bec you can basically crack games on it for free and it supported games up to 2018 crack titles and 2017 official titles
I wonder if you couldn’t lightly buff out those scratches?
3:19 People who used this dashboard back in the day know that there used to be ads plastered all over the dashboard, regardless of the tab
I have two 360 E and one 360 S, 180 games and I'm still happy. One 360 E and one 360 S i gave to one my friends. He is happy like a little child.
That was my first xbox was the Xbox 360 elite. It still runs great. No problems no issues. I play forza Motorsport 4 on it regularly.
this was my first ever console. got them christmas 2014 along with fifa 15, and i still own that consol, even if it‘s dead
I did. Brand new at a Wal-Mart in 2016. I prefer the S model over this E.
I bought it and it was Great! With the exception of trash black piano that scratches like crazy in 1 week.
I actually just bought one of these about a week ago for 40 dollars and it is a very good and well built console
I’m still sad that the Xbox series consoles got rid of the video pass through features of the Xbox one. Underrated feature.
Got one brand new in 2014 for 70 bucks no hdd at sams club and the disk tray just went bananas today
I found one in the dumpster without a power supply, so I made my own PSU controller board with a few voltage regulators and a relay, and modded an old PC power supply to make it work. Works great!
I had this version of the 360 and got a ton of use out of it. I grinded through Forza Motorsport 3 and 4 and the first Forza Horizon.

I have a series x and now I want a 360 Elite 😆. I STILL play NCAA football 14!
Buy a 360 slim. It's better than elite
My first was the 369E I love it so much

I have a 360 E, the Slim does look better imo but the E model wasn't as bad as some made it out to be. Had one for about five years and I've been able to play some really great games on it.
I have my 360 E it’s honestly an amazing console that deserves more recognition and respect
My first console was the xbox 360 E and its the best console i ever used
I bought this back in 2013 and it's the only xbox 360 that didn't shit out on me after two years. It still works fine
3:15 the 360 does have ads, when you have a gold subscription, but not as heavy compared to the Xbox one
I have an E model with Winchester chip and will not power on at all even after applying thermal paste. Any tips?
This was my first xbox console, bought it when it came out. It was so good, best xbox360.
I still have it with my Xbox One S and Series S
I like all of them.
You still need a modchip for the RGH).
so dont buy a 360E?
@@dnegel9546 modding-wise, 360E is fine as long as it's not a Winchester revision (August 2014 and newer). There's no softmod for the Xbox 360 just yet (Microsoft's implementation of the Hypervisor is a tough nut to crack). If you see any video that a Winchester hack exists, that's a big con!
If you don't care about modding, then this is totally fine!

I bought a modded 360e last week and I absolutely love it
This Xbox 360 is the best version! Most reliable and quiet and I personally love the feel!
Bro these vids are quality 👌 keep it up!
What’s the diff between the normal one and the E version
I had a 360 E, it had worse anti-aliasing than the 360 S I had before it for some reason.
I'm sure it was a hardware issue, but regardless I still prefer the S model.
So is the 360 E backwards compatible with xbox original games or not?
Yes all 360 models/revisions are backwards compatible with over 300 original xbox titles
You just have to make sure to have the BC update and an authentic Microsoft hard drive
I had a Special edition of the e. It was Vibrant Blue with 500gb. Loved it then sold it for an Nvidia Shield Tablet.
I got one of these a year ago. I remember seeing them when they first came out. I've had the slim as well since Christmas 2012

wow, i was deciding to sell my xbox 360 e after buying a new series s, but now i think ill preserve it
I got a 360 S a few years ago and I didn’t even realize until very recently that there was an ‘E’ version as well 🤣
Love the 360 man that thing was awesome! I’m actually trying to buy up old 360 games
Xbox ones tv mode is kinda cool tbh it gives you an hdmi passthrough so it technically doesn't take up an hdmi slot on the tv since you can actually plug another console into the xbox one
Also fun fact I got a 360 after the one was out cause I still wanted the 360 and I got this E version
You know, they revamped the Avatars on the newer Xbox consoles also. I just wish you unlocked stuff for them like you did on the 360
Edit: RDR looks better on the 360 in my opinion, almost like there is a thin layer of dust constantly in the air like there tends to be in the desert
I have a PS5, series X and a steam deck but I still play my 360 E sometimes
Long time seen I have Been on this channel actually love you video keep up the great videos
Plus there were no games for the Xbox one at launch for a few years so that 360 was honestly the way to go until a price drop or a slim version came out and honestly if you’re a retro gamer it’s still a good option if you want to play on a 360 instead of the emulator on the one or series consoles
