- No hot water? Is the status light on your water heater not blinking? Honeywell gas valves are notorious for shutting down your water heater due to high water temperatures. This video shows you how to reset a Honeywell gas valve that has thrown a code 4, high temperature shutdown code. To find out if your water heater has shut down due to high temperature, you need to re-light the pilot and watch the status light and simply count the number of blinks. If it blinks 4 times, this is the issue and this video will show you how to reset the gas valve and solve the problem!
I am new to this type of control valve. Gas had been turned off in the house and they could not get the water heater to light. Your video was what I needed to get it to light. Thank you very much...

@@DannyH-t8h I’d say you’re back in business! Did you hear the burner ignite?
The water heater shut off about two days ago while I was out of town. Found your Video and now the kids and I can take hot baths once again!!! Thank you so much!!

Thanks for the tips I got my water heater back on track
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!! Fixed my issue so l got afew questions? Is this something to indicate failure? Just out of warranty purchased 4/24/2018. Also been curious for awhile so what powers the blinking LED light?? A battery? Replacement needed? Lifespan if a battery?
I don’t think it indicates a mechanical issue, however, I’m not an expert on water heaters. The blinking light is powered by the thermopile that is located near the pilot light. Once it’s heated by the pilot light, it converts that heat to electricity. Thanks for commenting!
Thank you so much for this video!!! You saved me from probably spending a few hundred dollars on a repair person!!!!
You’re welcome!
This video really helped me out a lot! Thanks
You’re welcome!
Hi Stephen thanks for the vid it helped alot. I noticed i had 9 blinks... its a chamber sensor warning, do you know what that means? I did the reset and it returned to blue and reignited. I am just curious as to what it is that messed up. I got mine in 2022 october.
@@rvalle11 I think that means the sensor is going bad and needs replaced. I have never encountered this issue, but I would think that your water heater should still be under warranty. I would call customer service and ask them what you should do. Thanks for commenting!
This is awesome! Thank you it worked.

My heater can show red or blue indicator lights. I was able to re-light the pilot using your instructions and then the light flashed blue, once every second or so. I assume this means everything is OK?
@@paulajenkins6978 Is your gas valve a Honeywell?
@@DiyGuy50 Yes, it's Honeywell. Similar to yours except the status light can flash red or blue. The info card says flashing blue means normal.
@@paulajenkins6978 👍
You're supposed to look in the sight glass for the pilot to light. Once lit you don't need to hit the ignitor anymore. You continue to hold the pilot button down until the light starts to flash. Once it's flashing that means the thermocouple is warmed and the burner is ready to light.
@@joebojanic1905 That is correct. I heard the pilot light after the first press of the igniter. But, if you release the control button prematurely, the pilot goes out because the thermocouple hasn’t got hot. Thanks for sharing.
What’s it mean if I can light the pilot light, pilot light stays on till I remove finger from pilot light knob and the blinking light never comes on? Ty!
I’m not an expert on this but it may be that the thermopile or thermocouple is bad. Have you tried holding the pilot button for 30 seconds after the pilot lights?
Thanks🎉
I did all that and in the last step when you turned it to hot, it clicks but the flame stays the same and does not increase. It is a new unit. Any ideas what the issue is?
@@mariogallardomusic I’m sorry I don’t. If the burner doesn’t light there’s something else wrong. It should be under warranty so I would call the place you purchased it from.
After waiting for 10seconds, I pressed the pilot button in and had to click the ignition button every second for 30 seconds until the light started to flick and then I turned to “hot” and it reset
@@CougarsSaluki Yes. Sometimes you have to keep hitting the igniter until it lights. I got lucky and the pilot lit on the first click. You did it correctly! Good job!
What if the status light doesnt come on even tho i cant get the pilot light lit, doesnt stay lit because the status light doesnt come on...
@@KazzamGameHaven The status light won’t come on until the pilot lights. If you’re following the directions on your gas valve to re-light the pilot and it doesn’t light, you need to call a professional.
@@DiyGuy50 I ended up getting mine lit. Under the panel cover you take off to see if the pilot light is lit to the right theres 2 wires. I disconnected both of those and plugged them back in. Water heater started right up no problems after that!
@@KazzamGameHaven Thats great! Thanks for letting me know!
Both my neighbor and I did this and the status light is still not coming on.
@@loeserlegal Are you continuously pushing the igniter while depressing the control button and is your control button on pilot?
I smell gas when I do it.
@@blissfullycoiled1114 when you press the control button it releases gas and pressing the ignitor repeatedly should light the pilot. If it doesn’t, turn the control to off and call an expert.
