This is the first video in my little series on doing a DSG Swap in a MK4 1.8T Wagon! Hopefully this is something you guys can find useful aswell as maybe even abit entertaining!
No that would not work because the diff/axles would be facing the wrong way not sure if you would be able to swap a newer a4/s4 drivetrain with longitudinal gearbox tho😎👍
@@luisdomingues2237 i have No idea on the longitudinal way sadly, you could check if the engine with dsg501 has the same bolt pattern as the 1.8t and if it sits in your car body, that would take you most of the way!
Awesome project, subbed! Would like to do the same with my Seat Ibiza (PQ24 chassis) too, together with a 1.8T swap (currently 1.9 TDI). Looking forward to the future videos!
Awesome man! Hopefully it comes together nicely and somewhat Well documented for people to follow and learn! Its definately one of the biggest projects ive had haha
Greetings, was it positive to change from manual transmission to DSG? On the one hand, I have heard that DSG transmissions cause a lot of problems and are very expensive to repair, what was your experience like? In the end did you get the desired results?
Good question! It mostly worked out like I hoped but there are some querks still! The good: more gears, longer gears fast shifting and shoots flames, can drive in D and in “manual” if I want to. Bad: long gears, shifting/roll away isn’t quite like stock probably need to calibrate the clutch as that hasn’t been done and I’m using ECUMaster that can be a factor, no launch control yet but should be possible haven’t found a solution to that yet. Mostly it’s very positive and very happy with it! I will have to drive it this summer to see reliability but the stock 5speed can blow at as low as 300hp and the dq250 can handle like 800+ with upgraded clutch pack so we will see how that works! And when I’ve driven it a bit more I actually should make a video about the pros and cons, but if I were to change anything now it would probably be a tsi gearbox instead of tdi as they are super long and at low rpm I got 0 tourqe 😂 OR a new turbo with earlier spool 👍 then as I said I want to du a clutch calibration on it as well otherwise super happy with it for now!🙏🏻
I've done this project. works great. only problem that I have is the drive shaft. It breaks all the time. Audi A3 8L is a little smaller than a golf 4. Tried S3 8l subframe still have the same problem. Hopefully you can find out yourself which driveshaft suits the best. If you know, let me know. Everything is plug and play. I recommend to use a dsg vr6 audi tt engine mount for the dsg, the weight is a problem for this car tbh, you can feel the weight of the car being heavier. Also use an audi tt 3.2 vr6 dsg steering wheel hose. The older one won't fit well.
@@RedBaronGarage dogbone is plug and play aswell. You can easily use it but it's not strong. You should get a stiffer one. I think 034motorsport sell those. Its up to you.
Really awesome man 🙏🏻 whereabout did you splice in the high and low can cables? Ive heard some 30cm from the ebs unit aswell as the cluster, and how did you get reverse signal from the dsg?
@@RedBaronGarage The splice in the can cables take in mind that having esp in your abs unit is going to make life easier but skyways m it doesn't matter how far from he abs unit it js as long as it is on that bus i haven't got reverse signal yet but if you are good at fabricating you could make a flange and weld the 02m/02j reverse sender into the place on the box where to shift linkeage js
@@ynnnc Well im not completely sure how the indicator diodes work with the shifter, pushing a relay could be to much for the internal circuits but as i Said im not sure haha. I read that you could program a output on the mechatronic BUT i saw when i looked in the ecumaster sofware that i can get signal from there so thats what i Will do😎
@@coucouj2781 yes ofcourse! Fin fact the r32 and tt actually came with dsg tho very rare! One thing you Will have to look after is the bellhousing because the vr6 has a different boltpattern than tdi/tsi but other than that the 4motion fits on aswell 👌 and power wise the clutch on these start slipping at like 550nm ~500+hp wich is crazy and if you upgrade the clutchpack they hold everything you throw at them basicly
hi I installed DQ250 on my 1.8t AGU engine vehicle. It does not communicate with the ECU. Do I need to replace the ECU? Can I provide a solution with programming? I provided CAN-H CAN -L connections with external gateway.
Since its agu platform i guess you have the old ME ecu and not the new ME 7.5? Im not sure if they can comunicate if that is the case. Can you read with obd11 or Vagcom? If you run oem ecu you also need to program it to automatic ecu! Home some of this helps 🙏🏻

I have a Passat B5 1.8T Longitudinal Engine in Brazil, do you think I can get a converter for dsg? because it is longitudinal?
No that would not work because the diff/axles would be facing the wrong way not sure if you would be able to swap a newer a4/s4 drivetrain with longitudinal gearbox tho😎👍

I’m using stock pistons without spacer! So should be 10,5 or whatever it is stock 😎👌
Hi' do you have a wiring diagrom or a drawing of which wires go? where and what driveshaft do you use>> thanks mark
Yeah i do, almost Done with full video on all the info you need!
How can I make the DSG switch in the same way with me 7.5? My throttle is closing!(
Physically its the same! I know you need to tune the ecu to automatic and it should work nicely however i dont have much more inför on that..
what is cost of this process to make 1.8t with dq250 gearbox?
Ive actually not counted really but depending in where you find parts under 1000$~ fairly easy
Does the a3 8p shifter work is that the shorter version?
Not sure wich version is in that, see if you can find a picture of it as they are very different looking 👍
