Trying to fix the wiring for the DSG and getting organized in the garage!
I am fitting a PQ500 to a T5 transporter with a 150 pd. I am looking for a solution to control the megatronics/ dsg I think I would need a standard alone ecu? Any help is appreciated
That sounds like a cool project! Didn’t the t5 come with dsg from factory you can use? Do you mean dq500?
really appreciate the great information. getting ready to do a dsg swap on a 2.5 mk5 jetta.
No problem! Sounds like a sweet project!
Hello, can you help me with that little shiftter code? Tnx🫡
Sorry i dont know the number on them or if there are different numbers on other models all i know is the look of them are distinctly different
looks amazing
Thanks alot!
Dsg from what car?
From a Skoda superb 2.0tdi👍
Why ruin the car 😂 save the manuals
I mean as a car guy I really agree with you but also as a vw enthusiast dsg is better in every way exept “driving feel” but I got manual mode and that’s almost just as good😂🙏🏻
Any tips for swapping with an o1m?
All i can think of is there seems to be an issue with swapping 09a boxes and using same wires from old auto to new auto. So probably run new wires as i described if the old can wires dont work properly👍
Is the 09a transmission wiring Similar to dq250 transmission
I actually dont know what wiring the 09a has. The dsg has a T20 connector thats round tho
Great videos mate, watched all of them now, still a little confused about wiring for the brake and reverse, don’t know if over thinking it or what, but keep imagining it not being able to stop 😂 … keep putting it off as don’t want to fudge it up 😂 i’ve taken my engine out now, fitted gearbox, just going to touch up the engine bay a bit then hopefully fit it for good then do the wiring but hoping to do that in a day or 2
Aah no worries it signals via can haha, and depending on if you have the big or small ABS system it works abit differently but it still works👍 unless you have the old can system then it doesnt work with the ecu at all
Oh what was the actual issue stopping it from running? Looked for the explainer video but couldn’t find it
I did an oopsie and put constant 12v to all + instead of ignition to 1 of them because i wanted to make sure it worked before wiring it properly. The problem was the dsg never turned off when I turned off the car making it loose connection with all other ecus locking up the mechatronic😂 with ignition wired in properly it worked immediately 👍
@@RedBaronGarage ah don’t suppose you remember the pins you used for constant and switched? Oh and what did you do for the brake/reverse and clutch master cylinder wiring? Oh off topic but has a uk car got to be converted to lhd if imported to Sweden? I’m in the middle of my transporter vr6 build now, and thinking to prepare it for lhd if it has to be for import… the missus auntie lives in stockholm and we went to visit her a few weeks ago and now we’re planning to move, vans my pride and joy so it’s got to come with me 😂 would rather keep it rhd though to save the work but tbh nows a good time to do it, engines in, got it running but it has a smf and race clutch and it’s going to do my head in with the smf chatter so think I’m going to just fit the dsg, just unsure what to do with the wiring side
@@GaryTaylorvw yeah that should not be an issue there are alot of rhd imports here! (my brothers evo for example haha) pin 13 is constant 12v and also one other had 12v on my donor dsg contact but not sure if neccesary, and pin 11 is ignition 12v. just google T20 DSG connector and there are some pictures of wich pins it is as it is very hard to read pin number on the connector :D
Hi what do you do about the clutch master cylinder wiring, just disconnect and tape it up?, don’t suppose you’ve got a dummies wiring diagram have you ?, seen the Pinouts from your other video but still a bit confused with it, what about reverse light, brake light, pdnr ? "That other plug on the shifter" Also aren’t you using paddle shifters?
No paddles sadly(yet) I have a complete video where I talk about everything in detail check it out and leave a comment if it’s still confusing! 😁
Have a problem, the speedo is now jumping and not staying constant when wiring the old signal wire to the ecu. Any help?
Are you running ECUMaster aswell?
@RedBaronGarage no I'm running a Maxxecu Sport
@@JonathanHopkins-kx1ld what method are you useing in maxxecu then? can you take speed via can and convert to a vss signal?
@RedBaronGarage managed to get it to work, used the wire from the gearbox speed sensor and the one from the wheel speed sensor.
Nice man 👌
Does the a3 8p shifter work is that the shorter version?
Not sure wich version is in that, see if you can find a picture of it as they are very different looking 👍
I‘m currently swapping a dq200 for the dq250, but after connecting CAN high and low as well as power, ground and ignition. The module is not able to communicate with vcds, while all other modules work. Any ideas?
No that sounds odd, is it connected in the same spot? What year are the gearboxes?
@@RedBaronGarage it's from an Audi TT 8J OE: 02E 301 107 AH AK S the year I don't know. I have an Audi A3 8V 1.8TFSI from 2014. So the DQ200 has an immobilizer. Maybe the mechatronics is broken...
that sounds odd, it could be that the a3 is too new it doesnt have the old ME7.5 can system as far as i know atleast so maybe the dsg doesnt understand the can line.
@@RedBaronGarage I am afraid thats the case. I send the mechatronics unit to a shop and they will diagnose it and update the firmware if needed
@@Tycho-jm2zy hopefully that is the issue🙏🏻
Amazing
Thanks! 🙏🏻
do you run the maxspeedingrod gt28 turbo? and if you do, how long did it already survive?
Yeah it is, the old variant before ”standard” and ”street” version, not sure on km but had it on and tuned at 360 for ~3 years but it’s singing its last song right now😂 not sure if it’s because bad quality or because i removed the dump valve lol
i think the turbo is not so good quality hahaha. i have the same one my old/spare 1.8t engine because the stock turbo was broken. i only gone use that engine and turbo for putting a volkswagen caddy on registration with 1.8t engine. after that i swap in my forged 1.8t engine. but best thing to do for you if the turbo goes broken is buy a original garret gtx2871 gen2 turbo or a g25-550. spool time is wayyyy better than the maxspeedingrod turbo. i think you have 1bar boost before 3500rpm with the garrett ones, and it goes easy over 450hp. but watchout with youre stock connectingrods.
@@rkstuntz5278yeah thats definately the plan! Looking at a g25-550 atm and as you say spool Will be alot better and thats going to help alot with the long gears haha. This turbo has 0 spool until like 3k rpm😂
when you see 1bar with the maxspeedingrods turbo? with the g25 you have to run a forged/build engine (pistons, rods, bearings, exhaustvalves, arpbolts), or do you have it already?
if you are smart you slam in some (AGN, ADR) 1.8 20v non turbo cams. you can feel the differents.
Greetings, was it positive to change from manual transmission to DSG? On the one hand, I have heard that DSG transmissions cause a lot of problems and are very expensive to repair, what was your experience like? In the end did you get the desired results?
Good question! It mostly worked out like I hoped but there are some querks still! The good: more gears, longer gears fast shifting and shoots flames, can drive in D and in “manual” if I want to. Bad: long gears, shifting/roll away isn’t quite like stock probably need to calibrate the clutch as that hasn’t been done and I’m using ECUMaster that can be a factor, no launch control yet but should be possible haven’t found a solution to that yet. Mostly it’s very positive and very happy with it! I will have to drive it this summer to see reliability but the stock 5speed can blow at as low as 300hp and the dq250 can handle like 800+ with upgraded clutch pack so we will see how that works! And when I’ve driven it a bit more I actually should make a video about the pros and cons, but if I were to change anything now it would probably be a tsi gearbox instead of tdi as they are super long and at low rpm I got 0 tourqe 😂 OR a new turbo with earlier spool 👍 then as I said I want to du a clutch calibration on it as well otherwise super happy with it for now!🙏🏻

Hey man I was wondering if you know if I could use the DQ500 from the Tiguan 4 motion I looked at the 500 next to the DQ250 and they look literally identical
Hey! If you are also running 4motion probably as the diff should be the same but if you are 2wd dont think so as housing is different on the diff. Also i think there are both ”old” dq500 and ”new” for the mqb platform and im not sure they work with stock ecu
@@RedBaronGarage okay do possible know if code HQN trans would work ? If from a 2009 brm diesel Jetta , and if yes is the DSG tuning doable via remote tuning or has to be done in person?
@@boosttapperformance8673 i cant confirm if it does work all ive read is that it needs to be 02E not sure about the others sorry🙏🏻 remote tuning i dont know either id think it needs to be connected to work👍
@@RedBaronGarage okay thanks for your response
Can you drop the link where you bought the axels?
Sadly no i found them on eBay but they are gone now….
@@RedBaronGarage I have one more question. I already bought the DSG but i don't have the "big ABS System' Wil the swap still work? And who do I have to do to work around that problem? Thanks in advance. Love the info and the show.
ECS has aftermarket and OEM options, part numbers should be 1J0407271NH and 1J0407272MJ
@@Schumeyyy thanks! Really appreciate it
Hi mate at you using forged pistons or head spacer? I’m supercharging mine but not sure which compression to go for
I’m using stock pistons without spacer! So should be 10,5 or whatever it is stock 😎👌
Bro, can i copy this to a 1.9tdi??
I would think so since the bellhousing is the same! Only thing I’m not certain of is how ecu should be tuned but I assume oem ecu would be the same!
Hello, greetings, do you know which DSG transmission I can use in my GTI Mk4 2001 1.8t to make it AWD.
The dq250 with transfer case from 4motion! Can’t be fwd dsg🙏🏻
I have a 5 speed in my b6 would a 6 speed handle more power? I have done 0 research. I don’t even know if I can swap a 6 speed in it. Thank you for any replies
Not sure on the passat platform, as they are longitudinally mounted and not transverse. But on transverse its true the 6 speed is stronger 👍 (Edit b6 passats are transverse but audis are longitudinal still!)
Crazy car

Awesome to hear man! Soon we Will go to all the meets and cruises!
What is gearbox code ?
Not sure exactly but it is a 02E dq250 from a tdi!
@@RedBaronGarage i though that there is a diffrence between diesel and petrol gearbox
Yes the gearing is different, much longer gears on tdi box 👌
Hi there i want to do this dsg on a mk1. I am guessing that most of what you have given is the same? I am also goong to use ecu master black. One thing most guys in my country are struggling with is the gear changes, they saying that it will only change if u change manually. Do you know if there is a module or something we missing to get the auto changes to work?
As far as i know the gearbox decides when to change gears and it has internal speed and rpm for engine so not sure why it would not work…are they running with can aswell or completely separate from eachother?
@@RedBaronGarage its in a mk1 so i am assuming they not using the can. When i do mine i will have to revisit this video to see what needs to be done. Im doing 2.0 16v abf, i want to use the dq250 (i hope it fits). I’m going to have to get my list ready and make sure i have everything. I have ecumaster black so im going to need more parts than you did i think
@@robertg5754 yeah so you are not doing 1.8t swap then, maybe you can see if 2.0 has same boltpattern as 1.8t, if you can switch gearboxes between this there shouldnt be an issue, i saw someone that installed a ABS unit just to get can signal between ecus to make it work with dsg but not sure wich one, as dsg would need ABS signal etc
@@RedBaronGarage I know the guys from Bobas (i hope i spelt it right) do 16v DSG conversions. I am going to have to research but i think it must be very similar to what you have done. Fun times ahead. I am hoping to maybe film as much as i can and maybe post it on a YT channel.
@@robertg5754 it probably is yes, like this via can or running the dsg "standalone". Best of luck to you my friend!
Nice one bro 👍
Thanks man!
Which dsg for 24v vr6
You would need the dsg from a vr6, r32 or a3 vs for example 👍
how did you get to Mexico so fast?
I took the bridge from malmoe 🫡 in fact its one of the largest underwater bridges in the world
Nice video, also want to give a tip. If you have the wrong abs, the wrong speed will be send. First gear will be very long and then limb mode from dq250. Just unplug abs and it will run fine. After that you can swap to abs mk60. Also service the box and vcds to calibrate the clutch and gears.
Thanks alot for the info! Why would it throw limp? I am simulating esp via ecumaster to that is not an issue ive ran into. Would it be because ABS calculated speed doesnt match with dsg calculated speed?
very informative video. Nice!
Thanks man🙏🏻
I still have my oem ecu and coded my cluster it's in km but it works. Good info for people who are running standalone. I'm still trying to make my cruise control and launch control work with the OEM ecu.
Thats nice to hear did you eeprom code then? Now sure how the Cruise control buttons work yet either😂 but if you run oem ecu should they not still work?
Your exh needs to be auto and have dsh trans file on it for cruise to work. When I had the manual ECU in mine cruise was glitchy. With the auto ECU it works after I coded the Speedo to work via can. I haven't had a chance to put the dsg trans file on it yet so cruise control only works in 1st -,5fh. It doesn't work in 6th due to tiptronic only being a 5 speed and that's the currently selected trans file.
@@RedBaronGarage yeah it is coded my car was an original 5 speed auto I think Its a one wire issue i have to work out. Will update when I have it working
@@EuroWabbitthe problem with mine was the auto from factory I think I'm missing the power to the ecu for cruise I have it on the brake switch wire right now and I think that's why it's not working
Interesting info thanks!
Have you figured out anything with reverse lights yet? That's all I have left on mine and I'd rather not do a micro switch on the shifter.
Well kinda, i havnt fixed it because its not required in sweden but you have reverse output in dsg setting in ecumaster! You can take that output to the reverse relay under the steeringwheel to make it work, and im about 50% certain you get reverse output from dsg t20 connector aswell but im not sure if you need to code that in the dsg or if its like that oem. Check the forumthread in description of ”ultimate dsg swap guide” if you can find it!
@@RedBaronGarage for you it will probably be as simple as the speed output was. I know there is a reverse output via can from the trans. I tried a can sniffer and it didn't do anything. May try it again as I had an issue at the time I didn't know about. On mk5 the bcm outputs reverse as it gets it from the trans via can.
Yeah Well you got the gear selector position via can so it should definately be possible!👍

@@Meucitroenlasanha Best of luck my friend!
i did this to my 2012 Mazda2. Great little car but basic af. Only reason why i did this project was because I ended up with a $150 amazon gift card and said why not. The cabin noise was so noticeable that it always sounded as if one or even 2 windows were cracked open. $150 in giftcards. Free money so i spent like a week researching the proper way. Mass Loaded Vinyl. foam and Butyl. Spent a weekend installing this on all 4 doors and in the trunk. It did lower the noise but not by a lot. I probably would've been disappointed if i paid for someone to install this. But! for a $150 DIY project? Yeah it did it's job. I was a impressed. If anyone else would get in your car, they probably wouldn't be as impressed or even notice a difference. But I did this for me...and I was impressed. just 2 cans of spray adhesive, one roll of MLV and a single pack of Butyl rubber. I didn't even do anything extreme like installing it in ceiling and floor. So i covered only a very small portion of my car. random guess: covering less than 20% of the surface area? and even, only covering the 5 doors, I didn't cover that entire surface area. It's not necessary to cover the entire surface. I think it's something like only covering 70% is the equivalent to 95%. That's like having just 5% of the total surface area being covered with 2 layers of material. Another 5%-7% was covered in 1 layer (MLV). the other 90% is just whatever came with the car. The cabin noise at highway speeds was so loud that I would have to adjust the sound as the car would speed up from a stop. like the max level in that car was like Level 30. so something like Level 14 at a stop. Level 21 at highway. after installation: 12stop/18 highway. Imagine covering the ceiling and floor? and again, not even covering that entire area either. just covering 70% of the surface would be the equivalent to 95%. although that would cost hundreds of dollars more. It would probably be worth it. But then again going this extreme for a car that would have this little of sound deadening to begin with probably just means it's a cheap car. So why put $800+ (in just materials. no labor) into a shitbox? just spend the $150 and cover the doors. I was impressed for about a year. When someone hit me and totaled my car. Then I bought an Elantra. it was the same price as my mazda2 that i bought 5 years prior. Me: I have never felt so rich. i did not feel worthy enough to drive that beauty. lmao ....That's how loud and basic that Mazad2 was. i was just surprised that it had side airbags. I'd assume it was federally mandated by that same year. TL;DR: If you don't think car projects are fun then it's probably not worth it. If you do enjoy spending money on your shitbox then it's definitely worth it.
Man i love this comment! You definately need to love car projects to do stuff like this haha🙏🏻 and good info about coverage that is true on flat surfaces! Im surprised it didnt do that much on your car but i guess it could be wind noice etc and then you would need to do rubber seals between the door and frame and such. And i must agree the new Hyundais are UNDERRATED! Love those cars design so much! After i do the Doors i Will try the wheel wells and see because according to my iPhone im at ~73db and that could very Well be road noise and thats what it sounds like atleast. So that Will be next but then ill probably be happy because its pretty comfy already👍😎
@RedBaronGarage I personally did notice a difference. A minor difference but way worth it to me. The butyal sheets only need to cover 70ish percent of the surface but the MLV needs to be as close to 100% as possible. So I would've been in heaven if I had the money to fully enclose that 2012 Mazda2. Spending 150 on the doors was worth it. The sound it would make when you closed it 👌
Yeah i totally agree!
