There is everyone else and then there is Ryan, who just recently left us altogether too soon, due to cancer. His Carnival of Venice cannot help but bring a smile to your lips and a joy in your heart. His tone was heavenly and now is entertaining the angels. In the meantime, this most challenging of pieces in the literature can only work as the carnival it simulates, when the performer has acquired such a technical facility that the nearly impossible phrases has achieved perfection, while sounding East (well, almost easily!). Clearly Ryan has achieved it at a level the rest of us mere mortals can only aspire to. As for me, he has been inspiring me for many years and will for as long as I draw a breath. Rest in eternal peace, my dear friend!
Very sad news ... Ryan Anthony passed away yesterday June 23, 2020 at the age of 51. He embodied the essence of the warrior poet and was the cofounder of Cancer Blows.
A true musician. A true artist. A true performer. R.I.P. Mr. Anthony! What an inspiring and exciting performance. So energetic with full heart in it! Some people don’t like audience applause between movements or between variations. But with this performance, you can feel the interaction between Mr. Anthony and the audience. All the applause between variation exhibit the appreciation among them, two ways appreciation. Maybe this is the “right way” of applause of this piece. Certainly it shows in this video. I only learned Mr. Anthony this afternoon and I am wholeheartedly touched. Shame on me when I call myself a trumpeter. I will cherish very much these videos. Bravo!
Just need to add - I just finished hearing him play this piece the third time. I have to say, the last long high C at the end of introduction is really “haunting” ...... And those smiles from the audience after each variation....... And the swinging motion of Mr. Anthony while playing...... And the smiles of Mr. Anthony as if saying “thank you for listening my playing”......
You are my favorite trumpet player and a massive inspiration! I live in Dallas and I come to the symphony all the time (we're season pass holders); the trumpet sound never fails to wow me!
lots of technicians play this piece....LOTS....they NEVER play it with soul, heart , feeling NUANCE , TASTE, the LITTLE tiniy things that make an artist and artist.....not just a fast not player. RYAN gives such a beautiful, melodic, tender performance without sacrificing technique. BRAVO Believe me, ive heard Carnival 100's of times.......wonderful
I love these videos!! I listened to Mr Anthony's playing as I began to get serious about the instrument, and he left a huge fingerprint on my sound concept!
Not as leisurely as Maurice Andre, if I may say so, but the creativity and modified variations make up for it! Great job!! If people think Wynton Marsalis' recording is mind-blowing, they ought to watch this!
Più che trombettista un vero musicista completo in ogni aspetto. Grande gusto e tecnica sopraffina. Tra l'altro, ha scelto le variazioni in assoluto più difficili, degne di Maurice André o Sergej Nacharjakov.

Cancer Blows! Such a terrible loss to his family, friends and fans.
A virtuosic performance. Rest in peace, Mr. Anthony. You have brought hope and joy to many through your music.

WHAT AN HONOR TO BE ABLE TO HEAR SUCH A WONDERFUL RENDITION OF CARNIVAL OF VENICE - WE HAVE LOST A TRULY GENTLE SOUL.
Oh my, what a performance. That spot at 3:28 especially is simply unbelievably well done
Watching him makes ME run out of breath and I'm not the one not inhaling.
Grand classic magnifique, joué par un des plus grand clarinettiste passés sur cette terre ! Respect et admiration Monsieur Benny Goodman !!

I listen to this piece of music almost every day - the music lifts my spirits. We have lost an angel too soon.

I love your sound. Constant on all the range, silky attacks. I even more like your sound on the piccolo.
This is my favourite version
Chills....The way Carnival of Venice is supposed to be played!
Thanks for sharing Ryan. It's amazing how our musical mentors and other music shapes the way we approach and play music. Dan.

Absolutely marvelous - what a gift to share with humanity.
Such a wonderful gift, to bring such joy and beauty to so many.

I'm coming to see you perform the Hayden in October - can't wait!
undoubtly he's making people smile at heaven!
Somehow you made it look as if you were grinning while playing, that's pretty cool!
Rest in peace.

Wonderful - thank you
This is amazing! The way you mastered playing two totally different lines at once (No idea what it called, but its at the end) is magnificient

dope

Jealous I feel ? Liz
Высший класс!!!
I don't get how 12 people can not like this. I'm a trombone player and I still enjoyed this
Sorry, but 6 more joined the 12 people from two years ago. Really hard to imagine how a thumb down can be given on a performance like this one myself.
Dave Grohl on triangle did well
RIP
So gopd.
Cancer does indeed blow.
