I used to rely on Windows Security, but then after a virus attack, The virus deleted Windows Security files from registry, and no files were corrupted, only deleted, so windows could not fix any "corrupt" files. Had to reinstall my windows installation entirely.

Yes i uninstall it few days ago . I always wonder why new laptop is working slow ,lag and stuck sometimes. I used it for 1 year .Finally out of frustration i uninstalled antivirus and few more unnecessary app .I also turn off animation. Now I find my laptop is fast . The reason why third party AV work is because they have virus database, including the ones they have created. So you definitely need a AV for that
