A few tips: 1.) Use the Lotus OE head gasket made by Goetze. It's cheap and works perfectly. 2.) JAE has an ARP bolt kit for the cam towers to replace those torx bolts. It's ~$65 and works great. 3.) Removing the engine is as easy as it looks. People who describe it as daunting on forums are generally doing it in the their home garage. It's intimidating for a DIY'er in that context, but is no big deal in a well equipped shop with the engine lid already removed. It pops right out with the transmission attached and is far easier than pulling a 308/328 motor. FWIW, with the head already removed, you may have an easier time pulling the trans separately.

I used to work on these. You bring back memories. Bent valves? yea I did that to. On a Europa Twin cam, did a valve adjust, full service, went to start the thing and no way. All 4 intake valves bent- on the starter motor!. Customer was on the way had to get it back together. Ripped it apart, changed the valves, put it back together and the customer shows up. He never knew what happened. Kept the valves as a reminder. Started PUSHING the car in gear to make sure I didn't miss anything. BTW the early engines had a problem with the oil leaking from the towers around the oil tubes/ports. (the early cars like Jensen Healey's , had no tubes or oil rings.) Also when removing the engine/trans I always went out the bottom with the whole thing.

You can either get parts from JAE in California or SJ Sports Cars in the UK. Parts direct from SJ in the UK arrive within 4-5 days if you specify DHL shipping. JAE has everything you'd need on the shelf in Goleta, CA.

I dunno guys, I'd be a little wary about putting a bigger turbo on that four banger. Chapman and co were designing F1 cars at the time and they would wring out 100% of the potential from these engines. You've already got an engine that went pop for some reason (probably overboost from that tiny turbo), I'd hate to see you get it back together again only to see it go pop again. Great content by the way. Remember, LOTUS stands for Lots Of Troubles Usually Serious.

Yikes! Sorry to see your Lotus isn't working out quite how you hoped, we're about to disassemble our Esprit as well to see just what is what. Fingers crossed it's not as bad as yours!

i really hope jared gets a fair share of the revenue from both channels.
edit: wrote "a fair share" instead of "50%" as a few good folks pointed out in the replies that it was too much and I now agree that it probably is too much.

From both?? No. From this one maybe. From the Tavarish channel no way. Freddy was popular before Jared. And he bankrolls all the projects.

@@JonSnowsGhost but bro now jared does 80% of the work on the main channel and 100% of the work on this channel. thinking back to what i said, maybe he should get 40% from both instead of 50%.

Dude . . . that's not remotely realistic. I'm thinking more like 60-80% of Wrench Every Day after expenses of both YT and merch money. Then something like 20% of Tavarish video money for the videos that he's in. Keep in mind that Freddy is still making money on views for the Gallardo and Mini cooper videos with Andrew. Channels take years of nonstop work to build. Jared is fantastic, but if he had all the skills to start a channel from scratch, he would have done it before he met Freddy.

@@neubianx refer to the comment above. also keep in mind that he literally goes to another state, away from home, away from family, for weeks. also uses his own truck to haul stuff. and is a overall nice guy.

@@ssa0026 i hear you. But the work doesn’t matter if nobody is watching. We know about Jared because Tavarish introduced him to us. That exposure that freddy gave him is worth something. Plus he’s editing the videos. To be clear I do think Jared should get a good chunk from wrench and a smaller peace from the Tavarish channel. But we can’t act like Tavarish wasn’t Tavarish before Jared.

I used to use a place in Event Texas called Sports Car World. I dont know if they still exist but I have rebuilt maybe 50 Esprit engines with parts from them. Just be happy you dont need new pistons and jugs.

Jarod, now that you're officially going broke, you need to make your own wine from the grape or strawberry jelly from the food bank pantry. 2 jellies, 1 lb sugar, yeast (which you can buy or get out of the air). Wine of 13 to 17% alcohol on the high end. Yeast out of the air 5 to 7%.

A little pedantry: "charge cooler" is the most correct name for a single-stage forced air cooling apparatus such as used here because it exists to cool the hot compressed air charge that comes directly out of the turbo or supercharger before it goes into the engine. A proper intercooler is used between intermediate stages of multi-stage air compression, hence its name. Typically in these multi-stage applications there's also an aftercooler, so named because it sits at the end of the forced induction system and just before the engine. Everybody seems to have latched on to calling every charge cooler an "intercooler" though, even auto manufacturers.

Good chance to do ceramic coating on exhaust manifold, turbine, dump, front pipe and exhaust shield to keep those temps under control.
