You did a really good job. I am an avid smoker and barbecue at least five days a week. Currently using my second build, UDS smoker. Yours is a great design and almost identical to mine. A couple changes I would make based on experience, but, a good build !!!!! Apex Drums in LA there’s a good source for drums for any of you locals. Also, purchased online, a Weber kettle barbecue cover fits the UDS perfectly.
Also for the intake nipples, use black iron and black iron threaded caps. Or the brass that you used. Just make sure everything is stainless, or black iron. No galvanized. Which I’m sure you know. Adding this because I didn’t hear you mention what metal your nipples were
Costs: 25 for drum that required elbow grease and burn out. Around 50 for basket. 25$ for the hanging system that is optional. Grates are about 20 each. 25 or so for valves. 15 for vent. 20 for miscellaneous hardware. All in under 200$ as I can best recall.

Nice build. Chickens and ribs looking good! I’m in the process of making one.
A homemade coal basket with expandid metal and 14" weber coal grate costs about $67 including 3/8 rod for ashpan risers. UDS parts is the way to go
Where did you get the hanging racks? Thanks! I couldn’t find them eBay as of now….
Any plans looking to make one with propane
Great build
