Chef, that was a lot of work. I can appreciate why some of these customs go for the amount of money they are sold for. Came out very nice. Take care Chef Johnny.
Thanks, I appreciate you watching. with parts from the hardware store I have built one in a few hours. The painting added to this one. But I really like the way this one cooks. I do have a video of how I built my other one and it does not have a kit.
Thanks for stopping by. I am looking at starting them again. I am just trying to find a time where I don’t step on others toes. That is tough since I know so many lives going on.
Hey Chef , When you get a change i've got a question ....... Why did you burn-off the out-side paint coating , Vice just painting over it with Hi-Temp primer and then apply a coat of Hi-Temp Paint ???? Thanks Buddy
Am a newbie in diy tasks; and I'm a good tinker of surpluses. I would follow your drum smoker process once I collect all materials. Thanks for sharing. #the_aging_ofw🤠🇵🇭
Butch thanks for watching ad glad you found some tips you could use. Here is the link to my other UDS video. This is one built from sctatch. ua-cam.com/video/uY3zeWGBLW0/v-deo.html
I'm going to soon begin a 55 gal drum smoker myself and it occurred to me after watching this that pear burner is the perfect way (for me) to burn it out.
The inside is hard to burn out with the pear burner. Sometimes it seems it does not get is hot when inside of the barrel. I have burnt them out the inside with wood before and may do that again next time.
Where can one find a 55 gallon drum? Online drums must be bought in bulk ($600+ abc cost). No single purchase. Craigslist offers nothing. This hss been my stumbling block, locating a drum. I live in a small CO town and not many options. Do you have links to reliable but cost reasonable sources for 55 gallon drum? Thanks
The smooth side barrels are hard to find. I actually got two from a friend of mine. You can order them from UDSPARTS.con. Not cheap but they will ship them out to you. I think Smoker Builder has them and so does Big Papa Smokers. I can get the ones with the rings for $25 so I always use them. I have only built two smooth ones. Thanks for watching.
I would search barrels for sale in your local town. I get mine in San Antonio at Dave The Barrel Man. Usually a used barrel with removable lid is $25-$35. Smooth sided ones are harder to find and cost a little more.
Great video fixing to build me another one was not sure how far apart on my intakes can maybe you do a video on direct flow verses a reverse flow and your thoughts thanks far this helpful video
Great instruction! I'm following along. I have 4 wheels instead of 3. Where would you place them? Do you think the pipes will interfere with placement?
@@TexasStyleCuisine Hey Johnny - can i use a drum that has rust inhibitor on the inside. I have an old drum that i was gonna use but after buying all of the new stuff that just don't make sense. the new ones from granger have the rust inhibitors on them... any advise would be appreciated brother!
hey chef, this is the best tutorial Ive seen. I want to know the inches of the intakes holes and the dimensions of the fire basket... please help me with thos questions!!!!!!
It’s all in the video. But that basket was bought 12”X12”X12”. Bottom holes are 17” off the bottom and the upper bolt holes are 26” I believe. You want at least 7” between the grate and the lid.
Maitree, I had a dear friend that was in a wheel chair and so I do have an idea. The hard part would be the inside bolts. I would think if you had a short stand to sit it on. Have something on it where it would not roll off. Maybe a couple of blocks of wood on each side. I think with help Al could have done it, but it would have been tough for him alone. Heck it was tough on my alone. lol Shoot me an email and I will give ya my phone number and we can talk about it sometime if ya want to. texasstylecuisine@gmail.com.
Good detailed video. I do have a question. The wheel mounts and wheels you purchased from uds did they come with the hardware for bolting them up or did you have to purchase yourself?
I watched this stoned and I ended up so confused listening to you measure. Then the line placement and fractions I was laughing so hard. Sounded like Chinese arithmetic! Outstanding build my friend. Is building more cost effective than buying one already made?
David I had a 16 hour cook in it the other day and did not have to refill. I used Royal Oak briquettes in the bottom and Fogo Premium Lump in the top. About half and half and the brisket I cooked came out great. I still had lump and briquettes left in the basket. The brisket I showed in the video is that brisket. Thanks for watching.
@@TexasStyleCuisine Great video I love your channel. I recently built one and used the lavalock 14' round charcoal basket that holds about18 pounds. It lasted over 24 hous above 225 degrees.
I have made a few now. Some from kits and some from parts I got at the hardware store. Food grade barrels are $25-35 around here. But with a run to the hat store you can make an excellent smoker for a hundred bucks. Thanks for watching
Hello. I'm from Russia. we don't have uds smoker. But I would like to do it. You can send me the assembly instructions. That I could translate through the translator.

Doesn’t the inside of the barrel have to be lined or sealed with something?
Actually you burn out the liner in it. Them when you season it it is lined once again but with the good stuff.
Hey Chef , When you get a change i've got a question ....... Why did you burn-off the out-side paint coating , Vice just painting over it with Hi-Temp primer and then apply a coat of Hi-Temp Paint ???? Thanks Buddy
I was using a high temp primer, so I wanted it straight onto the metal. Probably did not need to but I thought it would help.

It is about an inch above the grate
