Thanks for the tip I’m going to be taking out my Talon this weekend to the Sand dunes.
Just bought us a 2020 1000x4 LV to replace our 16 rzr 4 900. It has blown me away how much better it is.
Night and day over a Razor 900 and that’s the first thing Joe said when he got his Talon. -Garrett
Awesome 👍 first time I've heard a great version of the DCT other than everyone saying wow it's different! It's just different!
I've driven them but not long enough to form an opinion like in this video.
Can't beat the swapping in these videos and the non biased feedback.
I learned a lot and it takes time to understand the DCT and what it can do. 👍-Garrett
Don’t worry about throttle control! Jackson racing turbo makes this thing awesome. 200 miles no issues! Love it!
I think I missed it, what top speed do these hit?
Nice review, I have 400 miles on my 2021 live valve R 2 seater. The more I drive it the more I like the transmission especially in manual mode. Heading to St. Anthony’s for a couple weeks in a few days.
How do you like the suspension on it? I’m hearing mixed reviews.
Really great review Garrett!
It was a great time to learn more about the Talon. -Garrett
@@DerangedOffRoad I have the same machine also in az like joe, I love it big upgrade I feel like from my xp4 1000 Polaris.
Hands down way better built then the xp. The Live Valve makes a huge difference for stability at higher speeds. -Garrett
Sport mode feels fine
Love my talon 4x..down hill in low is like being in a 4x4 truck.. did a huge run at syscomore from upper to lower Saturday..what windshield are you running?

I have been looking a purchasing my first sxs. I have always loved how reliable Honda products. I know the other manufacturers make good stuff too. Not knowing much about the vehicles yet, I am leaning towards the Talon (2 seater) with FLV. My local dealer has a little course behind his shop that he let me test drive it on. My wife isn't really into outdoor sports. Hates riding with my on my motorcycles. I couldn't believe the grin on her face when I was tearing up the little jumps on the dealers course. She said it was like a "Disney Ride", and gave me the nod to get one. It felt fine to me in normal mode, but of course, I'm a total nube to this sport. Loved your review. One thing she mentioned that I am interested in as well: Is there any way to make it quieter? The exhaust note was a bid loud for my taste. Of course, I don't want to mess with exhaust if it's going to rob power. Thanks!
They might have some aftermarket slip on’s that will help. Two seaters are just going to be louder though no matter what. Best thing to do is put a intercom system in it. You can block all the noise, listen to music and talk to each other and other cars with radio’s. 👍
It's amazing how 10 reviews are completely different. One guy says that you can't feel the small bumps and the other guy says you can feel them all.m
I think some of it probably has to do with tire pressure. 32’s at 10psi will give you a pretty smooth ride while 32’s at 15psi will definitely roughen it up a bit! -Joe
There's also many people who are too proud to criticize their own machines after spending $20k or more on them. They're aren't many machines that give you a great smooth comfortable ride off the showroom floor. Every machine can be improved and made better.
-Dave
@@DerangedOffRoad And it has to do with personal preferences. No machine will be everything to everybody because if there were the rest would be out of business. All and all a good helpful logical review. I always think Honda when I want something for longevity.
One thing to take into consideration with these reviews, we each had each others machines for two to three weeks. So it helped give a better review then just spending two hours in one. 👍 -Garrett
That bog...you need a COPS tune REALLY BAD.
You guys are making it so hard for me.to choose in my second machine lol.. Talon R or krx. 🤔
It’s a hard choice, but if I’m looking for ride quality out of the box the KRX hands down. If you want to feel more power the Talon. With that said the KRX is not far off on power and with the ride quality my choice is the KRX. I’m only talking two seat models. -Garrett
The talon R is a different beast than the X. You’ll likely find better deals on a Talon with the shortage that’s starting to happen for the KRXs. They’ll ride really well with new springs and a spare mounted all the way to the rear. You will not go wrong with either rig! -Joe
@@DerangedOffRoad yea the only detractor of the krx for me is the weight. Here in az as Joe knows. You need full Reggie over 1800lbs. Thats a lot of expenses per year. And i want to be able to go to glamis a couple times a year without worry of power . I think talon fits the. Ill better for me but i do really like the krx.. hence the tough choice ..lol
The stock tires are definitely better for sand than most of these “Truck” style tires, like the Terebite tires that I have. But I ended up using my stock rims with 360 sand paddle tires, which are awesome at Glamis.
We trail ride mostly in rocky terrain (i.e. Rocky Mountains, Hill country of Texas, Ozarks and Utah. How do you think the transmission would work in lower rpm and lower speed (sub 20mph) trail riding with steeper inclines?
I think it would work great for all that. -Garrett
Have you tested paddle tires on it?!! I have yet to see video of a 4 seater talon with paddle tires..
I’d like to. I don’t dune enough to buy a set. May look at renting some next time I go to the dunes. -Joe
I'm in the market for a family ride, we mostly ride rocky mountain rocky trails at less than 15 mph and some rock climbing. I had planned on putting 32's on it as well. Do you think the stock live valve suspension is going to be to rough at slower speeds too? I just hate to spend that much on a bike and have to dump another 1500 on suspension. Is it more plush of a ride than the Teryx 4? I've had one of those before.
Stock ride is many times better than the Teryx4. I thought the stock ride was great but Dave and Garrett were both expecting it to ride like your on a cloud and it doesn’t so they were both wanting more than it is. My wife commented on how smooth the ride was on more than one occasion. Most people would be more than happy with the ride. With that said, the ride is MUCH better after Shock Therapy did their work and to me it’s worth every penny!
Hope that helps. -Joe
Do you know of any company’s that make fender flairs that don’t have a cut out in them
Just curious if you had any problems with the 32" scrubbing without add-ons. Thanks
No only hard truns just a little bit but nothing to worry about.
Do you know of any bump seats that work for these? We just bought one and i'm having a hard time locating one that'll fit.
Follow this page should have one this summer and I used theirs on my Teryx4.

-Garrett
Leaning between this and the krx4. Price at 22k is certainly appealing but wondering if any have some pros/cons with each or would like to share some insight to a new sxs buyer?
is the shaft reliable
What machine is quietest and which is loudest?
Between the KRX and the XRC I’d say they’re very close with the XRC being just a little bit louder when on the throttle. The Talon is quieter than both but it’s a 4 seater. -Joe
Just a quick tip...if you come across a set of Bighorns you can mount on the factory rims they would work great for the dunes!
I’ll keep an eye out. I’d love to have some as my second set. -Joe
Deranged Off-Road Exactly
What tires are you running and size please
Tusk Terrabite 32’s in stock rims
What Size tires are you running on it they are not stock I see. Thinking of buying one and wondering it you altered anything running those bigger tires?
I see you mentioned they re 32s
They're Tusk Terrabites 32" mounted on stock rims. No modifications
Hey! So I'm 6'2" how tall are you? Would I have plenty of room to be comfortable driving the talon for hours at a time?
I’m 6 foot but Joe is like 6’4 so he would be better to answer that. I didn’t have any issues with comfort after a full day of riding. -Garrett
I’d say it’s good not great. Would be better with some seat risers in the front. I’m usually comfortable all day. -Joe
What tires did you use on this? Stock wheels?
These are Tusk Terrabites in this video. Most recently we’ve been running the Tusk Megabites
@@DerangedOffRoad awesome. They on stock wheels? What size tires?
In the market - we have a tall 6 year old. Would he have decent visibility in the back seat without a booster?
It would be close. The talon offers better seating in the back than others. I’d take him to a dealer and let him sit in the back to check it out
So Garrett, Knowing what you know now. if you could only buy one and have to keep it in stock form for a
considerable amount of time.
What would you buy? Talon Live Valve or KRX es?
Krx es because the suspension is better in stock form. Maybe Joe will chime in as well. -Garrett
@@DerangedOffRoad I know this is silly, but if your able to modify right off the bat, does that change your opinion. I've been leaning more toward the KRX myself, but its hard to overlook the Honda DCT.
The Honda even with its suspension upgraded still isn't comparable to the KRX stock suspension.
-Dave
@@DerangedOffRoad Awesome. KRX. Now just wait to see if they add a turbo this next model year.
For me personally I’ll take ride performance over a DCT any day. Now if you had both a different story. -Garrett
Just spent 4 days with a 4 seater at the Glamis Sand dunes, here's the best advice I can give you.. DON'T BUY ONE, I'm much happier with my can am and rzr, I'm glad I got one to use and didn't buy it, underpowered, suspension to stiff, and not exciting to wheel thru the sand dunes, launch control is fun for about 7 mins then it's lame, one thing that I can't knock is the build quality of a Honda, I was a Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha dealer from 91-2001 so I'm not a random individual first time user, also have had many yrs at the dunes with everything from trikes, Sand cars, buggys, Quads and numerous SxS's. I was really looking forward to this machine, but was unfortunately very disappointed in the performance at the end of the day, we put 200 plus miles on it over the past 4 days here in Glamis over this week and sitting around the campfire tonight as I write this while wait for midnight and the end of 2020 looking and that Talon sitting next to my Can Am I reliaze how Honda was late to the game, then when they finally showed up the couldn't even play.... Disappointing....
If you go to big dunes more than 1-2 times a year and don’t want to spend $6k on a turbo, I can’t say that I disagree... and I own one. They’re fine at Sand Hollow, Wynoka, and smaller dunes but if you want to throw big sand and make long runs, the Talon 4 seaters, along with any other n/a 4 seater will not provide the same smiles per hour as the Turbo cars from Polaris and CanAm. -Joe
What brand is the windshield?
derangedoffroad.com/products/dirt-warrior-honda-talon-front-windshield?_pos=2&_sid=b093fc49c&_ss=r
Are those the stock wheels and tires?
Stock rims, 32” tusk Terrabites for tires.
Getting a loud whining noise from mine in 4wd.
Check your fluid levels. Diff whines when it’s low.
Mines doing that too! Sometimes louder than others.
@@DerangedOffRoad Just bought it only have 70 miles. Hoping the dealer prep covered that...
Don't count on the 16 year old kids doing the pdi check list to do anything other than putting a check mark on the list.
@@DerangedOffRoad First thing I did. Scratching my head on what it could be.
Pretty sad that the big draw of this unit is the live valve and it’s bad enough to need shock therapy’s help
It doesn’t NEED shock work. Just like any other rig, It would be better with shock work. Live Valve isn’t intended to give you a smoother ride, it’s intended to adjust on the fly based on terrain, dozens of sensors, and driver input. And it does that very well. Much tighter in the corners, faster in the whoops, etc. It could definitely be improved but so could any other. I’m sure shock therapy and others spend much more time on Polaris and Canaan shocks then they do Honda Live Valves. -Joe
Deranged Off-Road disagree completely, if I’m paying a huge premium for a top of the line electronically controlled suspension, it should be smooth when you want it to be and sporty when you want it to be. If you have to make excuses for it then it’s clearly not worth the extra money.
Not making any excuses. We’ll just have to agree to disagree on the purpose and value of the system. -Joe
It still looks like a 10 year old design with 32's and horrible thumping engine sound.
By the way, I'm a huge Honda fan, but on the SxS, I only like their DCT....did I mentioned about the horrible lawn-mower like engine sound?
Come on Honda, we don't care for cute painted wheels!!!!
We want a less toy-look but a more aggressive sporty looking off-road machine, with better designed suspension and put a darn real 4 cylinder turbo engine on it!
Hire some foreign engineers if your team can't do it!
