I recently bought a Talon 1000R-4. I absolutely love it. Had it on the Hatfield/McCoy trail system in WV. It conquered obstacles and water/mud that I thought might be a problem. It definitely did not hesitate. I was with a friend who had a Polaris Rzr. He said the Honda’s ride was smoother

Never seen a Talon out on the trail without 32” tires. So I think the people have spoken about tire size. Then the power thing. Everyone is saving to buy a Turbo. I’d be happy if Honda would just put a 4 cylinder in it if they don’t want to put a turbo in it.

More clearance is without a doubt the biggest problem with the 28" tires. The rep said it himself "90% of the people put larger tires on"
I have the original 2019 1000R and going to a light weight 32" tire and a good skid plate are all I've needed to do.

I really like the Honda philosophy. Everyone customizes to their taste. You are free to spend what you want to do so. Honda gives you the reliable, well engineered platform to start with. Then you can do the rest from the vast choices. Tires and wheels for example. It makes more sense to pick exactly what you want from the aftermarket. If the stock option wasn't what you wanted, you would want to change it anyway.

My father-inlaw has a 19 talon 1000x and he loves it. When it comes time for me to get a sxs, I will be getting a 1000r live valve. So we have talked about the 4 cylinder, big wide, high hp cars and I think what honda should do to take a shot Across the bout of the competition is to put a cbr1000r, or a gold wing engine in the talon? Any thoughts?

Yessir, many years ago - 28s would've been just fine and dandy but not nowadays! It's wild how fast this segment has progressed over the years though and what used to be "big" and what's considered the norm these days.
I thought it was pretty interesting to hear what some of the Honda reps had to say on that topic. I'd LOVE to have some more one-on-one time and really dive into some more of the nitty-gritty details behind how they choose this versus that etc though. Wish I could share all of what we talked about but very cool hearing some of their insight as to what goes into these and how they end up landing on those details that make it to market.
Really appreciate ya watching and hopping in the conversation too bud ;)

I personally don’t think the factory tire size is that big of a deal. The most common aftermarket “upgrade” is tire size and tire tread based on individual needs. I don’t want to pay for 30’s from the factory if Im likely going to swap them out anyway. I think tires, seats, and harnesses are the most common aftermarket investments. Maybe roll bars as well.

Sadly Honda is so far behind everyone since they are slow to update anything that they can’t be competitive with what other manufactures are making and they have became the value brand. As much as it pains me to say as i have been a life long Honda fan but recently switched to Yamaha because they are making some newer competitive models. The Ramx is what i’m referring to. I switched from a Pioneer.

Really appreciate you sharing your thoughts, Mark. Yes, I'm a Honda fanboy but I'm not blind as to what's going on with other manufacturers and how some of them are definitely doing some things different / better than Honda in some aspects... Yamaha has been killing it lately and the RMAX is no doubt an awesome machine but if you don't mind me asking... what is it about the RMAX that made you jump ship from the Pioneer?

@@HondaProKevin First i want to thank you for everything you do. I switched from atv’s to utv’s so i could take my wife along. I bought the Pioneer 5 when it came out in 2016. It is a really good under rated trail machine. Seat comfort and heat from under the seat are it’s major drawbacks. It got to the point that my wife didn’t enjoy riding because of those issues. The Rmax competes with the General and that is what i was looking for, something to trail ride & still have a dumping bed, so that ruled the Talon out. I that the Rmax would be more reliable over the General as it aged. She sat in the Rmax and the seats and seat belt adjusters that let you set the hight of the seat belt at the top sold her. For me it was that it came with a winch, nice seat, stereo and Adventure Pro screen, fox QS3’s and 30” tires. Basically it was trail ready the way i bought it. I got it for the same money that i could have bought a Talon X Live Valve which i would have had to add lower doors and a winch & 30” tires and then i was spending more money to get to where the Rmax was stock. I love the Honda drivetrain. I just wish they would put better seats and adjustable seat belts and fix the heat issue on the Pioneer and the Talon really needs to come with 30” on it these days. I understand Honda’s thinking that it was designed with those specific tires in mind and a lot of engineering went into the design but the reality is that everyone puts 30” or 32” on them and a winch right away. It obviously can handle them since every machine out there has been running them since 2019. They are so conservative since the law suits from the 250R atv days that there are afraid to make true performance machines and that is where the market is headed with others having over 200hp these days. I hope someone at Honda is paying attention and will do something.

@HondaProKevin I own a 23 Honda Talon R4 live valve and a 22 RMAX2 LE. I like them both. The Talon is much quieter and I like not having a belt even though the yamaha belt system is really nice. The yamaha screams at 55mph on pavement where the Talon feels like I'm driving a car. The RMAX suspension is softer and doesn't beat you up on slow rough trails. Also..the ability to adjust throttle modes and suspension modes from the drivers seat is really nice. The Talon gas pedal is EXTREMELY touchy!!!! Really takes some getting used to and why in the world does it still come with 28s? Most 4wheelers come with 28s these days!! Also...the fit and finish of the RMAX is really the best of any sxs. Leg room in both machines is about the same with a slightly different seating position. They both feel like they have the same amount of power. I didn't buy them to race and I've never been in a situation with either one and thought....if only I had a turbo 🤔 if I could build my own machine...I'd use a KRX suspension, yamaha fit and finish, Honda drive train, and cfmoto price tag.

People who want "more power" don't understand Honda which is all about reliability which in the side by side market especially with Can Am pieces of junk Honda simply will not "go there." This is why so many are so loyal to the Honda Badge as opposed to any other this true of their motorcycle offerings most notably the NC-7xx series of bikes which make for incredible fuel economy and practicality as opposed to what the entire Industry spends their entire wad on namely...more power. Point being if you want to compete with Kubota and John Deere and who knows whoelse now which make actual around the farm and ranch machines you need to de-tune the item to give this farm like experience to a UTV customer...simply put a great addition to the "stable" if you're in to this sort of thing. Not that a Honda Goldwing is underpowered of course!
