    It just doesn't seem real that Charles is no longer with us. Still I come back and watch his videos every spring.
    I pray for his family as I know his presence is sadly missed.
    Great content, Charles. Thanks for starting the channel and sharing all your experience and wisdom....and humor. Jesus bless his family.

      Thank you PB, I try to make videos that will help you with your gardening and growing some of your own food. I appreciate comments such as yours and appreciate it if you tell others about my channel. I also don't like the music we find on many videos, I don't understand why video makers feel that loud music is necessary. I usually just click off that type video and go on to something else. Thank you for commenting on my videos, it helps me to make better videos for you! Thanks for stopping by and for commenting!

      OldAlabamaGardener I second that. On some videos you find, the music is louder than the person speaking. Something else that I love about your videos is that you fast-forward through the repetitive tasks. You spare us planting beet seedlings every 4 inches along a 47 foot row and instead go right to the next step in the process. Your videos are THE best, thank you.

    Thank you for another informative video! You inspire me, and rest that back often because if that goes you'll never be the same...take it from someone who has several bad discs/back problems. I started gardening a few years ago to motivate me to get outside and be more active, and to eat healthier. I can't do too much and I'm inexperienced but I have always had a fascination with plants and watching them grow, so even if my plants fail I still love watching how they change from day to day and to learn what to do/not do from people such as yourself as I never had family to show me. I wish I tried gardening many years ago, I've missed out on so much! See you at your next video! 🌞🌱😀

      @OldAlabamaGardener  7 років тому +2

      Thank you Tracy! Please don't let your feeling of being inexperienced hold you back from gardening. Gardening is so good for us, it gets us outside in the sunlight, it get us some exercise and we get to eat some fresh vegetables, that makes gardening and all around winner for us! Even though you didn't learn gardening from family, you can and should think of us on UA-cam as a family or community helping each other. Yes, I'll upload more videos. Thanks for stopping by!

    I watched & enjoyed al 3 of your Vids on Beets, and learned everything I need to know, as I am going to be growing Beets for the first time in raised beds.. It was very helpful that you detailed the amount of time from seed starting to ready for transplant, and showed the progress and what I should expect them to look like along the way.. I have an indoor grow light system and now know how I should time it, for when I move them outside into beds -- which here in South Florida is early October.. I've watched many of your tutorials, and appreciate you sharing your knowledge with folks like myself who are eager to learn, and pass it along to others..

    What a wonderful informative video. Now a subscriber too. I will be starting my beats in cells. I am so happy to see that you can separate and use the plants that came up, most say to thin or clip off. Thank you. First time I am starting ahead with them, normally I start in ground. I am looking forward in planting at spacing and no thinning needed. QUESTION…..how long do you keep your row cover on?

  • @jaridkeen123
    @jaridkeen123 4 роки тому +5

    You should try direct sowing your beet seeds and not thin them. You can grow more beets in a smaller space. Beets dont need to be thinned, they will develop just fine. Just try it one season

      Carol:I don't remember but probably if I didn't water the plants when I transplant them, it was probably because the soil was wet enough or rain was forecast for that night or the next day. BUT, watering them when you set them out is a good thing to do. And you noticed that I covered the small plants with some white material, that was to provide shade fo them until they could get established.

      @@OldAlabamaGardener I don't use that much chicken manure. You said you were using triple 13? If that is 13-13-13 that is way stronger than even fresh chicken manure though probably slow release (I use aged chicken manure or top dress on the side to prevent root burn). I am in middle GA and have heard others have problems with beets here too, could be the clay/sand soil. Maybe starting them in seed cells will help.

    • @OldAlabamaGardener

      I hear you and I don't think it is the amount of chicken manure you are using that is causing your beet growing difficulty, I do think it is the ratio of NPK, meaning too much N.
