oh ok cool. I got the kit in today and hot wired it. I also got the 3sx pre-intake pipes because my rubber ones on the back turbo had a tear in it. I also changed the spark plugs/wires (ngk copper plugs/msd plugs) My car was studdering a bit the other day, but everything I did today seemed to fix it. The car is my daily driver to school and back (45 min). Its been 3 years so far. Its holding up good. I just can't wait to finish school so I can do serious upgrades.
The issue is that the stock fuel pressure regulator will be over run by the increase in fuel pressure. As it it won't be able to let the extra fuel get back to the tank. This will cause increased fuel pressure and therefore increased fuel consumption and you will run rich. If you get an aem fpr and gauge so you can set your base fuel pressure you will be fine to install the 255 and keep everything else stock/N/A.
I figured it out.. Yesterday I had replaced a cracked rubber hose (the one with a red line) with a regular hose. This morning I realized that the red line hose had a reducer. I would guess that could have possibly had cause the over boost. So what I did was rigged it up to re-use that red line hose. I also replaced a few collapsed, twisted, and kinked silicon hoses that connected to the Y-pipe and the intake plenum. Not really sure which one fixed the problem... but one of those worked. lol
6ga works just fine. You can get technical and do voltage drop calcs based on the length of wire. Check the site steath316 it has a write up on it. Its under fuel pump rewire
So I got a sl and they did the hot wire but the fuel gauge doesn't work what can I do cause I'm reading milage and I noticed when I get low or half tank the car jults when accelerating from a complete stop. Only does that when it's low on gas
Hello my daughter has a2002 honda odyssey. My husband has put a new main fuel pump relay on and a new fuel pump and no power is getting to the pump when we switch the car on. The pump works when it connected to the battery
I have a 1999 evinrude 70 go 4 stroke that I am only getting 6.4 volts when checked at the plug using multimeter. If I check with ground to the motor I get 12.4 volts. The manual advises changing the ECU but could I splice the ground wire and ground it to the motor to get the 12 volts needed to run the fuel pump. I have already replaced one fuel pump before I found that the pump was only receiving 6.4 volts. The ECU is over $1000.00
Andrew Smith check your wiring manual to see where the fuel pumps ground goes to. It probably shares a ground block with a couple other things. Then see if that ground has a solid connection. Also check your main ground wires that ground the battery to the body of the car. To answer your question directly I don’t see a any problem with grounding the fuel pump wherever you want if it solves your problem.
Thanks for the vid. For my C6 Z eforce: How important is it to use a hot wire kit or something like this with a pump voltage booster? Mine is a daily driver that sees allot of traffic and open interstate in the same day.
I just hot-wired My friend 95 vr4 threw this video was made it really simple thanks again bro ! ....... My 93 vr4 but I do have the fuel pump resister bypass
got your message. You must have the relay wired in incorrectly. Google some sites on how the relay works. If you wire it correctly you should only get 12 volts to the pump once the switch in the relay is thrown by the stock positive wire. Also even if the pump gets voltage your shouldn't be getting fuel "thrown" anywhere. Are you saying it is leaking? shouldn't even be getting in the cylinders without the injectors opening.
Wires are likely different and I have no knowledge of that truck, but if it has an electric fuel pump then yes running a dedicated wire off the battery will work. Just properly fuse and use the relay in the same way that I do.
That's how my car is set up. Didn't have any problems before or after installing the fuel controller either. The resistor only lowers how much voltage the pump gets when your idling (and I believe low load?)
can you do both the hot-wired and fuel pump resister bypass? I just ordered a fuel pump hot wire kit and a few other stuff from 3sx and going to work on my car tomorrow.
This is how I wire my relays: 30 - Battery 87 - Power (to pump) 86 - Trigger (factory power wire) 85 - Ground The fused power from the battery goes to terminal #30. The power to the pump (black with blue strip) comes from Terminal #87. Terminal #86 is your trigger and goes to the cut wire (black with blue stripe) on the connector side. Terminal #85 is grounded, use the point at which the black wire grounds for simplicity. You should be able to use 85/86 interchangeably and it's just a coil that switches the relay. I hope that clears things up for you. He mixed up terminals 87 and 30 in the video.
yep I know what you mean. When standing on the passenger side the "protrusion" tab should be at the top left. There is a picture of it in the manual (15-14). Incorrect installation would cause idle problems not over boosting. My guess is you accidentally disconnected a waste gate hose. This would cause over boosting. Wastegates need to be connected to a boost source (prior to throttle body). Let me know if you figure it out.
I just had my fuel pump and Vac replaced in my Pontiac G6, but the fuel pump is not getting any power, I checked the fuses, but thats not the problem. What can I do ?
i have mine hooked up just like u explained and does not work my main reason for doing a hot wire was the fuel pump was not turning on i no the pump works for sure anyhelp would be great thanks
this ie the exact problem i am haveing with my stealth, it starts up useing starter fluid , runs for about 5- 10 min,, n turns off,, do u think changing the fuel pump would solve the problem
I have a 95 3000Gt DOHC non turbo... driving yesterday I noticed a considerable loss in Power or "get up" and now when the rpm's go down to idle my oil pressure gauge bottoms out. im afraid its rod bearings but the engine is not making any knocks or rattles and it cranks n runs fine, just no power and the oil pressure needle goes up and down with rpm's... any insight u have on this would be greatly appreciated
can get someone to help me out please i have a firebird 1998 v6 3800 and when it starts its runs good for about 3min and then i can olny go no more than 20mph or slower...
Hey. I have a question. I had my throttle body gasket installed wrong I think... standing from the passenger side fender (looking at the throttle body) The tab was facing towards the front of the car. I now changed it to where it is facing the back of the car. (I hope u get what I mean) but now since I did that I am overboosting...
Hey Shawn. I'm having a serious issue. I have a 97 Pathfinder. Last night I tried to start it and smelled burning wires. I pulled back the carpet and noticed a bunch of water inside where the harness lays. I've tried cutting and splicing wires but no success. Can't figure out if it's because the wires are completely toasted or the pump is fried. When I turn the key I don't hear the pump prime at all. What do you think?
I hope you will answer this... I just want to hotwire my fuel pump to test and see if it works. Can I just run 1 positive and 1 negative wire to the fuel pump just to see if it starts to pump and to see if my car will start?
what if i install a 255hp on my sl before i put the turbo's on which i am going to start buying in pieces over the next few months, will it still use the same amount of fuel as before or will it be too powerful and waste fuel?
yes i get voltage from the fuel pump when i switch the key, how do i check or wire the pump to run normal, it throws gas when i switch key ready to start
I tried to change my fuel pump today and made 0 progress after 3 and a half hours. Could not break it loose up near the pump assembly, or under the car near the tank... Tried everything. Was rounding off nuts with flare wrenches and vice grips... Sucked. Gotta take it to a shop so they can get it on a lift and work a bit more efficiently... There's only so much you can do with a little jack and stand. (Yes - scoured many many threads on 3SI. Had the same problem with the bottom of fuel filter.)
i need help, my fuel pump is running direct how can i fix it, when i switch the key it throws gas automatically but only when im going to start it need help
rebuilding my engine now. just got the car and its already relatively stock... putting 13T's in it with cams, bigger valves etc. Where did u get/what kind of relay is that?
Nice to hear that. Maybe it would be helpful if you put a comment/textbox in your video about that the wiring was a quick/temporary job. There may be viewers who are not that technical and think this is 'the way to go', cable wise. While actually, the wiring is kind of dangerous in your video.

Ok.

so did you plug harness back in after doing the hotwire or no
I just did my hotwire
You'll need to plug it back in or you won't have power to trigger the relay.
Is this the same for a 2000 Chevy Express van?
there all pretty much the same. you have to get to the wires to do it thoe

Those connections on the relay look extremely dangerous. Please for your own safety, redo them properly.
Still, great video!
duke nukem40 appreciate your concern they were redone and heat shrunk at the connections so no exposed wires

Have you confirmed you are getting 12 volts to the fuel pump while cranking?
excuse me Shawn I just wanna know what's that blue device next to the fuel pump unit
