"Babe, have you seen my 90s Seattle grunge iPod?" - Things probably only Metal Jesus has said out loud.
"Babe, have you seen my Martin Birch produced metal albums iPod?" is something I would totally say.
My wife smartly ignores me.
lol
DankPods is the best channel for this kinda stuff.
Came here to say the same thing. Send that gen1 to him Metal Jesus! Might be pricey though, he is in Australia
*DankJesusRocks*
It’s also a good channel for pkcell collectors
NUGGETS!
@@memsom Denver Nuggets!
Nice vid! Note: The 2nd gen iPod looked the same as the original, but integrated a non-moving touch sensitive scroll wheel. The “2nd gen” that you quoted (light up buttons) is actually the 3rd gen, and the blue scroll wheel was the 4th gen. Great vids looking forward to more!
I had an iPod mini in high school and to this day I think that was the best music player they made. That thing was a tank of a device! it survived a decade of abuse before the hard drive failed. RIP iPod mini. You'll never be forgotten
One can easily swap the mini drive for a CompactFlash card (Sandisk and Transcend ones tend to be more compatible)

They are definitely going to start with the big box PC games and ask “what do these mean to you? You can download them digitally instead of taking up your space. Most of them cannot even load on a current PC!”

That's a sweet GTI! Now I want a countdown of cars Metal Jesus has owned.
Hell Yeah!
I had that original USB stick shuffle, I used to hang it from my rearview mirror! I love how you have genre specific iPods, very clever! I think we have one of the HP branded iPods somewhere in the house.
Apple sucks dude… they might sell to Microsoft some day.
The little clip shuffle that was maybe the size of a quarter was my jam. I loved that thing. Although not having a screen was a bummer. But for it's time was so nice.
@@matthewbryant2972 what point does this comment serve
I've always thought the iPod was one of the first big tech gadgets that started the modern era. It replaced individual CDs and Cassettes in one swoop. When I got my first iPod, I stopped bringing CDs with me in the car completely, as I could just plug in the iPod and have all of my music. Once the iPhone and iPod Touch came out, it was all over. Nice collection! I have my 3rd gen (the one with the buttons, 2nd gen actually looks like the 1st but has a touch wheel), a 5th gen iPod video, a 160GB 6.5 gen, a 1st gen touch, a 5th gen nano, and some other ones around. iPods are cool!
Did he just call iPods ‘old tech’. Guys it’s official, we are old,
Two decades. Crazy, right?
Wait till you hear a kid call blink182 “classic rock”
@@hughjass1 I think I've already heard a kid say that, it hurt my soul
Dude this is cool! The 160gb model has been a gem and expensive for a few years now and I still use mine! Great video
This is so awesome to see! I'm glad you do this kinda content. So many ipod models I've never seen before this video. So interesting
I love collecting them too. When the DankPods channel started I was like this guy is my hero
Same, rn I have the iPod classic 5.5 gen, iPod nano 1, 2, and 3rd gen, iPod mini, iPod touch 4th gen, and an iPod shuffle 4th gen
i'm going to do the same
After watching Dankpods I ended up with a 5th gen and 7th gen ipod classic and a 7th gen ipod nano.
@@MrJturner74 Nice, mine are a 5GB 1st gen, 20GB 3rd gen and a 1st gen white nano. All with new batteries and polished to great condition. If I ever get another it will probably be a decked out 7th gen.
what you think is the 2nd iPod is actually the Third gen iPod, the 2nd gen iPod looks like the first gen except it doesn't have the Physical scroll wheel and trades it for a touch wheel, and it has a port covering the firewire port. what you think is the 3rd iPod id actually the 4th gen iPod they either had a monochrome screen or a Color screen. They called the color one The Photo iPod.
I agree with this. I have the 3rd gen iPod, which is the one with the four buttons for playback which light up.
Also what he said was the 4th gen "iPod Photo" is actually the 5th Gen aka "iPod video"
@@RC-nj1by Not exactly. Check Wikipedia. There you will find model history
@@axel8282 Yeh exactly. Check it
"iPod Photo" never came in an all black model....closest that came to that was the U2 edition with red click wheel
iPod Video "5th Gen".....did
Also...iPod Photo had an almost square screen just like the mono 4th gen (the one MJR calls a 3rd Gen)
The iPod Video had a more video friendly aspect ratio screen and I can just tell by looking at the screen that it's an iPod Video
Technical specs:
iPod Photo Screen: 220×176 pixel LCD
iPod Video Screen: 320×240 QVGA screen

I have a 5th generation iPod touch, 5th gen Nano, and 7th gen Nano. They all work great still. It’s crazy that after all this time, they still do exactly what they’re supposed to with no problems. The 5th gen Nano is my go to for music.
Damn so many memories looking at all these. You're definitely right, Apple knew going the watch route was the natural evolution of the iPod.

Paging Dankpods. But yeah, I bought several used iPods at the start of the pandemic. It’s addicting.
DP is who got me interested in upgrading them. They are so great if they have easy upgrade/replacement options.

Interesting storagee efficient way of listening to music without out capping the storage of my everyday smart phone. :)

This is such a cool collection, as always, thanks for sharing Mr. Jesus 🙏🏼
I still have a few of mine. The nostalgia is real!
Modern smartphones are difficult for workouts. I still use my ipod nano 4th generation.
Take a shot everyone time he says something is a trip.
You're a trip
Loved this video because it was something different. Thanks for all the great content, Jason!
I appreciate that!
My first ipod was the 5th gen, was perfect for college as you could plug it in and use it as an external hard drive. No losing thumb drives plus I could listen to music while I worked. Eventually the battery exploded on it, but it had a good run.
"Greetings and Welcome to another MJR thing"
As a game fan AND an iPod collector, this video is PERFECTION! You should definitely flash mod that 1st gen!
Nothing like plugging in your old Ipod and going through ur playlists from 15 yrs ago. Aahh the nostalgia lol
Lovin' the Local H love in your playlists! Such an underrated band!
They are!
"this is pretty much the one that launched apple into who they are today''
Macintosh and Apple II: am I joke to you?
G3 iMac. iPod. iPhone. Jony Ive.
That was old Apple, before Jobs came back. They were on the brink of irrelevance. There’s a direct line from the iPod to the iPhone, then to iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and the new M1 Mac. So.. yeah. The first Apple products are about as relevant to Apple as a company today as hunting gear is to modern-day Abercrombie and Fitch.
First gen iPod nano 2 gig black model was a godsend to 14 year old me. Still have it somewhere
Same!
Same.
@@happyshabbygames lost mine, but the battery crapped out a very long time ago anyway
I got one too that was black with a chrome back. The front was like shiny black glass. I still have it with box in new condition but it has my name etched on it by Apple. What was weird is like 8 years ago there was a recall on them and they would of sent me a new one but I was like nah I want the first gen one cause they looked better to me.
How much?? Lol put it on eBay!!
Yeah man, I had an iPod shuffle and still do, you are right, these things are quite usefull and fun to collect, I will start collecting them because of your video! Rock on dude!
Since 2008 my family have an iPod Classic always plug in our car, sometimes it freezes but a quick reset makes it back in business

I love this man! My first ipod was also the third gen. one! I sold it at one point but to be honest, I shouldn't have done that. It's still an excellent machine. Great design too.
03:30 check Dankpods here on UA-cam he is a extremly funny guy and shows how replace the battery and HDD with a new one and SD Card modules. There are a ton of possibilities for the iPod.
You can even put micro SD cards into an iPod

Not an apple fanboy, but the iPod was a trendsetter for more reasons that just playing MP3s. For one, it looked good, which you really can't say for the Zune.

As I told you on Twitter I still use my 160GB iPod Classic in my car. It's a 2011 car with a USB plug especially for iPod. Even if there is also the Bluetooth I'm super happy to go "old school" and the iPod works like a charm. 😬🤘
You told me it was coming man! This was absolutely amazing
Never before have so many lithium fire futures been gathered in a single place
I have a 2nd gen Nano I haven't touched in years, but it was an amazing device. It was a couple years before I got my first smartphone, so a portable device for music and video was an amazing thing. I watched SO many movies and shows on that little screen! I'm super nostalgic about that device.
I picked up a 7th gen Nano last year- it’s actually one of my favourite pieces of tech that I own
You aren’t nuts you are brilliant. Love these old ipods. Wish you could still by the 1st gen but just a thinner profile. I don’t like the iPod touch.
I had the 3rd Gen 20gb model. Loved it so so much. I even replaced the battery when it started to fail. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.
Awesome video. The only iPods I ever had were the iPod Nano Gen 5 and iPod Touch Gen 4. Loved em both. Great memories there.
To answer the question of your title: Yes.
But that's also why I've been a subscriber for 5+ years
Apple stuff will always be collectable especially from the Steve Jobs era. iPods were cool
From the dialogue at 1:11 to the scene where you're walking is a man on a mission. LOL
My first MP3 player was actually a Sansa, and it was so horrible that I returned it two days later and purchased a 3rd generation Nano, which was my first Apple product. It was such a natural fit and then two years later in 2010 I upgraded to the 5th generation Nano and still use it today. Even bought a second one. I just like having a dedicated music player and these little iPods are seriously awesome little machines. Great video!
I love the idea of having specific genres/playlists on each iPod!
That reminds me of the movie Baby Driver. He did the same thing.
Still funny there was an ad back in the day announcing an "iTouch Kids" device.
Would have been hilarious if they ever did that...
Still use my 160g classic. Love that thing, 48,000 songs and counting. I just shuffle all songs and go, awesome for road trips / long motorcycle rides
Gone through about 4 3rd gen nanos, 2 4th gen and just bought a classic on ebay. Easy to use, no ads to sit through like on things such as UA-cam music and as you said great for the car. Good nostalgic video 👍
Still using the fifth generation one for jogging! It’s so light!
oh my god! 00:19 seconds in you're watching Deadly Sinners by 3 Inches of Blood!!! Metal
What an awesome collection! I started off with the 1GB shuffle white stick thing and then graduated to an iPod Classic Video that I had for years and years. I eventually sold it, kind of regret it as it served me very well through high school and helped me get into gaming podcasts when they were emerging as well as a way to watch X Play video reviews before I could watch them online anywhere (from Australia).
I still have my original square Ipod from 2007 that I use in my car. It has all my music from those high school years all the way until 3-4 years ago! It's great to go back and enjoy and is in the car all the time ready to go :)
This is one of the many reasons why Metal Jesus Rocks
...is awesome.
i've gotten so addicted to the point where i own around 100 of the damn things
I totally identified with this video @MetalJesusRocks ! When I bought my 2011 VW GTI Wolfsburg Edition it came with the old iPod connector as well and I started using a 4th Gen Nano as my car music collection. It is still in there to this day!
GTIs are pretty fun to drive, right? Love my car.
Yeah, I relate to your enthusiasm for collecting iPods, the pleasing shapes and vibrant colors are compelling. Also, finding other peoples eclectic interests, even if you end up wiping them, is great way to practice open-mindedness. A perfect use for a small shuffle is to set the iTunes synch to randomize, so you use your entire library as a stock for your random daily or weekly commuter musical experience. The song pairings often blow my mind, sometimes I make a playlist based on a random set from a shuffle. Like George Harrison's "Dream Away" from the Time Bandits Soundtrack > Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit"> Dead Milkmen's "Punk Rock Girlfriend." There is some AD/HD manic/depressive right there. Of course there are days where you ask yourself "Do I really like the Bloodhound Gang and Tchikovsky THAT much?"
I still have my apple ipod with a butt load of music still on it and I still use it to this very day lmfao music is life
I still used my IPod 4 Touch for my Spotify but about 2 weeks ago they ended support for it finally and I have no use for it.
I still have my 3rd gen iPod (it was first ever iPod I owned) and I inherited an iPod Video and iPod Shuffle. I still love them and use them. Funny enough, my iPod Shuffle still had music from when I was a teenager...Man has my taste changed. Haha. Great video! Really brought back some great memories. :)
I remember getting my iPod touch for Christmas 2007 and me and my brother were so excited we found where our parents hid our presents and unboxed the iPod touches we got and played with them for a couple hours then put them back in the box and went to sleep lol
Everyone: Collectng iPods.
Me: Enjoying my Zune.
Seems like you got in at the right time lol
The 1st gen shuffle was great at the time back in 2005. I had the 1gb version and having 240 songs on the go, with a battery that lasted 15 hours + and that fitted in the coin pocket of my jeans was so useful when out and about. iTunes at the time had two features which I think have long gone now: you could make playlists from the music on the shuffle when it wasn’t actually connected to your computer and then it would randomly select one and fill the shuffle next time it was plugged it. The other feature was that every time you plugged in to charge it it would clear all the songs and automatically upload fully with random songs. It really made sure you got through your collection if you were commuting!
Just look at all the comments/ memories/ joy this video sparked….nice job.
Saw the thumbnail and thought "that's crazy, why would you do it?"
Ended the video looking for ipods on sale
well, with yesterday's announcement, you could be sitting on a gold mine
When I fired up the new metal Jesus video about iPods I never expected to see myself in an old music video toward the beginning of the video playing on one of the iPods. Stoked you played an old 3 inches of blood video! Especially as a long time watcher of your channel.
This video was informative, as there were models I either didn't know, or forgot, existed. I skipped out of the original classic iPods, and didn't get an actual ipod until the 2nd gen touch which went bust after more than a decade (got a LOT of use out of it). Recently purchased a 5th gen iPod video at a resonable price, and think it's a great device. Really like the idea of using different iPods for different music!
For the longest time I used to use (still have it) a “Classic” with a decent sized drive. Could put my entire collection on that thing. Was great even as I started getting iPhones since their storage wasn’t even close to the iPod.
Now I mostly use my collection synced with the cheap Match service since I’ve never found a decent replacement for Apple’s smart playlists.
For example, did you know Plex doesn’t use all the metadata available???? If you have a collection from 2000, of 80s/90s music from an artist and have everything tagged “correctly” (each song with its original release date), Plex only looks at the album and a smart playlist of, let’s say, 80s stuff, won’t work.
/end rant
Good old times when apple was cool and innovative.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Pulled out my 3rd gen iPod and have it on charge right now. The one aspect that stops me from using it more often is that it needs to be charged over Firewire. While you can plug it in via USB for data transfer, it won't charge via any USB connection. When I first got it, it was not a problem. These days it's a bit more inconvenient.
I also used to have a 1st gen Shuffle. Was awesome to keep in your pocket on the go as it was so light. Unfortunately I had it in a jacket pocket and that jacket was stolen at a party many years ago.
I have a MK7 GTI but tend to use either bluetooth from my phone or a handful of SD cards I have loaded with music.
This was fun an educational! Never seen the 3th gen iPod Shuffle and I never knew that they are still selling the iPod Touch!
Yeah.. you need to meet dankpods
In a lot of ways an IPod is better then listening to music on your phone.
Agreed. I can't stand using my phone for my music in the car!
It's better in every way
Love it, these brought back memories. I was also late to the party. I was gifted a 2008 I pod touch. This was my gateway to my first I phone in 2009😎
Excellent review of an outstanding iPod collection! Since most of your iPods are different models, I can say for sure that you are not Nuts (just a collector). When in 2014, I got my current automobile new it came with a classic iPod port. So, I said to myself let me buy on Ebay the oldest version of an iPod classic that does music, photos, and video that will also operate properly with my new car. Which, I found out happen to be an iPod classic 5th generation and, I have been enjoying it ever since. In addition, I use mine daily and, I am currently own my second replacement battery (smile...smile).
Damn it, I've been trying to resist collecting old cell phones and this making it seem like a less crazy idea.
Yes, yes you are nuts. You’ve got enough stuff you haven’t touched without collecting something else

I actually do the same thing in my car but with 120g iPod Classics. I have three of them: 1 with all my Rock, 1 with R&B, Funk and Hip Hop and 1 with Jazz and Soundtracks. Those things are nearly indestructible and I don't have to fidget with playlists or connections. They are just ready to go. And battery life is back to insane levels after swapping the old with new ones.
