This is brilliant, thank you! It would never have occurred to me to loosen the nut rather than tighten it. Your approach solved a problem I’ve been living with for months now. Thanks again!
Thank you very much. I will definitely try it for sure coz I’m having leakage and my tyre is flat within two days of pumping air. Simple and great guidance video.👌
You da' man! Just fixed my rig that I had been procrastinating with. So glad to not have to pump it up before every ride and not having to eyeball the tire on long rides...THANK YOU! :D
I've been changing rim tape and adding more sealant and throwing tools for days now and this fixed the issue in a matter of seconds. Hats off to you, sir! One other thing I did to help (maybe not even necessary) was to hold the rim with the valve at the bottom to let all the sealant settle there, then quickly flip it 180 degrees so the sealant can accumulate around the valve bed, then jiggle quickly.
And I’ll add to the thumbs up for this - spent 2 hours messing about (literally!) with tyres off, adjusting tape, different types of rubber seals…! Then tried this in my lunch break. 3 minutes and voila! Likely didn’t have enough sealant in tyre to plug it but a good top up and shake around has done it. Saved much angst/stress/divorce! 👍🏻😉
Thank you so much for this video. I had a slow leak in my front tire and couldn’t locate the source until I used your method. It turned out to be a faulty valve.
Great video. It took me 5 previous videos before I came across yours. Even one of the stem company videos did not even show their valve being inserted. No talk whatsoever regarding stem leakage. Your video did the trick for me. Thank you!
I haven’t bumped in to any of your video or store items for years and am so happy you are still out there. I thought you had SOLD! I will be checking your store again. Btw this video was quite helpful.
i have the same exact problem right now. My fingers hurt from tightening the valve seat so much, I thought of using the sealant to troubleshoot the problem but I got lost in my frustration and impatience. I'm gonna do this method tomorrow! Thanks for this!
I'm brand new to tubeless and just got a new wheel on warranty from the manufacturer. It was leaking at the base of the stem and I was just about to grab the pliers when I thought, I better check on this. Thanks so much. Took about 30 seconds to fix and no bike parts were harmed in the correction of this leak. Thanks.
So simple and explained without all the hub bub ... thank you! ... I could not get it to leak around the tubeless valve but I going off that impression any way ... loosened my valve and made it leak and let the wheel spin up and reseal it then tightened it back down... will see if after my 80 miles roundtrip commute if that puts this annoying leak to rest not sure how much sealant the shop put in each of my tires but before I just go adding more I'll try this ... as seriously having to add air to my tires each week is frustrating and I already air'd the tires up to 115 psi to ensure they were seated properly before to no luck ... always dislike when I don't get that reassuring pop of the bead seating...
@@Neil.C57510 The valve stem was the issue in this video. The seat of the valve stem didn't have a good seal. If the rim tape is bad it will leak from the spokes. Usually the rim tape will be fine and won't start leaking on its own unless it was damaged in the process of removing and replacing a tire. I did that installing mine last time and I had to take it back apart to fix the rim tape. The valve stem and rim tape are two separate issues unless the rim tape is punctured right at the location of the valve stem.
Great tip! First, my LBS "forgot" to put sealant in my tires... Afterwards I still had some slow leaking so turned my valve nuts tight as crazy 🤣 - it did help on one wheel... now if I get this right its third time lucky (I hope).
@@velotiqueBetterWatchSaul Yes it worked, but what I found out was that the previous bike owner didn't have sealent in the tyre. Once I put sealent in the tyre it stopped leaking air.
When you say "using the actual sealant in your tyre," does this mean I don't need to buy sealant and add it myself? Just rotate the wheel around the existing sealant in the tyre will run around and cover? I don't understand, wouldn't it be set already?
Thank you! I did tubeless conversion for first time and my front wheel was perfect with no leaks first attempt the back wheel did 3x put new tape and its still leaking around the valve. Will use this trick tommorow. Another question. I still have to put sealant in my tyres. I see videos of people shaking the wheel laying it on the side etc. Does it also work to just go for a ride directly after putting the sealant in?
@@velotiqueBetterWatchSaul the trick with the sealant around valve stem worked great been over a week since I ride my bike and think pressure is still the same!
Another trick to eliminate this problem is to apply a little rubber cement around the rubber part of the stem before poking it through the rim. This seals against the stem and tape so it won't leak.
Wow - this worked like a charm!. Love your content and calm, clear presentation style, BTW. You’re like the Bob Ross of bike repair.
Wow, thanks!
Man, this was the best advice I have received for this problem. Thank you.
Thank you, my friend. I'm new to tubeless and I couldn't figure out why the heck my tyres were deflating overnight. This solved it straight away 👍👍
I'm glad. Thank you for sharing.
Just wanna register another "thanks". Valve was leaking, couldn't fix, resorted to watching videos on UA-cam - THIS trick worked. Finally!
This is so helpful! I just fitted 4 tubeless tyres. 2 of them were flat one day later. This video is a game changer!
This is brilliant, thank you!

Thank you, this advise saved me. Not even my local bike shop could figure this out.
You're welcome!
They won’t tell us because they need business from consumers. 😂
Maybe they didn't see the video.

It was either add lubricant to the valve to make it seal, or sealant. I chose sealant and so glad I did. Thanks a whole bunch!

Thanks man! I just kept tightening the valve figuring that would solve the problem. Never thought of this, and it makes sense!
Glad I could help

Can't wait to try this. My leaky tires are the biggest reason I don't get out on my bike.

So far Tubeless tires are a pain in my butt. They keep losing air, sometimes slow and sometimes fast and never leaking out sealant...wtf.
right on. good reminder to search for the source. thank you
Yep, that was exactly the issue. Thank you
Thanks a lot. Saved me a lot of headache.
Glad it helped!
This method has worked perfectly for me in the past. Except tonight with a new Reserve wheel out of the box.
Thank you for reminding us that sometimes the correct way to do something is the least intuitive :)
Absolutely!
Thanx for the video. I was just tightening.
I've been trying to solve this problem for years!
thank you very much sir ,because of you i saved some of my bucks

Fixed my slow leak! They would deflate over night but couldn't see any leaks. They stayed overnight.
Thanks so much! I was worried air was leaking out and pressurising the carbon tub of my wheel and I would have to re tape it

You Sir are a genius
Thank you. I'm glad you found it informative.
awesome! I'm going to go try this. Exactly my problem, and it didn't help to tighten the nut

I believe i tighten Mine too much. so this is the key. Thanks.
I have checked my wheels with tires installed. I do not see any leaks with water testing. However, i still need to pump them almost every two weeks.
Many thanks kind sir

What if the slow leak isn't around the valve though, but (like mine) on the rim itself? Any suggestions?
Earlier in the comments Ben Leader (8 months ago) had a suggestion.
Magical
Another trick to eliminate this problem is to apply a little rubber cement around the rubber part of the stem before poking it through the rim. This seals against the stem and tape so it won't leak.
