This method is a lifesaver, I had spent nearly 2 hours of trying to pump up my rear tire with a small-ish floor pump, and I wasn't having any luck at all. I was about to go to the shop until I stumbled across this video, I seated half of the tire with my tire lever, pumped as hard as I could and BANG the other half seated like magic. If anyone is wondering whether to try it, trust me it works unlike many other tubeless installation videos. Thanks a lot to both of you.

I really struggled getting the second side to seat without unseating the first side on my gravel wheels with 25mm inside rim width, but once I finally got the first tire done the second was a breeze! Thank you so much for the fantastic instructional vid Syd.

Tubeless works so well, its nice to see a guide for the average rider at home! I set my tubeless system up with tubes for a couple weeks, before my sealant arrived. After I removed the tube and added the sealant and stem, I was able to seat the bead with a floor pump first try, front and rear! Having that tube in there to help shape the tire and bead to the rim seems to have helped quite a bit! The tire lever trick looks like a great way to dodge having a tube in there for weeks! Sometimes the tire needs to get mounted immediately!

THANK YOU!!! I was about to give up on tubeless. My Bontrager XR4 on Line 30 wheels and TLR rim strips was so tight it seemed impossible even with a flash can (all that Bontrager stuff should work great together, right? Nope). But seating the tire halfway around on both sides did the trick! Yours were the ONLY videos I saw with that "secret" tip, and I watched a lot of them. My sanity has been restored!

I just had to drop a comment to tell you both that this trick saved my ass. I fit some new Rene Herse Switchback Hills on my tourer since my old SBH's had run out of life, and while the old tires went up easily and without problem, the new ones were simply too loose to inflate. CO2, my tubeless chamber pump, nothing would seat them. I tried ratchet straps, I tried soapy water, I threw another layer of tape on the wheels. No dice. I tried this trick and it took me a couple of times to get the hang of it, but once I did it went up perfectly and easily. Went to the next wheel, nailed it first try. Thanks for the extremely clear and well shot video.
To anyone having issues with this trick, if your tires' beads are super difficult to get around all the way, the critical part is ensuring that you have both sides of the bead at the valve core well seated. I was able to get by with only about 8 inches of bead on both sides of the rim and then hit it with my floor pump and it popped right on.

Outstanding! I've always struggled getting tires inflated after unseating the tire beads either removing one side of a tire to fill it with Stans or today replacing entire tires with new ones. Your trick of using the tire irons to get the bead in place and removing the valve stems totally worked. What normally would have been a frustrating day turned into a fun 20 min.

Thank you so much for this video! It helped me do my first replacement of the back tire of my gravel bike. Granted, at first I was regretting my decision to have tubeless tires, but everything worked out in the end! Also, as a woman myself, I was happy to find a bike video where a woman was doing the repairs. Not all riders are strong guys that can just pop those tire on and off! :)

I can’t thank you enough for this video. I was at my wits end trying to seat a set of gravelkings. Worked like a charm, still had to use a compressor for the initial bead but I got it done!

Absolutely splendid! I wondered whether this would also work with a road tyre and tried fitting a 30mm Pro One TLE on my new dynamo wheel. It was strenuous and I only got around one third either side but it worked immediately! There wasn't even a hiss and the tyre seated fully with a minor pop.
Thanks a lot the two of you and keep up the good work! 👍

OMG what a lifesaver! I have a compressor and have used it to seat tires on rims several times - no problem. I just got new rims and I could not for the life of me get the tires to seat. This video just happened to be at the top of my suggested vids list when I got on to see if I could find some help. It took me a couple of tries to get the balance between getting enough of the bean manually seated and going too far and having it slip back in the channel but I finally got enough manually seated, hit it with the compressor and got the BANG, BANG of a fully seated tire.
Thanks so much for this. I really like this channel BTW. Very down to earth and unpretentious. Well done.

Thanks guys. This advice saved me! I have a new set up with baggy fitting tyres and Fulcrum's weird hookless system. I wrestled for two days trying to get a seal on the beads. O.M.G.!!! I was so skeptical, AND, not wanting to have to have a compressor. I thought there was no way my 59 year-old, super-abused and arthritic CMC and thumb joints could do this. BUT, worth a try! Once I figured out to go just little bits at a time with the lever during the pre-seating, all the struggle was over! The beads on my 27.5 Maxxis seated with maybe 30 pumps on the Joe Blow. Holy Cow - life changing! THANK YOU!!!

This is totally working! Thank you for amazing video and tips, it worked the first time on both wheels! :-) With tire tool that I have it was very difficult to pull the tire, it slips off. So tried and noticed that if you manage to seat the tire 20cm around the valve on both sides it's enough to inflate it. I guess top priority is to seal around the valve so that it doesn't bleed out right away.

Such a good video! Another trick in addition to this is at first put a tube in and seat the tire. Then deflate and only unseat one side as you remove the tube. Then start your tubeless install with one side already 100% seated.

I've been using Race Face ARC 35 rims and Maxxis tires and they work REALLY well together using this method. I don't even need to make sure the hook and bead are that close to each other before trying to add air. A high volume pump also makes it easier, as previously mentioned.
