Misspoke at the soul dew section. The soul dew was nerfed in gen 7, not 5. Thanks for brian hands for correcting me on mewtwo. I didn't play gen 2 comp.
Berserk Gene is the most double-edged item ever. I've played GSC OU on Showdown and while it's not common, I have come across some rogue Tyranitar, Machamp, and Heracross who used the item with a heavy amount of luck on their side; like geez I don't know if the Lord just wanted them to win some of those games, I had my a*s handed to me.
Small correction: the gems aren't a 50% boost anymore; they got nerfed to just 30%. With that in mind, they're really not that strong, and I think it would be totally okay to add them back. It's bizarre that they were left in the games, even adding the fairy gem, but for some reason they only let us get the normal gem. That's even stranger than if we couldn't get any Also, "we should explain what a mega stone is for newer Pokemon fans" dealt immense psychic damage to me. Ow
I think the Normal Gem is usable because it’s the one type that can’t do super-effective damage. Having one less possible damage multiplier on it probably makes more reasonable to keep than for other Type Gems.
I think the berserk gene is neat specifically because it has a very special confusion which guaranteed lasts for 256 turns, as opposed to the standard random 1-4.
I will say that Light that Burns the Sky can only be used on Ultra Necrozma. So animating a special move for one Pokemon is easier to do with 3D rigging than a generic move that many Pokemon can get. Combine that with the fact that many Pokemon have different 3D structures from one another makes it harder to animate a move for all of them. They could have put in some work, but it's kinda hard to compare apples to oranges
@@baeruttgaming4779It would have been easier if Gen 6 didn't replace all the 3D models used since Stadium and updated through to Pokédex 3D Pro, though.

I think if gems were announced (like "Heatran floating on an air balloon", but "Volcarona is holding a grass gem") and maybe the 30% like the normal gem is they'd probably be decent, but as they were in gen 5 they were way overpowered.
Z moves that powered up status moves were actually really fun and unique. If they would’ve kept z moves and only left in the special attacks for specific Pokémon and the ones that boost status moves they would’ve been a lot more fun.
The thing gamefreak did with the gems was so weird, it seems that in the beginning the gems were meant to be part of the game, they even created a new fairy gem but then they nerferd the gems making them essentially useless in the vast majority of cases, but then they doubled down essentially deleting the gems of the game by making the gems absolutely unobtainable, all except of the normal gen for some reason.
Fun fact about the Berserk Gene, it’s not completely forgotten! It’s properties of giving Pokémon immense strength but making them lose control is what inspired the Detective Pikachu games and the movie!
RE: Gems, I think we may see their return sooner than later. If we get some sort of Unova remake, we could easily see the Gems show up in those games as the gimmick. Even more interesting, Indigo Disk reportedly takes place in the Unova Region (albeit on an offshore Academy), so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to reintroduce them. However, I’d be terrified of the idea of combining Gems and Tera, that feels like a recipe for disaster

Gigantimax is cool in it’s own right and terra type is lame but fun for vgc but there was something so special about mega evolution. Berserk Gene doesn’t only work on Mewtwo. I think the real reason this item was removed was so that it couldn’t be abused on Pokemon with Own Tempo. Honestly, though, none of the physical Own Tempo Pokemon are that good anyways, especially in Gen 3, so it wouldn’t even be that broken. And besides, they could just make it not work if the Pokemon can’t be confused. This would be a cool item to have back
For non VGC players you're one of the best content creator in Competitive Pokémon... Gems have 3 problem that make it broken for single players: 1. They dont waste on protect so you can scout for them 2. You can have multiple on a team unlike zmoves/megas 3. They boost every hit on multi hit moves. So normal gen Population Bomb is basically a 450 attack after all multipliers
I was about to leave a confused comment about why you were hyper-focused on the viability of Berserk Gene on Mewtwo until Brian Hands came in with the correction. Thank you Brian Hands.
Bro mega evo fans just says 'just make a mega for every mon, they can do 15-50 every generation' and at the idea of a generic stat boost mega is just 'thats just dynamax' which it isnt at all but lol, assuming 'they make 100+ mons per gen' means they will just have an entire gen and soon have a mega for every fully evolved pokemon. They also dont get the strongest megas would matter more and many megas can change an identity just a bit so it isn't like you often get more of the same mon you like.
Should've mentioned Mail in Gen 3 and 4. Useless little letters that you could write some predetermined words in, but they couldn't be knocked off or traded with Trick .
If you think about it, the Berserk Gene has “come back” in the form of Booster Energy. The designs are similar and it’s an instantly consumed boosting item.
Gems don't look that bad...until you remember they boost multi-hit moves. As in all of them, even on a skill link 'mon And some already have 125 total power if all hits connect
I have always thought that with some tweaking, the berserk gene should have been turned into Mewtwos signature ability. Maybe it could sharply boost both attacking stats when Mewtwo is inflicted with a status or something like that. Really I would take almost anything over pressure/unnerve.
In an ideal world where this isn't unrealistic and the game doesn't need to cut a million corners, I think it'd be cool to see mega stones and Z-crystals come back in a game that lets you travel to Kalos and Alola, among other regions... but endless other people have already suggested such a game and we all know why it ain't happening, so I'll just keep dreaming and enjoy using those items casually in stuff like Emerald Rogue instead lmao
One correction on the berserk gene: this works on ANY Pokémon, not just mewtwo. So it could have a niche. A dodrio, for example, would get the attack increase and a speed increase due to tangling feet Edit: oh thanks Brian Hands for the correct
The Berserk Gene could come back for Mewtwo no problem. Make it an exclusive item to him and have it work more like Booster Energy. It gives Mewtwo a base stat boost to either its Attack or Special Attack, based on which is higher (and then the item would disappear). Heck the icon for the Berserk Gene & the one for Booster Energy, even look similar.
The biggest L about these items being gone Is the fact we don't have the hardest names to ever come out of this series Berserk Gene Light That Burn's The Sky
Probably a obvious but yah, me and my brother used to talk about a supposed mew three and such. I think that's why mega's so popular too. Like that so many of us as kids would make all these ridiculous next level pokemon that it relates to unspoken canon we all secretly wanted. And i still love mega blastoise and such. Looks boss asf.
Brian Hands will: Do your dishes Pay your taxes Live hits he shouldn’t legally be allowed to Make minor corrections What would we do without you, Brian Hands?
The funniest part about the Berserk Gene is that it was programmed for wild Mewtwo to hold it in gen 2, but encountering Mewtwo isn't possible in those games. Not only that, but Mewtwo would consume the Berserk Gene instantly, so you wouldn't even be able to get it from it.
You learn something new every day I could’ve sworn the sold you just increases the special attack or special defense. Depending on which Pokémon was holding it.
A simple change to balance the Berserk Gene would be to make it so it confused the user regardless of any field effects or abilities. Kind of like a Mold Breaker/Levitate effect.
If I had to give Mewtwo an signature item it would be an carriable Compound Eyes. Because in gen 1 Blizzard used to be broken, and running these moves with such stats would be cool
It's kind of strange to me that Berserk Gene never came back considering that it was a major plot point in both the Detective Pikachu games and its movie adaptation. You'd think after that, they'd throw it into the next game, but apparently not.
The berserk gene should be revamped as raising the Pokemon attack or special attack stat depending on which is higher and also confusing them , if this became a thing own tempo Pokemon would always run this

But I was also truly prepared to figure that I must have just been stupid and not noticed it wasn't working back at that age!
Man you and the editor are killing this one.
Berserk gene would go hard with Misty Terrain if you could find a good setter. Unburden mons like Hawlucha and Sneasler would go crazy.
With Hawlucha and Sneasler I always like using a Weakness Policy with Endure and Reversal/ Acrobatics with Tera Fighting/Tera Flying, respectively eith Unburden. Which is busted in of itself. With the Berserk Gene, I wouldn't even need to run Endure to take a Super Effective move.
@@sperryyoungerjr.3985"busted" 😂 ok kid ever heard of priority or rocky helmet or hazards or protection
@jordantatata155 Those are counters, which is why pairing this strat with a Psychic Surge mon, such as Indeedee will help with priority, and as for Rocky Helmet. I suppose that is the one true counter. Perhaps pairing it with Long Reach Alolan Decidueye or something with a Punching Glove/ Protective Pads could help. But, yes it is busted, kid.
@@sperryyoungerjr.3985 clearly not when youve listed a load of things that beat it XD broken or using your idiotic phrasing "busted" means unbalanced or overbearing when it isn't even close to that XD clearly someone doesn't know what terms mean. Go read a book or two
@jordantatata155 I see we have a troll here. By busted I mean in terms of the damage it can deal and the team support that can be run with it as I stated prior, which can make absolutely broken when used correctly, so you go read a book or two.
You missed the iconic Brick that Machop transferred from gen 1 to 2 hold that did nothing, have you no shame?
Use it with Fling and it becomes a base 500 power Rock move
I hope to see more of Professor Brian Hands in the future. I am very informed. I miss the gems, they're so pretty

@@jvbon646 it's porygon-zover for the meta

Okay but that thumbnail. I love that juicing up on Mewtwo enrages you just like its owner.
Personally I would love if they brought back Megas but if they incorporated them only into either remakes or non mainline titles. Gigantimax is cool in it’s own right and terra type is lame but fun for vgc but there was something so special about mega evolution. It felt like a natural evolution for the franchise and was only a problem because they focused boosting already powerful pokemon and just making megas waayyyyy too strong that it left you required to use them
well they kinda still exist in that way, from time to time masters adds a sync pair with mega abailable
@@giltral7804 huh I had no idea, I never played masters. I recently got back into Pokemon Go and have been super excited at the Mega announcements so im curious what they will do once they eventually run out of Megas to release.
Super cool to know they appear in Masters as well
Nah, they should prove they are not cowards and include all the gen gimmicks in mainline game and let chaos ensue.
i agree with this idea in general but your icon is driving me nuts imagining chris hansen the vgc fan

Little cup players in shambles because Berry Juice isn't in the game
Berserk Gene doesn’t only work on Mewtwo. I think the real reason this item was removed was so that it couldn’t be abused on Pokemon with Own Tempo. Honestly, though, none of the physical Own Tempo Pokemon are that good anyways, especially in Gen 3, so it wouldn’t even be that broken. And besides, they could just make it not work if the Pokemon can’t be confused. This would be a cool item to have back
For non VGC players you're one of the best content creator in Competitive Pokémon...
Gems have 3 problem that make it broken for single players:
1. They dont waste on protect so you can scout for them
2. You can have multiple on a team unlike zmoves/megas
3. They boost every hit on multi hit moves. So normal gen Population Bomb is basically a 450 attack after all multipliers
Gem is only 30% boost now though. And the chance getting 10 hit on 90% move is hard. Gem probably can come back as it no longer 50% boost
I was about to leave a confused comment about why you were hyper-focused on the viability of Berserk Gene on Mewtwo until Brian Hands came in with the correction. Thank you Brian Hands.
The Brian Hands bit killed me
Heatran as a grass type is the most annoying thing to face if you don’t have anything with a flying typing on your team
WAIT BRIAN HANDS COME BACK PLS DO MY TAXES 😭😭😭
Bro mega evo fans just says 'just make a mega for every mon, they can do 15-50 every generation' and at the idea of a generic stat boost mega is just 'thats just dynamax' which it isnt at all but lol, assuming 'they make 100+ mons per gen' means they will just have an entire gen and soon have a mega for every fully evolved pokemon. They also dont get the strongest megas would matter more and many megas can change an identity just a bit so it isn't like you often get more of the same mon you like.
BRIAN HANDS WAS FREAKING HILARIOUS LMFAOO
Every Pokémon can use Berserk Gene
EDIT: I kept watching and Brian Hands showed up to correct
Keep watching

Imagine if Beserk Gene gave Mewtwo a +1 Sp.Atk on switch in similar to Zacian
Should've mentioned Mail in Gen 3 and 4. Useless little letters that you could write some predetermined words in, but they couldn't be knocked off or traded with Trick .
Smh my man didn't even bring up the goated gen 2 BRICK
As a bug monotype player, yes. Give us the bug gem. A bug gem boosted megahorn sounds wonderful 😊
If you think about it, the Berserk Gene has “come back” in the form of Booster Energy. The designs are similar and it’s an instantly consumed boosting item.
Honestly, they nerfed Soul Dew too damn hard. It should've been a recoiless Life Orb, imo
The Gen 9 OU council if Gems get added back in (they were struggling to balance the tier as is): 🫤
everyone talks about the anger gene or whatever it is being broken with own tempo pokemon.
it probably wouldnt activate without confusing you.
imagine a world where slither wing gets to fire off a helping hand-protosynthesis-bug gem-tera boosted first impression
Gems don't look that bad...until you remember they boost multi-hit moves.
As in all of them, even on a skill link 'mon
And some already have 125 total power if all hits connect
"Imagine getting hit by a +2 Gigaton Hammer" I mean, it'd save me a step in my Swords Dance Tink build, I guess.
I have always thought that with some tweaking, the berserk gene should have been turned into Mewtwos signature ability. Maybe it could sharply boost both attacking stats when Mewtwo is inflicted with a status or something like that. Really I would take almost anything over pressure/unnerve.
We really need some Brian Hands or I am wo-chienough merch. I would get either one
We love Brian Hands. Would they be kind enough to share their EV spread?
Congrats on 100k subs, great video btw.
I think it would be cool if Berserk Gene did not confuse Mewtwo or Mew. After all, it is their genes, why would it confuse them?
Because it makes them go berserk.
The correction on berserk gene was funny, the non understanding of it being a signature
One correction on the berserk gene: this works on ANY Pokémon, not just mewtwo. So it could have a niche. A dodrio, for example, would get the attack increase and a speed increase due to tangling feet
Edit: oh thanks Brian Hands for the correct
Ptrry sure Tangling Feet is an Evasion Raise, not speed
@@ObziLuky ah, you’re correct, MB
The Berserk Gene could come back for Mewtwo no problem. Make it an exclusive item to him and have it work more like Booster Energy. It gives Mewtwo a base stat boost to either its Attack or Special Attack, based on which is higher (and then the item would disappear). Heck the icon for the Berserk Gene & the one for Booster Energy, even look similar.
1:25 The Berserk Gene design is incredibly similar to the Booster Energy design
Real gamers will remember the brick held item
I'd love to see Poison Gem for Sneasler. Yeah, it's not the best type, but it could be clutch for Dire Claw
The biggest L about these items being gone Is the fact we don't have the hardest names to ever come out of this series
Berserk Gene
Light That Burn's The Sky
4:20 “I have to get back to living hits I don’t have business living… and doing taxes” 😂
Beserk Gene can be used on Pokemon other than Mewtwo, and would be pretty busted with Unburden.
more so with a pokémon that had own tempo. edit: sorry hadn’t got to brian hands part when i wrote this post
4:25 holy shit he referenced my meme! He does the dishes, drives your kids to school does your taxes what can it not do?
We love brian hands fixing all of moxie's mistakes
Dang Brian Hands is working on his taxes early. Unless he's self employed and has to file quarterly actually.
What if the Berserk Gene worked like Huge Power but as an item?
Physical attacker meta
Brian Hands will:
Do your dishes
Pay your taxes
Live hits he shouldn’t legally be allowed to
Make minor corrections
What would we do without you, Brian Hands?
alright check this out
• [Pokèmon] comes in with Berserk Gene, item gets used
• partner Oranguru's Symbiosis kicks in, gives Mewtwo the Persim Berry
The gen 2 games don't have Mewtwo available (the only way is to trade it from gen 1) but the Berserk Gene is the item from where Mewtwo used to be.
Somewhere in my head I was expecting Brian Hands to be voiced by Michael lol.
My personal stance on mega evos is that they should be exclusive to remakes.EX BDSP gave a few new mons megas but can only be used in that game
The funniest part about the Berserk Gene is that it was programmed for wild Mewtwo to hold it in gen 2, but encountering Mewtwo isn't possible in those games. Not only that, but Mewtwo would consume the Berserk Gene instantly, so you wouldn't even be able to get it from it.
imagine berserker gene + misty terrain that would be such a fun team style
You learn something new every day I could’ve sworn the sold you just increases the special attack or special defense.
Depending on which Pokémon was holding it.
the sold you💀
A simple change to balance the Berserk Gene would be to make it so it confused the user regardless of any field effects or abilities. Kind of like a Mold Breaker/Levitate effect.
We need more of that Brian Hands person on this channel, he seems to be a pretty swell guy with many responsibilities.
I could honestly see a collab with False Swipe Game and Moxie Boosted
Wish some of the mega forms for weaker Pokémon were just added as an evolution. Mawile, Altaria, Absol, Houndoom, Banette etc
8:04 And here I thought the Queen piece was the best one. Turns out I was wrong my whole life, and so were Chess players for 1500 years.
Good Guy Brian Hands
Berserk Gene would be funny with Tangled Feet
Absolutely cursed thumbnail please keep that energy going
