Complaining about single player is dumb..i dont know how long you have been playing fifa but its all sliders...you could see them in older fifas... so on ultimate all thats happening is user sliders get turned down and cpu sliders get turned up...my problem with the game is lag..and its only in higher divisions d10 never lags for example..also haven't played fifa since 20..i dont even have a system...i do miss squad building and pro clubs
After Fifa 22, i thought the AI couldnt be any more passive and stand-still, but boyyy was I wrong. No attacking runs, no movement when defending, and when a defender does move, it is to keep the attacker onside.

Last fifa I played was fifa 18, then I bought fifa 23, it was so frustrating i sold it away. And I play on next gen, but the gameplay just gets more unrealistic and unfairly scripted. Recently, being the biggest idiot in the universe, I bought FC 24 thinking the game improved. But, guess what.... I restrained myself from breaking the disc after playing it and sold it after a weeks 😂😂.

Having a monopoly on an entire genre is bad for the players. There's no incentive for EA to change especially with loot boxing. There's very little roster change and the same can be said of most yearly release sports/wrestling games
still remember on FIFA 09 to choose a sponsor for the whole season, only way to actually earn money aside transfers, since titles didn´t get you much. Upgrade infrastructure was so nice as well, good old times. MAN IM OLD
The conferences and post-match interviews are so stupid. Even if you won every single match and the team is 20 points ahead of the runner-up, they'll still ask if you think you can fight for the title... and immediately after they'll ask if your winning streak is going to continue...
Played for the first time since FIFA 13 and I was utterly astonished at how much defending has been downgraded. Positioning to defend a counter is next to impossible.
Totally agree with pretty much all points, it's a sham how they've programmed the game. On defense, the way it works is that players depending on their position (and some instructions, e.g. for fullbacks) have a certain box which they will move in. That box for CMs and CDMs ends way in front of the box, thus they don't help defend because they would have to step out of their box. This, depending on what's the game's meta, determines the most OP formations. Also a big issue is how inputs translate into in-game action. Say there is a shooting input, the game will then calculate, depending on input, player stats and positioning, the outcome and will play the matching animations. This results in a couple of things. Shots with good players but bad input result in questionable goals, good input with bad players ends in questionable misses, and passing is broken on the game. If the game determines that a pass will arrive, but the passing route is marked, the game will play the ball to a spot where the ball will arrive, making defending even more useless. You can anticipate passes perfectly and not end up with the ball. Everything so you need to spend that extra money on a better player. Infuriating as well is, how the game can turn hitboxes of players on and off as it likes. Balls going through players heads, bodies, feet etc. just so the calculated outcome can happen. I've scored and conceded goals after balls entirely passed somebody's torso. This also makes defending yet again more difficult, as players can freely take two steps on the same foot, cancel skill moves with both feet in the air, cancel the shot animation just to start another shot without taking a step in between, etc. Oh, and bounce backs.

Not only can you not defend overpowered players, somehow the keeper saves all your 15 shots while some scrub scores the same 3 goals, has to be a way you can have constant pressure without deading your whole team.
I remember way back in some ancient fifa like fifa 10 and previous to that, that i was able to search for transfer targets with potential as a parameter instead of having to go to some website to look up the wonderkids as now. I also remember that i was able to invest my money in career mode on upgrading club infrastructure like the stadium to increase revenue, or upgrading different staff members to train the squad better in certain areas like attacking or defending, rather than spending it on transfers. Given this is a memory from about 15 years ago im really bummed that EA havent been able to make a career mode as good as what was made so long ago. Back then i would play season after season, i remember getting to the point where all the teenage players of that edition had turned old and would need to get replace by randomly generated new talents in the pool. I dont think i have played two entire seasons on a career mode since then. And dont even get me started on the gameplay of fifa 23, the decisions that the AI make on behalf of defenders is literally the most unrealistic shit. You would find better defenders in the danish league 4. And why does my fullback stay in defence when i have the ball and he is set to participate in the attack and do overlaps! At this point it is not even a question, they are genuinly just fucking with us because they can.

I have fifa 21 (which is basically 22 and 23) and good lord is it that bad the screen that shows the news is messed up doesn't glow properly, nor shows player's face, the training is absloute bs when I simulate it it's always D no matter what, the international tournaments are sh1T as always how tf does pes a dead game make better tournaments even without a licensed right holding? In fifa career mode if you play the world cup Ho Ly Sh1T it's disgusting not only they can't get the games properly the stadiums they use are absloutely horrendous it's only 2 stadiums waldstadion (god I hate that stadium) and the olympic stadium whatever it's called yes it's only 2 stadiums and the latter is only used for the final, you would think that since they have the licensed rights they would actually do something but nooooo they had to stop caring I honestly get pissed off everytime I play because of how dumb this Sh1T is, if pes can make a better game with semi bad semi good gameplay and with few licensed rights you know you not only messed up but you're one of the worst game developers in the history of video games Not Even with the Humongus budget you got from scamming your own customers because they can't be asked to turn on their brain on and use actuall logic to make an atleast decent game Shame on you ea shame on you
My biggest gripe with this game is the near-comically inconsistent difficulty level. When I'm a top team facing off against a lower half side, I struggle big time. For some reason, they always put up a stalwart defence and hardly allow a single goalscoring opportunity. I do win these games most of the time, but it's always by very slim margins. Conversely, playing against top teams in the league and against top CL opposition, I find the difficulty level to be hilariously low. I can score 5-6 goals and keep a clean sheet with ease. It's just so fucking frustrating.
CPU intentionally moving the defenders out of position to cause an attacking play was evident in Fifa 17. I'm amazed anyone has the gall to say there is no scripting in this game. It wouldn't be half as bad if EA just admitted they can't code up proper gameplay physics and have to use those little scripting moments as a band-aid.
Thing is, I don't think it's scripted. I think it's just shit AI design. So often players run to where that defender should be on the pitch, assuming no one on their team is out of position or the other team is in their area with the ball. I always found it most noticeable with my outside defenders. If one of my CB's stepped up and missed an attempt on the ball, they would be about halfway between where they would normally be with all 4 defenders back, and the center lane the ball carrier was running down. Instead of them running to the middle of the pitch to cover the path the attacking player was likely to take, they would turn and start running back to where their position would normally be playing if all 4 defenders were back, which wasn't the case, and lead to me frantically trying to switch to them, as they were the only defender I could potentially make a play with. But by the time the AI ran 10ft away from the attacker's path towards the net, leaving me wildly out of position by the time I did switch to them (assuming the game switched me to the right one in the first try or two).
Oh, and my favorite bug I forgot about. Negotiating new contracts with players in the last year of their contracts, then having the players leave, because the game didn't update their contract information, but when I tried to negotiate a new one, it just said "You've already negotiated a new contract with this player" before they left for nothing...

@@oranges866 Yeah, I've never bought the scripted aspect, because if anything, that would have required EA to carefully plan and program something that worked... But in all seriousness, I don't think the game is designed to make you win/lose things. I think the controls and AI are just so inconsistent that it's impossible for you to reliably do anything.

I bought Fifa 23 after the world cup after not playing an EA sports game for around 10 years. At first I was absolutely blown away by how realistic and in depth everything was. The press conferences and cut scenes blew my mind and I loved it..... but after playing for a month and seeing the same shit a million times I have to agree. If I haven't played Fifa in 10 years and I buy the new game and get bored of it after a month says a lot about how they really don't put much effort into the games anymore.
I really liked the challenge of trying to get the AFC Richmond team they added from the Championship League up to the Premiere League. I found a set of sliders that weren't able to fix the game, but at least made the games difficult without being impossible or too easy. But the goddamn game design is just infuriating. The sliders reset themselves constantly. I played the game for a month and probably had to go through and change all of my sliders at least 15 times. The game (on PC) also required me to use an annoying work around to consistently get to have my saved Franchise mode show up for me to resume. It was just all so frustrating that it killed what fun I managed to have in matches when I got the sliders working. I legitimately felt like I was battling with AFC Richmond, and that games against the EPL teams were tough when I would play them, getting me ready for the hopeful promotion next season. But after yet another reset of my sliders, I just got fed up and cancelled the EA Play I was paying for. It's not worth the headache.
This is why i will say something ive been saying for a long time. I played it and PES 12 is better than fifa nowadays, the gameplay was difficult enough to be not too hard but you can be punished for being distracted and rewarding for playing well, the carrer m ode was absolutely fantastic, good graphics for the time, features that should be in fifa but arent like editing a team and making it like you want it to be, etc... It was a masterpiece. Also, the ost was gold
I have played fifa all my life I have never missed a release and I genuinely have so much love for the series, the gameplay is so awful this year that the game is almost unplayable, fifa 22 had its issues but I honestly think the gameplay was fine last year, with a few tweaks to last year they really could of made this a good game, so so so disappointed

I bought FIFA 23 Legacy Edition on the Nintendo Switch at $20. It’s like this garbage featured in the video except it’s only offline features (no special events/packs in Ultimate, no career mode features). The only reason I’m still playing it is to make my money worthwhile and it is pure pain.

Can’t believe you didn’t mention the morale bug in career mode. If you search “player morale broken in fifa23” lots of people complaining about it. It makes the career mode as a manager completely pointless as even if your morale is great, when you get into the game your players have ‘unknown’ morale and can’t even get the ball into an open net they are that goofy. EA rep said they are passing it on yet there’s been an update and it hasn’t been fixed. Because it’s not FUT…
The best part about this game is you literally can just keep pressing buttons really fast and get just as many scoring chances as someone actually using skill, patience and vision. It never used to be like that. Button mashers used to get abused in FIFA 12 and before that. After 12 is when this bouncy, random BS was introduced just killing the game.

Last FIFA I played was 17. Even then it was nothing to the days where you could upgrade your stadium etc. Had stupid glitches like youth players showing as blanks in national team stats. Seems like an easy fix but is probably still there to this day.
I dont know if it happens to anyone but my defenders look like they are gonna get the ball but just walk pass the attacker as if theyvare blind. If if i win the tackle the ball always bounces back their team member and often in space. Thats the only thing i hate about defending

I tried the game and could not take it anymore after an hour. CDMs do not track back, even with high defensive work rate. Defending is almost impossible most of the time. I really miss the old days on the Playstation 2, all i played was football games, PES, Winning eleven etc.... It was soo much fun, gameplay was amazing and i could play for hours. Football games these days are a chore and FIFA could literally drive you insane, that is how painful it is to play this crap
I play a lot against my friend and we have no idea who is the better one. One game i win 10-1 the next he wins 7-1 the game after that it ends 4-4 the game after that i win 1-0 the game that he wins 1-2 then i win 3 games back to back where he is complete shit after that he winst 2 games by 4-0 /6-2. All games played with the same teams and same settings.
Started playing ultimate team a little bit ago, havent put any money into it at all, still got decent players from the packs the game gave me. The only terrible thing is playing a team full of 98s and conceding screamers from the halfway line

Probably because in 22 people abused dribbling to the goal line (not sure if this is the correct term for the sideline where the goal is) and whipping a ground pass by 3 defenders and a keeper for an easy goal. Its likely an over correction

Personally,the reason why I think fifa sucks is everything in common, having the opponent scoring over and over and when the time ends you only score 1,this is only on vs attack of course,another thing,RNG sucks,when your excited for a good player you get a bad one causing to sell it.
Anybody noticed that AI tackles that are nowhere close to ball are not called as fouls? Played like 10 games vs AI and it kept happening every game. Not an issue in UT.
Happens online in seasons. Burns me up watching guys whiff on tackles but still managing to trip up my attacker..make him fall..get the ball for an easy counter.
What the AI likes to do is they push or trip my player until he gets staggered, and then gets the ball. My player meanwhile, can't be controlled because he is in a "staggered" state. And the shitty thing is I can't do that to the AI. If I try to tackle them, they either shrug it off like nothing happened or it was a foul.

Played for the first time since FIFA 13 and I was utterly astonished at how much defending has been downgraded. Positioning to defend a counter is next to impossible.
Totally agree with pretty much all points, it's a sham how they've programmed the game.
On defense, the way it works is that players depending on their position (and some instructions, e.g. for fullbacks) have a certain box which they will move in. That box for CMs and CDMs ends way in front of the box, thus they don't help defend because they would have to step out of their box. This, depending on what's the game's meta, determines the most OP formations.
Also a big issue is how inputs translate into in-game action. Say there is a shooting input, the game will then calculate, depending on input, player stats and positioning, the outcome and will play the matching animations. This results in a couple of things. Shots with good players but bad input result in questionable goals, good input with bad players ends in questionable misses, and passing is broken on the game. If the game determines that a pass will arrive, but the passing route is marked, the game will play the ball to a spot where the ball will arrive, making defending even more useless. You can anticipate passes perfectly and not end up with the ball. Everything so you need to spend that extra money on a better player.
Infuriating as well is, how the game can turn hitboxes of players on and off as it likes. Balls going through players heads, bodies, feet etc. just so the calculated outcome can happen. I've scored and conceded goals after balls entirely passed somebody's torso.
This also makes defending yet again more difficult, as players can freely take two steps on the same foot, cancel skill moves with both feet in the air, cancel the shot animation just to start another shot without taking a step in between, etc.
Oh, and bounce backs.

Listening to your breakdown of the gameplay had me nodding along. I haven't heard anyone explain it so perfectly.
I bought Fifa 23 after not buying 22 but I don't think I've ever seen a game with so many bugs, I haven't been able to play a single day without bugs and that's (also) without touching FUT
Not only can you not defend overpowered players, somehow the keeper saves all your 15 shots while some scrub scores the same 3 goals, has to be a way you can have constant pressure without deading your whole team.
I remember way back in some ancient fifa like fifa 10 and previous to that, that i was able to search for transfer targets with potential as a parameter instead of having to go to some website to look up the wonderkids as now.
I also remember that i was able to invest my money in career mode on upgrading club infrastructure like the stadium to increase revenue, or upgrading different staff members to train the squad better in certain areas like attacking or defending, rather than spending it on transfers. Given this is a memory from about 15 years ago im really bummed that EA havent been able to make a career mode as good as what was made so long ago. Back then i would play season after season, i remember getting to the point where all the teenage players of that edition had turned old and would need to get replace by randomly generated new talents in the pool. I dont think i have played two entire seasons on a career mode since then.
And dont even get me started on the gameplay of fifa 23, the decisions that the AI make on behalf of defenders is literally the most unrealistic shit. You would find better defenders in the danish league 4.
And why does my fullback stay in defence when i have the ball and he is set to participate in the attack and do overlaps!
At this point it is not even a question, they are genuinly just fucking with us because they can.

I have fifa 21 (which is basically 22 and 23) and good lord is it that bad the screen that shows the news is messed up doesn't glow properly, nor shows player's face, the training is absloute bs when I simulate it it's always D no matter what, the international tournaments are sh1T as always how tf does pes a dead game make better tournaments even without a licensed right holding? In fifa career mode if you play the world cup Ho Ly Sh1T it's disgusting not only they can't get the games properly the stadiums they use are absloutely horrendous it's only 2 stadiums waldstadion (god I hate that stadium) and the olympic stadium whatever it's called yes it's only 2 stadiums and the latter is only used for the final, you would think that since they have the licensed rights they would actually do something but nooooo they had to stop caring I honestly get pissed off everytime I play because of how dumb this Sh1T is, if pes can make a better game with semi bad semi good gameplay and with few licensed rights you know you not only messed up but you're one of the worst game developers in the history of video games

This game is total garbage. Only kids plying with PSG so they don’t miss a shot.
My biggest gripe with this game is the near-comically inconsistent difficulty level. When I'm a top team facing off against a lower half side, I struggle big time. For some reason, they always put up a stalwart defence and hardly allow a single goalscoring opportunity. I do win these games most of the time, but it's always by very slim margins. Conversely, playing against top teams in the league and against top CL opposition, I find the difficulty level to be hilariously low. I can score 5-6 goals and keep a clean sheet with ease. It's just so fucking frustrating.
CPU intentionally moving the defenders out of position to cause an attacking play was evident in Fifa 17.
I'm amazed anyone has the gall to say there is no scripting in this game. It wouldn't be half as bad if EA just admitted they can't code up proper gameplay physics and have to use those little scripting moments as a band-aid.
Thing is, I don't think it's scripted. I think it's just shit AI design. So often players run to where that defender should be on the pitch, assuming no one on their team is out of position or the other team is in their area with the ball. I always found it most noticeable with my outside defenders. If one of my CB's stepped up and missed an attempt on the ball, they would be about halfway between where they would normally be with all 4 defenders back, and the center lane the ball carrier was running down.
Instead of them running to the middle of the pitch to cover the path the attacking player was likely to take, they would turn and start running back to where their position would normally be playing if all 4 defenders were back, which wasn't the case, and lead to me frantically trying to switch to them, as they were the only defender I could potentially make a play with. But by the time the AI ran 10ft away from the attacker's path towards the net, leaving me wildly out of position by the time I did switch to them (assuming the game switched me to the right one in the first try or two).
Oh, and my favorite bug I forgot about. Negotiating new contracts with players in the last year of their contracts, then having the players leave, because the game didn't update their contract information, but when I tried to negotiate a new one, it just said "You've already negotiated a new contract with this player" before they left for nothing...

But in all seriousness, I don't think the game is designed to make you win/lose things. I think the controls and AI are just so inconsistent that it's impossible for you to reliably do anything.

I bought Fifa 23 after the world cup after not playing an EA sports game for around 10 years. At first I was absolutely blown away by how realistic and in depth everything was. The press conferences and cut scenes blew my mind and I loved it..... but after playing for a month and seeing the same shit a million times I have to agree. If I haven't played Fifa in 10 years and I buy the new game and get bored of it after a month says a lot about how they really don't put much effort into the games anymore.
I really liked the challenge of trying to get the AFC Richmond team they added from the Championship League up to the Premiere League. I found a set of sliders that weren't able to fix the game, but at least made the games difficult without being impossible or too easy.
But the goddamn game design is just infuriating. The sliders reset themselves constantly. I played the game for a month and probably had to go through and change all of my sliders at least 15 times. The game (on PC) also required me to use an annoying work around to consistently get to have my saved Franchise mode show up for me to resume.
It was just all so frustrating that it killed what fun I managed to have in matches when I got the sliders working. I legitimately felt like I was battling with AFC Richmond, and that games against the EPL teams were tough when I would play them, getting me ready for the hopeful promotion next season.
But after yet another reset of my sliders, I just got fed up and cancelled the EA Play I was paying for. It's not worth the headache.
This is why i will say something ive been saying for a long time. I played it and PES 12 is better than fifa nowadays, the gameplay was difficult enough to be not too hard but you can be punished for being distracted and rewarding for playing well, the carrer m ode was absolutely fantastic, good graphics for the time, features that should be in fifa but arent like editing a team and making it like you want it to be, etc... It was a masterpiece. Also, the ost was gold
I have played fifa all my life I have never missed a release and I genuinely have so much love for the series, the gameplay is so awful this year that the game is almost unplayable, fifa 22 had its issues but I honestly think the gameplay was fine last year, with a few tweaks to last year they really could of made this a good game, so so so disappointed

I bought FIFA 23 Legacy Edition on the Nintendo Switch at $20. It’s like this garbage featured in the video except it’s only offline features (no special events/packs in Ultimate, no career mode features). The only reason I’m still playing it is to make my money worthwhile and it is pure pain.

Can’t believe you didn’t mention the morale bug in career mode. If you search “player morale broken in fifa23” lots of people complaining about it. It makes the career mode as a manager completely pointless as even if your morale is great, when you get into the game your players have ‘unknown’ morale and can’t even get the ball into an open net they are that goofy. EA rep said they are passing it on yet there’s been an update and it hasn’t been fixed. Because it’s not FUT…

The best part about this game is you literally can just keep pressing buttons really fast and get just as many scoring chances as someone actually using skill, patience and vision. It never used to be like that. Button mashers used to get abused in FIFA 12 and before that. After 12 is when this bouncy, random BS was introduced just killing the game.

Last FIFA I played was 17. Even then it was nothing to the days where you could upgrade your stadium etc. Had stupid glitches like youth players showing as blanks in national team stats. Seems like an easy fix but is probably still there to this day.

I dont know if it happens to anyone but my defenders look like they are gonna get the ball but just walk pass the attacker as if theyvare blind. If if i win the tackle the ball always bounces back their team member and often in space. Thats the only thing i hate about defending

I tried the game and could not take it anymore after an hour. CDMs do not track back, even with high defensive work rate. Defending is almost impossible most of the time.
I really miss the old days on the Playstation 2, all i played was football games, PES, Winning eleven etc.... It was soo much fun, gameplay was amazing and i could play for hours.

One game i win 10-1 the next he wins 7-1 the game after that it ends 4-4 the game after that i win 1-0 the game that he wins 1-2 then i win 3 games back to back where he is complete shit after that he winst 2 games by 4-0 /6-2. All games played with the same teams and same settings.
You know what helps defend/ camera angle. Give your game the madden end to end view and it helps quite a bit

The craziest shit is the headers off corner kicks the cpu scores 1 almost every game..I smash the square button on ps4 and it almost never works.. I had one game where the cpu had at least 5 in a row and the new penalty kicks/free kicks are trash

I have one question about the gameplay I can't seem to get a response to - am I the only one who has noticed that passes inside the opponent's penalty area are always fucked up and never accurate?

Probably because in 22 people abused dribbling to the goal line (not sure if this is the correct term for the sideline where the goal is) and whipping a ground pass by 3 defenders and a keeper for an easy goal. Its likely an over correction

Anybody noticed that AI tackles that are nowhere close to ball are not called as fouls? Played like 10 games vs AI and it kept happening every game. Not an issue in UT.
Happens online in seasons. Burns me up watching guys whiff on tackles but still managing to trip up my attacker..make him fall..get the ball for an easy counter.
What the AI likes to do is they push or trip my player until he gets staggered, and then gets the ball. My player meanwhile, can't be controlled because he is in a "staggered" state.
And the shitty thing is I can't do that to the AI. If I try to tackle them, they either shrug it off like nothing happened or it was a foul.
