When I heard they weren't impressed I ignored them and got the game anyway. I then beat the game and realized what they were talking about. While this game destroyed a piece of me inside child, I will say that to be a true dmc fan you will have had to played this game at least once in your life.

The Dante in 2 seemed... different. Almost like a different person. He also appeared as a bonus character in Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne. His odd personality still in place.
Well you see, before this, he killed/let go of his brother 2 times. One in DMC 3, and in DMC (Nelo Angelo), He was depressed bcz of it. He was at a kinda depressed mood in dmc, but then when he realised he killed his brother again, in DMC 2 his depression topped off. He just wont talk, and generally silent. And then that depression lowered down when he met Nero.. On dmc 5, when he met vergil again, That brings his happy personality back.
@@danishmikailabrisham7.740its actually just because this game had a different dev team who werent even fans of the first game, or Dante’s personality. so they changed him to be more brooding, along with the overall tone of the game. this is also why the combat was dumbed down, first game had a team of people who had experience with fighting games, this one didnt.

DMC 2 was actually my introduction to the series and I enjoyed it a lot when I first played it. Then I played 1 and 3 and saw the world of difference there was between them but even though I now see they are much better, 2 still holds a place in my heart for introducing me to the series.

About that crunched development process of the game, at one point one of the members, Bingo Morihashi who was the writer for this series, was coughing up blood due to the inhumane cycle of development at Capcom in 2002-2003, putting out so much games at the time and Capcom pushed their dev teams to their limits to the point that it almost killed them and that was absolutely bad
What upset me the most about this game for the longest time was that it was always placed at the end of the DMC timeline. The series canon always led to a wet fart rather than a bombastic climax worthy of being the end of the story. Thankfully 5 is fixing this, and there have been hints that they're taking some of the better concepts from this game and putting them in 5. I hope Lucia comes back. She doesn't deserve to be stuck in this trashpile of a game.
Absolutely same. I've been hoping since seeing all the old and new characters that Lucia would make a comeback and finally be represented in a game that deserves her and cements her as a worthwhile addition to the series.

While the game is pretty bad, the changes made by Capcom were because DMC1 got a lot of heat for being too difficult, too short, and...not being able to play as Trish. This doesnt excuse Capcom for making this mess, but the changes were made because people asked for them.
In a way these criticisms were correct. The original North American Normal difficulty was Japan/Europe's hard difficulty, and America's hard difficulty was harder than the other region's hard mode. This was because Japan outlawed renting games, but games could still be rented in the US and Japanese publishers wanted their games to be too long to beat on a rental. But these were fixed in the special editions and HD collection, because Capcom didn't bother to adjust those difficulties
I remember achievement hunting for the HD collection, and this game had an achievement for reaching level 9000 in bloody palace. Good lord, the experience was miserable!

DEE EEM CEEE TOOOOO No seriously, with the rise of remakes in recent years, this and DMC1 definitely need remakes. DMC1 so some of its clunkier aspects can be touched up, but in DMC2's case, its so it becomes a competent game in general.
Sequels are some of the more risky games to came. Depending on its success, the game can give a series one or a thousand chances to make more games and establish a brand, or ruin all chances for good. It’s a miracle that DMC2 was able to sell more than enough copies to allow a third game and progress the franchise. Because 3 and 4 really showed how far it can go.
I think after all these years I can sum up everything wrong with DMC2 in a single blanket statement. There's just nothing that makes it exciting to continue playing. I still, to this day, can't think of a game that has such a distinct lack of any sort of momentum from any aspect of it quite like dmc2. Gameplay, setting, character, nothing. It's like the game exists in this meandering state of nothing for its entirety. It's almost remarkable really.
CAPCOM originally wanted a new IP, but they placed DMC into it with questionable results, Itsuno later discovers this and despite giving 4 months crunch to polish what was in this game, he even wanted to improve his framed status by making DMC3... I believe CAPCOM tried to killed DMC2 and Dino Crisis 3 because both of these installments were released in 2003 (Which is interesting because they were offshoots of Resident Evil), and it was a year before RE4 was released, which CAPCOM put a lot of focus to...

Devil May Cry - *Can* be hard on DMD if you don’t know what you’re doing. Devil May Cry 2 - The game over screen is one of the rarest sights in game history. Devil May Cry 3 (not special addition) - Had to be re-released in order for it to not be impossibly hard.
Impossibly hard? Lol no no. Impossibly hard is Normal, and every other game in history's Normal is actually Easy mode. DMC3 was probably my first great action game, I had no idea it was stuck on Hard but it unfortunately became my metric for what normal should be in every game ever since. ...My life has been a conga line of disappointment because of this.
Special Edition fixed all my nightmares from Dante's Awakening... Original was really frustrating (no yellow orbs-mission's over) and overhard since I had USA version, SE rebalanced things just right...
Never got around to playing DMC2 until pretty recently. I heard it was pretty bad, but I honestly didn't take it very seriously considering most DMC fans absolutely hate DmC:DMC, despite the gameplay actually being okay to enjoyable. But holy shit, after encountering the possessed tanks and the chopper, I knew this game would be absolutely terrible, but still played it to get the achievements. 9000+ floors of Bloody Palace? Some of the most boring hours of my life. Almost rather wanted be at my workplace at the supermarket. Luckily, I got the achievement by only using about 20 healing items and didn't need to use the gold orb. Pretty jarring experience considering I used to play through the DMC 5 Bloody Palace pretty much daily prior to finally giving DMC2 a shot. The lock on system is absolutely God awful. To lock onto flying enemies, you pretty much have to be on the same height as them to get the lock on consistently, forcing you to jump and absolutely pray you won't get gangbanged by goatmen when you land. The bosses? What the actual fuck? The only decent ones are the final Dante boss, semi and final Lucia boss, Trismagia (3 head boss (hear me out here, dodging the attacks are somewhat satisfying)), and the rock golem boss when there are no lasers around. The rest are very bad, but the worst designed boss is definitely the Lucia fish boss in DMD. The boss is *permanently* invisible, making it impossible to get a lock on. Considering that your actions are somewhat limited compared to 3 and beyond, I actually didn't mind the dodge button to a single button, so in my eyes, it gets a pass for that. Mapping it to the same button as wallruns however? Were they high? The music is actually decent to good. The game is relatively short, so thats a pluss as well. Unless you are feeling the need to punish yourself for your sins by doing S rank playthroughs, just stack up on healing items and buy max DT guage and tank the bosses. I kind of like the *concept* of customizing your DT, but there is no reason, as far as I am aware, to not have ice attacks (it slows bosses to a crawling halt). They might as well have combined the flying/running fast hearts since the only function they serve is for you to hit the pause menu and swap between them to get through the level. The Chrono heart drains way too much of your DT gauge to be viable. There is no reason to not use offenseheart, unless you are running Bloody Palace, where healingheart actually serves a function so you can soak more of the absolutely unavoidable gangbanging goatmen on later stages. I will probably never in my life go back to DMC2. EDIT: Some grammar mistakes. Probably still missed some.
People hate DmC.DMC because of what It represent, disrespect and believe itself superior to the OG DMC rather than the Game itself. DMC 2 is just for how bad the actual Game is.
People hated dmc:dmc for what it represented for the series, less the game itself. Nowadays we've got dmc5, so the game is looked back on less harshly in hindsight knowing that it diddnt end up representing the direction of the series.
funny thing is, DMC2 was my entry to the series. I even remember buying it, drunk off my ass at a department store VIP event, with a Game concession. I spent a couple hundred that night on pre-owned games, but it's DMC2 I recall picking up and I was smitten. I always thought that DMC 2 had a House of the Dead 2 aesthetic. That weird dark, gothic, and slightly metropolitan look. I honestly thought that was the direction for it.
DMC2 was so bad that Pat and Woolie from Super Best Friends skiped it when they LPed the entire series. Including DmC and Vergil's Downfall. Which were so bad they killed the channel.

They should make a game called Resident Evil: Stealth where you have to build a camp and stop soldiers from patrolling around it and routinely falling asleep. That would totally fit in with the rest of the series and nobody would hate it.
I love DMC 2. It was my first Devil May Cry game and first video game I've ever played. Dante's outfit in this game is my personal favorite and the OST as well. Being able to customize the devil trigger and go into Majin form is something I really miss. I also hope they bring back Lucia in DMC 5.
And to think this was my first DMC game and loved it lol. If it wasn't for the internet I would have never discovered the beauties that came before and after it.

@Yoshimitsu Yeah, but it would also be cool to salvage anything that has potential. Imagine for example, if Bolverk had a personality, and his wolves were not only reworked into a good miniboss, but also played a part in the fight with him. Maybe he could command them as part of his attack patterns. Kinda like alto angelos in DMC4. Of course when it comes level design, you'd have to come up with a ton of original stuff. 'Cause there ain't much to work with. So, the parts of the game would range from remake, to totally original. With Itsuno at the helm to right the wrongs of the past. Really, I'm just daydreaming, but tell me that wouldn't be awesome!

It's incredibly impressive how Itsuno managed to salvage a video game from a pile of scraps in 6 months. DMC2 may not have been a good game, but it's only a game period because of him, and it's frankly a miracle that it came out at all. Were it not for Itsuno saving DMC2 and making DMC3 as good as it was, the franchise would be long dead by now.
The thing is that Devil May Cry 2 was my first DMC and... I absolutely didn't like it either and thought it would be the same with the rest of the games so I had no interest in playing the other games initially. A few years later I tried DMC 3 with some doubts but I wanted to compare. This was the moment I got blown away. It was amazing and after some research I was disappointed that I tried DMC 2 first and that this one gave me the opinion I had earlier. Now I'm just glad that I tried it again because I love the DMC games since trying DMC3.
1 was my first and almost killed the series for me, worst boss fights I've ever seen outside of neo Angelo and mundus. I skipped to 3 after that and to be honest I liked the story but the gameplay was limiting as fuck so I tried 2 cause I had them in the anniversary collection back on the ps2. Man DMC 2 blew me away with flying everywhere super strong forms and shit this game is sick
Great to see another video from you on the DMC series. I'm always intrigued to hear different people's perspectives on this particular entry in the series since it could have easily killed the franchise yet still sold well in spite of its disappointing reception. I remember when I first got the trilogy a year before 4 came out, I played 2 and deluded myself into thinking it was "okay". Then I kept playing the other two and decided a few months later "alright, it couldn't have been that bad, let's give it another try", and repeated the cycle for about 2 years. Finally after not playing any of the games for a few years, I bought the HD collection for PS4 following 5's announcement, and saved 2 for absolute last. Couldn't even beat it; hell, I stopped right after I killed the now infamous Infested Chopper. It was just mentally exhausting to force myself through this game because there's absolutely no sense of accomplishment or reward to be found. I even showed it to my friend who had never seen it before, and he said he was ready for me to stop one level before that and I had to *insist* that he see the Infested Chopper fight before I mercifully turned the game off. Also big props to Ittla for making a very enticing Devil Trigger mascot for you. I hope they keep the train rolling with another sinfully seductive design when you get around to reviewing 3.
I played through DMC2 this year for the first time and there were definitely some things I enjoyed about it. I think what really made it particularly fun was the wall running and parkour. It was so badass! Felt like the Matrix. I genuinely LOVED that mechanic. I’m kinda sad they don’t have that in any other game. Maybe what made the experience fun was how I went in knowing it was garbage and didn’t take it seriously.
When I first played this sequel, I was shocked by how easy and dreadful it was compared to the original. I was so excited to play DMC2 and even missed an episode of South Park to play it. Looking back now, I should have watched South Park.

After playing the whole story again on DMD difficulty (Dante Must Die) there's another alternate costume for Dante is DMC1 Dante as a 2nd alt skin and it's also on DMC3 as if is completed on normal mode.

Thank you for the explanations! I am currently catching up to the series and enjoyed the first one way more than I thought I would. For a game that old I expected a way more outdated and "ancient" feel. Not many games from that era age this well! I finished MC2 with Dante yesterday and got to Chapter 5 with Lucia and while I knew that this title was widely regarded as bad, some things I almost couldn't believe. I think the infested tank battle is a statement on its own. If you hack away at it from up close, it can't do anything and you get an S combat rating. It's like the franchise was given to a bad indie developer to have a first go at making a game... and the "story" matches this accusation too ^^
A feature I want to see return in modern games is being able to examine the background and getting some flavor text with information. It used to add a lot to old Resident Evil games.
*Question:* Would a *remake* of Devil May Cry 2 be a good idea? With a remake many flawed elements could be fixed/improved upon while adding new stuff that can make it an entirely new game. Thoughts?
I don't know how the story would work in the remake since there is almost no (important) story. The only thing that is relevant to the rest of the series is, Sparda helped a village. That's it. So I think a "Devil May Cry 2 Remake" wouldn't work like you said. They should make a separate game called "DMC Gaiden" or something. Or maybe implement everything to Devil May Cry 6.

I got into this series pretty recently, and I played this one and the first one back to back and wow what a letdown this game was. I'm glad I'm not the only one who also felt like the bosses were really lacking, exeption to only the final one of Dante's half. In any case, awesome video!

Ever since DMC V got announced I wanted to get into the series,I bought the trilogy on the 360 but I haven't had enough time to play it, I enjoyed this video quite a bit because it means that when I finally get to play DMC 2 I won't feel as disappointed or frustrated as I could have been without any previous knowledge. Gets even more interesting. The things name is rough latin for the phrase "Tower of Sin". After you beat on it enough (read: close range shotgun blasts because it pretty much never gets into melee range) the head falls off and acts as "stage two" of the fight.
Yes they are ridiculous Jokatgulm, Tateobesu, Trismagia, Nefasturris, Noctpteran, Bolverk, Tartarussian, Plutonian, Orangguerra, Furataurus, Arius, Argosax the chaos, Phantom, Arius-Argosax, Possessed Arius, The Despair Embodied. The last one is actually a really fun fight.
Dante feels different because Capcom wanted him to be "an older, wiser devil hunter." That is stated in an issue of Game Informer (IIRC) months before the release of DMC2. I'm willing to bet the inclusion of Trish with Dante's original move-set was added in by a developer to prove to the mystery director that he was wrong to change Dante.
Even though Devil May Cry 2 is terrible I thought Lucia was kind of fun to play as as well as Trish when you unlock her. You know something's wrong when Dante is the least fun character to play as in a Devil May Cry game.
@chris villatoro Team Little Devils also didn't worked in DMC3 and DMC4 entirely and these games turn out great (well, with the exception of DMC4 which had the budget cut and the game suffered from it). The main problem with DMC2 was Capcom. If they had not forced Itsuno to create the whole game in a few months we would have a much better product.
@@rhowlforme I think it's important to mention that not only was the budget for Devil May Cry 4 cut but also the development time. Capcom really did want to rush it out of the door a lot like Devil May Cry 2. The aforementioned mystery director did do a number on the game however if Capcom had given Itsuno enough time he probably could have shaped the game up into something that was at least passable.
@@rhowlforme Despite some shortcomings DMC4 was still great and arguably has the best combat system in the series. I just hope Capcom take their time with DMC5 since it's the end of the Son of Sparda storyline as they say, so the finale should be nothing short of excellent.
The first one was MUCH harder and I actually loved going and fighting weaker enemies to get those precious red orbs so I could power up to finally win against the bosses. Using DT wasn't just to look cool but actually needed to survive, making the purple orbs VERY worthwhile. Now I barely take two minutes to fight a boss and barely use DT because it looks cool but isn't any faster in killing the demons so it's pointless.
I couldn't stop laughing when the DMC5 official story summary for this game was one sentence long.

DMC 2 was actually my introduction to the series and I enjoyed it a lot when I first played it. Then I played 1 and 3 and saw the world of difference there was between them but even though I now see they are much better, 2 still holds a place in my heart for introducing me to the series.

About that crunched development process of the game, at one point one of the members, Bingo Morihashi who was the writer for this series, was coughing up blood due to the inhumane cycle of development at Capcom in 2002-2003, putting out so much games at the time and Capcom pushed their dev teams to their limits to the point that it almost killed them and that was absolutely bad
What upset me the most about this game for the longest time was that it was always placed at the end of the DMC timeline.
The series canon always led to a wet fart rather than a bombastic climax worthy of being the end of the story.
Thankfully 5 is fixing this, and there have been hints that they're taking some of the better concepts from this game and putting them in 5.
I hope Lucia comes back. She doesn't deserve to be stuck in this trashpile of a game.

While the game is pretty bad, the changes made by Capcom were because DMC1 got a lot of heat for being too difficult, too short, and...not being able to play as Trish.
This doesnt excuse Capcom for making this mess, but the changes were made because people asked for them.

In a way these criticisms were correct. The original North American Normal difficulty was Japan/Europe's hard difficulty, and America's hard difficulty was harder than the other region's hard mode.
This was because Japan outlawed renting games, but games could still be rented in the US and Japanese publishers wanted their games to be too long to beat on a rental.
But these were fixed in the special editions and HD collection, because Capcom didn't bother to adjust those difficulties

No seriously, with the rise of remakes in recent years, this and DMC1 definitely need remakes. DMC1 so some of its clunkier aspects can be touched up, but in DMC2's case, its so it becomes a competent game in general.
You know I don't think there's ever been a remake where it improves or fixes a bad game. DMC 2 would be a first for it if it were to happen!

Sequels are some of the more risky games to came. Depending on its success, the game can give a series one or a thousand chances to make more games and establish a brand, or ruin all chances for good. It’s a miracle that DMC2 was able to sell more than enough copies to allow a third game and progress the franchise. Because 3 and 4 really showed how far it can go.

There's just nothing that makes it exciting to continue playing.
I still, to this day, can't think of a game that has such a distinct lack of any sort of momentum from any aspect of it quite like dmc2. Gameplay, setting, character, nothing. It's like the game exists in this meandering state of nothing for its entirety. It's almost remarkable really.
CAPCOM originally wanted a new IP, but they placed DMC into it with questionable results, Itsuno later discovers this and despite giving 4 months crunch to polish what was in this game, he even wanted to improve his framed status by making DMC3...
I believe CAPCOM tried to killed DMC2 and Dino Crisis 3 because both of these installments were released in 2003 (Which is interesting because they were offshoots of Resident Evil), and it was a year before RE4 was released, which CAPCOM put a lot of focus to...

Devil May Cry - *Can* be hard on DMD if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Devil May Cry 2 - The game over screen is one of the rarest sights in game history.
Devil May Cry 3 (not special addition) - Had to be re-released in order for it to not be impossibly hard.
Impossibly hard? Lol no no. Impossibly hard is Normal, and every other game in history's Normal is actually Easy mode.
DMC3 was probably my first great action game, I had no idea it was stuck on Hard but it unfortunately became my metric for what normal should be in every game ever since.
...My life has been a conga line of disappointment because of this.
Special Edition fixed all my nightmares from Dante's Awakening... Original was really frustrating (no yellow orbs-mission's over) and overhard since I had USA version, SE rebalanced things just right...

Never got around to playing DMC2 until pretty recently. I heard it was pretty bad, but I honestly didn't take it very seriously considering most DMC fans absolutely hate DmC:DMC, despite the gameplay actually being okay to enjoyable. But holy shit, after encountering the possessed tanks and the chopper, I knew this game would be absolutely terrible, but still played it to get the achievements.
9000+ floors of Bloody Palace? Some of the most boring hours of my life. Almost rather wanted be at my workplace at the supermarket. Luckily, I got the achievement by only using about 20 healing items and didn't need to use the gold orb.
Pretty jarring experience considering I used to play through the DMC 5 Bloody Palace pretty much daily prior to finally giving DMC2 a shot.
The lock on system is absolutely God awful. To lock onto flying enemies, you pretty much have to be on the same height as them to get the lock on consistently, forcing you to jump and absolutely pray you won't get gangbanged by goatmen when you land.
The bosses? What the actual fuck? The only decent ones are the final Dante boss, semi and final Lucia boss, Trismagia (3 head boss (hear me out here, dodging the attacks are somewhat satisfying)), and the rock golem boss when there are no lasers around. The rest are very bad, but the worst designed boss is definitely the Lucia fish boss in DMD. The boss is *permanently* invisible, making it impossible to get a lock on.
Considering that your actions are somewhat limited compared to 3 and beyond, I actually didn't mind the dodge button to a single button, so in my eyes, it gets a pass for that. Mapping it to the same button as wallruns however? Were they high?
The music is actually decent to good.
The game is relatively short, so thats a pluss as well. Unless you are feeling the need to punish yourself for your sins by doing S rank playthroughs, just stack up on healing items and buy max DT guage and tank the bosses.
I kind of like the *concept* of customizing your DT, but there is no reason, as far as I am aware, to not have ice attacks (it slows bosses to a crawling halt). They might as well have combined the flying/running fast hearts since the only function they serve is for you to hit the pause menu and swap between them to get through the level. The Chrono heart drains way too much of your DT gauge to be viable. There is no reason to not use offenseheart, unless you are running Bloody Palace, where healingheart actually serves a function so you can soak more of the absolutely unavoidable gangbanging goatmen on later stages.
I will probably never in my life go back to DMC2.

People hated dmc:dmc for what it represented for the series, less the game itself. Nowadays we've got dmc5, so the game is looked back on less harshly in hindsight knowing that it diddnt end up representing the direction of the series.

funny thing is, DMC2 was my entry to the series. I even remember buying it, drunk off my ass at a department store VIP event, with a Game concession. I spent a couple hundred that night on pre-owned games, but it's DMC2 I recall picking up and I was smitten.

I love DMC 2. It was my first Devil May Cry game and first video game I've ever played. Dante's outfit in this game is my personal favorite and the OST as well. Being able to customize the devil trigger and go into Majin form is something I really miss. I also hope they bring back Lucia in DMC 5.

It's incredibly impressive how Itsuno managed to salvage a video game from a pile of scraps in 6 months. DMC2 may not have been a good game, but it's only a game period because of him, and it's frankly a miracle that it came out at all. Were it not for Itsuno saving DMC2 and making DMC3 as good as it was, the franchise would be long dead by now.
The thing is that Devil May Cry 2 was my first DMC and... I absolutely didn't like it either and thought it would be the same with the rest of the games so I had no interest in playing the other games initially. A few years later I tried DMC 3 with some doubts but I wanted to compare. This was the moment I got blown away. It was amazing and after some research I was disappointed that I tried DMC 2 first and that this one gave me the opinion I had earlier. Now I'm just glad that I tried it again because I love the DMC games since trying DMC3.
1 was my first and almost killed the series for me, worst boss fights I've ever seen outside of neo Angelo and mundus. I skipped to 3 after that and to be honest I liked the story but the gameplay was limiting as fuck so I tried 2 cause I had them in the anniversary collection back on the ps2. Man DMC 2 blew me away with flying everywhere super strong forms and shit this game is sick

I remember I traded Tony Hawk Underground for this game. A decision I regret to this day.
Great to see another video from you on the DMC series. I'm always intrigued to hear different people's perspectives on this particular entry in the series since it could have easily killed the franchise yet still sold well in spite of its disappointing reception. I remember when I first got the trilogy a year before 4 came out, I played 2 and deluded myself into thinking it was "okay". Then I kept playing the other two and decided a few months later "alright, it couldn't have been that bad, let's give it another try", and repeated the cycle for about 2 years. Finally after not playing any of the games for a few years, I bought the HD collection for PS4 following 5's announcement, and saved 2 for absolute last. Couldn't even beat it; hell, I stopped right after I killed the now infamous Infested Chopper. It was just mentally exhausting to force myself through this game because there's absolutely no sense of accomplishment or reward to be found. I even showed it to my friend who had never seen it before, and he said he was ready for me to stop one level before that and I had to *insist* that he see the Infested Chopper fight before I mercifully turned the game off.
Also big props to Ittla for making a very enticing Devil Trigger mascot for you. I hope they keep the train rolling with another sinfully seductive design when you get around to reviewing 3.

I played through DMC2 this year for the first time and there were definitely some things I enjoyed about it. I think what really made it particularly fun was the wall running and parkour. It was so badass! Felt like the Matrix. I genuinely LOVED that mechanic. I’m kinda sad they don’t have that in any other game. Maybe what made the experience fun was how I went in knowing it was garbage and didn’t take it seriously.
When I first played this sequel, I was shocked by how easy and dreadful it was compared to the original. I was so excited to play DMC2 and even missed an episode of South Park to play it. Looking back now, I should have watched South Park.

After playing the whole story again on DMD difficulty (Dante Must Die) there's another alternate costume for Dante is DMC1 Dante as a 2nd alt skin and it's also on DMC3 as if is completed on normal mode.

Thank you for the explanations! I am currently catching up to the series and enjoyed the first one way more than I thought I would. For a game that old I expected a way more outdated and "ancient" feel. Not many games from that era age this well! I finished MC2 with Dante yesterday and got to Chapter 5 with Lucia and while I knew that this title was widely regarded as bad, some things I almost couldn't believe. I think the infested tank battle is a statement on its own. If you hack away at it from up close, it can't do anything and you get an S combat rating. It's like the franchise was given to a bad indie developer to have a first go at making a game... and the "story" matches this accusation too ^^

I don't know how the story would work in the remake since there is almost no (important) story. The only thing that is relevant to the rest of the series is, Sparda helped a village. That's it. So I think a "Devil May Cry 2 Remake" wouldn't work like you said. They should make a separate game called "DMC Gaiden" or something. Or maybe implement everything to Devil May Cry 6.

I got into this series pretty recently, and I played this one and the first one back to back and wow what a letdown this game was. I'm glad I'm not the only one who also felt like the bosses were really lacking, exeption to only the final one of Dante's half. In any case, awesome video!

Ever since DMC V got announced I wanted to get into the series,I bought the trilogy on the 360 but I haven't had enough time to play it, I enjoyed this video quite a bit because it means that when I finally get to play DMC 2 I won't feel as disappointed or frustrated as I could have been without any previous knowledge. Also can I mention how I enjoy watching your videos at night? Your voice is perfect!

Gets even more interesting. The things name is rough latin for the phrase "Tower of Sin". After you beat on it enough (read: close range shotgun blasts because it pretty much never gets into melee range) the head falls off and acts as "stage two" of the fight.
Yes they are ridiculous Jokatgulm, Tateobesu, Trismagia, Nefasturris, Noctpteran, Bolverk, Tartarussian, Plutonian, Orangguerra, Furataurus, Arius, Argosax the chaos, Phantom, Arius-Argosax, Possessed Arius, The Despair Embodied. The last one is actually a really fun fight.
Dante feels different because Capcom wanted him to be "an older, wiser devil hunter." That is stated in an issue of Game Informer (IIRC) months before the release of DMC2. I'm willing to bet the inclusion of Trish with Dante's original move-set was added in by a developer to prove to the mystery director that he was wrong to change Dante.

Even though Devil May Cry 2 is terrible I thought Lucia was kind of fun to play as as well as Trish when you unlock her. You know something's wrong when Dante is the least fun character to play as in a Devil May Cry game.
@chris villatoro Team Little Devils also didn't worked in DMC3 and DMC4 entirely and these games turn out great (well, with the exception of DMC4 which had the budget cut and the game suffered from it).
The main problem with DMC2 was Capcom. If they had not forced Itsuno to create the whole game in a few months we would have a much better product.
@@rhowlforme I think it's important to mention that not only was the budget for Devil May Cry 4 cut but also the development time. Capcom really did want to rush it out of the door a lot like Devil May Cry 2. The aforementioned mystery director did do a number on the game however if Capcom had given Itsuno enough time he probably could have shaped the game up into something that was at least passable.
@@rhowlforme Despite some shortcomings DMC4 was still great and arguably has the best combat system in the series. I just hope Capcom take their time with DMC5 since it's the end of the Son of Sparda storyline as they say, so the finale should be nothing short of excellent.

The first one was MUCH harder and I actually loved going and fighting weaker enemies to get those precious red orbs so I could power up to finally win against the bosses. Using DT wasn't just to look cool but actually needed to survive, making the purple orbs VERY worthwhile.
Now I barely take two minutes to fight a boss and barely use DT because it looks cool but isn't any faster in killing the demons so it's pointless.
