If Otto doesn't know your symbol you can set a destination block (double left click IIRC) and he'll route you there. I do that quite a bit because I run locals

Really enjoying your videos, especially the ones out West.
There’s some great info in the “V3 Important Changes” PDF on DPUs losing comms.
Here’s the section on how to fix it:
If a consist has suffered a radio failure and cannot recover from it, the user can simulate "fixing" the problem with the following procedure:
    ◦ Bring the train to a complete stop
    ◦ Place the Reverser in Neutral
    ◦ Make a brakepipe reduction of 20psi or more (on a 90psi train, drop the BP to or below
    70psi)
    ◦ You should see a message about Comms being re-established, and the DPU Screen should show the consist's data normally. You may proceed with your trip

We call them sand spurs here (Destin/FWB). I pull them by hand (with gloves of course) because they are relentless.

I am NOT an Engineer, but based on my carrier experience as a professional aviator and operator of equipment outside of aviation, I would simple reset the engine/locomotive. Typically, shutting down the equipment and restarting (rebooting) the equipment, most times, would resolve the issue. As far as the “game” goes, I would try the aforementioned technique, and, should that fail, switch to another locomotive to act as Lead DPU. If the loco is still drivable/operable, you could simply swap it out with another loco (you’ve got three of them back there) on the bottom end if you absolutely needed the trailing locomotive to act as the DPU Lead. I really enjoy your Run 8 content, by the way.

Thats cool! Loaded too? Isn't there some kind of catch to that like constant contact side bearings, new aluminum hoppers, etc. I didn't think they could do that with just any old slop coal hopper.

If you lose comms the DPU does not change from its last setting until you grab 20 lbs of air. Grabbing air sets it to idle.

Interesting you mentioned that. I went back to a previous save and tried that with the train. It fixed it in the moment, but I went a little further down the tracks only to have the same DPU drop out again. Swapping it to a different loco fixed it permanently. I guess just something bad with that particular unit.

@@spurgaming5400 Yah it is probably the game. Might be a twist to have to set out dead power or find a wye...make things interesting for a server dispatcher.

I've had it lose DPU Comms and fail to re-establish itself no less than twice. I believe it's part of the Realistic DPU Comms realism setting (Or something to that effect).
I see someone has already posted the solution to fix it, so I won't post it again....

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, that train was curious as I would fix the problem, save the game only to have it re-appear on the next playthrough. The only way I could permanently solve the issue was to just make another unit the DPU lead.

Well iirc the BNSF rulebook says the following on controlling speed on a descent:
    0. Max dynamic brake axles is 28 at the front, and unlimited if there is dpu.
    1. Increase the dynamic brake on the front consist until it holds speed.
    2. If max dynamic on the front consist doesn't hold it, increase the back consist dynamic until it holds. Control the speed by modulating the dynamic in the back consist while keeping the front consist in max dynamic.
    3. If max dynamic on both ends doesn't hold it, engage minimum automatic brake, and increase the autobrake in 2 lbs increments until it does. Then modulate the back dynamic as above.
    4. If max dynamic on both ends and 15 lbs reduction doesn't hold it, stop the train and consider your life choices. Either something is broken or your train isn't built right.
So basically use max dynamic before a reduction, control speed with the back dynamic, and not have more than 15 lbs.
