One time I was watching a twitch stream and the streamer and a guest were trying to explain to a troll how to craft a proper insult. I told the streamer that he looked like Tony Hawk found the Fountain of Youth but it was laced with heroin and he laughed so hard he couldn't catch his breath for a couple of minutes. As a person with autism I can confirm that possibly the worst things about autism is either if you’re on the lower functioning side of the spectrum and then for most people going through the process of learning sucks because the way that regular school is set up doesn’t always work for autistic people like I literally can’t comprehend how algebra works because that’s how little sense it makes me and I am incapable of being in regular classrooms because they’re too obnoxious and stressful
as a person with autism i can confirm this is true and that autism sucks
For me, the problem with being autistic is less learning issues, and more being seen as subhuman by 70% of people i meet, despite me succeeding where they failed.
Algebra is easy once it clicks, just finding that thing that makes it click for you.
I try my students with colours first, and then we move on to a very basic algebraic formula.
Red and blue make purple.
As an algebraic formula...
R + B = P
Which is...
Red plus blue equals purple.
To "transpose" the formula to "find B"...
If we take away B, then we get...
R + B - B = P - B
Red plus blue minus blue equals purple minus blue
Which becomes...
R = P - B
Red equals purple minus blue.
All that is missing is that algebra replaces the numbers in a formula with letters.
If we imagine our shopping.
An apple costs 50 pence.
A banana costs 70 pence.
The total would be the cost. (50+70=£1.20).
a + b = c
Apple is "a"
Banana is "b"
Cost is "c"
a + b = c
Apple + banana = cost
Now we change the letters to numbers
a = 50
b = 70
So a + b = c
becomes...
50 + 70 = c (which is £1.20)
Lets pretend we don't know what the banana costs...
A + b = c
We know the apple is 50 and cost is £1.20
So...
50 + b = £1.20
We need to transpose this by taking away the cost of the apple... (minus 50 on both sides so they stay balanced, like a seesaw)
50 - 50 + b = £1.20 - 50
0 + b = 70
So...
B = 70
Banana equals 70.
The reason we use algebra is because we can keep the same formula, and it will work as long as we put in the correct numbers.
If the apple become 60 and the banana become 80 then we would till have a + b = c.
Because a and b changed, c should change as well.
If a = 60 and b = 80
Then a + b will be £1.40
Because 60 + 80 = £1.40
It gets a bit more complicated when it has ÷ and × etc but i hope this helps 👍
