This is a gospel song written by Arthur Reynolds and first recorded by Reynold's own group, The Art Reynolds Singers, on their 1966 album, "Tellin' It Like It Is." The song's title makes use of the American slang term "all-right", which during the 1960s was used to describe something that was considered cool or very good.
The song was later recorded by The Doobie Brothers, who included it on their 1972 album, Toulouse Street, which - together with "Listen to the Music" - brought the band their breakthrough success.
The Doobie Brothers' version of "Jesus Is Just Alright" was one of a number of religiously themed songs to reach the U.S. charts during 1972 and 1973, along with "Morning Has Broken" by Cat Stevens, "Jubilation" by Paul Anka, "Speak to the Sky" by Rick Springfield, "Jesus Was a Capricorn" by Kris Kristofferson, and "I Knew Jesus (Before He Was a Star)" by Glen Campbell. I've seen these guys 5 times over 35 years and let me tell you, this is a rock band. Very few can duplicate their studio sound. The Doobies can. The Eagles can. It's not an easy thing to do.

We saw then in concert, along with Chicago last year at Tahoe..Doobies opened right on time with this song...6,000 fans on their feet in less than a second..A fantastic concert.
Saw them in 1972 and I was trying to remember which band The Doobies opened for. It must have been or most likely was Awesome Chicago! I was a young teen and it only $5 to see enjoy such talent!!
Jesus saved me in 1972 also, so I quit going to rock concerts mainly because of the drugs. I had also seen The Led, Grand Funk, 3 Dogs in '72, Someone threw a 3D type golden cross onstage & Danny Hutton caught it & put it right on around his neck with a thumbs up!

There are live recordings like this where you can hardly tell what song is being played. This is one of the very best clips i've ever seen of a band doing as well or better than the studio version.
I saw them recently open a concert with this song in Huntsville, Al, and they were amazing. I was honestly surprised at how great they still are. I look forward to one day spending eternity with Jesus in heaven!

Saw the concert on HDNet this month. You can catch it on DTV. Great show! This is my era, I grew up with these guys and what made bands like the DB and other 70s bands great was that the musicianship was outstanding, you had more than one guitar player, you had more than one singer, you had more than one songwriter. Everyone shared the spotlight and REALLY enjoyed performing. I hope rock-n-roll as I know it has a revival in my lifetime!

Those of us that came of age during the late 1960s to mid-'70s era can't help but look back and snicker a little when we listen to songs like this one because of how much music bashing was done by our parents and ministers back then. All rock was declared as "Being from the devil himself" and how it would "lead to the destruction of all morality."
Yet, music like this and Stairway to Heaven, Spirit in the Sky, Put Your Hand in the Hand, My Sweet Lord, and of course...Jesus Christ Superstar...among so many others, had more deep spirituality in them that actually reached young people than the "good old-time gospel" most of us grew up with attending our fundy churches. I was (and still am) deeply moved by Amazing Grace, Just As I Am, How Great Thou Art, and others, but once I got into my GTO out in the church parking lot after services I usually popped an eight-track in and had "Jesus Rock" blasting as I pulled out past the gaggle of "little old church ladies" that were shaking their heads and wagging their fingers at me and other teenagers doing the same thing. We understood the message of those songs. The older people chose not to nor realize those musical pieces were solidifying our faith, not. destroying it.
In my not so humble opinion, that was just another one of those things that God used to reach His children and was a perfect explanation for His words of "Lean not on your own understanding for your ways are not My ways."

Powerfull voices and what a beautiful vocals sound and coordination!.
Had a blast a couple months ago at their concert in Oshawa, Ontario Canada. A sea of grey hair whooping it up, singing and raising their hands at the name of Jesus. Went with my son who is 41 and I'm 68...soooo much fun watching him get right in the swing with all of us. Love the Doobies since the 70's 🥰🙏🙏🧔♀
