  • Attaching A Bolt Snap
    Need a safe and proper way to attach a bolt snap to a hose or accessory, well this simple and easy way is fast, and very secure.

    Your bolt snap knot is the best video of all the ones I’ve watched, slow precise with good video shots. I have to view it every now and then for gear change outs

    This is a really nice way of doing it (and ticks off my ocd issues really well)... Thank you!
    Is there any way you could do some more videos on how to store things like reels on your butt d-ring??

      Hello percy3815. We would be happy to make a video on storage of reels on D-rings. We are headed out of town next week for DEMA, so it may be a week or so.

    Hi and thanks for this video. Could you explain or show us, how to cut off this boltsnap in an emergency? I am using a Z-Knife and it is not possible for me to cut this line with it. So that is the reason why I am using O-ring and zip tie.
    Thanks a lot for your answer.
    Greetings from Shanghai

    Brass vs. Stainless, what's your thoughts, Is the extra money for the SS bolt snaps worth it, or just stick with brass as long as its a good quality and the snap works well.

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  5 років тому

      So personally I use both. Anytime I am in Saltwater, I prefer to only use Stainless. But even Stainless will rust if it’s not taken good care of.

    Should it be put on some sort of break away material?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  3 роки тому

      Hello Hojo in SC. Some divers will choose to have it on a break away. I’ve never really preferred a break away system. I carry multiple cutting tools in the very unlikelihood event my hose ever got entangled.

    Hi. A little off topic, but can you give me a thumbnail review of the Mares MV second stage you used for this demo? I'm considering getting one as my safe second, but I've seen comments that it is hard to breathe from and that the faceplate is brittle and easily cracked. Any info you (or anyone else) can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks

      Here is a review we did several years ago on the Mares MV Octo. ua-cam.com/video/fpZ8qlNunF8/v-deo.html. If you will send me your email, I will send you several pictures of it up close. I am currently out of town at an SSI Dealer Summit and will not be back until Wednesday evening. But I will be available to chat Thursday morning by phone if it would help.

    What if I have hose protectors? Can I put the boltsnaps over them?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  4 роки тому

      You can, or you can put them directly after them.

    • @gmussiluz
      @gmussiluz 4 роки тому

      @@LakeHickoryScuba but if I put it after, I can't remove for cleaning well, right?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba

    Why dont you like using a o-ring? Is'nt better so you dont get hung up in stuff?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  6 років тому +3

      I haven't used O-rings to attach bolt snaps in over a decade. They tend to dry out over short period of times and will break. Plus when attaching them with a zip tie / cable tie, it can add undo stress the the hose itself. The philosophy of entanglement hazards is a great one to follow, but sometimes we go way over board and we forget about practicality. I have found that using cave line is more versatile, not only can I adjust it, it also allows the bolt snap to swivel more freely.

  • @svenbrettschneider1363
    @svenbrettschneider1363 5 років тому

    And why not just using a cable tie?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  5 років тому +2

      That is always an option. Over the years though I have found that as hose expand and contract as we pressurize them, they acquire quite a bit of damage from a cable tie. Using the line allows for expansion with out compromising the integrity of the hose.
