Thank you so much for showing people what kind of cutting device a pro diver is using. No 2 feet long super mega rambo knife hanging on each of your legs plus one underwater chainsaw on your chest d-ring. No. One small little ezeecut. Razor sharp. Able to cut almost anything with no effort and safe to use sice there is no blade exposed to diver's clumsy hands. That's it. I love that. You don't need anything else. Ok, my sister is also using small but strong pair of scissors hidden in sheath on her left arm. It is better for cutting fishing lines. Ezeecut is quickly loosing sharpness when used regularly. It is better to keep it sharp for emergency cases.
Thanks, this was super helpful. I just got a bp/w and was scratching my head on how to attach the stuff without being a christmas tree or buying pockets and making it look like a jacket bcd 😂
This is so helpful! I trained on a backplate and wing but don't have my own BC yet -- I wanted to figure out how to add everything else without adding pockets before searching for and buying each piece I need :). Thank you so much!
Thank you so very much James! You've been such an influence to my diving and I have just got my Apeks WTX-D30 as well and have set it up similarly to yours as it just makes sense. Heading out to volunteer for coral restoration work next week. Looking forward to diving the new setup. Dived the Mares XR before so BPWs aren't new to me. I had setup my earlier wing style BCD in a similer way to this before in a very makeshift way and have been enjoying the simplicity of your setup. My GoPro is now my 'DashCam' to just catch the stupidity of other divers 🤣... Jokes aside, both you and Mark have been a great influence to my dive journey, hence the WTX setup... Appreciate it!
James, I have been cave diving for more than 20 years and in that time I have gone through 3 lights. I always used my waist strap to mount the battery pack. Four years ago i bought a dive rite style canister light.. Mounting it on my waist strap I could not reach the on-off switch. Then I had the light bulb of thought come on. My back plate has holes down both sides. I put two worm clamps with small d-rings on the canister and two small clips on the two holes on the back plate starting at the top. The canister goes upside down allowing me to easily turn the light off or on.
Great video James! I have a few questions, firstly could you do a video for your tec set up? Also how much lift do you need in your wing? Perhaps another video? Thanks!
Hi, James! Thenk You for your quick and very useful videos )) For me: I bought apeks shirts with big pockets for wet suit config and installed big pockets on my D6Lite dry suit. I made more then 250 dives, and more then 200 of them in sidemount. I find pokets best solution for me :)
Awesome!!!! Thanks James @diversready. I actually asked a similar question for you to do a video on this during your wing vs backplate setup. Awesome. Keep it coming!!!
Been diving a BP and Wing for 20 years. I’m pretty much set up exactly like you have shown except my octo is on a necklace (made of bungee) around my neck. It sits right under my chin out of the way. If I have to share air, I will give my primary reg. I always know where it is, because it’s in my mouth, and I always know where my octo is because it is right under my chin. Simply lift it into my mouth - no looking for it or struggling to pull the hose out of wherever it’s mounted. I have never had a problem with this set up. The only other thing that I have different is a lift bag rolled up under the back of the BP where you have the safety sausage.
Thanks for the Quick Tip helpful starting point. Was wondering if you could do a similar video on setting up /accessorizing a back inflate BCD. I have just got a Zeagle Ranger LTD and am struggling to not look like a Christmas Tree. Lots of D-Rings and options on the BCD but would love to see how you would set-up a similar BCD
I'd love to see a video on your expert opion/advice on where your backplate/wing should sit. How high or low and about where the tank valve should be located. Setting up a new rig and would love to know your take on it.
Awesome video !!! I have one question though. The octo drives me nuts when it’s just dangling under my arm or In front of me. Can you suggest any other way to secure it that is nice and tidy ? Right now I fold the hose and put it in a D ring. I completely understand that may not be good for the hose in the long run but that’s the only solution I have right now
You could attach a 4 or 6mm bungee to your computer and compass instead of the band you use there. I did it and I'm very happy about I because it's way easier and faster to put it on my wrist. Just a small idea and keep going like that👍
Thanks James, o it of interest, is there any reason you don’t have a reel/dsmb solution the already has the two joined together? I’m just getting back into diving and that’s something I used to use, just wondered if I’m missing a reason not to do it? Or is it dependant on reel choice ie just not ideal for the specific reel you use?! Ta
Since you are building your dream dive locker could you give some tips on building a dive locker? What materials/products to use and what features to include?
Hi there ! Do you know where one can buy the shoulder pads you have here ? Are they confortable ? I had a look at Apeks but can't find them. Can be any brand though. Thank you very much !
I prefer the little plastic ones that clip hose versus the ones that wear out the mouth piece. They have suicide clips to the d-rings but they are small and fine for recreational use. My kids use these and I have too but now use a necklace setup.
Hi James, I had the same question as Daniel, Could you make a video on the same idea but on wing style BCD integrated weight?.(I dive with a Zeagle). Hugs.
A tech instructor taught me that the proper place for the DSMB is clipped to the butt D-ring of the harness(back of crotch strap). I have bungee around it so it doesn't dangle much.
I dive up in Indiana. So I have to wear wetsuits. What is the best way to add weight pockets. I have two on my cylinder and two on my waist straps on my backplate & wing. Please help with the best places to attach these. In Miami with steel cylinders I don’t need any weight.
Excellent!! Thank you....I had already modeled much of my rig from stealing glimpses of yours in the Divers Ready catalog of videos. I do like my octo on a necklace and I've come up with a bungee solution for my compass so I don't have to wear it all the time but can still have it with me. Do you find the inflator hose a little long and dangley when your in trim? I've wondered about making mine a little more tucked into my body but still easy to access.
I used to do the same with bungeeing the smb to the backplate. While diving cold water with drygloves and trying to get the smb out it got pushed through one of the bungees so that it was almost impossible to get loose. Also why not have the smb and reel as one unit?
I guess it depends on how easily it can slide off the strap and be lost when you are kitting up/down. I wouldn't trust canvas loops without also adding a chunky weight stopper on the strap.
@@dclangst yes, since you use a harness, it's the common way, but I wanna know why he didn't use that way :S (maybe he just forgot about it) I'm curious.
Hey, I'm thinking about how to setting up my first own regulator. And I would like to use a strap at the second stage that goes around my neck so my buddy can just take my second stage from me and I can use the strapped one. How should I make that? Yellow for the strapped one or for the one in my mouth (which I want him to take)?
Put shaving foam in your mask then wipe it off. It stops the mask from misting up. You could also spit in it but shaving foam works better and is more readily available than anti mist stuff that you can buy online.
I have seen divers show proper trim but never seen a how to adjust trim, where, how and affects of weight . So in other words a how to adjust trim in the water not on a work bench
Thank you for no-BS to the point videos. I can't stand people who ramble on and on. 👏
I took the plunge on some tec shorts. They cost way more than they should but it keeps things clean.

This is incredibly helpful, esp the DSMB mount, thanks James.
Thanks, this was super helpful. I just got a bp/w and was scratching my head on how to attach the stuff without being a christmas tree or buying pockets and making it look like a jacket bcd 😂
Amazing content! Mounted my DSMB in the very same point, gonna test it later to see if I can reach it properly mid-dive
I love your quick tips, thank you. I travel to dive and would love to see your configuration of your save a dive travel kit.
Thanks for making this video. I just picked up a BPW system and came directly to your video to see how you mounted the accessories. Great content!
Thanks James, practical tips that make my life easier and also simply explained. Good job, good channel. I would happily recommend it.
I am a new diver thanks for sharing..👍👍👍
Thanks James, awesome information for newer divers that are still getting used to their equipment, while adding new accessories.
Great video! I was specifically looking for tips on securing the emergency float and like you, I wanted it tight and not flopping around
This is so helpful! I trained on a backplate and wing but don't have my own BC yet -- I wanted to figure out how to add everything else without adding pockets before searching for and buying each piece I need :). Thank you so much!

Love the video, the bungees is a great idea might have to try it!
I agree, what size bungee? Looks like 1/4 or 1/8th inch?
@@HavikenHayes to be honest I’m not sure, I’m probably gonna go with 1/4 simply because there is a spool lying around the shop I work at!
Thanks for putting this together and listening to your fan base please show us your tech setup
Another great video, you are making me really consider going with a backplate and wing set up.
Always great helpful videos!
New subscriber like the way you mounted the marker with bungee will have to do that great simple ideas thanks
Super useful information 👌
Fantastic video
Love that bungee trick for the dsmb! Gonna try it soon :)
Awesome! I just ordered that gopro strap! :D
excellent!
Cool video James, I'm looking at getting a B/W setup, so very informative.
You remind me of Mark at simply scuba, he loves his Boltsnaps Lol.
Thanks. When you did the video on plate diving you mentioned the stuff you carried but no method. Great help!

Exactly right.

Your thoughts on chest strap, vs no chest strap?
Do you have a video of your tech set up?
Never heard of a buddy reel. What for is the use of it? (instead of your "normal" reel)

great tips. Why the inflator hose off to the side like that?
I just moved it so I could show more on camera.
Hey James, just wondering what thickness bungee you used to attach your DSMB? Thanks
I know you posted your question 3 years ago but did you ever find an answer to this? Thanks
Where do you place the weights?
what about reef hook with pouch?
James, just curious what's the maximum distance (hight) you have jumped from into the water for a scuba dive?
Probably about 50ft... from a helicopter!
@@DiversReady Over 15 metres!!! & from a helicopter!!! That is so cool - was it videoed?
good video. Why not just keep your knife on your webbing to the left of the buckle, standard DIR style?
