The tree at 4:55 is white oak (Quercus alba). The oaks you cut in the first video with the Ripsaw guys were red oak (Quercus rubra). The plant growing all over the ground is Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) - PA forester. That 500i is zippy. Thank you for sharing.
I could watch this guy all day❤ some days the message is right on point and puts my mind in check this community is the best love to all. Be Kind hope your well Ewan❤
Great job cutting the pa wood. That is a rip snorter of saw. EWAN prayers being sent to you, your family and your surgical team. Rest up praying for a quick recovery as well. Be well ❤
Prayers for Ewan. Keep your head up. Love, Faith, and Hope. Keep these in your heart as you move forward. This will help you in your fight. Buckin, that 500I is an animal. It is so smooth. Idle, cut and Buck. I think Ripsaw has done a great job with that saw,but I also agree Stihl did some work on their side too. I can't wait till you get one of the new 500I . Take care.
Growing up in Pennsylvania we called those bamboo leaf ( elephant ears ) good times great video love the saw and your ability to tell a tell about ever tree you cut down thanks for all the information you give in these videos
Ash borer has done a job on PA Ash trees. Many local services will not touch them if their dead for a while for fear of dead branches dropping while felling.
Howdy mr.bucken, man that saw with that exhaust is something else for sure and yes them big dead limbs ar just waiting for some good vibrations to let loose, good trees for a lookout for sure!!! News flash move over crabbers the loggers got the more treacherous occupation!!! Have you ever heard of widowmaker crabs!!!!??? No offense crabbers!!!! Great tutorial as always!!! When I was young and just starting out my mentor told me you will learn something from every man you work with and its true !!!!! We have two hands-- one to help ourselves and one to help others!!!! Pleasure as always!! Sierra.John
That tree looks like a white oak from what I can tell. A white oak can be standing dead for years and still be solid as if it were still alive. Love the saw. Keep on buckin...
Your a test pilot Buckin !! 😃 We only seek improvement ! Not perfection ! So it appears to me that the W coast of the island is still rain forest and probably has old growth. I've been in Victoria in the mid 80's for a few hours went to the gardens . Given how sunny and dry it appears at your place, I've thought it would be wetter. Wish you'd have asked the Rip Saw lads where they got their 2 cycle experience , there work appears very professional. Pretty decent video !
Looks like old Buckin is cutting some white oak in my state. Thats good firewood right there. Burns hot. We cut a lot of it. The verneer logs go for barrel staves. My favorite species to cut but it likes to barberchair.
Help me out, why would veneer logs go for staves, I get white oak for them since it ages well/rot resistant. I thought white oak too, but then I saw the wedge and the holes in the bark, so my guess is ash. But, it sure did hold together nice for ash. Need to watch on my computer later, phones pretty small.
Love my 500i. It was giving me problems on the hot restart during those 5 minute water breaks or re fueling and was a 30+ pull restart. After going into the shop twice I'm waiting on a replacement. But when the saw runs I love it. I need me some pipes for her though
Great video. Lighting was different over there in the US. Pretty sure that was dead ash, those bore holes in the trunk were probably the old EAB and again, yep japanese knotweed, spreads like wildfire.... 👍
Wow, yeah that saw rips, you sure can hear the difference in that 500i compared to yours. That is very interesting! And as always, wow amazing work dropping that tree like you did. Thank you! And Ewan buddy, hang in there we are thinking about you and hoping, wishing the best for you! You got this, sorry for what you are going through, stay strong little buddy!
That's definitely a white oak. Those thing will hold like crazy. But greened out white oaks will barber chair if tried to pull that much on the stump. Just food for thought. Buckin you have taught me so so much! Much love and many prayers for safety brother!!! Keep on rippin!
Sounds like that saw is Happy Big Time Buckin....Wow Man....plus its breaking in now....Im contemplating getting my 500i done by your boys at RipSaw???
Yeah, I'm a Stihl guy, but I appreciate the love for Huskies. I think it's just a preference if all the emotion is taken out... and then it comes down to chain sharpness
Bark looks like oak and the fibers look like it's red oak. I make a lot of wood projects from it. It holds up well, but you have to wet it multiple times to raise the grain until it stops doing that.
Need you sum Kentucky,West Virginia,Virginia,Tennessee Trees. Love see you cut some deep mountain trees, by the way The Guts you punched out of that trees that's A white oak Very Valuable Wood When they are big down here
I thought white oak but would have to have a closer look. Mixed oak or perhaps Burr oak? Anyway, how in the world do you stay out of the ticks! I can’t get in the woods without being swarmed by them! The tiny tiny ones! Great video…as always. Thanks to you I am better than I was with a saw! Way better and safer!
Had a coworker that used to be in the army and he used flea and tick collars around the ankles of his BDUs. Not kidding. EWAN, Godspeed on your recovery bud.
Well Buckin', nickname for that saw could be "Psychic" it knows what you're gonna do before you do, lol.. will say a few words for your friend at supper time in the U.K. Be safe Pardner... 👍😎
I think stihl keep the tune a little bit rich on the begginig of the 500i and now they potencialy lean a bit the tune on the computer! I think but not sure! And the muffler makes a huge diference! sounds like a dirt bike!💪💪
The good ole STIHL O84 were 123cc, and they ran like a strong 125. Porting, filter kit etc. They were monsters in the back in the day, in the big wood.
Damn buckin, I don't think I've ever in my life heard a saw run that clean and crisp. I know you are not a huge fan of the big stihls but I could see this one changing your ways!
That looks like a dead white oak to me. Do I see a new Stihl wedge banger on you? Real happy we don't have that knotweed yet here in Central PA. It looks like it could choke out everything.
That was a dead oak and I definitely heard the crack of the saw you were in my front yard but I didn't know you were there or I would have came and said hello I love watching your videos

it is crispy dead red oak which is the firewood of choice here on the east coast of the usa, it splits like butter if there is no knots and hold moisture like a sponge and burns hot and long if seasoned properly although it is not even close to the best firewood species here on the east coast of the usa which would be black locust. red oak smells slightly like vinegar or ketchup where white oak which has a completely different bark smells more buttery and nutty
Hmmm , I don't know.... we see a lot of those here in Canada East (QC) White Ash... If you see grub trails under the bark, that's the emerald ash borer eating the cambium layer from the top down.....leaves D shaped holes when they molt and exit.... We've taken down thousands of trees like this.......and yes very similar to oak in color and texture. Later in the video......better closeup of the bark, resembles oak more than ash.....
Everyone keeps saying "Stihl has changed something with this 500i." Well of course they did! And they will continue to do so. That is how things are made better. I cannot think of ANY first run production models of ANY KIND OF PRODUCT, that comes out of the gate without any further advancements in development!
The cut off saw and chainsaw are 100% different, ts500i was used for the injection test bed but that’s it. The saw has the injection between the throttle body and cylinder. Concrete saw has injection in bottom of case.

Thank you Buckin for all your tips my ts700 is running so good now that I know how to tune it properly making short work on my brick cutting!!!
Buckin,

That looks just like the oak we get here in the UK. Man that 500i sounds good..
Ash borer has done a job on PA Ash trees. Many local services will not touch them if their dead for a while for fear of dead branches dropping while felling.
Green ash turns into breadsticks.. gotta be careful with em
Give me a break. All dead trees pose problems. You must have pussy tree cutters out there.
I live in Arkansas. I have 2 ash trees in my back yard. So far they haven't been raided...hopefully they won't. I just have to keep an eye on them.
Saw sounds like my yz 250 when they still made good bikes. Yes I like the 2 strokes.
Sound is great. Reminds me of an '80s Honda CR 250.
Bought a 661, love the way they are calibrated.
That saw sounds so sweet
Sounds freakin great
Awesome footage thanks for sharing

The lumber makes good axe handles & hockey sticks.
AWESOME firewood!
It's good to see you out your comfort zone Buckin'. Still professional as ever. And as for that 500i......
It's alive.
Sure glad that the under growth isn't as tall as you seem to have there. I'd be in trouble! ❤ Love to you and the Fam.

Red oak has a very distinct smell when you cut it green and slightly less when dead/ dry. Or the ones in Alabama do

Stihl recommends using the purge primer after a refill if your having issues with restarting
Let it idle for 20-30 seconds after long runs BEFORE YOU SWITCH IT OFF, it’ll start every time.
I’m amazed at how you swung that tree almost 90°.

NICE SAW
I would throw away every saw I own for THAT saw! Or it's twin!
Just prime!!

Welcome to the East Coast. Everything grows here in tight pockets. You have to fight your way to the tree through ivy and thorns

So what belt rig are you wearing?
that saw sounds amazing. Just picked up a ms400 for firewood last week and so far i really like it
Great to hear!
Looks like Ash. By the bark Emerald ash bore killed it.
That looks like a dead white oak to me. Do I see a new Stihl wedge banger on you? Real happy we don't have that knotweed yet here in Central PA. It looks like it could choke out everything.

So i am about to get the 500I for tree business. What all did you do to that saw to make it run like that.
I hope that’s not poison oak at the beginning!!
The cameraman has a really great vantage point!
definitely red oak Billy
Who built this saw? What was done with it?
The bamboo stuff looks like Japanese knot weed. It never dies just spreads.
it is crispy dead red oak which is the firewood of choice here on the east coast of the usa, it splits like butter if there is no knots and hold moisture like a sponge and burns hot and long if seasoned properly although it is not even close to the best firewood species here on the east coast of the usa which would be black locust. red oak smells slightly like vinegar or ketchup where white oak which has a completely different bark smells more buttery and nutty
MY EXPERIENCE AS WELL
Hickory is the best choice in PA for firewood hands down burns the hottest well next to osage orange if you can find it then oak
The hinge fiber looks like ash but the bark looks like white oak

Definitely red oak... hard as a coffin nail and stringy... split a bunch of it with a stihl pro forestry axe a few years back... what a workout
be kind!
OH ALRIGHT 😁
Everyone keeps saying "Stihl has changed something with this 500i."
Well of course they did!
And they will continue to do so.
That is how things are made better.

Especially when the 500i been around since 2012 in cutoff saw configuration then 2018 in chainsaw
The cut off saw and chainsaw are 100% different, ts500i was used for the injection test bed but that’s it. The saw has the injection between the throttle body and cylinder. Concrete saw has injection in bottom of case.
@@christopherlehman4045 The concept was there they took and made a chainsaw out of 6 years later
I understand how it works but they are 100% different in every way and parts don’t interchange
Also the first injected saw was the Stihl carbon concept they built of a heavily modified ms441
Thumbs up for BBR eh 👍
The first 500i I heard, I didn’t like and Buckin yours sounded just like the first one I heard. This newer one sounds awesome.
