    Amazing to see the 'Julienne', family growing with you.
    A great name for this avocado and so fitting, although I'll always think of it according to its location in London....
    Thanks for the update on your journey with this tree......and giving the history of it coming from East Street, what happened to it in general and how you know Julienne herself and the family.
    The tree should be officially protected and will surely outlast any other changes that might occur on the area over time.

      I thought it would be nice to share with you all the history of this special Avocado tree growing and fruiting here in London.
      The family are so lovely and the name of the Avocado ‘Julienne’ after the owner who planted it, I definitely feel it’s fitting.
      I’m so happy I’ve been able to graft some of my own, and hopefully in years to come they’ll fruit for me 😀

    What a wonderful story, and how fitting that the tree is named after her.

    Joe, this information is so valuable. So often growers, farmers and botanists can get caught up in hypotheticals without 'testing'. The Julienne story shows that even when everyone and everything says something isn't possible, it is still worth trying. This is a great example of "just try and see". Community growing experiences are so much value in them, thanks for taking the time to get to know the family and sharing the story online. I can only wonder how many bizarre, community growing experiences like this one have gone undocumented!

      Hey Peppe, I agree with you whole heartedly. The Julienne story is a personal story that has now impacted so many people who have come across this amazing tree.
      The example of "just try and see" should be in every gardeners mindset… and that’s why I like to document videos like this. To hopefully inspire others to have a try too 😀🌱🥑

    Excellent video Joe, I will share. The story of Julienne buying the Avocado from East Street Market just flooded me with memories because my grandmother who would be 120 years old this year used to drag me to east street market with her every Saturday. I loved it, because I was treated to delicious tasting Baldwins Sarsaparilla from a shop on Walworth Road near to east street. Happy days!🤩

    Your grafts are looking really good, Joe! I loved hearing about the history of the tree. Julienne sounds like a lovely lady, it is definitely fitting that it is named after her 🙌
    It is such a special tree, I'm so glad a few of us have been able to get some grafts to take. I really want to take good care of my little trees, I was so pleased to see new growth coming out of the first one a few weeks ago, and I think one of my others is getting ready to push out soon too 🤞

      Thanks Peter. I’m so pleased my grafts have taken and flushing out new growth.
      Julienne is indeed a lovely lady, and her adult children are equally nice. It was lovely to meet up with them and get to know them a little bit better.
      I’m so grateful she told me the history behind the tree, so that I was able to share on this video.
      Im really pleased your grafts have taken. As the weather warms up they should really take off 🌱😀

      Wow! a cult following across the pond.
      It’s great that it’s getting the recognition and I’m sure Julienne would be proud to know her tree which she planted two decades ago is admired also in the states.

      Home grown can taste very different. I think the commercial growers often pick the avocados as soon as they think they can sell them whereas home grown ones can hang for months longer and the oil can develop. I am a big fan of local varieties because we get to choose what we like instead of the commercial industry choosing what they can sell. For example they choose Gwen decades ago but switched and did away with the Gwen orchards because they didn't sell as well because everyone was used to black Hass avocados by the 80s. Among SoCal growers Gwen is one of their all time favorites but it is one the industry would rather completely forget about.

    • @joestropicals6760
      @joestropicals6760  4 місяці тому +1

      @@growyourownavocados your right about being able to enjoy the local varieties and enjoying them at there peek ripeness, rather than having the store bought, bog standard and picked way to early fruit.
      You guys are blessed to have such a choice of Avocados in SoCal 😀☀️

    • @growyourownavocados
      @growyourownavocados 4 місяці тому

      @joestropicals6760 I agree SoCal is blessed! I grew up down there but live in the North now near SF. It seems that since there wasn't a huge presence of avocado orchards here lots of people grew from seeds (as my grandmothers did in LA and the Philippines) and we are slowly finding them.
      I will send some Lamorinda budwood to Peter next year and hopefully others in the future. Lamorinda I think would be perfect for the UK since it is located in a cold spot in Lafayette.

    Great success there. I'm looking forward to seeing how they'll do in the future.
    Great story also, love the naming too. There are a few avocado trees in London right? And naming it after the person who planted it makes it less confusing and more accurate.
    Pruning causes stress and stress is often a reason for a tree to go into survival mode thus invests in making offspring in case the tree itself doesn't make it.

      Hey @Kristofp72, thank you my friend.
      I really wanted to share the story and honour the owner who grew this fantastic tree 🥑
      Yes you are correct, there are a number of large avocado trees in London, but only one that I know fruits.
      You are right in regards to pruning causing stress and subsequent fruiting to reproduce itself for survival.

    It's great to see you grafts doing so well Joe. Its a timely warning to potential growers that it took an avocado seed well over 20 years to reach flowering maturity lol, not ideal for somebody of my age 😅

    • @joestropicals6760
      @joestropicals6760  4 місяці тому +3
