      I have a 1989 Corvette and the two sunvisors are not very well so I’m thinking of rebuilding them or buying rebuilt ones what is your suggestion?

      Most jobs you need a heavy sewing machine for, you can do with an awl and some leather. It's a matter of what kind of finish you want, and if you're willing to invest the time to get it right.

    Hi, loved the video. I’m going to redo my husbands truck visors. Can I do this with a regular sewing machine? If so what type of needles do I need. and what foot ? thinking walking foot? Thanks

Looks like I’ll do whatever I can (taking the template, cutting it to dimensions and folding) and give it for the final stitching to some competent guy. Thanks a lot for the video.

      You say flimsy, if it doesn't fold properly the internals might be broken. Check out a wreckers for a replacement.

    Great job,but what if you don't want the stitch to be visible? I'd like to recover my visors so that they look like the original ones. REVOLUTION!!

      Hello Peter, Thank you so much! If you don't want a stitch, you can just use contact adhesive glue, not the stuff in the spray can. The stitching will keep things tighter though. Please keep watching!

    1. What we do if we dont have an industry grade sewing machine? 2. I dont like the polyurethan foam on the back. It is this PU foam that go bad on the first place and turns into sticky yucky gueouey. I like the polyethylene foam This is the one that has closed pores.

    Hi my question is 96 Cherokee XJ overhead counole The little tip that sticks out that snaps into the clip that is secure as the wiper in place to the roof has broke off my visor My visor is shorter than all the other regular XJ's without counsel mine does have a council how do I put that little nub back on so I can lock my wiper back in I'm afraid cut apart and I haven't been able to find those wipers anymore help please any information will be greatly appreciated thank you so much your video is awesome I'm getting a lot of ideas from watching and I heard you say you can make them any size you want and I ain't a really short

      Hello 1Jim, Thank you so much for saying so! As far as the piece that broke off, I would drill out the center and insert a steel pin both sides. Then use super glue to glue it back together, or even plastic weld it. Please keep liking and watching!

      @@oldschoolautoupholstery I thought about that when it first happened and I had the the piece in my glove box so when I was able to I was going to repair it My vehicle got stolen it was a mint condition and I got it back a month later and of course well means to say I may have to try another option to repair that thinking maybe just pull apart a full size sun visor out of one of those Cherokee XJ's cut it down and cuz I need to redo the headliner and my visors and do something crazy but I liked your technique wow man I think me being a master certified automotive technician that's my calling this upholstery is definitely your calling I've been watching your videos wow and thank you for getting back to me so rapidly I have a body of mine his name is Paul Martinez we live in in Denver Colorado My buddy Paul and yourself share some of the same crazy zany facial expression keep up the good work my brother and thank you for being you stay safe and helping not only for yourself but for your family and for everyone you come in contact with I started smiling and talking to every morning and everyone I mean everyday I'm probably about four years ago and some people look at me cuz I am crazy and some people thank me cuz tomorrow is not guaranteed and you never know who's life you can affect so enjoy life have fun and I'm more than one thing never let you smile be changed by the world let your smile change the world ciao for now

      @@oldschoolautoupholstery I looked it up. Don't think that's the size, as lower numbers are thicker ( 50,60 are thin and 8, 10 are heavy). But haven't seen those numbers on a spool. 🙃 But I'll look into upholstery thread, whatever the size. Thanks again.

      @@patsmith5236 To tell you the truth, for 40 years I never looked at the size. I just knew that the thickness looked right. (Our secret) I just knew the clothing-type thread was much thinner. Just in the last year, people have asked for a size number.

    @12:30 May I ask, what glue it is in that spray bottle? I'm updating my sun visors and this film was really helpful. When I disassembled right visor, the chipboard came in 3 pieces, but after this film I realized that the middle part just got disconnected, and actually I need to cut out one piece (not 2 connected in the middle w/another small strip). Thank you very much for this detailed film.

      @@oldschoolautoupholstery Hello Sir. I see, so contact glue, I'll look for it next time I replace headliner. I replaced it 1 year ago and exactly, that spray can glue didn't last, it started to come out already. For a meanwhile I'll just put those Rivets Repair Buttons to keep it in better condition. And it is very hard to work w/that can glue, it is very sticky and no way to redo, if you placed in a wrong position. Thank you for the replay.

      @@oldschoolautoupholstery Absolutely! I'd actually love to love to get some basic competency in upholstery, closest I've gotten is some leatherwork that I sewed by hand. The cut and glue stuff isn't nearly as intimidating to me as the actual sewing, I'm at least planning on doing my peeling and ciggie burned truck headliner at some point 👍

    Great job!!! I've watched several videos on how to do this, but your way is so much simpler and cleaner than all those other videos!! LOL, I did an old truck's visors as they were hanging down falling apart in my face. They look terrible, but they weren't in my face anymore!! !! LOL But after watching this, I think I can redo them and make them look decent! A big thanks!!!! Question, what walking foot machine are you using? Looks nice, and you do such a great job with it.

    Thanks for another lesson from the master. The old visors from the Trans Am are just cardboard, they will be re-done with chip board. I just replaced the window in a canvas top, I looked for a video from your channel but didn't see one. I took my time since I only had one chance to get it right and smiled when I headed around the last turn and headed down the home stretch. What a teacher you are, professor. Thank you for being an inspiration.

    Just realized that if the backside is flush all around after you glue the material down & fold it over that it can be glued instead of stitched. Just have to use some really good glue so it doesn't separate down the road.
