    Thank you for this. I am an evaluator, and this is great to show handlers what to expect during the test.

    *me* studying for this test instead of my actual exams.
    Oh yeah....I'm totally ready for this

      Haha! I hope you passed both your exams AND the AKC Good Citizen😉🐾😁. Taking 10-15 minute "training" or play breaks with your dog is a good way to reduce your own exam prep stress!

    Where can one find evaluators? I have identified evaluators in our area and all require you to take a foundation class first. That is fine--I would like to take a foundation class. However, they all insist on using positive punishment as part of teaching the class. They use shock collars, pinch collars, choke collars, etc. I am simply unwilling to do this. The "best" I can find uses "leash jerks". I've got an 8 pound dog. I refuse to jerk my 8 pound dog around, there should be no need for that.

    Am I allowed to give my dog commands throughout like leave it or stay? I'm taking the CGC tomorrow with my German shepherd. Thanks!

      I'd like to know the answer to this, too. How did your test go?

    • @cabbie9727
      @cabbie9727 7 років тому +9

      Take Zer0 She passed! For us, the trainer told me when it was okay to tell her to leave it or stay. The test is actually really short.

    Excellent video and information. I took the CGC class with my dog, he did not pass. The class was only practicing the test for multiple class times and didn't cover how to train to the passing behavior/test points. Is there a way I can re-test when my dog is ready without paying for and attending the course again? The training site was not helpful with this question and said they could not re-test my dog.

      That is up to the evaluator. We will sometimes test at no cost. I suggest finding another evaluator, perhaps someone that can assist you with working on those issues.

    I am an AKC-CGC EVALUATOR; I liked your excellent explanations about the CGC Test. Not all dogs pass the test, you might like to add this to your explanations.
    . I like your set-up but the audio was not always very clear .

    Great refresher. I have a new puppy and want to get his CGC. I’ve completed it with my other dog, but that was years ago. A few things we need to work on.

    I have a five month old mixed breed... he is very smart, already learning a variety of commands... but he loves people and other dogs and I can't figure out how to get him to be calm and stay seated when someone comes up. Any tips?

    • @laylas4300
      @laylas4300 7 років тому +2

      It didn't look like it had a BUNCH of fat. I'd say it's just a very big dob that's on the heavier side

    • @melindamercier6811
      @melindamercier6811 7 років тому +5

      He's not overweight at all. He's a European bred Doberman. Very muscular chest and bulkier body overall than the American bred Dobermans.

    • @turtlemancreator1012

      Hes really overweight. His chest is also extreme.

    • @jaegerthedane3245

      Tomi Linette It’s a European Doberman, they are bulkier and have bigger chests than American ones.

    • @turtlemancreator1012
      @turtlemancreator1012 6 років тому +8

      No the dog has no waist at all. Euro Dobermans have deeper chests, yes, but their chest doesnt extend to their hindlegs. There is a huge difference between a deep chest and being a healthy weight.

    Besides Duke having a chain "choke" collar when the test prohibits it, this video was very informative. Thank you so much!

    • @jillowen1325
      @jillowen1325 7 років тому +6

      a choke or chain is allowed. a prong collar is not allowed.

      Yea I have to work with my Doberman on the Heel without Prongs. He is such a good dog but without they he tries to pull. I'm signing up for a 6 week course and I hope we can eventually move to just a slip lead.
