Top Dog Professional Training was founded in 2005 by Adam Gibson. Since then we’ve trained over 3000 dogs including Police K9’s, Service Dogs (Diabetic Alert Dogs, Mobility Assistance Dogs, Autism Assistance Dogs), and every breed from poodle puppies to pit bulls.
Our facility is located just outside of Fort Worth, Texas in the small town of Joshua (sandwiched between Burleson and Cleburne). We serve the entire DFW metroplex, and even have clients come in from surrounding states. We no longer train police K9’s but still specialize in service dogs for those with medical needs.
The training we offer is designed to help you have the relationship you’ve dreamed about with your dog. Our straightforward and easy to understand methods can assist with problem behaviors such as aggression, fear, over excitement, jumping, licking, biting, chewing, etc. and of course we also offer obedience training to teach your dog to do exactly what you say, when you say it.
Our programs are available through group classes, private one on one training, day training, and board and train. We also offer a balanced and structured doggy daycare at our facility to provide a safe outlet for your dog to exercise and socialize.

The dog is more anxious than chill
One of the best videos I’ve seen for this topic. Straight to the point and easy to understand, explained clearly, short enough not to be bored/distracted/have no time, but thorough enough to know expectations fully, easily split per item, A/V quality is professional.
How about a part 2 for like what you would consider to be a borderline disqualification example, like the dog getting up from a down too soon, not waiting long enough, degree of whining or reaction, etc.
thanks for this video. I am getting my 7 month old German Shepherd puppy ready for his cgc test so that he can go on to become a service dog ( not a requirement for a service dog but something i want him to have) and it gave me a good basis for what is expected. there are only like 1 or two things i need to work with him on for this. thank you so much!
Wow. I really like what I see. There are no downsides to a CGC test. I think it can help continue to establish confidence. I'll have to check this out with my new trainer. My cane corso and I just passed with flying colors! I was nervous about the section when I had to leave her with the observer, but she did fine. Yay!
Congratulations! We just had a Cane Corso test with us a couple weeks ago that also passed. Keep up the good work. Have you looked into the CGC Advanced and Urban tests yet?
Such a good dog
I have an 11 month old Rottweiler who will take the test in a few days. The trainers don't think he's ready, but I'm mostly going to see what he lacks skillwise. I think he'll do very well with everything but distraction. He's a good guy and I want him to be an ambassador for the breed.
It's always good to take a trial test to see what is needed and what is no longer needed. I feel like they should do two test the practice and final

@@teyannanecole I did pass, but not that time. He needed about 6 more months of training, and he passed his second test. He's enrolled in service dog school for this coming September.
It was really a matter of just getting more consistency from him, and him growing up a little more. He was a much calmer dog after 6 months, because I think as a Rottie he had too much drive and needed to mellow out. A lot of his training has been to just chill and be quiet, and be polite after that. He's a little too well-socialized, almost, cause he wants to say to everybody, because everybody is going to tell him he's handsome and pet him.
Real good temperament on my guy, but probably still a little hot by service dogs standards and cool by Rottie standards.
You've got to know your dog. My guy is really smart but really still thinks like a puppy, and that gives me room to keep laying his foundation. Because once he matures at 18 months to a year, he's going to be a solid service dog.
@Droemar great, congrats! I'm always rooting for the big strong breeds as they're always seen as a threat. People typically change sides of the sidewalk when I'm walking my Corso. We've been CGC titled and I'm working on getting her to be my service dog.

Me and my sdit are back to using some of your videos to help with training! I got pretty sick so we had to stop training and we may as well be back to square one but we are moving forward! He is great at alerts and aiding during a meltdown but the basics and other tasks are just not where I wish they were. The videos on here really help though!

I'm planning on my Doberman taking it. I have a bit more to train before I feel he is ready. His recall needs work and he walks ahead of me a smidgen (I'm 5'0" and he out paces me) so I'm planning on Hiring a trainer to get him onto shape.
Good Dog
Tobi can greet and be pet by strangers. His appearance is pretty good over all and allows his ears and feet to be handled. We have to do a little more work on the loose lead, but I'm wondering how loose it needs to be. We've got walking through a crowd down pact. Sit and down are excellent. Stay is being worked on. He LOVES recall. Don't know if he can yet go that long with a dog that close. The puppy tends to take over. Should be excellent at the distraction test, as we have started public access training a good while ago.
And he would FAIL the 2 minute without mama test. It's slow work due to maturity issues. I chose to work on the things that are less frustrating to him while we do super short patience sessions. He is now capable of waiting to get out of the car with no leash, but still explodes when the ok is given (I have five acres to train on and my parents have 50)

CGC gives owners a mark to try for and can help keep them in obedience classes. MOST dog owners never take all of 1 basic class... and it shows if you are at all skilled!
Any tips for an older dog with bad arthritis, poor hearing and vision and possibly new onset dementia?
oh my god if this dog passed then my dog definitely can. I am still in intermediate class and next is advanced but the skills we learn are already more advanced than this.
Yes the CGC should be looked at as a relatively basic class. Most of those passing our basic course are able to pass this test before moving on to intermediate.
@@TopDogProfessionalTraining very interesting. Thanks for the reply. We are working on CGC for our GSD. The training program we are doing they do CGC at the end of the advanced class which is 18 total weeks of training (6 each for basic, intermediate and advanced). This lead me to believe CGC would be much harder. Is there anything above CGC for harder skills but still for obedience and not service animals?
@@CGagnon5 yes - there is now Urban CGC, and there are always additional programs and training routes available like rally obedience, obedience, and more.
One of my dogs does all of this without training, my other dogs not so much.

With the CKC and the timed separation, is the handler allowed to say anything to the dog before leaving, like “I’ll be right back?”
Yes they are allowed to say whatever they’d like. Some folks just opt for a simple “stay” but others might use something a little more complex.

And is there a specific age they can take it
No clue about age, but the CGC can be obtained by any dog, registered or not, purebred or not. I've known 5 month old puppies who got their CGC.

There are no breed restrictions, and a dog must be at least 1 year old. (This is from the AKC CGC site. Perhaps the other person is thinking of the AKC Puppy S.T.A.R. program, a program often taken before the CGC though not required.)

No - your dog cannot be on a gentle leader. It must be on a flat collar, choke chain, or non-restrictive harness.
@@k9kiddos767 I do t think it can be on a choke chain. The evaluator manual says no corrective devices and a choke chain is a corrective collar.
@@Capturing_SausageIt doesn't have to be a perfect heel. Controlled and no pulling, yes, but it doesn't have to be perfect.

Nope not at all. It's open to all breeds purebred, mixed, etc.

Kimberly Gill anyone can have a therapy dog ❤️ We are currently training our puppy to do therapy dog at hospitals and such. She’s just a puppy so it’ll be awhile till she’s ready but we are starting early

I have to ask WHY I would hand my well behaved, well trained dog (pure breed or not) to a stranger and walk away? ESPECIALLY when there are SO MANY pets that are stolen (see Craigslist on any given day).
I myself would be VERY WORRIED as I left, and INCONSOLABLE if I came back to find the stranger gone WITH my dog!
We've had our (CA street dog) 6 yr old miniature pinscher/chihuahua for a year and she's an absolute gem of a dog. Always gets compliments, super smart (learns quickly) and EXTREMELY quiet. I am nervous about wanting her to mix with other dogs, which I feel that she should.
These trainers have standards they're upheld to; they're not someone of the street. And as someone who is public access training their dog, I think this exercise is useful. I won't always have my eyes on her busy shopping or doing whatever so I need to know she'd be cool. Also it's a good exercise to see if the dog has separation anxietythat may cause them to bark incessantly, bothering other tenants, or destroy a rental property
Yeah true, I’d much rather my dog not be taught to be fine being held by a stranger. That is an outdated training requirement
The only test I'm sure our Dobie will not pass is staying still while meeting a new dog. He gets super excited and wants to sniff their butts. 😢

I would seriously reconsider how the handler is training her dog and dog's motivation.The dog does not wag his tail and is not happy to do commands. The dog even show signs of fear or anxiety doing the commands. I have a shelter dog, so I know how chalenging it is to train and adult dog but when you use positive training with motivations then the dog will enjoy training and be happy about it. This dog looks like he was forced to do commands during training and therefore doesnt enjoy them.
This dog was trained using clicker training, which is considered to be pretty much the most positive way of training currently practiced. He is one of the most mellow and low key dogs I've met out of the literal thousands I've trained. He's never been a hardcore tail wagger, or super bouncy, he's always just been kind of low and slow even with his favorite treats or toys. He's the type of dog that is pretty content to just lay around all day. Although I will say that he always gets a little excited when he shows up for training classes so it's clear that he does enjoy his training. Maybe just not in the way you are used to seeing it. Super calm dogs are often mistaken for super depressed dogs. Most folks are used to over excited dogs that lack in impulse control so they don't know exactly what to think when they meet a dog that is as calm as this one.
i agree with top dog, his dog isn't anxious, he's just focused on being a very good boy.
you have no idea what you're talking about. All dogs are different. My Tamaskan behaves the same way in class but wags his tail a bunch at home. The test scenario is just stressful for some dogs just like tests are sometimes stressful for humans. Doesn't mean the dog was not trained properly or forced to do commands.
