- In this week's lesson Nick takes us through his approach to authentic sounding double time punk beats.
While on face value they may just seem like 'play it faster', but there's a fair few dynamic challenges that arise when getting these up to speed.

Thanks for the tips. I haven't played punk music in like 20 years and when I did recently, I just put the hh on 1 and 3 with the bass drum to stop that sticking dilemma. I'll try the technique you suggested when I'm not sick in bed 😢
I call that Moeller…I was taught that push/pull is a similar motion (…one stroke on the down and another on the up)but pushing and pulling only with the fingers.
I am working on my 16s at the moment. Moeller and stuff. And I like punk besides hiphop, jazz, and funk. That lesson really comes handy. I also like the crash course on the playing the crash at the end. Makes total sense to me. Perhaps I can impress my teacher a little biddy. Thanks for that. ❤
Really glad you found it helpful, thanks for watching 👍
9:53 Jim Chapin used to call them Moeller up and down strokes.
This beat is called Crust or D-Beat.
I call it push pull lol
