About bloody time you showed the amp1 to the public! I replaced my marshall as my main gigging amp with this last year basically because it sounded way better than it and it is so easy to use,and so portable! Met Thomas last month and he is not only an amazing player but a very friendly man.TOP BLOKE !
The new Mercury and iridium editions of the Amp 1 are even better, smoother and creamier! Captain, redeem yourself and do a better interview in 2021. Thomas Blug is a great guitar player and a genius designer.
What an incredible engineering accomplishment at this price point. And hearing first hand from the innovator himself? Jennifer Batten travels and plays around the world and this is her go to piece of hardware, she swears by it. Well done Andertons having Thomas Blug come into your shop for this video. Brilliant~!
had the privilege of hosting Thomas recently at our pub ,,,you couldn't meet a nicer guy ,,,he played for three hours ,,absolutely superb !!! and the Amp1 you really should hear this thing !!!! no mic just the Amp1 and NANO CAB in a three piece,,,wow ,,,,ive owned a Amp1 for two years playing in bands myself so no all about this gear ,but to hear it in his hands was brilliant !!!! he also played that vintage guitar ,they're a signature guitar for £ 400 ,,,all standard no mods ,,,what a sound !!!
The AMP1 is the best new bit of guitar gear I've ever seen. 99% of guitar stuff is hype and gimmickry you don't even need. I sometimes gig at high volume with AMP1 like it's an acoustic gig. Plug into the shared backline, off you go...
After their terrible review/demo of the Iridium, they should have Thomas back on the channel and have him match the amp1 to their favorite amps (beforehand) and then do a blindfold challenge.
Many dont give Thomas Blug enough credit (or know of him) for his contribution to the advancement of guitar gear. He should be spoken of in the same league as Marshall, Holdsworth, Scholz, Van Halen. And then there is his own tone - just superb.
This guy is awesome. Says it all straightaway without any dancing around what was modeled after what. I am very tempted to add one to my collection just to support Blu. Capn came across a little off in this one, like he wasn't really listening to him before cutting him off or twisting knobs.
I'm Taurus Apms distributor in the UK, but big respect to my colleague Thomas Blug, his music, his creativity and personality. Thoma's history is inpiring me since I meet him first time at The Merseyside Guitar Show couple years ago :) Well done guys ! Very good presentation. Bravo ! All the best for you - Jerry Rzeszowski ;)
Just saw this guy perform live at Sweetwater Gearfest, showcasing this amp. Absolutely unreal performance and sound, and this dude is as humble as they come. Been watching this guy demo Hughes and Kettner for years, so cool to watch him play in person. Also, this amp sounds GOOD in a live setting.
Love love love the AMP1 - that and my Friedman BE-OD have made my other amps redundant - I use it for everything, studio and live. Awesome piece of gear! And so portable - even took mine from the uk to NAMM in Jan so that I had my sound 😊 thanks for the vid Captain and Thomas 😊
:-) Really liked your video with the portable battery operated gig! BTW I got a BE-OD after seeing your demos - great great pedal... Now I may have to get an AMP1 as well...
Great piece of gear for a really good price, awesome sounds (especially when Thomas grabbed the LP!) and a GREAT chat - music, engineering, geeking out... I was supposed to watch 10 minutes and go do other things but I stayed to watch the whole thing. Thanks Thomas and Cap!
I gig with it using and 8 ohm Palmer 4x12, at home I use it through an Orange practice speaker the sort thats paired with micro terror both sound great, I also work as a producer and engineer and this amp has saved me a whole lot of work and back ache in the studio. This video seemed a little rushed in the sense that I dont think they showed how dynamic the control of each of the drive channels are, such as the response to rolling off tone and volume on the guitar. also this has an incredible clean tone. You get a whole lot for your money with this amp, I understand you could get a nice combo for a similar price, but for my money this is the equivalent of having multiple amps that I honestly couldn't afford separately. Oh I forgot about P.A use its amazingly good straight to a desk the same applies for direct recording as in a live situation, I hope ive managed to answer your question.
Folks, I don’t normally do this, but today is September 2021 and I found this amp on Craigslist and decided to give it a go. I wish I would have found this thing when it came out. Imagine a 100 watt tube 4 channel amp with all the features of a standard amp but be the size of a large effect pedal. It goes on my pedal board. I have a digital wireless for my guitar connection and the amp on my board. I have one cable in my rig. The speaker cable to the 2x12 cabinet. When I show up for practice, rehearsal or gig, I have one bag with my pedal board, two guitar cases, one speaker cab on casters and a small toolkit. Done. I am finished load in within 15 minutes. Tune up and sound check in another 10, then I am helping others set up. And with my Helix as my main effects and this amp, my tone has never been better. Just believe me that this is the best rig you can run if you have to travel. But even if you don’t, it’s still the best just for its stellar tone and flexibility
I bought it this year finally. I've been watching and checking amp1 about one year. I decided to buy in January 2017, and since then I love it! I gotta buy nano can and blubox soon.
Great German product ! I am really impressed by the options, the numerous adjustments possible to sculpte the sound/tones. There has been at lot of R&D put into that for sure... Thanks for the demo !!
When Lee reached into his pocket I thought he was going for his wallet ha. I own one of these really is a fantastic piece of kit. They didn't even really touch on the custom controls on the side panel which especially in the clean channel really makes a huge difference to the sound character. Thomas seems like such a genuine and passionate player and designer and really sincere guy, what he doesn't know about guitar amps and design isn't worth knowing about. One more thing the Amp 1 comes with a very detailed deluxe manual which is an interesting read in itself.
I have Amp1 and BluBox and have to say it is awesome Gear. Met Thomas in my local guitar shop in Wales last year (AStrings, Pontypridd). Great guy and a top player.
Thomas Blug really is a Strat king! Awesome player. I've no experience with his amp line so I can't really comment on that. Absolutely killer guitar player is all I can really say.
I have the Amp1 and Blubox for home recording. The 1967 cab setting is fantastic for Marshall tones. I also use my 1w Marshall amps on 0.1w with the Blubox, sounds great.
I have been using one for a while now and it's amazing. sounds great through a 4x12 but going to get a fatcab when I have the money. an amp that fits in the pouch on the front of my pedalboard bag is just so handy. I just use it clean as a pedal platform. great bit of kit
This is a modern Classic one of the best amps I have the pleasure to play through it has it's very own fantastic sound clean an mild driven. wonderful wonderful EQ - far better than almost any EQ i have tried But it has a learning curve to learn for getting the sweet spot the only issue is that the amp1Likes single coils and more specific with a strat far more than other guitars
Been waiting for you guys to wake up to this. I have had the Amp1 for some time and the BluBox the moment it landed. Real happy to see Thomas explain how it was safe to go into the red on the BluBox, I have been staying in the green, but will push a little more now. I absolutely love it. Would love to hear Robs thoughts, maybe a blind shoot out between Amp1 and Blubox with the relevant amp/speakers? They are always fun.
To give a measure of how good the amp1 Mercury is, I've been playing for 20 years. Mostly 5150 and peavey xxx. Some older line 6 stuff. Got the amp 1 and in 4 months my playing ability has quadrupled. It truly does inspire and you want to crank it!!!!!!!
I saw Thomas last month at a guitar show and he was using one of these and let me tell you...his tone/s were amazing coming through that PA. And I don't believe there was much tinkering on the mixer side because they had a VERY limited time to get set up with hardly any soundcheck whatsoever I was very impressed. Of course he is also a fantastic guitar player.
Picking up on the Captain's cabinet comment, would love to see a comparison to find the best single cabinet (1x12 or 2x12) for several heads, especially Blues breaker 15, AC 15, Orange, Marshall, etc.
Great piece of kit. I tried one for a few days but don't need the portability any more. This is a great amp and I'm not sure that anyone really needs anything else, specially with this DI box. Great stuff, wish I'd had this in 1979!!
I use this on stage and I can say it work pretty well! I don't like the build in overdrives too much (though they will do the job) but on the clean channel with a good overdrive/distortion it work great. I use the fatcab and nonocab and you've got all the volume in the world. Right now I'm switching to the Strymon Sunset into the slightly break'n clean sound.
I have seen a lot of the reviews and interviews on UA-cam. Morons keep commenting on the "amp models", and how they refuse to play digital. He says (in every interview) that it's analog. Not a digital modeling device. He just tried to capture the essence of certain amps. He didn't copy them onto a computer, and port it to his pedal. That Amp1 sounds really toneful, and I am very surprised. I bet this sounds like a monster on stage. When he goes into SRV, and then Van Halen style playing, it really shines.
Lee I completely 1000% agree on the cab thing, people do not realize how important the cab is to the tone, maybe you and Rob do a short video showing this, I think Wampler did a mini series where they used 12 amps and 1 cab and then 1 amp and 12 cabs and the cab had just as much impact on the tone as the amps did
Actually cap'n he was giving you user feedback and it's unfair to slap him like that and then call it a joke. We all love the vids but he's right, you do fiddle with the knobs all the time (oo er) without telling us what you're doing or why. That's fine if you're making vids for yourself but not fine if you're trying to educate us about a product. Please accept user feedback gracefully if it's not rude.
I bought the BluGuitar BLUBOX Impulse Response speaker emulator, it allows me to use my Rivera Knucklehead Reverb when using a loadbox to record direct. I like a few of the settings, it's a pretty decent sound for the cost!
Anyone interested in one of these should know that there's a gap in the sound when switching the boost in and out, or when switching between the different "amps" (i.e. the vintage, classic or modern channels). Also applies to using it with the Remote-1. I bought the set hoping for a nice, lightweight fly Rig that would fit in a suitcase, but the gap in the audio when switching was a deal breaker. It's a shame, as it's a great-sounding little amp with more than enough power for live use. I guess if you're a player like Thomas Blug, using your volume pot to go from clean to crunch to full on distortion, then you're golden. Me, I rely on switching channels for different song sections and having to anticipate the switch and be aware of switching a split section before the chorus hits, for example, was impacting on my performance.
so the fat cat is about more power handling or is it more about getting a bigger low end that better emulates a 4 by 12, ? what is utility of 38oz vs 42oz magnet ?
Same here. It just Sounds Good. If people don't actually _see_ it, they'll assume it's a Fender or Marshall head. Of course, as these things go, when they do see it, it'll magically be all like "ah well, it's not exactly like a _real_ amp bla bla bla."
I played the "new" Mercury edition at NAMM 2020. I dug it, but headphones still made it difficult to truly appreciate fully in Hall D. But a couple weeks ago I finally ordered one along with the remote1. This thing is glorious. I love it. And not for nothing, but...with my V4 Kraken...😈
Great Demo! And Thomas is a very nice guy. I asked him some questions about the amp1 and he even called me to answer! I would just like to see a demo explaining and using the the entire rig: AMP1, REMOTE1, BLUBOX, FATCAB, PA ... Thanks Anderton's!
And actually, because all of us are using at least some pedals, give an in depth demo of the Remote 1 together with the looper kit + using MIDI with pedals... thanks!
Haha: I'm glad he said that at around 6:30 or so, I was just sitting here thinking, why doesn't he get a Mesa Boogie for smaller, but loud? This makes me very curious about this amp and cab.
If you are a designer and manufacturer I think the last person you want to dial in sounds is Lee. Lee sets things with his eyes and not his ears and he also seems to dial in exclusively bad sounds.
the clean tones and crunch tones are great and i wanted this but a tube preamp pedal sounds much better for a real and natural tube sound in a smaller package
I love the way this guy talks about his product, he is not corporate at all and hnows his stuff
Thomas is such a gentle giant of a musician and amp man. Wish him all the best.
It's a shame that Captain Anderton didn't do any homework beforehand. Thomas is a 'class' musician and designer... he deserved a far better interview.
It's a shame that he's not a captain.
Pretty dismissive of his work as "70's stuff". Not Lee's finest hour.
@@blessedheavyelements8544 I agree.....Thomas is a true gent and an amazing guitarist. Obvs Lee didn`t do his homework.
@@ledintozeppelin1939 Don't know if you've seen the review of the Iridium they did. Absolute helltrash, no research at all.

After their terrible review/demo of the Iridium, they should have Thomas back on the channel and have him match the amp1 to their favorite amps (beforehand) and then do a blindfold challenge.
Thomas is simply one of the best musicians and engineers I ever met!
I don't understand why the Amp1 is still so underrated and people don't know about it...
Just ordered my BluGuitar Iridium yesterday. Can’t wait to get it! Loving this thing from the reviews I’ve seen.
I know. I just heard it last night for the first time (that I’m aware of anyway) and it sounded great 👍
What is Amp1...??
George Lucas / the one before Amp2🤐
My wife and I both have Amp 1s. I also have a crapload of other amps, but I can get most of the sounds I need out of the Amp1.
Many dont give Thomas Blug enough credit (or know of him) for his contribution to the advancement of guitar gear. He should be spoken of in the same league as Marshall, Holdsworth, Scholz, Van Halen. And then there is his own tone - just superb.

Wow. The flexibility of this rig is unbelievable!
Amp 1 is fantastic, gigged with it for over a year now, love it.
Love this amp best money Ive ever spent on gear.
Nigel Prince do you gig with it? If so, via cabinet or PA? I'm fascinated by this! Cheers, Martin

Tom’s new AMP1 ‘Iridium’ model,
is a 180w Peak MONSTER.
It hacks a absolutely ROARING ‘perfect mutant’ JCM800.
Look it up, I hear $800.
Yeah i want one!
Still 100 watts..... why should it be more than that?
He designed an amazing product! I really loved the tones coming out of it. If I wasn't so into effects processors this would definitely be with me.

sounds great, and Thomas is a killer guitar player!
Finally!!! been withing for this video for years!!!
These videos keep getting better and better. The store is great!
Thomas is a genius, if I had money this would be the first thing I get as a gigging musician.
When he goes into SRV, and then Van Halen style playing, it really shines.
about time you reviewed these, had one for a few months ,,,,love it
Zentera amp demo! I loved watching it so much when it first came out.
Beautiful just beautiful playing and tempted for this unit
Lee I completely 1000% agree on the cab thing, people do not realize how important the cab is to the tone, maybe you and Rob do a short video showing this, I think Wampler did a mini series where they used 12 amps and 1 cab and then 1 amp and 12 cabs and the cab had just as much impact on the tone as the amps did
Would love to see Thomas' take on bass amps and cabs.
Many thanks to Andertons and Thomas! Great thing!
Not tried the amp1 but I hear nothing but good things about the tone.
Definitely try it out when you can! Couldn't recommend it higher especially for gigging! No more amp lugging 😀
Thomas is a legend in his own right, nobody plays a Strat better in my opinion.
My English mate Dave Barlow turned me on to this useful contraption. I like it.
Captain, when you have the designer of a product who is also a competent and accomplished guitar player, KEEP YOUR BLOODY HANDs OFF THE PEDAL!

Exactly trollfiddler!
Wow! Great product, great guitarist. I’m sold!
Really does sound great and also nice playing :D AS per usual
Can't wait for the amp x he is releasing soon!
Fantastic! What a great guy too.
Nothing too shabby about that sound. Damn that's good.
I bought the BluGuitar BLUBOX Impulse Response speaker emulator, it allows me to use my Rivera Knucklehead Reverb when using a loadbox to record direct. I like a few of the settings, it's a pretty decent sound for the cost!
I heard that crackle on 36mins 11secs and my face dropped!!! However, Thomas saved himself straightaway by saying it was the guitar !! Ha Ha
Sam Brox it's not so much a gap, it's just that it switches when you lift your foot, not when you press it. You soon get used to it.

Lee sets things with his eyes and not his ears and he also seems to dial in exclusively bad sounds.
just bought both - brilliant!
17:02 Of which amp is Thomas talking here? Anyone knows?
... great presentation! Thank you very much!
dude, thomas has an answer, a solution and options for everything XD
Is there a tonal difference between the Mercury and the Iridium? Are they completely different?
wish rob would play the new versions..
Classy player, classy guy.
Cant wait to see Rob and Rabea playing with the AMP1 through a 4x12 cab
i use mine through a 4x4 marshal cab ,awsome !!!
It sounds beautiful
The more I hear these amps the more I yearn to try one.
Oh my god his guitar. 😍
Blimey Thomas must get about a lot. There's about 40 people in this comments section that have met him in the last month. Nice sounding amp though.
I think he is on a promo tour right now. I got an email about a AMP1 workshop with him in a guitar store near my place.
This guy is brilliant!
Great gear, also that Vintage V6 "Summer of love". If you like a Hendrix Monterey design strat definitely check that one out :)
the clean tones and crunch tones are great and i wanted this but a tube preamp pedal sounds much better for a real and natural tube sound in a smaller package
I would love to see this a has mini head setup as well. That would look cool as a mini 100 watt stack 2 2x12 cabs. Breaking the 4th wall!
He needs his 80 gigs per year, 2020 probably was rough for him :D
Very impressed by that NanoCab, through a mic it sounds like a regular 1x12 cab. Wonder if it's that good in the room
