I have the original version and it sounds amazing. I had one of the small pots break on the side and BluGuitar replaced the entire unit with a new one! Great Service.
I compared my BluGuitar 1 with my Carr Mercury V (a $2400.00 amp ) It was so close I felt sick to my stomach....lol The BluGuitar amp 1 cannot be beat for portability and great tones.
So much guitar gear is 99% hype 1% substance. Thomas Blug is the complete opposite of that. He has amazing knowledge of why amps sound the way they do.
Best demo I’ve seen for the Amp1. The new Mercury Edition sounded fantastic. And it was a pleasure just watching Thomas Blug doing all that tone matching. Very impressive.
I can't help myself but thinking that Thomas didn't do a lot and it should be possible to do this too as a mere mortal. I know that's because Thomas knows exactly what and how to do, but I should be able to get the same results given more time.
That's the hope at least. But what is fascinating to me was how he could quickly dial it in while listening to one amp then need only 'minor' adjustments when they'd switch and it shows just how well Thomas knows his gear which would only come from truly using/believing in 'his' product. Can't wait to see more of the Mercury edition and to see it come across the Atlantic.
That was the best BluGuitar Amp 1 demo I've seen. It's exactly what I need as a freelance guitarist playing many styles in many places. I was thinking about getting one of these and now I know I must..! :-)
F**king incredible! He tone matched everything except the last amp perfectly...in some cases the blu amp sounded better in an undescribable way. Even on the last one, it wasn't bad, just a different cue on the mids or something, but the same tone more or less. I'd love to see this done with a Mesa Triple crown or Revv Generator 120...maybe the next vid will have those?
Thomas is a genuis. Him and my friend Antonin Salva from Salvation Audio, are two of the best engineers that most people have no clue about but Thomas and Antonin should be household names like other engineers.
I recommend using it above 7 on volume with an attenuator (I have a Silencer which is also passive) and a good cab. The sound is incredible. This is the ultimate amp for me.
I own one. I gig with it. People flip out when they see it. They can't wrap their head around it. It is an amazing piece of gear. A work of art. The only problems I have is figuring what pedals I wanna run with it. (that's not a problem, that's fun!) I love adding a pedal boost, and leaving it on all the time for a right on the edge of an overdriven clean tone. (you also have the boost on the blu guitar amp as well) Then I roll my volume back on my guitar. I use the vintage channel on 3-4 gain. That gives me 3 different types of clean tones. I control it all with just the volume knob on my guitar. I have two overdrive pedals as well. With the vintage channel on 3-4 I can use either overdrives for two totally different tones or both together. So many flavors of tone. After a gig guys will say, "man you get so many different sounds out of that rig." Another trick you can do is to run the tone knobs high on the amp, and then cut the tone knobs on your guitar way back. Lots of times during a solo you don't need extra volume, just a little more tone will cut right through.
So from the video I'd have to say that the Amp1 didn't have as "round" of a sound as the real amp. To be fair, when he was switching back and forth in short intervals I couldn't tell, and also there were moments where I just couldn't tell period, but the Amp1 seemed to have that slightly thinner sound to it, typical of solid state. My question is if you just dial up a nice clean tone (possible?) and use pedals, if the thinness goes away?
I waited for this a long time: You and Thomas and the Amp1. BluGuitar was a highlight of the Musikmesse. I was instantly convinced upon playing it and will wait until the Mercury Edition is out to buy it. Thanks guys, you are great (all three)!
Truth is Mr Blug dials in the sound of the amp1 like no one. I’ve been using amp1 for the last year and a half and I’m really happy with it, amazing combination of cristal cleans and great sounding distortions. Really amazing job. Keep it up!
I must say damn really close, that is very impressive. Thomas has spent his whole career with the plexi, so he seems to really know what the sound is supposed to be.
Markus Nowak yeah, when I got my AMP1 2 years back I owned a couple of very nice high end valve amps. I assumed AMP1 would be a cool backup or for smaller gigs and short support slots where lugging loads of gear seemed excessive. After a few shows I didn’t just think it was ‘alright’ but started to prefer it - way easier to be punchy and cut through than my OR100 for a start, so much as I liked that amp I had to admit it wasn’t going to get used much anymore and I put it up for sale.
I'm shocked every time I play it. For me it's the main amp and it will remain so. I use mainly the modern channel and the clean. BTW. I'm using an Orange cab 12x2 and it sounds incredible. The amp shines above 7 volume and it's a killer, so a good attenuator is very important. PS: it's funny to say this would be a backup amp. Actually I'm gonna buy another one as a backup!
@@adamdagosto570 Remote1 is very limited comparing with the G Lab GSC-4 System Controller, plus you can use G Lab MIDI 4x Loop for the loop effects (10 pedals in total). You have also 6x9V on it! Such an impressive piece of gear for a traveling musician and not only....Thomas Blug is such a great musician and super intelligent guy .... and in the same time such a humble person ! Best demo for mercury bluamp!
That is super impressive. I tried the first model with the BluBox speaker sim the other day, and I was very impressed with that one too. By far the best stomp box amp out there imo.
I went to Thomas' workshop at Frankfurt Musikmesse only because I wanted to reserve a seat in Guthrie Govan's workshop (which started immediately afterwards). I ended up thoroughly enjoying Mr. Blugs demo. He is a great guitarist and the amp sounds amazing.
I just love the concept here! I do hope you did another vid with you & Thomas playing together. He's such a great player. Hey yeah, you & Thomas & are ya ready???? Glenn on BASS!
In no way whatsoever could I tell them apart if I HAD to. The only way to really get it is to FEEL the amps under your fingers, dynamically. But just as Thomas said, close enough for chess!this was a great idea Henning.
Exactly. To my ears, the Amp1 had a harsher high end, and overall not as "round" as they said when comparing the Friedman. Also every so slightly thinner tone.
Hey, great video, thanks for the demo. Thomas, I really hope the Mercury version will come with some of your killer IR's built in... A no-brainer if it does:)
So now you can just sell that wall of beautiful amps and replace them all with this one silver wonderbox! Think how much cooler it will be in your studio and how much electricity you will save :)

I live in Canada and the AMP 1 is the best amp I have ever owned. And the Number 1 Shirts are also available in North America as well. I own both the long sleeve and the short sleeve. They are a high quality thick cotton.
I have the the Amp1 and I got it to use with my pedals. All 50 plus of them. It works Ok dead clean but nothing I found better then my Marshall Origin 50 watt head which is virtually a Plexi. (I should know as I had a real Plexi that I played all through the 70's) So it is as attested to many times in the vid is ....'CLOSE' So what do I recommend? Get both ...I have a 2 pound backup amp that I can easily tote along side of my rig. Best of all I will not disintegrate at a gig if my Marshall goes down. LOL
Poul Winther Knudsen Oh, it still isn't there yet? I totally forgot to check again. Hmm... doesn't have to mean anything, he probably made quite a bunch of videos with Henning.

Run into a mixer and use that for a/b switching, no gaps in audio. On the box, Like many things, its very close, yet much smaller and convienent. I might buy one if nothing else better comes along.
Great video guys. I must get round to doing more Amp 1 vids myself. Best amp I've owned alongside my Rivera M60and certainly a lot lighter. I tried one through the Nano cab and Fat cab last year and they really bring the tones to life even more!
Extraordinary. If I thought this could give me a Fender blackface sound, it would definitely be my next amp as otherwise I'm considering the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb, but the Amp1 is just so much more versatile.
According to the manual, the boost is a two-stage tube simulation before the channels. The boost can be set with a knob on the side from clean and transparent to overdrive. This boost is an overall boost, so you may have to dial it in that it fits for all sounds you want to use a boost for. But it seems pretty versatile.
Well I ordered two of those and on both one of the side control knobs was broken at arrival. Problem: they are directly on the PCB and not mounted on the case to make them more sturdy. kick them once from the side or have some pressure on them from the side through a softbag and it's dead.
Hi Alexis, sorry, but the knobs in your unit broke not because of they are directly on the PCB. The material of knobs was shit on yours - our manufacturer´s fault! We already changed that. If you need a fix , please contact your dealer or us. We`ll fix that for you! kind regards, Thomas
Yeah, me too. I played the Amp1 but I never had the chance to listen to a comparison with such a wide range of different amps. Obviously Thomas exactly knows how to dial in a certain sound, but it looks like it shouldn't be that complicated for anyone after a while getting familiar with the Amp1. This is my next amp.
The handwired talk brought up an idea in me. Would it be even possible to do an hardwired Amp1 - with standard components instead of SMD an in in a bigger housing of course - or is the number of components just too huge to even try? The early prototypes must have been some kind of hardwired thing, right?
I hadn't got the Blug/Bluguitar play on words until it was explained at the start! Mind you, Henning is still not on wavelength until another ten minutes and asks! Love it.
If this thing had a built in looper I’d be sold. I’m not talking about the FX looper extension kit, but a looper that records and then loops short bits of music. I travel for a living and I have to put everything into my carry on bags, so even not having to carry a mini Ditto Looper and power supply would make a big difference.
that would be a horrible idea. jack of all trades master of none - it would up the price point and make it WAY less marketable. I'd rather just have a ditto on my pedalboard, and pay less for an amp1
It takes 2.2 US pounds ta make 1 kg. English or UK pounds are available in a vast variety and there is one which suits Thomas' claim for "2 pounds makes 1.2 kg." Well in the end it's 1.2 kg and Thomas is a very decent guy. Met him several times on music shows and he always was a polite sport (which my friends and I weren't) and no BS. Having said that..... I don't visit any more industry shows and I haven't played Thomas' stuff. But I will. I think he's one of the honest people out there and for what I've listened on the interweb his products sound great!
Mr Blug has an impressive ear. Cudos! I was quite surprised how close he came every time. For some examples, I could not hear the difference anymore (and I was listening with good headphones).
Did you create that glitchy graphic or did you find a template it is really cool, personally trying to hone my AE skills to do similar graphics for my own videos, your graphics are always hard to compete with, mainly asking because you seem too busy to sit and spend hours in AE.
Love your stuff thomas. Now please make an all-in-one rack unit including the looper and all the extras with foot controller for easy access to multiple patches. I'm going to hold breath until you do it so please hurry! : )
We have to reality check here. Guitarists pay out £3000 for what is technically old technology. Bluguitar amp proves that using new technology and approaches sounds just as good. I’ve got the mercury edition and it rocks !! And it’s a hell of a lot lighter too
I spoke to Kai from BluGuitar at the Musikmesse. The Mercury Edition will come out later this year and will be a replacement for the old Amp1. Since they had the same price since introduction, they will raise the price a tiny bit. Kai told me maybe about 50 Euros more - which is completely justified in my opinion.
So what is the difference from the old Amp1 to the mercury? Btw pretty impressive job tone matching the amps from Thomas. That guy sure knows what he’s doing. And shows that we more often than not do listen with our eyes as much as with our ears!
I spoke to Kai from BluGuitar at the Musikmesse and according to him (I hope I recall correctly) the Modern channel got more bite and they made changes in how the EQ reacts to make the Classic and Modern channel tighter. Also they overhauled the Reverb (no biggie for me as I have my external effects and prefer delay to reverb anyway). The Mercury Edition should be out towards the end of the year and will have a slight price increase (apparently not much. But since they kept the price the same since introduction, a few Euros more don't matter much in my opinion) I hope that helps.
@EytschPi42 I like the Redplate Blackline amp played by Allen Hinds- I wonder can the Mercury Edition duplicate that creamy slightly compressed overdrive tone that you get thru the Redplate Blackline - if it can I'd buy it today !
I think this the only channel where this type of comparison is possible. Thank you. The BluGuitar Mercury is very versatile, and of course, compact.
I have the original version and it sounds amazing. I had one of the small pots break on the side and BluGuitar replaced the entire unit with a new one! Great Service.

Thomas is the best. I love that he says there are qualities to the other amps that he likes, sometimes even more than his amp. So honest, so cool.
This is a good piece of proof that differences between the actual amps are often really subtle. When people compare "amps" they mostly compare cabs.
exactly

That is the coolest room ever!
can u compare the Friedman Amps to your UAD Versions? :) That could be interesting
The handwired talk brought up an idea in me. Would it be even possible to do an hardwired Amp1 - with standard components instead of SMD an in in a bigger housing of course - or is the number of components just too huge to even try? The early prototypes must have been some kind of hardwired thing, right?
Whats happened to Glenns video on this??
Very impressive, well done Thomas. Thnx Henning
I hadn't got the Blug/Bluguitar play on words until it was explained at the start! Mind you, Henning is still not on wavelength until another ten minutes and asks! Love it.
I love the amp and it has very good rep from actual real gigging musicians. I'm saving up to buy one now.
English or UK pounds are available in a vast variety and there is one which suits Thomas' claim for "2 pounds makes 1.2 kg."
Well in the end it's 1.2 kg and Thomas is a very decent guy.
Great demo as always! I have a question: How could I run my Torpedo Cab M with o Bluguitar? Which output can I use for that?
I’m thinking do I get this of the Iridium edition? I am not a metal head as such but I do like my heavier stuff as well as classic rock.
Get the Mercury!
Did you create that glitchy graphic or did you find a template it is really cool, personally trying to hone my AE skills to do similar graphics for my own videos, your graphics are always hard to compete with, mainly asking because you seem too busy to sit and spend hours in AE.
I have the Amp 1 and I love it!
i want to buy one or a brunetti singleman 16. can't decide. does the amp 1 can do fender cleans?
Love your stuff thomas. Now please make an all-in-one rack unit including the looper and all the extras with foot controller for easy access to multiple patches. I'm going to hold breath until you do it so please hurry! : )
Thomas, can you please provide the tone settings for the Amps in the video?
This amp and Thomas amaze me, what an amazing product, also both Henning's and Thomas's English leave me open mouthed
We have to reality check here. Guitarists pay out £3000 for what is technically old technology. Bluguitar amp proves that using new technology and approaches sounds just as good. I’ve got the mercury edition and it rocks !! And it’s a hell of a lot lighter too
Ich habe schon lange darauf gewartet...
I wish I could see the values on the side of the unit.... The small box sounds was right on!
Did I miss how much the mercury edition will cost? Or is the price the same as the old amp1?
I spoke to Kai from BluGuitar at the Musikmesse. The Mercury Edition will come out later this year and will be a replacement for the old Amp1. Since they had the same price since introduction, they will raise the price a tiny bit. Kai told me maybe about 50 Euros more - which is completely justified in my opinion.
Great demo!
Is this for sale in the US?
So what is the difference from the old Amp1 to the mercury?
Btw pretty impressive job tone matching the amps from Thomas. That guy sure knows what he’s doing.
And shows that we more often than not do listen with our eyes as much as with our ears!
yes, i want to know the difference too.
But since they kept the price the same since introduction, a few Euros more don't matter much in my opinion)
I hope that helps.
Frank Fleckenstein Sorry for repeating your answer - but then there were two requests, so my answer could count too, right? ;)
I hope mercury edition has improved noise gate and pots also.
I would imagine this is the top video for selling this product
Nice review by Henning the Dr. Evil of Guitar
Very impressive
@EytschPi42 I like the Redplate Blackline amp played by Allen Hinds- I wonder can the Mercury Edition duplicate that creamy slightly compressed overdrive tone that you get thru the Redplate Blackline - if it can I'd buy it today !
I have no idea!
Does Blu come with the pedal to make all the adjustments?
before watching this video I did not know that this product existed but now I want more than anything
jungs, ihr seid der hammer!
I am confused. Is he demoing the "new Mercury Edition" or the original Amp 1? Besides, Thomas Blug ears always impress me :D
It seems to me that this is the Mercury Edition - else the title wouldn't fit.
In Hennings video it is the new Mercury edition. The current version sound pretty similar on Clean, but the drive channels are different...
ThomasBlug Thanks Thomas, I was wondering exactly that because I own the current version and I use the clean with boost engaged 90% of the time :)
1 minute in the video and I already comment that I want you to do more videos with Glenn
What are the tone settings Thomas used?
Amazing Amp1 😲
I can't imagine how much energy is spent with all the head turned on at once... 😆
Hmm... interesting, I don't know about electric stuff but I'd guess there isn't the full power draw when they're not under load.
