It's worth looking into all the deleted scenes for this. They make the movie make so much more sense. The decision to cut all of the conversation with the engineer is honestly baffling.
Fun facts: Ridley Scott was going to use VFX for Shaw’s body during the surgery scene until Noomi Rapace told him that she could do things with her stomach so that’s actually her moving her stomach like that. They say it freaked out the crew when she did it but they used that instead of doing VFX.
Michael Fassbender was phenomenal in this movie. The reason David is the way he is is because he’s constantly trying to learn, trying to push the boundaries of science. But he was not given any human morals or ethics when he was created. Because his creator Peter Weyland, an all powerful psychopath with god complex himself, never saw any use in morals or having any kind of conscience. Also anyone reading this should look up the TED Talk video for Prometheus that was originally supposed to be the opening scene of the movie but it’s on UA-cam now. It shows Peter Weyland as a young man giving a truly hypnotic speech giving the history of human technology all the way to the future and saying that humans are gods now. It really should’ve been in the final movie but look it up for yourselves.
There may be no truth in this but I feel like they might be leaving good stuff out of theatrical releases to make people buy the DVDs with all the deleted scenes. Probably not, but it often feels like that.
That was kinda stupid the only thing i can maybe see is parts of the ship we’re falling down on the sides of them so all they could do was go forward its still stupid though.
This is the only part of the movie that is objectively bad imo. But even then I feel like it's a case of me sitting comfortable watching it vs. being in the situation. In a moment of pure true panic, horror, and adrenaline I'm not sure my mind would be capable of any thought deeper then run. But that's reality, this is a movie and they definitely could of done that scene better. It reminds me of the scene in "the expanse" where the guy opens his helmet in space. Realistic yes, but it pulls everybody out of the narrative with a "yeah right" moment. Almost like a purposeful troll by the writers because they are correct, but the audience doubts based on what they have learned from other media vs factual science.
@@shania991 have you heard of viruses and bacteria? Just cause the air has oxygen doesnt mean its safe to breath it, and on a foreign planet of all places!
@@shania991 Just because the air is "breathable" doesn't mean the air is free from airborne pathogens. The scientists of Prometheus and Covenant take the prize for the most moronic teams in space ever
Idris Elba didn't have the biggest scenes but every scene he was in was crazy good. He knew what had to be done in less than 20 seconds when she was trying to explain it wasn't a warship. Amazing job between them
What are you talking about? Elba's character was utterly worthless. The 'captain' of a mission like this shouldn't look and behave like he just went on a three day bender. The only reason it isn't more glaringly offensive is because nearly all the characters are as poorly written. You usually get one 'fish out of water' character in a cast so the audience can be brought along with the story easier. The problem with Prometheus is that nearly every character is unprofessional, needlessly hostile, stupid, greedy, drunken, or a combination of multiple fatal character flaws. And this movie tanked because of that.
@@geraldmorgan6906 There's no point in calling him useless, when just about every character was equally useless. And he really wasn't. He stopped the engineer from leaving. And isn't every alien movie full of useless characters? I think it's a byproduct of the company never telling them what's really going on.
I'll never understand how the two scientists stuck in the tunnel are terrified of every little thing, but then they see an actual hostile looking life form and they want to touch it??? Quality writing.
Only the idiot biologist wanted to touch it. What blows my mind is that the man who mapped the Engineer’s ship, got lost in it! The biggest weakness in this movie is the utter idiocy of these alleged scientists and engineers. That and the abysmal casting of that hack Logan Marshall Green as Doctor Holloway.
If I remember correctly, one of the reasons the Engineer was angry is because he put himself in cryosleep since he was infected by what wiped out the rest of his team. He was hoping that he would be awakened when he would be able to be treated, but instead realized it was the humans who he was initially sent out to exterminate that awakened him.
He was angry at how violent the humans are. The Engineers seeded earth with life as well as many other worlds but earth was 1 of a few that actually succeeded. Unfortunately humans were greedy, vicious and cruel causing the Engineers to view them as failures. They tried to guide humanity towards the right path by abducting a human (Jesus) and teaching that human the values of life and unity before returning him to his kind to spread the teachings. This man was crucified for his beliefs and his death sealed the fate of humanity in the eyes of the Engineers who began their plan to destroy humanity. Fortunately for humanity something went wrong and the Engineers were wiped out with only 1 surviving in hibernation. roughly 2000 years later the crew of the Prometheus arrives and wake the last Engineer. At first he is curious about humans and doesn't attack right away... But as soon as weyland begins to show violents against shaw the Engineer see's that humanity has not changed and he then attacks and prepares to finish his mission of wiping out humanity.
@@thecoffeemainiak5400your half right the whole Jesus thing isn’t a real yes they saw us a disappointment because of how greedy and violent we were but they didn’t take human and all that sadly it’s a fan made script not canon sucks because it’s better writing and a great explanation.
@shania991 Isn't it an early draft of the script, rather than a fan made one? The allusions to Jesus are everywhere in the movie (takes place at Christmas, there's a miraculous birth, the engineers were on their way to us 2000 years ago etc) so it makes sense
Fifield and Millburn: Dumb & Dumber. A geologist with access to mapping tech gets lost and a biologist touches an alien lifeform as it was a cute puppy.
I don’t understand why the ending of this film isn’t the engineer being impregnated and then going into a ship and flying off into space, having the chestburster moment and his ship crashes on LV 426 and that’s the derelict spacecraft. The discovery of mankind he send a distress signal just before he dies.

Deleted dialogue that is written in the script: Elizabeth: "Why do you hate us?" Engineer: "Hate? We gave you this emotion. We gave you all emotion. We had expected not of your evolution. We took care of you, gave you fire, built your structures. We gave you Eden. You worshiped us. We praised our creation from above. We watched you time and time again kill each other, start wars. We came back and saved your souls but we left you to make your own fate. But your kind is a barbaric violent species. We tried once more to save you. We took a mothers child back to Paradise and educated him, taught him the meaning of life and creation. We put him back into Eden to educate your kind. But your kind decided to punish him. We gave you the fruits of life and you repay us by leaving it to rot. You talk of me of hate? Prepare for rapture!"
@@DarknessIsThePath How. It's literally the explanation for the existence of this movie. It dives further into religion and actually explains (and there is more in the original script) why the engineers wanted to destroy humanity.
@@sMooVe1982 Because a superior alien, not to mention the creators of life on Earth, hellbent on destroying it would never waste their time explaining anything to insignificant trash (humans/Earth life). The scene would have made humans look important enough for the engineers but humans were not. Plus it also makes sense just from the few seconds he observed Weyland. Weyland thought he was their equal, that arrogance alone and his already weak fragile body showed otherwise and his treatment of Shaw was enough for the engineer to kill them all on the spot. Weyland thinking he was a "God" said more than enough.
@@DarknessIsThePath they didn't see us as trash, they wanted us to strive and make us in their own image. For us to be peaceful and worship them because they gave us everything we needed. They did care about us but us being us made them resent us and look upon their creation with disgust. Therefore wanting to destroy us .
@@sMooVe1982 The problem is though that this scene is deleted so it is pointless to draw that conclusion. What Ridley Scott likely wanted was for anyone to draw their own conclusions, a sort of meta scene. Like, the engineer is "listening" to Shaw and David very briefly while Weyland tries to shut her up. he ofc then goes on a killing spree. What he wanted was for the audience to be as lost as Shaw and Weyland, we will never understand their reasoning or purpose because we do not deserve it as the primitive species we are compared to them. So in that sense its irrelevant to include the deleted scene because it is simply not cannon to the official movie. Does it mean that it is wrong? No, but the scene will always leave the answer open to endless interpretations.
"Doesn't everyone want their parents dead?" David's two most significant human companions prior to the mission were Peter and Meredith Weyland (or Vickers).
The whole "this super-expensive medical machine is still inherently sexist" thing was kinda funny. I really hope writers thought about how ironic that was.
@andrewking9454 It's not that the machine doesn't have the ability to operate on women, it's the fact that the machine was calibrated for a male patient (Mr. Weyland.)
Excellent reaction to a largely under appreciated film. The difference between you guys and other reactors is your appreciation for detail. And I cocur, the set design for this film is outstanding.
One you understand the mythology behind the name of the film, you have a better appreciation for it. Prometheus is a Titan from Greek mythology, who played a crucial role in the creation and advancement of humanity. His story is central to themes of defiance, punishment, and the quest for knowledge. Prometheus is often credited with the creation of humanity from clay. However, his most famous myth involves his defiance of Zeus, the king of the gods. According to the myth, after creating humans, Prometheus took pity on them because they were weak and vulnerable. To help them survive, he decided to steal fire from the gods and give it to humanity. Fire symbolizes knowledge, technology, and civilization, making Prometheus a symbol of human advancement and enlightenment. In modern times, Prometheus is sometimes viewed as a cautionary figure, representing the dangers of overreaching or the unintended consequences of technological advancement.
See also, the parallel story of Lucifer, the Light Bringer, and various other cognates in the Near East. In many of them, the defiant one is actually not defiant over all, just defiant of the Sky God, while obeying the Earth Goddess, whose mercy was why enlightenment was given, and why, in Genesis, Yaweh/Elohim says "they" need to get the first people out of Eden, lest they eat of the Tree of Eternal Life, "and become like us," that being, him and Asherah. Ditching the Mother Goddess influence changes the focus of these stories from parents arguing over their kids, to one of mere betrayal for personal reasons by an underling. It would be interesting to know the cultural reasons why ancient people, mostly men, decided portraying it like this was better? Then Zoroastrianism gave us the Nemesis, which idea overlaid the formerly minor "villain." Anyway, thanks for sharing your perspective. It is helpful.
The opening sequence is a fantastic piece of visual storytelling. An alien race comes to a backwater planet, sends an emissary to the surface to sacrifice himself, breaking his body into its most basic parts, in order to seed the planet with life. The emissary was humanoid and we, ourselves, are very similar, thus leading to the question of whether or not these Engineers did, indeed, engineer life on our planet. Us. The entirety of this movie is just stunning. The cinematography, score, cast, acting, CGI, storytelling...all fantastic. This is one of my favorite of the Alien series. So glad you reacted to this one. Can't wait for you to see the next one, and I really can't wait for Ridley to do the final part of this prequel trilogy.
If we found another Earth out there would we try to create a new life form to live on it or would we just colonise it, The so called engineers are lifeforms just like us but more advanced, it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't colonise a perfect planet.
I do genuinely love the addition of The Engineers to the lore, they’re essentially gods who create life throughout the universe and also wipe it out if that life is deemed too dangerous to allow to exist. And the idea that Engineers created a mutagen or “Pathogen” as its called by Weyland-Yutani in *Aliens: Fireteam Elite* (which is a game I’d love to see them play) as a way to wipeout life that they created on a planet as essentially a clean slate, but just like with humans created bio weapons it got out of their control. There’s also a scene in the original script that showed that the last engineer has a full conversation with David, Shaw, and Weyland. Explaining that they wanted to wipe out humanity because they were deemed far too dangerous to allow to exist in the galaxy. They visited humanity when they were after their most violent and actually invited a human to live with them briefly , so that when he would come back to earth, he would explain that they needed to become less hostile and treat each other better. However, they wound up killing him. And it’s implied that that person was Jesus Christ. And that was what pushed them to try and go forward with wiping out humanity. Sadly there’s far too many continuity errors that show that they didn’t put much care into it being a true prequel. Such as the fact that the terrain around the derelict ship is completely flat but in Alien it’s a jagged rocky hellscape. Or that the space jockey (not the engineer inside it) doesn’t have the chest wound from a chestburster like in Alien. And finally this is NOT LV-426 it’s another planet altogether.
@@HABO2210 the species that created the xenomorph itself, and the derelict on LV-426. A species so advanced they created the perfect blend of organic machinery.
The prequel to the Alien franchise is here! This was a very interesting take we were honestly not expecting. What are your thoughts on the film? Let us know!
Are cars Alien!? (This will make more sense as times goes on). Ridley Scott before making this film said he hated where every film after Alien went and he wanted to "Rewrite it all". The film is a good film... but not a good "Alien" film. Ridley is lost as a director... even after this film he said he made a mistake and then rewrote everything he had planned for the next film... Covenant... he did the exact same thing after Covenant... he is just going by the fly and off the top of his head... purely to rewrite established lore, he is like a child throwing a temper tantrum and a god complex. And Alien: Romulus is the exact same... (it's clear he massively interfered) with literately dozens of plot holes. The last dedicated true Alien film to me was Alien 3... With AVP and AVP2 being acceptable.
The reason why the Engineers wanted to wipe out humanity: There is a big, complex mythology here, but to put it simple: they created us, but were extremely disappointed in what we had turned into and became a threat, especially when we gained the capability of space travel. The first sign of the 'depraved' state of humanity for them is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, whom according to this lore was actually one of their messengers.
Over the years, I have liked this movie more and more. It’s, by design, tangentially an Alien prequel. I think Ridley Scott was hired to make an Alien prequel but actually wanted to make a film about other ideas, but the final script couldn’t get away from the Alien universe enough to be its own thing, thus the expectations on it were very misplaced. It’s more a Weyland-Yutani prequel than a xenomorph one.
Yeah, it’s definitely not what we were expecting but once you embrace the fact that it will be different we found it quite enjoyable. Some character motivations could’ve been polished more, the visuals and sound design are amazing. It’s a solid flick!
It's the opposite for me. Every time I watch it I find it dumber and more cliche, full of forgettable characters who keep doing random nonsense. Very subpar writing, though not as bad as covenant.
The Engineers did show up in the Aliens vs Predator comics after Prometheus movie came out. In one comic an elite Predator nicknamed Ahab was hunting a Engineer. Ahab found the Engineer and proceed to fight it but found out the hard way how tough an Engineer truly is. The Engineer not only towered over the Predator but he also brutally overpowered Ahab, the Predator was literally getting beaten up by this tall white skinned human looking Engineer Also the Chemical A0-3959X.91 - 15/Black Goo virus showed up in the comics too. Which causes some very interesting mutations in the comics.
There was also one alien comic called "Destroying Angels"which was prior to Prometheus with the Space Jockeys as a race called "giants". The final one of their species is impregnated and spawns a gigantic xenomorph that attacks others of its species and can hold a full grown xeno in its hand.
@@artmaknev3738 He did, the Predator/Ahab shot the Engineer in chest with his Plasma caster/Shoulder cannon and the Engineer just tanked it. The Predator shot him right in the middle of the chest and it didn't do nothing to the Engineer.
Ever since the AVP abominations came out Ridley Scott, Dan O'Bannon (before he died) David Giler has ALWAYS said that the Predator is not and never has been part of the real ALIEN universe and canon. Another instance of Darkhorse comics elbowing their way into the ALIEN franchise.
Just Some clarity that i hope answers some of yall questions: The xenomorph like creature in the end is called a Deacon and and the giant facehugger is called a Trilobite and when a Trilobite infects a host like a regular facehugger then its gives birth to a deacon. And the deacon was the one who was on the wall. The black goo makes anyone who come in contact act extremely aggressive and violent like a xenomorph. But there are still plenty of questions yet answered like who created the black goo and what was its purpose and One of my most top questions is what the hell was the engineers running from in the recording, and how the hell did that one engineer in the first Alien movie appear on that planet with a chest hole in his armor? 🤨 that’s why I love this franchise. The curiosity is top-tier (And by the way the engineer ship in this movie is not the same one in alien that landed on LV 426 the planet, the Nostromo landed on)
This is one of my favorite Alien movies, thank you so much for reacting to this. I just love all the little easter eggs that they leave about weyland industries from the previous movies. Also the xenomorphs in this one are just as crazy and terrifying as the originals. can't wait for you guys to check out Alien Covenant. hope you guys have an amazing day and keep on rocking 🤘
There are theories in the Alien fandom community that the Engineer in Prometheus is not the same species as the dead 'Space Jockey' in the first Alien film. Even their spaceships are not the same though sharing similar design architecture but different in technology. Theres a comic that explains briefly that the Space Jockey is an ancient giant species of humanoids called the Mala'kak....their bodies have the actual Elephant like look where the Engineers created their suits based on them as a homage to their creator. The Mala'kak were so advanced in manipulation of bio matter that their entire technology is based on the combination of organic & mechanical elements into something bizzare that the material is like flesh bone & metallic all together.....basically what their ships were which also made them kind of 'ships being alive' and the pilot being fused into the chair into a symbiotic connection with the ship.
Hello guys, im so glad you did Prometheus! I believe this movie is inspired in the ancient Sumerian and Acadian mithology, where the gods created humans to serve and work for them. For this purpose they made the humans almost identical to them, and after a time we overpopulated and sinned so the gods decided to destroy us. You can see the references to sumerian culture in the buttons that David touched here and there, they are cuneiform characters, the symbols the Sumerians used to write.
Completely disagree Ridley Scot completely lost any common sense when he made this and Covenant. Prometheus COULD have been good but it failed from a lack of solid direction and absolutely stupid edits that removed vital information that shouldn't have been relegated to a Director's Cut edition and Covenant was just plain garbage and EASILY the absolute worst film in the series, with a plot that completely disregarded the mythology established in the original film to try and create some new nonsensical timeline. Prometheus and Covenant should be considered their own thing, as they have no business being part of the Alien franchise.
You can't just blindly follow like that. While I do find entertainment in the "bad" Alien movies, they're still just that...bad. Alien: Covenant is probably the worst. I actually like 3, Prometheus, and Ressurection better than Covenant. Alien: Romulus is a step in the right direction though!
@@HorribleGamingFun Prometheus when you also watch the deleted scenes is a fantastic film. I do agree that alien covenant is garbage. Killing off Shaw makes no sense. It eliminates the plot thread of finding who created the engineers. We also don’t see her go to the engineer home world as a result. And the elimination of Shaws plot threads negatively impact David’s plot as well. He becomes a villain out of nowhere after Shaw fixes him and they agree to learn more about the engineers and find there planet. I hate alien covenant so much because I loved Prometheus.
Despite being incredibly divisive among the Alien fanbase (for a reason I’m not entirely sure), I love this film. One of Scott’s most underrated projects of his career in my opinion. This is also one of my favorite performances of Fassbender’s career. His portrayal of David is so fascinating to watch.

Thanks soooo much for reviewing this one! I agree- more questions than answers here. I like other commenters’ suggestions to watch deleted scenes. I too wanted more of a connection to the lore here! All I’ll say about Covenant is- remember how the themes & look from Aliens to Alien3 got much darker?? Brace yourself. And do they give is more answers in the next one? You’ll have to watch to find out! Can’t wait for your reaction to Covenant.
Love this movie. Although it raised more questions than it answered, Covenant “draws the outline” of the Xenomorph’s origins while Romulus fills it in with pretty much HOW the Xenomorph is able to adapt to each host it encounters: human, ox/dog (Alien 3), Predator (AVP) and so on. Also, you’ll rethink the ending of Aliens after you see the beginning of Romulus.

@Capt620 I think it because the movie not really accurate to the lore to the original xenomorph or alien movies like completely changing how alien work
@@Capt620 One example that immediately comes to mind is the behavior of the scientists on board. That is simply laughable. Even in a sci-fi movie you could have made it more believable. Some parts of the movie just go by too quickly without going into important elements of the story. And yet I like the movie... because it sometimes hints at its great potential. But unfortunately it doesn't make enough use of it. It is downright wasted in some parts.
We feel the same way when something has so much potential and misses the mark by so little somehow that is worse than a disastrous film. This movie had a lot of elements we enjoyed quite a bit. The visuals and sound design were on another level. The body horror was impactful. But the philosophical questions they were trying to ask didn’t really evolve or develop at least not in a way were it was effective storytelling.
Oh my god you guys have been FEEDING ME lately!! Idc what anyone says - I love both Prometheus and Covenant and I am proud of it. The only big sin is that they break up the lore a little bit, make things more confusing. But other than that, these are some of my most favorite movies. Also just to really prove my point - besides Ripley (of course), David is my most favorite character in the entire franchise period. And Fassbender's performance is pristine, they literally could not have gotten a better actor and I love watching him do his little android-Loki games.
This fact is totally unrelated to the movie but it’s something I know off the top of my head, Prometheus is a titan from Greek mythology, the Titan of foresight. Who gave humanity the gift of fire 🔥 and allowed them to become the dominant species in the world, as punishment for his betrayal to the gods, he was bound to a mountain where a vulture would come to eat his liver only for it to grow back every day, endless torment but despite this he never regretted his decision Also your little dance is always a great treat 😊1:35

Holy crap, Micheal Fasbender’s acting! I never noticed until just now, after Charlie Holloway says “we made you cuz we could” to David, his facial expression changes EVER so slightly. It’s in his eyebrows.
The cast and crew are often overlooked in this movie: Michael Fassbender (take your pick), Charlize Theron (take your pick), Idris Elba (take your pick but really worth seeing him in Luther), Rafe Spall, Guy Pearce, Noomi Rapace, Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones), Benedict Wong...then add the director, producer, cinematographer, composer...this should have been bigger than it was. I think a couple of reasons why it wasn't centre on the gaps in the story (that the DC deals with) and the scientific "Hang on a minute??" moments.
Sean Harris ( mission impossible rogue nation, the green knight, the king, native son) Kate Dickie (the Witch, the green knight, peaky blinders, Game of Thrones)
26:18 is the moment where you can finally understand that _David is the close to the main character of the film._ He's the creation living amongst his creators, he understands more than anyone else does about the Engineers, and he knows just how uncaring they BOTH are to their creations. When it comes to the super corporate people like Mr. Weyland as well as strongly religious people like Shaw - they both act very coldly towards the Synthetics in dehumanizing ways. It's not a satisfying answer just like David's conversation about the disappointment of that answer and foreshadows how the more militaristic Engineer installation doesn't care about them at ALL. Really looking forward to you checking out both *_Alien Covenant_* & *_Alien Romulus_* as I think they both go in really interesting directions with the series.

The planet in alien is called LV-426 whereas the planet in this movie is called LV-223. They are both small moons that orbit the same gas giant called calpamos. Given the information presented in this movie we are safe to assume that the Engineers somehow created the xenomorphs and a ship loaded with eggs left LV-223, perhaps heading to Earth. During the initial flight though, the Engineer was attacked by a facehugger and crash landed on the next moon over which is LV-426. The Engineer would die from the chestburster (We know this happens because the crew in the first movie said that his bones were bent outwards like he exploded from inside) and the xenomorph that was born would likely of just died after a few months since it would have no food or way of following its purpose of reproduction. The main plothole in the story however, is the fact that the Engineer before dying activated a warning beacon which is what the nostromo in the first movie picked up on. That being the case and Prometheus being set earlier in the timeline, shouldn't this crew have noticed the beacon signal coming from the moon next door? Names: The facehugger in this movie is called a trilobite. The Xenomorph thing at the end is called a Deacon. I don't know what the worm thing is called.
A few years ago members from the AvP Galaxy forum, worked on and released a “work print” version of this movie with all the deleted scenes and unfinished CGI being fixed. It was around 160minutes but that movie made much more sense than the final version
Prometheus was composed by Marc Streitenfeld. He did most of the musical score while the two main themes were composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. What made this one rather interesting was that the music was actually reversed and the orchestra played the music backwards… to give it an “unsettling sound” that they were going for. The music as a whole give off lots of different feels and emotions. Some is elegant, hopeful, grand and hauntingly beautiful or even adventurous as you pointed out. The main themes being prime examples of those kinds of feelings. The other half of the score is eerie, suspenseful and downright chilling. It includes all of my favorite elements within this style of the genre: frenzied tremolo and pizzicato string textures, intense brass sections and some dissonant electronics. The choirs here while being subtle, they’re also pretty creepy at times. It was also nice to hear a little of Jerry Goldsmith’s OG Alien theme played in early in the movie too. It sounded like it was played on either synths or an electronic string instrument of some kind. Still sounded lovely though!
Has anyone ever noticed the ressemblances between Alien VS Predator and Prometheus scripts ? We start with our female protagonist carrying family issues and a cave filled with archeological interest. Then, we go on to a briefing with interconnected historical civilisations which never actually met, leading the big boss of the Weylan Yutani to mount an expedition because of it and explaining the plan to a crew that is just meeting apparently. The crew then reach some sort of not easily accessible temple and, upon arrival, one of the character question the need for weapons. Inside the temple, they discover an universal language and some technology from an advanced civilisation. Everybody starts dying including the big boss of the Company from the very hand of the advanced civilization. And both movies ends with a member of the advanced civilization giving birth to a new variant of the Xenomorph. It's interesting because Ridley Scott always dissed the AVP movies.
Bear in mind that AvP took a lot of it plot points from the original 1977 StarBeast script, and in the early development of ALIEN, some plot points were removed. If you look at the production paintings in the earliest stages of ALIEN you can see that AvP was building's its story around stuff that was ultimately excised from ALIEN due to budget. With that in mind it's not surprising that Scott would be revisiting those things that he was involved in developing when looking into doing his prequel.
Both are loosely based on Dan OBannon's original Alien script, which is in turn loosely based on HP Lovecraft's "At The Mountains of Madness". Which is also why Guillermo del Toro couldn't make his "At the Mountains of Madness" adaptation.
Seeing the Xenomorph mural in the engineer ship has led some fans to believe that the engineers worship or revere the Xenomorph's biology and ability to mutate and form things in their image. This is especially confirmed recently where we suddenly learned that face huggers don't implant an egg, but more rather infect you with a mutagen that causes an alien to grow inside you. The black goo is likely the engineer's extracted and refined form, which causes mutations in other animals that share traits with Xenomorphs
The Engineers did not want to experiment on their own kind. People on earth were made to be experimented on to create the deadliest creatures. As it was in AVP. In the "making of the alien movie" they started with a squid like facehugger and a Prometheus Xenocobra as the chestburster. But They went with Giger's artwork to make the final versions.
Not a perfect prequel BUT it's very deep and beautiful and scary and wonder and honesty I really would love to explore other planets and that is what ridley did for Me in this film Oh and in the beginning that engineer sacrifice himself to make us just to let you know
So glad you're watching this. There was a lot of flack thrown at Ridley Scott. But I think this is very unique story. The score is beautiful at the opening. The story of David totally ties back to the first Alien movie with Ash.
Some folks don't like Prometheus very much. Personally, I enjoy this film and Covenant. I appreciate the effort to dig into the lore, and the overall vibe of the film is oddly relaxing for me. There are aspects I would have liked more of, and a couple of things I would have done differently, but overall, I find it enjoyable.
This movie is very underrated. I am glad you have reacted to it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I love the themes that are explored in it. The Engineers are epic.
Great job guys. I love your reactions and knowledge. If you watch the evening news you start to understand why they believe they made a mistake with the creation of human kind.
Yall weren't at all bothered by the lack of continuity in the tech seeing as how this was supposed to take place before Alien? That's usually the primary complaint from people and I was surprised neither of you mentioned it. The set design didn't feel connected to what we've seen before. This felt like it took place well AFTER even Alien Resurrection when you look at the ship design and technology all around.
This film shares a lot of DNA with Blade Runner. At its core, Blade Runner is about 2 things. A man who has lost his humanity finds it because of a robot... who was searching for his creator to ask for more life. The primary mission of the prometheus, unbeknownst to her crew, was to ferry Weyland to our creators.. to beg for more life.
Let's be honest--the crew of the Prometheus were the worst explorers in sci-fi history. Everything they touch, they destroy; they almost cause the extinction of humanity; and they all get themselves killed.
That’s why this movie is so infuriating to me. Charlie is such an unlikable prick who doesn’t give off ANY scientist vibes…he’s like a bullying frat boy. Millburn and Fiefield…two bumbling imbeciles.
It's worth looking into all the deleted scenes for this. They make the movie make so much more sense. The decision to cut all of the conversation with the engineer is honestly baffling.

Even with those scenes included, the movie is still stupid.

Fun facts: Ridley Scott was going to use VFX for Shaw’s body during the surgery scene until Noomi Rapace told him that she could do things with her stomach so that’s actually her moving her stomach like that. They say it freaked out the crew when she did it but they used that instead of doing VFX.
She was made for Alien movies. :)
I could do things with her stomach too.
Noomi Rapace is phenomenal to me in this but Fassbender was also so good. loved his obsession with that old movie, 'Mr Potter' so good😂

“Old movie” lol Your curiosity never led you to find out what that “old movie” was?
There may be no truth in this but I feel like they might be leaving good stuff out of theatrical releases to make people buy the DVDs with all the deleted scenes. Probably not, but it often feels like that.
Now you understand what people mean by the ‘Prometheus school of running away from things’
That was kinda stupid the only thing i can maybe see is parts of the ship we’re falling down on the sides of them so all they could do was go forward its still stupid though.
That will never not be funny! XD

Idris Elba didn't have the biggest scenes but every scene he was in was crazy good. He knew what had to be done in less than 20 seconds when she was trying to explain it wasn't a warship. Amazing job between them
That’s because his scenes are literally cut it’s not that he just knew what he had to do he went through something similar already.
The curse of humanity: Some of us are born cautious, others like waddling into danger.

Glad they deleted it, sounds like nonsense.
I didn't find that to be the message, I thought it was explained in the movie that it was programmed for Weyland?
I think the entire idea that such an advanced medical machine wouldn't have the ability to operate on women is kinda silly.
Which is interesting. Though I still feel like there’s a species older than the engineers

Not my favourite: the scribing isn’t good made. But the soundtrack, the special effects and the theme are great 😊
Are cars Alien!?
The reason why the Engineers wanted to wipe out humanity:
There is a big, complex mythology here, but to put it simple: they created us, but were extremely disappointed in what we had turned into and became a threat, especially when we gained the capability of space travel.

The Engineer not only towered over the Predator but he also brutally overpowered Ahab, the Predator was literally getting beaten up by this tall white skinned human looking Engineer
Also the Chemical A0-3959X.91 - 15/Black Goo virus showed up in the comics too. Which causes some very interesting mutations in the comics.
There was also one alien comic called "Destroying Angels"which was prior to Prometheus with the Space Jockeys as a race called "giants". The final one of their species is impregnated and spawns a gigantic xenomorph that attacks others of its species and can hold a full grown xeno in its hand.
why didn't the predator shoot it with his little lazer thing?
@@artmaknev3738 He did, the Predator/Ahab shot the Engineer in chest with his Plasma caster/Shoulder cannon and the Engineer just tanked it.
The Predator shot him right in the middle of the chest and it didn't do nothing to the Engineer.
Ever since the AVP abominations came out Ridley Scott, Dan O'Bannon (before he died) David Giler has ALWAYS said that the Predator is not and never has been part of the real ALIEN universe and canon. Another instance of Darkhorse comics elbowing their way into the ALIEN franchise.
Just Some clarity that i hope answers some of yall questions:
The xenomorph like creature in the end is called a Deacon and and the giant facehugger is called a Trilobite and when a Trilobite infects a host like a regular facehugger then its gives birth to a deacon. The curiosity is top-tier
(And by the way the engineer ship in this movie is not the same one in alien that landed on LV 426 the planet, the Nostromo landed on)

There are not bad Alien movies for a true Alien fan, all of them are good in their own way. What ever Ridley Scott makes is always a masterpiece.
Completely disagree
Ridley Scot completely lost any common sense when he made this and Covenant.

Creatures in Prometheus:
Worm like creature: hammerpedes
Octopus like face hugger: trilobite
Xenomorph like creature: Deacon
Edit: thank you all for the correction, my spelling can be ass, and thank you for the love!❤️ keeps my depression away!
Also a super zombie

I've absolutely LOVED your responses to the Alien universe, the Lord of the Rings, etc. Like the lady(I'm sorry I can't recall your name; I've had the flu) bit saying how you love living vicariously through your cool husband(you're cool, too) and hearing your brand new take on things? Beautiful. Of all the first reactions I watch of films I've loved for 30 years, YOU two wonderful folk have made me smile SO much. You have insights I haven't considered, but I want to thank you. Thank you. Stay frosty x😊
Ah, Prometheus... . My favorite love-hate relationship... .
Why the hate? Just curious.
@@BramGaunt Written by Lindelof, nothing good was going to come out of this.
Around 20 minutes 50 in, there is an obvious tip of the hat to Hicks in Aliens shouting "Marines we are leaving!".
David is easily my favourite non-Ripley Alien character. Fassbender is incredible.
Yeah.
I wish they would finish Davids Story.
his acting carries this and covenant if you ask me
Oh my god you guys have been FEEDING ME lately!!
This fact is totally unrelated to the movie but it’s something I know off the top of my head,
Prometheus is a titan from Greek mythology, the Titan of foresight. Who gave humanity the gift of fire 🔥 and allowed them to become the dominant species in the world, as punishment for his betrayal to the gods, he was bound to a mountain where a vulture would come to eat his liver only for it to grow back every day, endless torment but despite this he never regretted his decision
Also your little dance is always a great treat 😊1:35
Now we just need the origin of the name Bob
And the eponymous Dr. Frankenstein was known as the modern Prometheus.
Great reactions, i throughly enjoyed this film & liked the story arc & themes it represents.
A great cast, superb set design, tense, dramatic & suspenseful.
Always enjoy your reactions the love & enjoyment you show watching movies is uplifting & your post movie discussions are always on point.
You have no idea how long I have been waiting for you guys to watch this movie.
Really good reaction.
a master piece ????? ok ......
Definitely NOT a masterpiece - more like a POS.
Yh sorry, you can absolutely enjoy this film but to call it a masterpiece is waaay off the mark
Ok I apologise for my mistake. I wasn't in my right mind because I was so excited for their reactions that I wrote "masterpiece" instead of "movie".
@@NoOneKnows15 hey dont get me wrong if you liked it to the point you find it a master piece good for you ! Not trying to be a dick its just that to me it was ok nothing more the writting was horrible but the visual the acting and the sound desing were on point
Thanks for reacting to this, I love your reactions. Space horror is my favourite genre and this is up there in my top 3. Extremely atmospheric movie, great philosophical themes, sound design is banging ( no pun intended), great cinematography
just watched alien romulus in theaters with my friend last night, what perfect timing lol. Looking forward to seeing your reactions! 🩵
Holy crap, Micheal Fasbender’s acting! I never noticed until just now, after Charlie Holloway says “we made you cuz we could” to David, his facial expression changes EVER so slightly. It’s in his eyebrows.
💖💖 Noomi Rapace was absolutely stunning in this movie! New Ripley!
The fascinating character!
I missed her in The Covenant. What a great actress!
Michael Fassbender is a massively underrated actor!
"This is why you dont boop the snoot." No, this is why you dont go to space.
This is like one of my favorite reaction /review channels of content the format is perfect, thanks for sharing!
Sean Harris ( mission impossible rogue nation, the green knight, the king, native son)
Kate Dickie (the Witch, the green knight, peaky blinders, Game of Thrones)
Alien chronology:
- Prometheus.
- Alien: Covenant.
- Alien.
- Alien: Isolation.
- Alien: Romulus.
- Aliens.
- Alien 3.
- Alien: Resurrection.
The AvP movies aren't canon to the Alien franchise, they're only canon to the Predator movies.
Technically Romulus then Isolation
@@ryans413 Nope. According to the official timeline, Isolation comes before Romulus (Isolation takes place in 2137 and Romulus takes place in 2142).
This is one of my all time fave sci-fi films. Just on looks alone, absolutely stunning in terms of music, photography and the pacing of it. Two other beautiful films I love are Arrival and also Melancholia. Both have a way of pulling you in and holding attention.
54:14 The Prometheus School of Running Away from Things...
Well, you know, if they ran to the left or the right, they risk getting struck by the burning chunks of Prometheus debris raining down like hail.
For me this Movie has eventho its from 2012 has the Best sound Desing of all Movies ive ever Watched .
Watched it in Theaters back then and people were also just stunned.
Already at the beginning when u guys even Mention the Sound design, i was in my head like thats the same way i felt , i was ready for a treat.
Greate reaction. I like how u guys understand each other and hype each other up so nice to see :).
The engineer in the beginning was drinking black goo, destroying his DNA and creating life or in this case, us
Wow! That was a wild way to start the film. There’s some pretty big implications!
No. This is NOT earth. Check the directors commentary.
@@Nick-GR They still created us on earth the same way , already because of the DNA plot , the other thing is , also in the extended + deleted scenes they also talking about being responsible (Teaching jesus etc.) and then the Engineers being disappointed in Humans because of the torture (Crossing) for him etc....
It wasnt black goo, it was the blood of the original alien they found
@royalecrafts6252 which I love the irony in humanity being a failed creation nearly being wiped out and if they were the deacon would never have been reborn.
David is the star of the prequels. The character, the actor, the scenes with David throughout the prequels sells it for me.
"13 hours or something like that and she's a mama...to a proud baby squid" LMFAOOOO
I looooove this movie it’s sooo underrated in the alien franchise ❤❤ glad yall reacted to this❤🎉
"can you stop touching things!!"😂😂😂
Almost at 200k my friends! Much love from Miami….always a great hang out with you two
Prometheus and Covenant: The best audiovisual experience in the franchise.
And the best soundtrack too.
Second this.
I'm usually not a fan of reaction watchalong type videos, but you guys are great. Keep em coming
The mural does not represent a xenomorph. its a "deacon" like creature. the enginers were able to create new life (through sacrifice) on other planets etc from its blood (opening scene). once the blood ran out, they tried to recreate it and didnt quite make it (black goo). btw: there were 3 films planned and we only got two...
I wanted the third 😫
Hey guys thank you so much for reacting to this movie, not everyone likes it so i appreciate it much more. Keep on watching and reacting, lovely greetings from Germany.
Not to mention this is a prequel to alien: covenant 2017
That’s coming up next! 😄
@@OfficialMediaKnights Awesome!!! Please watch the extended cut/directors cut and deleted scenes. Prometheus has so much potential, don't understand why Ridley Scott didn't follow this with a proper sequel. I'm more interested in the Engineers/Paradise/our origin story than the Xenomorph origin...
@@OfficialMediaKnights Just to let you know you’ll still be left with answers after Covenant there we’re going to be 3 films that explained the events up to Alien but Fox canceled the prequels so Covenant still ends without answering any questions. It’s a good watch though also the new movie Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens.
20:52 I have never seen anyone (reactor, or friend of mine) recognize the "David, we are LEAVING!" Callback to Aliens when Hicks yells "Drake, we are LEAVING!" when the marines first get their asses kicked (pal). It's such a great subtle callback to Aliens.
Names:
The facehugger in this movie is called a trilobite.
The Xenomorph thing at the end is called a Deacon.
I don't know what the worm thing is called.
The cobra was a hammerpede.
You guys have great media literacy, started watching with lotr and I've been hooked on you guys since
The boyfriend of the female lead, is in another movie called Upgrade that I think you guys would like. It's pretty awesome lol.
I’m loving this journey with you guys and the fun you’re having!
Well it’s hard for anything to be truly original, there is going to be inspiration from other medias.
They wanted to infect everyone on earth to make more bioweapons that being the Aliens .
Awesome! Glad both of you react this. This is a great movie.
Not a perfect prequel BUT it's very deep and beautiful and scary and wonder and honesty I really would love to explore other planets and that is what ridley did for Me in this film
Oh and in the beginning that engineer sacrifice himself to make us just to let you know
so freaking happy my favourite channel is reacting to this
You guys should watch LIFE (2017) i really like it and i think yall will too
Yes, that one was a great Alien clone (and better than Prometheus and Covenant combined).
So glad you're watching this. There was a lot of flack thrown at Ridley Scott. But I think this is very unique story. The score is beautiful at the opening. The story of David totally ties back to the first Alien movie with Ash.
2:50 The Xenomorphs are Scottish?!?
Yeah, my biggest problem with this movie is the writing, it's so hilariously bad it's insane.
happy you guys reacted to this. its my favorite alien-universe film
